Every time I try and play the kung fu panda ntsc dvd MPC HC crashes with:

Media Player Classic Homecinema - v1.1.845.0: mplayerc.exe - Application Error : The exception Integer division by zero.
(0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location 0x471f8a9e.

O.K, Options > Miscellaneous > "Remember DVD position" is causing the problem. Turn this option off and no more crashes.

1/ you have to know which files to play. To do that, you can use eac3to. This tool displays some infos from BD.
2/ Create a playlist according to the infos provided by eac3to.

No need to create playlist manually, "Open DVD" (Ctrl+D) will do it for you if you select a BRD folder.

Doesn't seem to work too well. For The Incredible Hulk Blu-ray, it only plays the 1st m2ts of the main movie, even though it's split into 2 parts.

Directshow does not support frameback AFAIK.

Nice work on including some icons but the icons don't look that good.
I'll stick with my current icons.

Anyway you can reshack the mpciconlib.dll to make your own icon pack.

littleD
29th October 2008, 18:19
Yep, I have some tools to hacking icon files. Maybe i will try to play with it.

Anyway the idea of keeping different icon for evey file is not good i think. Look at size iconlib. Vista icons probably have sth to do with it also.

My suggestion is to make icon for every group of formats like Windows media, Quick time, real media, playlists, streaming formats, audio, just to reduce filesize.

Removing the 256x256 Vista icons allows reducing the library to about a third of its original size.

I have send Aleksoid a suggestion that could help make the iconlib more flexible. If he implements that, then it will become easier to create a custom iconlib with more/fewer icons in it.

use upx on this dll reduces the size from 15 MB to 2,5 MB
I don't know if there is any drawbacks to use upx
anyway this dll is not mandatory : if someone doesn't care about having a different icon for each format (like me ^^) he just doesn't copy it.

Nice hint MatMaul. I've searched over the net and found that vista icon (256x256) that is inside mpciconlib can be png compressed format, which save all attributes of icon file. And it wont be rejected by Windows Xp, but just not displayed:) So, one ico file with all standard formats takes around 400kB, all formats with one 256x256 png icon just 180kB. And no backward compatibility problems :helpful:

29th October 2008, 22:06
Ok. Its not so easy.. :) I made custom build of mpciconlib.dll with png vista icons and size remained the same. (?). Everything appeared working, until changed explorer view to filmstrip or thumbnail, then explorer crashed on win xp. I dont have vista, so didnt tested. Maybe i did sth wrong or that is program fault i used.
So, I made another build with all standard icons and explorer doesnt crash, so im happy with it.

And im not sure if it is valuable for anyone:p. Anyway i made custom build with all old MPC icons, that were available in k-lite recently.:p

Usage PNG of compression will not give the big benefit, the file mpciconlib.dll becomes a bit less. But there will be other problem, this file will be compressed is worse by means of the usual archiver (7z, RAR, ZIP). mpciconlib.dll from assemblage 849 it is compressed by the archiver 7Z to 1 Mb, when the compression in icons was used PNG mpciconlib.dll about 2.1 Mb (2.3Mb - RAR, 4.1 MB - ZIP) were compressed.

When changing audio streams with the built in MPEG splitter (m2ts if you ask) from AC3 to DTS-HD (or anything for that matter?), the old audio decoder is still shown under Filters. So in my case, AC3 Audio Decoder is still shown instead of DTS Decoder. And while I'm at it, why is it named AC3 Audio Decoder? Shouldn't it be AC3 Decoder to match DTS Decoder?

Also, the MPEG Splitter properties shows:

Today is the start of HD DVB-T in France.
The video format is H264 at 1440*1080i50.

I try to play recorded TS files.
The internal TS splitter doesn't work (it doesn't see the video stream), but haali works.
With MPC video decoder and hardware acceleration (ATI HD4870, EVR or EVR custom), the field order seems wrong.

If the developpers want a sample record, I can upload one.

With all recent versions of MPC-HC, playing a BBC HD H.264 TS file with the internal MPC DXVA decoder on an 8600GT XP setup results in playback that constantly jumps backwards

I seem to have the same problem. MPC HC, have Haali Splitter icon during playback, using MPC Video Decoder with DVXA enabled. Problem is that EVO x.264 files play 3 frames forward, then jump back (DVXA). Result - choppy video. EVO VC1 files play fine with DXVA. MKV files with x.264 play fine too. Switching renderer to Haali or other that does not support DXVA also fixes issue at the cost of CPU load.

XP SP3, HD4850 Cat 8.10, MPC HC 1.1.604 or 849, Haali Splitter 1.8.122.18

Any ideas how to fix it ?

EDIT: m2ts x.264 files play fine with DXVA too

EDIT: I ran eac3to and converted EVO to MKV. MKV plays fine, using DXVA.
eac3to output had this line "Added fps value to MKV header." May be that fps field was somehow missing in EVO ?

EDIT2: I may misused H.264 and x.264. EVO is supposed to go with H.264 and mkv with x.264

any chance making the FS control bar less win95'ish? :(

anything but the mplayer2.exe buttons would do :D

also in other players when you do |< or >| it opens the previous or next file in the same folder, don't you think that'd be convenient?

having the filename shown in FS instead of "Playing" & "Shader:" would be awesome as well.

this player is begging for GUI improvements..

I want to disable some buttons in the GUI bitmap, but it still has balloons..

PS : ok it looks less win95 now, I've disabled all sounds controls as I use bitperfect audio.

hey guys, I have a big problem with some videos in a 3870 using latest catalyst 8.10 ( happened the same with the 8.6 )
some videos of MKV 720p (AVC stream), then to get a lot of artifacts at random times. and then around 10% of them, garbles the screen doing a infinite loop of the part of the video with the artifacts forever, the sound keeps plays fine so doesthe subs.

