... My personal favourite would be to fix interlaced AVCHD playback (Canon camcorder) with DXVA2 on, but it might be too difficult as a starter...
I have the Canon HF100 and what I've found is that FFDshow (latest) will play these files, but it is jumpy and does not work at all in MPC-HC (blank screen, audio only using MPC-HC internal decoders). I use jRiver MC13 and CoreAVC 1.8.5 for perfect "raw" M2TS AVCHD playback.
Could be related to my system, it's an AMD 5000+ BE o/c'd to 3.0Ghz and ATI HD2600 XT (CCC8.12).
My source is shot all at 1080P 30fps. I notice that when I trans-code to MKV (with no resize), MPC-HC then works and DXVA works with VMR9 as the renderer.
I also notice that even though my video is at 30fps progressive, MediaInfo (and Vdub) show the video as "interlaced". There must be a flag in the M2TS files that is not being set right by the Canon HF100. I don't know.

I also use HF100, but the European version, so I shoot 1080p25 which is (I think) actually 1080i50, which is interlaced in a special way where both fields repeated twice for the same time stamp, so a progressive picture can be completely re-constructed. Canon say that "all hardware and software" shall play these files as progressive, but it seems like not the case ... mpc-hc starts playing these files just fine, but then badly stutters every few seconds.

I can confirm those FLAC issues, some tracks play perfectly fine, however others can freeze the player before starting playback an others directly crash the player.

My personal favourite would be to fix interlaced AVCHD playback (Canon camcorder) with DXVA2 on, but it might be too difficult as a starter.
Interlaced H264 is now supported by mpc. Do you have file that didn't works (if so please upload sample)?
Also I have noticed a need to re-design the OSD (my second favourite), make it more informative and more flexible and it might be "easier" to do for me, but probably it is more long term work.
The problem is : how to have an OSD working with all renderers? My idea is to have a transparent window above renderer, and display OSD with DirectX.

I confirm : some Flac freeze the player (working on it)

More info on Canon AVCHD:
- when DXVA is on MPC video decoder plays m2ts with stutter and blocks all over every few seconds
- when DXVA is off MPC video decoder plays m2ts without stutter, but slow (30-35fps instead of 50) and the jitter is very high. - ffdshow plays them much better, but not perfectly good
In both cases my CPU load goes up to 60% on both cores (I have E6600).

Do you mean a window in a Windows sense? Like a new hWnd? How would you synch it with the main video window in terms of size/positions? I thought we need to manage a surface for every renderer ?

Maybe this can help
Update for Windows 7 Beta for x64-based Systems (KB961367)
Install this update to resolve live and recorded TV issues in Windows Media Center, recorded TV playback issues in Windows Media Player, and MP3 file corruption issues in Windows. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0c56bf3c-9370-4fda-b4c8-5dc63d55626d&DisplayLang=en)
Already installed but its just a patch for a WPM problem.
Hope that someone with the same OS version make some tests.

That patch is to avoid mp3 audio data modification by adding the files to WiMP, WMC or editing the ID3 tags with Windows Explorer. Without the patch some audio data (some seconds of audio) may be cropped from the beginning of the track when files are imported or edited by such software.

Quick question - can MPC-HC select and use an external audio file (to play instead of the one inside an MKV file), in the same way that it can use an external subtitle file ?
Or do I need to use MKVmerge to put the audio file inside the MKV file ?
Thanks in advance !

File > Open File...
You select the video file for the Open: field and then you select the external audio file for the Dub: field...

Hi guys,
I have a small problem, im trying to play 1080 x264 MKV file.
By following the rules of playing it in DXVA mode (im using XP x64), my video is pretty much shaky (slow and out of sync).
I have Core i7 920, 6GB of RAM and Radeon 4870 1GB and im using the 64 bit version of this program.
how can i fix this? by changing the setting to "System Default" i have no problems what so ever.
Thanks.

I know but the patch does not solve my problem.
I used Seven x32 version without that patch and everything worked fine.
In the meantime i found a solution for 5.1: Right click on video -> Filters -> AC3 Audio Decoder -> Decode to speakers -> 3 Front 2 Rear instead Stereo.
In this way 5.1 works but i use AC3 Filter Config too and the bass redirection does not work. :(
I dont know why all of this problems even because with others player everything works fine and the same release of MPCHC works perfectly on x32 version of the same OS. :(

First of all, grats :)
This is not a bug. As according to http://www.nvidia.com/docs/CP/11036/PureVideo_Product_Comparison.pdf the 8400M G uses VP1 and does not have bitstream h264 decoding.
According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PureVideo the 8800GT does have VP2 which is the same in all cards that have VP2. Must be a driver problem for this guy, and or old version of MPC-HC, or non-compliant DXVA encode. Or he may have not checked whether he ticked h264 (DXVA) internal codec in MPC-HC.

