Firstly, MPC-HC 32-bit or 64-bit?
Secondly, is MadFLAC available as 64-bit filter?
Also, could this be the fault of the RDP DShow Redirection Filter?

Well i did go back to 32 bit (same build 1788, only 32-bit version). And that one works flawlessly. There is no start-up-problem, and no need for "Vista SP1 compatilbillity" as i reported. madFlac works as intended.
Too bad 64 bit isnt equal to 32 bit yet.
Internal Flac "multichannel" it's working on x64 version too (7.1)!
Did you set your speakers configuration in MPC-HC's audio ?
P.S. madFlac it's 32-bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: Flac 7.1 test file http://sharebee.com/26a14e1d

In my setup it seemed to put the ini file into the roaming/appdata/programdata folder. Forgot which..
Strange, for me the "Store settings to .ini file" automatically unchecks the next time I open the player.
(check option->close player->open player->option found unchecked)
default.mpcpl does come up at the appdata/roaming folder though.
EDIT:
Hmm..
Just discovered that the option unchecks itself when I reopened the options (didn't close the player).
And when the player is run with admin privilege, the option stays checked and the ini file appears in the same folder as mpc-hc.exe.
And with another quick test found that the ini file is not updated when the player is run with standard user privileges.
Using build 1802.
Perhaps the ini is not redirected to the appdata/roaming folder when UAC is on?
(But default.mpcpl is?)

Since ATI has changed the decoding of H264 and DXVA in some ways, the MPC-decoder should be updated to recognize when to use DXVA and when not. Some files that played fine with older drivers now have artefacts if DXVA is enabled (mostly 480P files with 3.1 profile and more than 4 B-Frames), and many files that never had DXVA enabled within MPC Decoder are now playing fine if the DXVA check is disabled (1080P Files with up to 16 B-Frames plays now fine with ATI and DXVA enabled).
Is there a way to manually update the blacklist information for those files that won't play correct if DXVA is enabled? (checking Profile, B-Frame...). It would be nice to have an additional option within the decoder settings to update this data. Or some sort of .ini-file where I just can edit the data and MPCDecoder would use it...?

Are you referring to this one http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1392185#post1392185 ? Cuse I can still reproduce it ! :
Open some video file,
then use File -> "Load Subtitle..." to load some xxx.srt or xxx.sub file,
then use File -> "Save Subtitle" to save the subs as usually (= save in the same folder as the video file and with the same name as video...)
Close MPC-HC,
then open the same video again,
-> and surprise, surprise... the subtitles are NOT auto loading although they are in the same folder and have the same name as the video file (except extension of course :) )!

We cannot reproduce the "auo-load subtitles fails regression", please provide more information and samples.
If for example:
- I play the file "movie.mkv" from the folder "movie" who contains also the subtitle "movie.en.srt" it plays just fine.
- I exit mpc-hc.
- in the folder "movie" I add another subtitle "movie.fr.srt", I start again mpc-hc, it sees only the original subtitle "movie.en.srt" but not "movie.fr.srt".
the only way to see both subtitles is to start to play another mkv file and then again "movie.mkv"

I've tried doing this on my rig ( win7 x86 ) and on my girl's rig via vnc ( xp sp3 x86 ) on both using .1809 MPC-HC and i can't reproduce this problem. Thou indeed i had problems with auto loading subs in the past ( somewhere around .1775 - .1782 ) iirc.

Then could be a x64 OS related problem
Anyone with a x64 OS (windows 7) can test this ?
P.S. I don't know if it makes a difference but I have MPC-HC x86 set as default for ALL formats also I'm not using an installer for MPC-HC and I'm using an .ini file for settings
Romanesque's problem seems to be related to mine since in my case, as I've said, if I play another video before re-playing the same video the auto-load works

The only DXVA decoder that works fine with this file is the Cyberlink H264/AVC decoder(PDVD9).

Does mpc-hc support DTS-HD MA 5.1?
You'll get default DTS sound. There currently is no free DTS-HD MA decoder - but luckily it is designed to be backwards compatible, so the existing DTS decoder can work on it, and decode the lossy core DTS track, so you're not stuck without sound completly.

More information? Uhm, MPC doesn't auto-load external srt-subtitles by the same name, whereas older versions did that just fine. What more information do you need?
Vista SP1, latest DirectX update, choice of splitter and decoders makes no difference.

Which video renderer?
How is the file opened? Double-click in Explorer? Drag&Drop? File -> Open? From a playlist file?
Rev 1778 is the most likely cause. That deals with the playlist. However, here the .mpcpl file correctly contains the reference to the srt file.

