Hello:
I configure MPC-HC to play H.264 and VC-1 by hardware, but I would like to know if it's posible to do the same with MPEG2 files.
I want to do that because I have several interlaced mpg files and I would like to deinterlace it by hardware instead sotware, because I think I will get better results.
I use MPC-HC, ffdshow and ATI 3850.
Someone knows how to configure MPC-HC to decode the mpg2 files by hardware?
Thanks.
Daimroc.

No, there's only h.264 and VC-1 DXVA bitstream mode support in mpc video decoder.

Change the following ffdshow output settings. Then you should be able to use hardware deinterlacing.
Enable NV12 colorspace.
Enable "Set interlace flag in output media type". Method: Bob.

"Set interlaced flag in output media type" in MPC-HC mpeg2 internal decoder, enabling hardware post processing (deinteralcing, etc.)

Casimir, can you estimate when the next "stable" will be (on the mpc-hc website) ?
Probably not before end of october

@Casimir666
I've Just downloaded the v1.1.604.0 from your site to test it out, and the random freezing problem with MPEG2 (internal) and Xvid (standalone) is already present.
I'm using the 1.1.0.2 (wich works) wich is derived from your past v1.1.0.0
5 March 2008. Can you check the differences between the two versions (1.1.604.0 and 1.1.0.0) to try to find out the culprit?
Thank you very much

But why can't DVD playback be stable enough to be consistent throughout testing?
Most of us who participate in this thread are just users, who want to support the development activity, because it is a fine product, and because all the developers donate their time for free.
So the users cannot answer questions like "why doesn't this work". The developers are donating their time, so they have to also take care of their own personal lives.
All we can do is give you workarounds, or as some one else said, you can use the stable released versions which work more reliably.

WMP11/VMC
MpegSplitter
MPCVideoDecoder (H.264/VC-1 FFmpeg)
VobSub (Any version)
When trying to play .m2ts with .srt/.sub subtitles, WMP11 or VMC gives only black screen in 32-bit Vista. But same combo works with MPC-HC. Using Cyberlink H.264 decoder instead of MPCVideoDecoder, WMP11/VMC works fine with VobSub.
Also latest standalone MpegSplitter from build 771 doesn't work correctly, WMP gives error about missing codec when trying to play Blu-ray m2ts files.

Use version 2.33 of DirectVobSub. Newer versions sometimes don't like WMP.

You need an application that supports extracting and interpreting BD subtitles and mixing them with VMR/EVR.

Thx.
When playing M2TS files (VC-1 video) with any of the latest MPC-HC versions, using the internal splitter, blocking artifacts occur. Disabling the internal splitter and using Haali's instead works fine, but has the disadvantage of not showing PGS subtitles. It doesn't seem to depend on the decoder.
Is this bug known? Can anyone confirm this?

M2TS sample (http://www.mediafire.com/?y0wx3zoc9xc) (from Blade Runner: The Workprint Blu-ray)
Strange. I have had exactly the same problem since first builds that had MpegSplitter for VC-1 and H.264. I haven't ever been able to watch VC-1 with MPC-HC yet.
What makes this strange is that every component you mentioned is different from mine, also different OS.

My post was meant as more of an open question anybody could take a shot at answering, especially the developers, but I'll just rephrase it this time.
To the developers: Why doesn't DVD playback work during the beta period?
I'm not demanding anything and will of course wait patiently and use workarounds, but I'm just curious as to what got broken during the testing period that does not allow me to play a dvd without having the entire player lock up in a matter of minutes.

Any version newer than 8.6 agp hotfix has this problem
Thanks for the info. Amazing that I have to hear this om doom9 and not from ATI themselves. I even sent their driver team a bug report on this including my email address.
No doubt you can also help me get hold of the Catalyst 8.6 hotfix drivers? Can't find them anywhere and I only have 8.4 and 8.7 saved locally.
I already tried the 8.8's (lazily installing over the 8.7 I have to say) but that didn't help across the board (did for some files but many wouldn't play and would only show a single frame).