I can confirm:
- Incorrect playing mkv with two video-threads --> http://sourceforge.net/tracker2/?func=detail&aid=2025801&group_id=170561&atid=854651
I can provide a sample if needed, with SVQ3 and H264 video tracks. Haali is fine.
Also I have added two well known bugs just to have them in the list. Both are confirmed in this or in ffdshow's thread:
Stuttering when disabling subtitle buffering --> http://sourceforge.net/tracker2/?func=detail&aid=2498148&group_id=170561&atid=854651
TrueHD tracks decoded with ffdshow are silenced when seeking --> http://sourceforge.net/tracker2/?func=detail&aid=2498134&group_id=170561&atid=854651
You would make things easier if you put the bug's description next to those links in your post. Thanks for your work :)
Added one more:
Internal MKV splitter ignores default track flags --> http://sourceforge.net/tracker2/?func=detail&aid=2498164&group_id=170561&atid=854651

I can confirm this using my own muxed mkv with two video streams and two audio streams.
Using internal matroska splitter, MPC-HC (r956) seems to load all the streams and play them back simultaneously. When I right click to see filters, there are 2xEVR(cust), 2xDefault DirectSound Devices, 2xffdshow video decoders, 2xffdshow audio decoders.
MPC-HC internal matroska splitter doesn't seem to honor "Default Track flag" set to "yes" in mkvmerge either. I also don't see any method of selecting a stream in MPC-HC, unless I'm missing something.
A quick fix would be to get the internal spitter to honor the "Default track flag" in the .mkv file. Btw mkvmerge gui (using v2.4.1) automatically sets the first stream of it's type (i.e. V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC) as the "Default Track Flag" = yes automatically.
You can reproduce with your own muxed .mkv with multiple video / audio streams.
Edit: mkvmerge gui doesn't automatically set "default track flag" to yes unless the two sources were from a matroska file that already had that set.

i have updated my post with descriptions.
When reporting or confirming bugs please provide the following data:
-Windows and servicepack versions
-MPC-HC build version
-If appropriate FFdshow build number
-Videocard and driver version
-Renderer used and options selected in the output settings
-A sample so we can test it on our systems
And ofcourse as clear as possible instructions on how to reproduce

@all Dev's
From the bug reports and feature request the simple conclusion is that almost all of them are in some way related to the built in splitters.
I think we can close over half of them if we can bring the built in splitter up to and beyond that of haali's

Yes this is a good idea (my personal worst bug is not on the tracker yet either)
First i want to clean the SF page and all new bug reports/feature request need to be added to the tracker.
Then after that we can start searching the thread for missed ones.

I suggest using the newest SVN version you can download.
When a bug seems to be a regression then it would be good to include the last version that worked.

It will be nice if someone can compile latest SVN (32-bit & 64-bit) so we can all start / have the same / latest version to test those bugs ! :helpful:

One more bug in database: internal FLV1 decoder couldn't decode sample but ffdshow-tryout can (FLV splitter always internal).
Windows XP Pro SP3
MPC HC rev. 1.2.958.0
Renderer: Any
ffdshow-tryout rev. 2202
Sample: http://stashbox.org/357023/Full_metal_alchemist_Bratja.flv
P.S. Bug probably is due non even video height.

Both mediatypes are already defined. So if there is really a bug like you claim, it is located elsewhere in the code (where the definitions are used). Your 'fix' is incorrect.
Building libavcodec with MSVC will result in crappy performance.

This build crashes instantly on start on my computer. (Athlon XP 3000+, Radeon x1950xt and Windows XP SP3)

Uh?
What I'm saying is that one of the uuid's is wrong. That's all.
And I can confirm you that changing it like I did actually fixed things.
(Try finding an mp4 with avc1 codec, and playing it in mpc-hc with the internal splitter+ffdshow)
And yes I know about the crappy performances, I just dont use the internal decoder because it's fairly weak in my opinion. Plus I'm on an x64 environment and mingw misbehaves a lot.

Look at that real good and you will hopefully understand what I mean. you are suggesting to change this correct piece of code. The bug is located elsewhere.

n/m misread
But in any case, there is a bug.
The fix I did obviously only gave avc1 the uuid of AVC1, which is wrong but did work since they're the actual same content in the end.

Well, I checked all uses of the two uuids and I saw no bugs. Nobody (except you) has reported any related playback issues. So you probably have tested with the internal decoder disabled.

The issue was much more insidious.
I was actually renaming my builds to mplayer.rev.exe for testing purposes.
However ffdshow comes with a default list of allowed applications.
What ensued is that ffdshow refused the pin connection, and decoding would not process. Mystery solved.

Another bug/limitation of the MKV splitter: it does not detect/play MPEG-2 streams. In the sample below it only detects 2 audio streams.

Could anyone be kind enough to share their mingw-gcc'ed libavcodec for mplayerc usage?

Is there a clash between MPC HC and Helux YUV codec? XviD4PSP 5.x has it in its installer but it seems it messed up MPC's VMR9 mixer mode and EVR (i'm on XP SP3) with an awful green tint.. when I show VMR9 without mixer mode the video playback is normal. What gives?
Edit - It seems it's an issue with Intel GMA X3100 since I had to disable DXVA in Cyberlink's PDVD8 decoder earlier to get rid of the tint. Does VMR9 mixer/EVR invoke some sort of DX hardware acceleration? I'm already using 3D surfaces and it works fine in 'plain' VMR9. I'm using Intel's latest drivers. Any help/explanation would be much appreciated!

Can we use this solution to the splitter problems?
-Use libavformat as the splitter, apply patches for windows and DXVA.
Then all bugs in the splitter can be fixed upstream with ffmpeg (which has a lot more splitter coders than we do)

You can't just turn libavformat into a DirectShow splitter. You grossly underestimate how much work that would take. And no guarantee that it will be any better. Certainly not if you want to solve the issue of multiple video streams. You need a build-in video stream switcher for that (like Haali splitter has) and that is not something that libavformat has.
Fixing the bugs in the existing splitters would be much less work and give better results.

is there any chance that a custom graph builder might be included in mpc-hc?
i really wish i could have more control over the graphs in mpc.. right now playing blu-rays and hd dvds off the discs in mpc is a royal pain in the ass. being able to build a graph and then play that would make it all immensely easier.
