"A=-1.0" is the highest value possible, i.e., the most sharp possible, AFAIK.
Damn, it gives the most natural sharpening effect for me. Too bad the limit is -1.0 .

NVidia official WHQL drivers 178.13 were just released today. It now appears to fully support 1080p files with more than 4 reference frames.
I tested some samples and it's working. Max DPB limit gone. 11+ limit still exist.

clsid suggested to crosspost it here.
I have an issue with frame decoding accuracy.
Originally, I had a problem with VirtualDub frame decoding accuracy. Problem is described here (http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=16216), and has been fully resolved by switching from ffdshow to official Xvid decoder.
Seems that MPC is still affected with this issue even with official decoder -- on my real-life video, when it's asked to show frame x, it shows frame x+1.

9800(G92), 9600(G94), 9500(G96), GTX200 GPUs all don't support VC-1 bitstream processing, only H.264. G98 GPU, Geforce 8200/8300 AMD IGP chipsets and upcoming Geforce 9300/9400 Intel IGP chipsets are the only Nvidia GPUs that support VC-1 bitstream processing in addition to H.264. AFAIK he's using neuron2's CUDA-assisted AVC decoder in an AviSynth script.
It's a neat hack, but having to create an AVS file for every file you want to watch is hardly consumer-friendly, and it'll only work on nVidia cards to boot... i.e. the video gets decoded (mainly) in the graphics card's shaders, then the image is read back into RAM, VSfilter applies the subtitles and the image goes back to video RAM...

My problem: checking whether realmedia is the problem or myself again...
1) .rm is played but only 1 channel is decode (file is confirmed to be 2channels using MediaInfo776), was selected to realmedia under the MPC options-Player-formats. When it was renamed to .rmvb, no sound is heard (maybe its b'cos of the audio code G.722.1 real player 6), MPC options-Player-Formats-DirectShow.
2) If .rmvb(2channels) is play (MPC options-Player-Formats-realmedia), only 1channel is decode.
My computer info: Vista32, real player 11 is installed (shared computer as my brother prefer real player), creative audigy sound card, ffdshow tryouts 2180.
Thanks.
Edit: Seems like real player 11 is the problem, I have uninstalled it and play normal with real player 10 installed. Thanks.
Edit2: Forget about my previous edit, same problem too, get it decode correctly when I select to Formats-DirectShow. Thanks again.

When I play back a VOB, if I drag and drop another VOB onto MPC-HC x64, it will continue to play both. If I hit stop, only one of them stops. If I hit close file, only one of them closes.
Infact, if I hit close while one of the VOBs are playing, it still plays but supposedly closes the file anyway - all the controls are disabled yet its still going.
Rawr. This annoying issue keeps popping up, but it seems to (only?) happen with the splitter that comes with MPC-HC. Any word?

I have a problem. I am using MPC HC to play an .MKV file which contains built-in subtitles. I am using a Sony Vaio FW11S, with a Radeon HD3470 videocard (with Avivo). DXVA works, CPU usage is between 10 - 20% when playing the file and in the MPC decoder properties it says "H.264 bitstream decoder, no FGT" behind DXVA Mode. I am using "EVR custom pres."
Subtitles do not work though. They are loaded, but do not display properly! I see that they are being displayed, but they are displayed as reverted, upside down, little letters in the top of the movie. Yesterday when I tried to watch a movie, they were in the bottom right side. They are the subtitles, because they pop up at the times someone is talking, at the times that the subs should display. See screenshot:

Thanks. I am trying the latest version (v 1.1.818.0). If I load the file now, subtitles do play without it using VobSub, but it uses the CoreAVC decoder. If I disable all input formats in CCCP settings and CoreCodec settings, the video does not load in MPC HC, it just plays the audio!)

I just noticed a problem. I have a DVR, and if I burn something to a DVD-R, I can seek the video, but if I burn the same thing to a DVD+R I can't seek it. This happens in MPC and MPC-HC (1.1.818.0). There is though a difference between the DVD-R and the DVD+R. The DVD-R has a VIDEO_TS folder, but the DVD+R has a VIDEO_TS and a VIDEO_RM folders. Could this be the cause?
I can upload a sample if needed.
PS: I can seek the DVD+R in PowerDVD and VLC.