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/6017/snapshot20081101143727big8.th.jpg (http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/6017/snapshot20081101143727big8.jpg)
thats an example of the picture.

usually the looping parts are around 1-2 secs , and they repeat forever.
I have to close down MPC home cinema, and restart it to try to play again...
this happens very randomly, one some videos I never get these errors, in others theyre plagued...

MPC's video decoder says:
ENABLE FFMPEG, decoding threads 4 (Q6600)
H264 Deblocking mode ( tried many options, they all are the same, turning decblocking to NONE sometimes makes the loop longer )
error resilience: VERY AGGRESIVE
IDCT Algorythm ( tried AUTO and LIBMMPEG2MMX)
and DXVA ENABLED. ( H264 bit stream dcoder, no fgt, ati radeon hd 3870 (4098)

as for MPC options: im on VMR9 RENDERLESS, 3d surfaces

everything on default on the CATALYST control suit (AVIVO section).

Im not sure if I understand correctly, should I try the same video, with the newer build of Mediaplayer Classic Home Cinema?
or you have another file?

Im gonna download the latest directX
because Im still getting tearing and that weird loop, weird stuff is, it happens rarely, but in this movie, its particularly terrible (it froze-loops every 20 minutes , usually in the same parts )

anyone recommends a good utility to "reprocess" the video and fix the artifacts or coding errors in videos?
because I find it very rare to see that this video, causes such huge ammounts of artifacts and the annoying tearing-loop.

Yes it is! :) :thanks:

@Keiyakusha
No, it just don't use DXVA but use EVR CP, you see DXVA has some rules in order to work like limited reference frames, etc, in your video but you can always force DXVA utilization but I don't remember the registry setting, maybe Casimir does remember?

This is a nice sample to test DXVA, Haruhi (http://rapidshare.com/files/113536801/Suzumiya_Haruhi_no_Yuuutsu_-_C4_-_Special_Ending_-__Hitsuji__e569a2b7_.mkv.html) video.

Remember that forcing DXVA will result in unexpected behavior like green screen , macroblocks, etc, also even when DXVA is forced the renderer must support DXVA (forcing just bypasses the DXVA rules) and if you're using XP you must use VMR9 renderless, overlay mixer, etc, but with overlay mixer the internal subtitle renderer does not work. Use CTRL + J to see the status.

With r849 and a 1080i 25fps stream, the H.264 decoder would output NV12 to the renderer (EVR), play it back at 50fps, and would drop 50% of the frames, effectively making it 1080p 25fps stream because of my video card's deinterlacing.
With r853, the H.264 decoder outputs NV12 to the renderer, plays it back at 25fps (dropping 0% of the frames), but it still displayed as interlaced.

So... when I set EVR custom and enable h264/AVC (DXVA) checkbox, MPC-HC uses some other renderer?

it just doesn't use dxva

Then why CPU load is around 3% on 1080p and it says "DXVA mode: H264 bitstream decoder, no FGT"? Because it uses some other renderer "Video Renderer" instead.

maybe its just ATI specific that it doesn't work in EVR then

Fix : broken DXVA with nVidia boards.
With previous MPC-HC revisions, BBC HD played with Nvidia 8600GT XP and DXVA enabled, resulted in constant jumping backwards of forward motion.

With r855, motion is generally now smooth, however it jumps back and pixelates briefly, consistently, every 4 seconds.

If I disable DXVA in MPC-HC and use the internal decoder, motion is perfectly smooth but CPU usage is 5x greater.

It's not dependent on screen refresh (does it at 72/75Hz) or IVTC enabled/disabled or Haali/internal splitter or the renderer.

DXVA is getting better, but there are still some pervasive incompatibilities with Nvidia.

maybe Keiyasha as a DXVA2 enabled hardware, such as the ATI 4XXX series.
Im on a HD3870 (of the first revisions )
from Sapphire.

ill do a few more tests with EVR...

*edit*
using latest version of HomeCinema and various EVR options, and nope, it just doesnt work on my ATI

Sorry for bad English... I'm afraid we not completely understand each other.

Well, as I said for first time, I have nvidia card and "works EVR+DXVA+XP on ATI or not" - I don't know, this is my question.

If you sure that with nvidia card (+last drivers) + XP SP3 + .NET 3.5 + EVRcustom in settings + DXVA in transform filters ==> DXVA shouldnt be used, then what happens to me? Or it actually works, or MPC-HC uses another renderer without any notifying. If it is normal behavior - then sorry again, because its not described anywhere in settings.

To ALL about icons :
First: If someone does not want to use icons from the library, you can simply delete mpciconlib.dll;
Two: I made mpciconlib.dll and include all icons in project, each icon corresponds to a specific type on page Formats (each format may include several extensions).
Here is a list and order types :

("wmv"), _T("wmv wmp wm asf")
("wma"), _T("wma")
("avi"), _T("avi")
("wav"), _T("wav")
("mpg"), _T("mpg mpeg mpe m1v m2v mpv2 mp2v ts tp tpr pva pss m2ts m2t mts evo")
("mpa"), _T("mpa mp2 m1a m2a")
("dvdf"), _T("vob ifo")

(list and order are taken from source)

for sample, in anybody want change icon for .AVI - need replace avi.ico in project OR open mpciconlib.dll in Resource Hacker(or a similar program for editing resources) and replace icon in resource, INDEX 2(index begin from 0(zero))
