@jq963152: EVR CP's load is higher than that of the regular EVR because of the post-processing it does. Especially when using extra things such as subtitles, the stats screen and heavier processing options.
The statistics toolbar of the player doesn't indicate a lot for most renderers. Pretty much only the case of EVR CP + internal splitters and decoders will update all the statistics in there.

In the stats screen for EVR CP, the "Last Duration" indicates the time stamp for the current frame.
Frame rates are badly represented by the time stamps in many videos. I've often seen the granularity being just in milliseconds. If we calculate that for 30 Hz and 30/1.001 Hz:
1/30*1000 = 33.333333333333333333333333333333 (*1000 is used because it's the factor from second to millisecond)
If the granularity is just in ms, the timestamps will be 33 ms for 2/3 of the time, and 34 ms for 1/3 of the time.
1/(30/1.001)*1000 = 33.366666666666666666666666666667
If the granularity is just in ms, the timestamps will be 33 ms for 2000/3003 of the time, and 34 ms for 1000/3003 of the time.
You need to calculate the average of 1001 frames to discriminate the two from each other for such a case. The timestamps also have to be ordered nicely in the video stream, else the average will be off.
Most videos will have better time stamp precision than this example, but the frame rate lock for EVR CP is indeed often off-target. I've been trying to improve the mechanism for my edited version of the renderer, but it's not easy to get it right.

MPC-HC (1.6.2.4795) VERY often loses focus and crashes when the subtitles are active and I jump back to replay a scene clicking with the mouse directly on the seekbar.

From my above post with the "4 day weekend" video, I got a popup talking about a minidump but I don't know where it is located. Obviously not in the install directory as there is only the .exe file.

We need more information, what kind of files were you playing, with which filters, etc, etc. Also did you get any minidump when MPC-HC crashed?

Many thanks for your answer. I'm speaking about MKV files.

1) MPC audio/video filters and MPC MKV splitter : no crash

2) MPC audio/video filters and LAV splitter : no crash

3) LAV video filter and LAV splitter : no crash

4) MPC video filter, FFDShow audio decoder, LAV splitter : crash

5) LAV video filter, FFDShow audio decoder, LAV splitter : crash (my default configuration until yesterday)

6) MPC video filter, FFDShow audio decoder, MPC MKV splitter : no crash (but all the audio tracks are played contemporarily)

6) LAV video filter, FFDShow audio PROCESSOR, LAV splitter : NO CRASH (my default configuration from now)

So the guilty seems to be the FFDShow audio decoder. I need FFDShow for his internal audio equalizer.

MPC-HC : 1.6.2.4795
FFDshow : 1.2.4422
LAV filters : 0.50.5

I've attached the minidump.

Yes, how I said above the culprit surely is the FFDShow audio decoder filter. Excuse me for the "false alarm". MPC works fine, and doesn't crash anymore with it's audio filters combined with FFDShow audio processor (which for me is necessary for the equalizer).

MS is killing Aero Glass in Win8, but this is not a problem since MPC-HC should be automatically skinned by the OS and looks like a native app. Hope this doesn't cause issues with EVR-CP, someone should download Win8 Release Preview next month and test the latest MPC-HC SVN builds on it.

I'm not sure what you're worry about? I mean they kill the "Glass" bit but not the Aero aka Desktop Composition. And MPC-HC looks the same no matter what regardless of that anyway.

The OSD doesn't show much info when changing subtitle tracks tracks for example for just get the OSD stating English instead "Titles and signs" which is what it's labelled in LAV filters. Any chance of getting the full name of the subtitle displayed on screen?

It no longer appeared for a EVR Custom Pres a few builds ago but now it's fine. You can always check with Ctrl+J.

Meanwhile, three years minus a day later... :p

Forced subtitles are not displayed on my laptop with any renderer (standard ones + evr + haali). MPC-HC builds from www.xvidvideo.ru (1120 and several previous), + last from sourceforge mplayerc_homecinema_x86_v1.2.908.0 (didn't want to go further back until I get a hint on what's going on - whether others can reproduce).

Either playing from a physical DVD, folder, or virtual drive - when I activate* a stream consisting of forced subtitles only** the information bar then starts to display "Subtitles: ... (language)" but they are not displayed on video.

MPC-HC internal filters are used, no shaders, VSFilter is not in the graph. My configuration (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1267291#post1267291) (not hinting at lack of reply or, God forbid, bumping).

I am 100% sure there is no hardware/software error in my OS configuration.

Will provide more info if necessary (just tell me what :)).

GL

* I think this is incorrect behavior of all MPC versions - forced subtitles are not activated by default. One has to go to menu Navigate > Subtitle Language > (the stream is ticked there, but has to be clicked on) Enable. This is different from all standalones and most software players. Forced should be forced IMO.

**Any stream of subtitles just converted to Forced with DVD Sub Edit. That is forced on any other player.

Probably related to this bug, please confirm:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2688444&group_id=170561&atid=854651

I think it's happening on all PCs (with Intel graphics?) and OS below Vista. I can get the DVD subtitles to display when I play the VOBs (but the colors are off and it's not the whole DVD). Any MPC-HC version, any renderer (up to EVR-Sync).