You'll have to google for them, i believe someone uploaded them on guru3d forum.
8.4 should work too after a driver-clean

Just got Radeon 4850 installed but i'm having a problem with DXVA.
If I open Blu-ray .m2ts with MPC-HC or WMP11 and player obviously is in windowed mode, I maximise player and video is correctly in 16:9 AR.
With Vista Media Center I'm having a problem. It's in full screen, I browse the library and start to play VC-1 or H.264 .m2ts. Movie starts but it is in 4:3 AR, if I switch Media Center to windowed mode (without stopping the playback) and then maximise back, suddenly movie is in correct 16:9 AR.
This happens with both .MKV and .M2TS files with H.264/VC-1 and only in DXVA mode. If I switch to ffmpeg in MPCVideoDecoder everything works fine.
Decoders Used:
----------------------
AC3Filter.ax
MatroskaSplitter.ax (1.1.771)
MpegSplitter.ax (1.1.771)
MPCVideoDec.ax (1.1.771)

With the last builds i'm not able to play continously an MPEG2 DVD with the internal Mpeg2 decoder. At some points (random) it freezes no matter what (it seems the same problem with the xvid standalone decoder). It seems doesn't show the problem with the ffdshow mpeg2 decoder.
Anyone has this issue?
I have this issue. Both dvd discs and vobs dont play for long before freezing the entire player. I hope this gets fixed. I hate having to use Videolan to watch dvd video.

Can you share which graphics card are most compatible with MPC-HC using DXVA

Which cards are giving you the least trouble?

* nVidia GeForce 8500, 8600, 9600 or better

I almost hate to say it, but I have the ATI HD2600XT and it works great for DXVA, playback on an LG 37" full HD LCD @ 24Hz and 60Hz. My sources are DVDs transcoded to x264 using AutoMKV and my home movies, which I shoot 1080P @ 30fps (Canon HF100), then transcode with AutoMKV to x264 MKVs.

Can someone provide a sample with working PGS subtitles? Because with my files the subtitles does not show up.
If I rebuild the files as a bluray disc image then use it with PowerDVD I can see the subtitles.
I suppose the settings for PGS subs are the same as the ones for SRT, ASS subs etc right?
Zwitterion
7th September 2008, 22:15
I can confirm that PGS subtitles don't work under Windows XP SP3, internal splitter, Haali's renderer. PGS subtitles worked fine with the first experimental build that was posted here a few pages back.
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/5918/mpcpl5.th.png (http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mpcpl5.png)
Could it be that those problems are somehow related to Windows XP? I haven't tried Vista yet.
edit: Now I can't get subtitles even with that first version (mplayerc_1.1.752 by Casimir). I can't get SRT subtitles either. I guess something is wrong with my setup. I try to fix it... Does MPC-HC write its settings anywhere else than in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Media Player Classic"?
Casimir666
7th September 2008, 22:33
PGS will works only with EVR Custom or VRM9 renderless (Haali is not supported). It also seems there is a lot of problems with files remuxed by tsMuxer.
Zwitterion
7th September 2008, 23:14
Thank you, those renderes display subtitles, also with alexins' builds.
Another minor problem: The checkbox "Position subtitles relative to the video frame" doesn't work with PGS subtitles. I have a 4:3 monitor, and the subtitles get stretched in fullscreen.
edit: Now PGS subs work with Haali's renderer again. I'm confused.

Just tried build 771, and I see that it is now attempting to de-interlace my Canon HF100's video clips. The only problem is, the field order seems to be wrong, because it is very jerky. I tried and older build (602 I think), and it is clearly not de-interlacing since the video is very combed. If I disable the DXVA decoder, it instead uses PowerDVD 8 decoder which works perfectly. I know from working on my videos that they are Top Field First. Does MPC-HC only do Bottom Field First, or is the de-interlacing support still in early stages? Thanks!

I really like, being able to choose which Screen to use when playing full screen, but sometimesI play video fullscreen on computer screen sometimes not, and it is really anoying to modify preferences each times.
Would it be possible to add command key, in preferences to be able to configure two keys (or more if people have more than two screen), to play full screen on screen 1 or 2 .... ?
Like F11 play full screen on screen1, and F12 play full screen on screen2.
Or something like two left click, play full screen on screen1 and two right click play it on screen2 ? (and two middle click play it on screen3 .... :D)
Thanks for your great work, keep going :)

There's a command line argument to make MPC open on a specific monitor (and/or go fullscreen or turn on Direct3D surfaces) so why don't you just create two shortcuts, one normal one and a second to open MPCHC on a specific monitor in fullscreen?
(Run "mplayerc /?" to see it's command line options...)

I've found that the screens aren't neccessarily numbered from left to right, and enabling/disabling screens after boot can affect the numbering as well. Just try a number between 1 and the number of screens you have, and maybe leave the "/fullscreen" off at first.

@ Casimir,
I have just taken a look at your "main movie detection" code and if I interpret it correctly you are chosing the playlist with longest duration, right?
Just another question on the "problem" with your decoder expecting a whole H.264 or VC-1 frame with one DirectShow sample. Think you already have the code to collect and parse the ES data from within the decoder. Think you had some problems with the reference time. Can you explain that? Can you think of a solution?
Seems quite common that splitters do not send whole frames with one sample. Some send the ES data of a PES packet and some partition the ES data within one PES packet. Sonic, Elecard and MS work that way too.
