I didn't read all 600 pages
is there a way to skip 10 seconds forward like in some other players?
will that be added in the fture
it's great for skipping some boring part of the video or to quickly find what you're looking foe.

I got some strange behaviour with the latest svn revisions. While playing DVD videos with enabled internal audio switcher, sometimes i wont get any sound in the menus. When starting the movie or jumping manually to the title or main menu, the sound "magically" reappears.

Strangely enough, this wont happen very often while using the system default audio renderer (DirectSound => Asus Xonar DX). But it happens most of the time while using ReClock as audio renderer (tested with v1.8.6.2 & v1.8.6.3). It doesn't matter which audio decoder i use - it's always the same. And it only happens with video DVDs. Disabling the audio switcher helps - but it's very annoying, cause i need the audio switcher to set a negative delay, ensuring audio/video synchronicity on my TV.

Till svn 1613 there was no problem at all. Sadly the whole mess started with svn 1623... an no change up to svn 1694 :( .

Hi Casimir666,

There seems to be a long standing bug in the mpc hc m2ts splitter, which affects almost all criterion blu rays (they mostly use mono):

I made a small 5 sec sample, where you can hear the bug pretty clearly. Interestingly the video ends after 5 seconds and the audio is still playing another 5 seconds with mpc hc + ffdshow(as a audio decoder) at half speed:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/omtnmdnjiyy/sample.m2ts

tal.aloni, debugged this in ffdshow and found that the sample works fine with the haali splitter, so the bug must be in the m2ts splitter of mpc hc.

If you find the time, could you please look at this, it seems easy to fix!

hey guys,

I'd like to know why I'm unable to get the internal mpeg2 dxva to work...

my setup:

- win7 home premium
- graphic card:

http://www.bilderkiste.org/show/original/88217ee63510d1a8d9e8a622b7a3907b/Bildschirminhalt_erfassen-2.jpg (http://www.bilderkiste.org/show/details/88217ee63510d1a8d9e8a622b7a3907b/Bildschirminhalt_erfassen-2.jpg.html)

latest available OEM driver:

http://www.bilderkiste.org/show/original/47c2169c974e18c4724fce1affd87f72/Bildschirminhalt_erfassen-3.jpg (http://www.bilderkiste.org/show/details/47c2169c974e18c4724fce1affd87f72/Bildschirminhalt_erfassen-3.jpg.html)

- mpc hc output: EVR sync (though EVR/ EVR cp won't work either) ...

when I choose mpeg-dxva via mpc hc it won't get used but another mpeg2 decoder is used (for example, for testing purposes I've installed CyberLink's PowerDVD9 MPEG-2 decoder v8.4.0.1014 et voilą with the above mentioned settings dxva is working and even the internal microsoft mpeg2 decoder - it's called DTV if I re-call correct - will use dxva for decoding) but no luck with mpc's mpeg dxva decoding...

for VC-1 and h.264 ffdshow's respectively mpc-hc's dxva works flawless but no luck with the internal mpeg2 dxva decoding...

it doesn't bug me that much but I'm interested why I can't get to work...

maybe someone can help to track it down to false setting I've done or whatever...

thanks in advance

edit: dxva checker...

tetsuo55, now that you're opening threads for reporting splitter issues, maybe you could open one up for the internal ASF splitter. The "Use WM ASF Reader" option in "Tweaks" doesn't seem affect which splitter is used, and whether the box is checked or not, I consistently get 20-30 dropped initial frames on WMV1/2/3/VC-1 in ASF content when using MPC-HC. The same does not appear to happen when using WMP11 on Vista x64. In each case, I am using the WMVideo Decoder DMO and WMAudio DMO for the actual decoding. Using ffdshow as a wrapper for the WMV9 decoder or not doesn't make a difference. Thanks.

On monitors with small pixel pitch it is necessary to set windows xp display properties appearance to [large fonts] and dpi to [large 120dpi]. Using those 2 settings the following error occurs:

The [Help] button has been pushed to a second row.

Would someone please fix this error?

You video support ModeMPEG2_IDCT mode, all decoder(ArcSoft, Cyberlink, Nero, Microsoft ...) support this mode.
But MpcVideoDecoder support only ModeMPEG2_VLD for MPEG2+DXVA.

and that means?

A longer explanation (maybe can be useful for others too):

The decoding process is actually made up of several phases:

- Reverse Entropy
- IDCT (Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform)
- MoComp (Motion Compensation)
- Deblocking

A video card can support DXVA for one or more of the phases. You can see which using DXVA Checker. The name of the mode indicates which phase is supported. VLD (Variable Length Decoder) means the decoding process is supported as a whole: alla phases are supported, a mode known also as bitstream.

You video card (as any recent ATI) supports VLD mode for H.264 and VC1, but not for MPEG2, where only IDCT is supported.

Commercial players (like TMT, PDVD, etc...) support IDCT DXVA and thus you have DXVA with them. MPC-HC supports only bitstream (VLD) and thus you have DXVA for H.264 and VC1 only, not for MPEG2.

This is not considered a big problem, though, becuase MPEG2 decoding in software is generally not a big burden for modern CPU.

Hi Mark5,

Regarding the banding issue we discussed in AVS, I'd like to ask if it's possible for MPC-HC DXVA decoder to use dynamic range settings in CCC? I suddenly have the idea of using AVIVO to do luma expansion instead of EVR (to avoid banding). PowerDVD seems to work well to address the banding issue, and do you know what technique do they use? Thanks a lot!

Not sure to understand your question. CCC DR works with MPC-HC decoder because I tried it and things change from 16-235 to 0-255.

