Can someone comment on this? I don't believe no one knows how it works...
Tell me please why subtitle text size is changing when I have SRT subtitles and selecting/deselecting option Play -> Subtitles -> Default style? As I understand this option is for overriding any styles with default one which is defined in settings. But SRT doesn't have any styles so this option shouldn't have any effect?
In other words, what exactly "Default style" option should do?

I can reproduce it here and I guess you're right: shouldn't happen. Strange...

I get this using MadVR renderer with MPC-HC internal H.264/VC-1 filters. I don't get this problem with ffdshow. I would use ffdshow to decode this content but performance with vc-1 encoded movie using Libavcodec and wmv9 is extremley poor and stuttery. As you can see i would like MadVR working with MPC-HC internal filter or better still someone help me sort out the poor vc-1 decoding performance of ffdshow.
NB: Just to add, the poor vc-1 performance i am refering to is when hardware acceleration is disabled (dxva_off) because MadVR automatically disables dxva forcing ffdshow to use software rendering. H.264 software rendering is just as fast as if i had dxva on so i see no reason why vc-1 software perfromance is so poor
Using Windows 7 with Catalyst 10.4 on HD5870 with lastest build of ffdshow (ffdshow_rev3444_20100518) and MPC-HC (mpc-homecinema.1.3.1896.0.x86). This problem was present when i had my Nvidia Geforce 260
Help me please
Any help will be appreciated
Cheers
I posted this in the MadVR thread as this is really bugging the hell out of me and i don't know where this problem belongs

Not sure if i understand you correctly but you can't use DXVA with madVR. madVR is not disabling DXVA in ffdshow, it doesn't supports it at all. It doesn't matter what decoder you using. And software mode in mpc-hc shouldn't be any faster than ffdshow.

I don't want to use dxva with madvr because i know it does not support it. What i want is to find a way to stop that green bar appearing when i use madvr with mpc-hc internal h.264/vc-1 filters or resolve the poor vc-1 playback perfromance with ffdshow.

Try force the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video decoder filter to load. I wonder what it's performance would be like (I think it decodes VC-1..)
edit: it doesn't.

Only happens with the 64-bit build.
yep, I can confirm!
The only thing I see is GPU Load, and that number seems to be the same one that is in ATI Overdrive. I don't see any Video Engine Load or Memory load etc. Whatever it is, it usually stays at 0%, sometimes jumping up anywhere between 10-20%.
Any wild guesses as to how much my video card is being used with DXVA? Would the power consumption of my HTPC be less with DXVA or with CoreAVC? I have a low powered CPU (5050E is 45W/65m). Again, CPU usage with CoreAVC is usually 50%, some times spiking to 60-80%.
Probably the ATI driver does not report that info. What is reported is probably the GPU load (2d/3d rendering unit).
In my system a 480p video uses 10% of the video engine, 720p uses 20% and 1080p uses 40%.
I can use DXVA to open as many videos as i want even if GPU memory is full as long Video Engine load does not go over 85% otherwise the system starts to choke. Example:
1 x 1080p video + 3 x 480p videos or 1 x 1080p + 2 x 720p videos or 4 x 720p videos play fine.
Use DXVA as it will consume less power than your cpu since it is a separate hardware processor inside your gpu that is doing the decoding and not the gpu it self.
I prefer MPC built in dxva over coreavc/divx dxva or software decoding (even though I have a good pc, see signature) but with coreavc you can use any renderer you like and with mpc/divx you have to use evr cp or vmr9 depending on the platform.
Idle GPU temp is 39c, during decoding 4x720p videos rose to 43c and during overclocked gaming tops at 55c.

I don't think that's a good idea. By the time ffmpeg gets a decoder the dust will have settled a bit.

Yes but those patches will have to be reviewed like any other patch which will take some time.
The directshow decoder is a separate decoder like the directshow ogg, vorbis and theora decoders.