Anyone know why I get choppy .m2ts playback with the latest builds from xvidvideo.ru? It's not the internal decoders, because when I use Haali as the splitter, no matter what video and audio filters I use, it plays back perfectly. But as soon as I use the internal mpchc ts splitter everything is choppy for m2ts, no matter. If I use the mpc splitter in zoomplayer instead of haali, m2ts playback is choppy in there as well.
Hrm, I noticed that when I use the MPC HC ts splitter for m2ts, when I load the haali renderer OSD to check the specified framerate, it jumps around between 8fps and 14fps, but it says the achieved framerate is ~23.976. When using the Haali splitter the specified framerate and achieved frame is the correct fps of 23.976. I think this might be the cause for the choppy m2ts playback im getting. Anyone know a fix for this?

which catalyst do you use that works? I tried 8.3, 8.4, 8.5, 8.9....
Interestingly:
The cyberlink decoder with DXVA works with VMR 9 (renderless) in PowerDVD
but even the cyberlink decoder gives the same jumping frames in zoomplayer/mediaplayer hc when using VMR 9 renderless and DXVA
I think the problem has two components:
1) somehow Powerdvd initializes VMR 9 renderless differently to MPC HC (and ZOOMPLAYER) so it works regardless of catalyst driver
2) certain versions of catalyst driver (yours) work with the initialization of VMR 9 by MPC HC and ZOOMPLAYER
But as 8.9 doesnt work for me with VMR 9, maybe ATI thinks that powerdvds initilization is the correct way.... maybe that should be incorporated in MPC HC...
I now also tried Catalyst 8.10 RC2 and still no luck. The garbled/jumping frames remain when using DXVA and VMR9 renderless under WinXP (2600 PRO HD AGP). As nobody here got that combination working and Powerdvd with VMR9 with DXVA works i tend to think its a bug in MPCHC. Probably VMR9 renderless needs to be initialized differently for the ATI DXVA engine. Maybe somebody can look into this?

I have similar issues on my asus AH3650 AGP
sometimes the file just randomly corrupts
sometimes the video stops and shows a single/partial/corrupt frame even though the audio still plays
sometimes I can't seek
other times the video plays 100% perfect
EVR(custom) won't use DXVA either
would be nice if haali supported DXVA but I don't see that happening though

Sorry I also had to specify: I'm trying to play a m2ts VC-1 high bitrate which has "internal" subtitles with external subtitles (.sub file) They are playing OK with VMR9 renderless for the same file
Strange though: subs with other files are playing ok with EVR custom
P.S. With v1.1.604.0 beside no subs I have some strange letters on top
EDIT: If I demux the m2ts with eac3to and add the sub file in the same folder I can play the VC-1 + AC3 + sub file(s) OK = subs are working ! What's happening ?
To recap :
original m2ts (VC-1 + AC3+ internal sub) + external sub = Subtitles NOT working with EVR Custom BUT working with VMR9 renderless
demuxed VC-1 + AC3 + external sub = Subtitles are working with EVR custom & VMR9 renderless :mad::stupid::helpful:

so I stay with latest cat and coreavc
I now also tried the 8.6 hotfix driver. But i come to different conclusions. First the good:
1) At first it seems to work better - only very rarely there are the jumping/corrupted frame artifacts. But they are still there!
2) It seems as stable as 8.5 hotfix, so no blue screens
Now the bad:
1) it turns off the AGP Fast Write. This means that the card is much slower for all applications directly writing to the frame buffers: ffdshow, mame, etc.
2) you can check this with powerstrip or in the catalyst control center
3) if you turn AGP Fast Write back on, everything is like before: jumping frames and corruption with dxva and vmr9
Conclusion: ATIs workaround (turning of fast write for AGP) does not solve the problem but merely reduces it. In later drivers ATI enabled AGP Fast Write again, so this "fix" was not deemed to be appropiate. Powerdvd somehow manages to initialize the DXVA Engine/VMR9 so it works even with AGP Fastwrite on. Could some developer please look into this....

Casshern