I can reproduce this. MPC apparently ignores the sub file if the file that is being opened is the same as the one that is in its playlist (from the previous session when the sub file was not yet present). It should overwrite the contents of the playlist when opening a file (without /add parameter).

"auto-load subtitles fails regression" DEMYSTIFIED
*
Classic example of a bug-report failing because of the reporter is emphasizing details that generate false leads: x64 OS, x86 MPC-HC, ini settings, and a superficial description of what you need to do to replicate it coupled with a bad attitude towards developers.
*
First you need to delete your current default.mpcpl to prevent redundancy.
You need two files: test.avi & some.srt Subtitle file must NOT match video name.
Open MPC-HC. QuickOpen "test.avi". Load subtitle "some.srt". Save subtitle "test.srt".
BUG: default.mpcpl is not updated at the same moment.
Even if this behavior is a little psychedelic, after saving the subtitle, they do:
- While playing the file (i.e. without closing the player), they reopen the same file. No matter how many times, default.mpcpl will be the initial one without the subtitle, until a new file is opened.
- They close the player directly by [X] or ALT+F4. They reopen the player with the same file. No matter how many times, default.mpcpl will be the initial one without the subtitle, until a new file is opened.
The simple solution for the troubled user is to use File - Close (Ctrl+C) after saving the new subtitle, all handles will be cleared and default.mpcpl will be updated correctly.
The hack solution for the troubled and lazy user is to read-only a default blank default.mpcpl file.
The proper solution by the developer would be to update default.mpcpl after using the Save subtitle command.
EDIT:
Glad to see clsid reproduced this.
A much needed subtitle related feature would be to add "ext" at the Subtitle Load order, that would represent whatever external subtitle file with the same name as the video. There is currently no way to override the subtiles bundled in mkv with an external one at startup, not even by using /sub command line.
EDIT2:
Just a quick test, "x.mkv" with bundled subtitles, "x.srt" external subtitle. Load order: added "x" first. Result: x is loaded! So an "ext" alias that will point internally to the file name would work.

More "DEMYSTIFIED" to the auto-loading subtitles bug...
I've found a simpler way to reproduce the "bug" :
1 - Open in any way a video which doesn't have the subtitle file in the same folder
2 - Exit MPC-HC (without using File-> close)
3 - Put the subtitle file in the same folder as the video
4 - Open the video again
-> Subtitle it's not auto-loading
I hope this is much simpler to reproduce
Edit: before beginning this test make sure your last file open with MPC wasn't the one you're testing when you already had the sub file in the same folder = make sure the default.mpcpl file doesn't contain any reference to the srt file already

More "DEMYSTIFIED" to the auto-loading subtitles bug...
As I pointed out, if you use File - Close (Ctrl+C) after you've saved the new subtitle, you have no more issues. Why can't you be satisfied with this solution, Mercury_22? Or your own solution to open a new file? I would not risk loosing the good changes in the playlist just because you and your 3 friends can't do this simple thing while you adjust your subtitles names to your videos. Should we move on to more pressing things?

To dev's:
I looked at mplayerc / MainFrm.cpp
Fast way to fix it without messing with the current behavior would be to only work with OnFileSavesubtitle() and add a CloseMedia(); if that's the equivalent of File - Close.

Are there a list of reasons why subtitles may not be working when playing back a DVD? I'm using EVR, DXVA, and Windows 7. I went through the right click menus to double check they were enabled.
Do I need DirectVobSub installed? Do I need to add preferred filter or disable something with the Windows 7 filter tweaker utility? :thanks:

DVD subtitles are not working when using the Microsoft DXVA MPEG-2 decoder. Why? Because MPC-HC fails to connect the output pin from the Microsoft DVD-TV Decoder to the EVR subpics input pin (it actually needs to also configure EVR to have that input pin). A quick usage of DirectShowSpy w/ WMP12 shows how the graph should look like.

By the way about rev 1788 (http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc?view=rev&revision=1778). It is not possible to roll back playlist part and keep changes to internal filters?

I have opened a new branch for the developement of a cleaner mpc-hc2.0
http://mpc-hc.bzr.sourceforge.net/bzr/mpc-hc
you can download the bazaar client here:
http://launchpad.net/bzr/2.2/2.2b2/+download/bzr-2.2b2-setup.exe
and get your personal link for commiting code here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/develop
We will keep the svn source open as a stable branch, please commit any new code only to bazaar. (but fixes to existing bugs go into svn too)

Why not git? :OGit is very complicated and has some issues that the devs want to avoid.
Bazaar is basically git made easy.
you can read this too

@Superb
Afaik the MS decoder is useless because the DVD menus won't work either. DXVA for DVD is pointless anyway since a sofware DVD decoder uses little CPU time.