Please help me understand how subtitle placement controls should work. I am using all the built-in filters via Options-> Internal Filters settings and using EVR Sync or EVR CP renderers.
External subtitles = those loaded via File-> Load Subtitle
Internal subtitles = those "enabled" via Gabest MPEG splitter: Filters->Gabest MPEG Splitter, selecting a listed subtitle.
The Options->Subtitles settings work as expected for External subs; I am able to change fonts, placement via Default Style or placement via "override placement".
None of these options work for Internal subtitles. I've tried multiple movies; multiple MPC-HC version back to v1453 to current v1899 and I get the same results.
I need to move the subs up into the actual video frame/picture for my constant height HT setup (using anamorphic lens).
I just need to know if this is a bug or I am doing something wrong or this is working as designed.
As an aside, the sub placement changes between EVR Sync and CP (with no changes made on my part apart from renderer selection). When Sync is used, the subs are lower with dual line subs being entirely below the picture frame. For CP, the first rests on the bottom video frame boundary.

Hi all
I have tried searching everywhere for this, but 'jaggies' or 'jagged edges' does not provide the answers that I was after in any Google search.
I have Core 2 Duo E4400 with 8500gt for my HTPC (im sure the rest of the specs wont impact too much on whats going on). I use MPC-HC in Win7, and as far as I knew, I had setup everything as best as possible.
EVR-CP, Haali Renderer, MadVR. All used with CoreAVC, DTV-DVD Windows Codec (cant remember exact name), FFDShow DXVA and not... countless setups. All I get all the time are jaggies, especially evident in EVR-CP. All I have found online is stating that EVR should get rid of the jaggies. I have posted 2 pictures below, from Bugs Life BD. One of the Bugs Life is captured from Windows Media Player, which plays video flawlessly (and I so hate that, because im not a fan of the player). The first one is with EVR-CP, CoreAVC (it looked no different with FFDshow or internal DXVA).
I would love anyones input as to how to solve this issue.
For Bugs Life, around the ant's antennae, the jaggies are evident. There were so many screencaps I couldve put in, but this was just one of them. When comparing to the WMP version, it is minimized to the point of not noticable at all. I do hope these appear properly on your screens.

I'm getting a weird problem with the internal Mpeg2 DXVA filter. It just displays a green image, whether I play a DVD, or a Blu-Ray that uses Mpeg2. Whereas if I use the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, it works fine and uses DXVA.
I'm using revision 1899, but it's been happening for a while.

With recent builds of mpc-hc, after I open mpc-hc and I have reclock change the refresh rate using vbs script, mpc-hc freezes, and is reported then by Windows 7 as it has stopped working.
I wonder have these recent changes around fixing the bug where mpc-hc would break with ctrl-alt-del, done something to cause this problem. The movie begins perfectly, just sometimes after refresh rate is changed, audio begins to break up in mpc-hc and eventually it crashes. I don't think audio should break up at all if possible, and of course, video should resume....
EDIT: I think this only is happening with madVR, can't reproduce with evr-cp. With evr-cp, frame rate jumps / speeds up / slows down and skips for about 10 seconds after the refresh rate change but doesn't crash.

It would be 24 hz and the reason you don't see it in CCC is probably that your monitor, or HDTV or projector doesn't support it.

The VP2 chip on the nvidia geforce 9600GT only supports partial acceleration of VC1 decoding. MPC-HC's DXVA implementation requires complete VC1 acceleration support on the video card.

Perhaps you could change the type of resizer used in mpc-hc, in the output options.
When is someone going to update internal matroska splitter to support linked files? I don't mean to offend you guys I'm just wondering if someone is going do it or not?
At the moment internal splitter doesn't open linked OP/ED files, haali's splitter opens them, but with it I have some bad problems, when OP/ED ends and episode/next episodes preview should start picture freezes or goes green. For that reason I perefer to use internal splitter, but it doesn't support linked files at the moment.

Perhaps you could change the type of resizer used in mpc-hc, in the output options.
Tried all the resizers to no avail. I assumed that resizer means to resize an image that requires it, eg upscaling. Movies in 1080p wouldnt really need any rescaling.
Still comparing the movies to WMP, and noticing more and more wrong with MPC. Would the term even be jaggies? Is there even a technical term? I hope you can see what I can. Im considering going back to XP to see if it might solve my problem.
Is there any guide to what codecs, shaders or renderers that WMP uses?

Hmm, have you some sort of de-interlacer in your chain, its mpc-hcs one that seems very blurry, looks like half resolution to me.
Have you latest nvidia drivers with all sharpening / enhancement options disabled in the cp. For h264 I use ffdshows non dxva decoder. For vc-1 I use mpc-hc's non dxva decoder. Try to get away from dxva in anycase to rule that out.