I don't know if it is possible to use AVIVO instead of video renderer to control levels. I still haven't understood the relationship between video renderer and video card, probably the renderer developers on this forum (beliyaal, ar-jar, madshi) have a clear vison of that.

As for PDVD9, I don't know it enough.

If
1) you set DR to 16-235 to instruct ATI to expand 16-235 to 0-255
2) use EVR and enable DXVA in MPC

Do you still see banding?

1) According to the tests I did yesterday (but I'm going to test it more thoroughly in the weekend), with my ATI HD5750, setting DR to 16-235 compress levels: 0 becomes 16, 1 becomes 17, 2 becomes 18 and so on; and there is banding;

2) there is banding.

Guys, I really dislike the change made in r1696:

Change : Go to the next/previous file in the directory on the user's click on "skip back"/"skip forward";

At least make it optional, because those buttons are usually used for navigate between chapters or tracks, not completely different files. If the current video/playlist doesn't have chapters and the user has disabled this option they should be greyed out IMO.

EDIT: Not to mention that when you accidentally press the key associated with them in your remote or keyboard you change the file too... crazy.

Did you try this option?
Go to the next/previous file in the directory on the user's click on "skip back"/"skip forward" works when only one file in playlist.
Otherwise, they are working with playlist, as before.
If the current video have chapters "skip back"/"skip forward" works with chapters, as before.

Previously, if in the playlist was only one file, then "skip back"/"skip forward" was disabled.

You don't see the right subtitle. You see the 5th subs. I speak about subs one, two and three above the subs number 5.

See for example for the sub number 1 (at the top of the screen):
the subs complete is:
"RSPK syndrome is the conditionwhere in an esper loses control over themselves, causing a subconscious and uncontrllable outburst of power"

in sub cut it lacks "control over" and "outburst of power"

Check "Position subtitles relative to the video frame".
Wait, If you look properly they are both out of the "video frame" because the frame ends at the blue corners of the video. Windowed mode added those black borders that don't make part of the video. if you disable free window resize and then resize the video the subs will now show like the fullscreen screenshot.
the fansubbers missaligned the subtitles.

Of course I tried it, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this. That's the exact thing I'm opposing to. I do not want that. If I open a movie that's is in, let's say, a 10 movie folder, and it doesn't have chapters I don't want those buttons active so I can accidentally press them (like I've done today) while I'm in the middle of Iron Man's best scene action to see Transformers' beginning.

I understand this may be useful for folders containing audio files, but for those containing video files is awful IMO. If you guys plan to keep it this way, an option to disable it would be great.

I almost finished a customizable OSD size.
It would be great if a test OSD message displays on change setting.
How to call m_OSD.DisplayMessage from MainFrm in CPPageTweaks.cpp?

void CPPageTweaks::OnHScroll(UINT nSBCode, UINT nPos, CScrollBar* pScrollBar)
{
if(*pScrollBar == m_OSD_SizeSlider)
{
m_OSD.DisplayMessage(OSD_TOPLEFT, _T("Test"));
}

__super::OnHScroll(nSBCode, nPos, pScrollBar);
}

Is there a way to set the subtitle load order to prefer external file above the internal subs?

If not, maybe it could be implemented as a "ext" language which would mean external file without language flag? Or maybe just a checkbox "prefer external"?

Thanks, but mpc-hc sould detect that subtitles are out the borders and cut in fullscreen mode and make a translation at the left of the screen to avoid the cut of subs.
Is it possible to make it?

Did you read Kado's post?

@ikarad

It appears to me that MPC-HC (1.3.1613) ignores MPEG4 ASP aspect ratio flags in AVIs when the Overlay Mixer is active (Windows XP SP3).

I changed the aspect ratio of an AVI with XviD using Moitah's MPEG4 Modifier 1.4.4 to "DAR: 16:9" (resulting in a custom PAR for NTSC of 32:27). But MPC-HC displaying the "default" AR still shows it at 720x480 pixels while using the Overlay Mixer as renderer. Using VMR9 Renderless instead, the video was stretched to 16:9.

Is this the expected behaviour? Would it be possible to "support" the Overlay Mixer from the player's side to respect the video internal AR?

Is there a way to set the subtitle load order to prefer external file above the internal subs?

I“d like that too. It would be nice.

Overlay Mixer has also a bug with no mod16 video which are not played using internal filters or not correctly cropped with DVXA, I don't know if it's known ...

X-Dron,

I have an issue with auto refresh changer.
In my system, I have two monitors:
1) My 24 inch PC monitor connected via DVI and it supports 1920*1200 at refresh rate 59 and 60
2) My projector which connected via HDMI and it support 1920*1080 at refresh rate 23, 50 and 59.
I've made two CCC profiles so that if I choose PC profile, my projector is disconnected and my PC monitor becomes primary monitor. If I choose TV profile, my PC monitor is disconnected and my projector becomes primary monitor.
Here is the issue when auto refresh changer:
When I switch to projector, the available refresh rate are only valid for PC
When I switch to PC monitor, the available refresh rate are only valid for projector
I also noticed that in EVR mode, it says the refresh rate of current display is at 0HZ.

I'm wondering if it's something wrong with my setup?
Thanks a lot in advance!!

Check "Position subtitles relative to the video frame", it's under subtitles, default style.

I think that is normal because Overlay does not support dynamic resizing like most other renderers do.

Ok, I've been trying sereval setting modifications, but could not track that issue.
Please state your system specs like gpu and so, also your mpc settings like video renderer, used filters, dxva etc...
also make sure you are using the latest MPC HC (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-classic-home-cinema-x86-x64/) , DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3) and video drivers.