The tracker link isn't functional any more, and I don't remember if I did anything with it (most likely not).

I don't need this function often (DVD subtitles), but when I do... This ruins MPC-HC for me.

GL

* Edit: The rest of the conversation:

I think it is. How can I confirm? I don't have/know how to work with idx/sub files... :(

GL
That's too bad, i don't have or use those file either. Well you can at least update that bug report with your problem.

(About the bug: not displaying forced subtitles)

I discovered it was the driver (Intel Mobile Chipset; for XP; Revision: Production Version 14.38.3.5047) not displaying the subtitles. (I don't know what will I do next, I'm not reverting to older versions)

But I still think it is a bug (incorrect behavior) that forced subtitles are not enabled by default in MPC.

GL
Caused by the driver, that's just wierd, but everything related to subtitles with dvd's is wierd.

Crazy Frog.mtv - MTV files are not supported.
But:
*4 Day Weekend.mov was fixed at 4808, broken at 4832
*Atomic Monsters.mov is supported by 2 others :)
*Crazy Frog.mtv is supported by 2 others and is the same audio as "Because of you.amv" that MPC-HC supports, so no reason to pretend it's unsupported :)
*Evangelion Mentos.mpg is supported by 3 others :)

Why don't you include LAV with MPC-HC if it's the solution for all issues?

Why don't you include LAV with MPC-HC if it's the solution for all issues?
Switching from custom internal filters to LAV is a TODO for MPC-HC as far as I know.

It is not in the interest of any party to have multiple implementations of the same things (duplicated effort). The only thing that would possibly get derped is DXVA1 support, but thankfully...

...it is a feature that is less and less needed with time.
...it can be implemented on the base of the current LAV's DXVA2 non-copy-back DXVA implementation as far as I know.

Gabest's parsers for certain formats are useful'ish at times (mostly talking about the MPEG-TS parser, as some people like it), but generally other solutions have either gotten to the same level, or surpassed them.

Meanwhile, any help is most welcome to make the current splitters and transform filters work better until the switch from internal filters to bundled (possibly slightly customized to have better integration with MPC-HC's settings and so forth) LAV Filters.

*4 Day Weekend.mov was fixed at 4808, broken at 4832

If it's a regression in MPC-HC, try to find the exact revision where it borked and post an issue on the tracker. Regressions are usually easier to fix than stuff that was never supported to begin with.

*Atomic Monsters.mov is supported by 2 others :)

The audio format is the second version of this (http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=QDesign_Music_Codec). Needs to be added into the codecs used from the internal libavcodec copy as well as related FOURCCs and possible other logic has to be added to the internal filters. Mplayer/LAV just use libavcodec/-format in a much more straightforward way and thus adding formats to those is much more easy :)

*Crazy Frog.mtv is supported by 2 others and is the same audio as "Because of you.amv" that MPC-HC supports, so no reason to pretend it's unsupported :)

Is it just my imagination or are you being facetious? In any case, audio/video formats do not equal a container format. AMV (http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=AMV) is just a hacked up version of AVI, so adding support for that container is relatively easy for most AVI splitters. MTV (http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=MTV) on the other hand, as you can see by the link, is a custom container of its own. Not to mention the audio format in AMV and this format are different; AMV uses a version of ADPCM, while MTV uses MP3.

Also, your comment of "...and with NOT RENDERING" does not parse well in my English language parser -- please do tell in more detail. I would, though, dare to guess that it means that no video was shown. I would guess that this is because MPC-HC has absolutely no idea of the format, and just sees the MP3 frames and tries to play them. Which naturally doesn't go well because the thing is not a "MP3 bit stream" by any length of the imagination.

libavformat/-codec support MTV to a level, which is why Mplayer and VLC can more or less support it (and most probably LAV Filters as well).

*Evangelion Mentos.mpg is supported by 3 others :)

Probably needs to have some stuff modified in the MPEG-1/2 PS splitter, or a switch to something that uses libavformat/-codec for parsing/decoding. We could most probably backport the fix from MPC-BE (which would be a great way of not doing the same thing twice), but unfortunately the source for that is not available.

Are you sure that this is regression? MP4Splitter was fixed(r4805), and there is no crash now. This sample still works. I guess you mixed x86 and x64 versions in your test. x86 version works and x64 never works.

Meanwhile, three years minus a day later... :p

I wrote that because I found out it might not be the driver. Happens on another computer with Sandy Bridge I2600K integrated graphics (so yeah, still Intel gfx). DVD subtitles are displayed when a single VOB is played. It seems to me some component in the graph is bugged, or connection to Microsoft DVD navigator?

Also, there are frequent crashes only in this case, when DVD is played with subtitles set to be shown (but are not displayed). DMP file is created and MPC-HC offers me to take me to a page, but it never does.

I'd be happy to fill in a bug report, I just don't know what to do exactly.
