Can someone please revert the icons back to the old icons and compile a version without the ugly new icons? You should not just check in the new icons without showing the mock ups first, especially when a lot of people uses XP SP3 with Windows Classic look.As far as i am aware these icons where approved by 10000's of users.
The existing icons are just as ugly though.
I think the best solution is the following 2 steps:
1. Let users create their own icons (based on yet to be determined rules and existing limits)
2. The best ones go into a voting thread, thread gets communicated in all relevant pages, after a predermined time, voting is closed and winner is selected.
First step is comparing the current icons in a single screenshot.

No, tetsuo55, the changes were made without even asking the thread here. The world still uses XP, mind you, it hasn't changed over to Vista or Win7. Not to mention the usability factor has decreased as pointed out by khagaroth. And I'm sure everyone "appreciates" the new stereo icon which attracts all the attention for the wrong reasons.I agree that we should have asked the opinion of the users in this thread too (it all happened very fast), that doesnt invalidate the fact that the icons where tested by a large group of users.
We can never please everyone, some people hate the current icons, others do and will hate new icons.
The icons are going to be changed (its the only gui upgrade we can do without slowing down the player).
Obviously the new icons have to be usable, and have to fit in the mpc-hc theme(does not have to match windows theme)
This is an open source project, we will gladly accept new icons (which we will put up for discussion and voting before commiting)

The MPC-HC theme always was Windows Media Player 6.4 style, which did not have this green/yellow style at all.

No, works fine here. Tested with VMR9 and Haali'S Renderer and tried avi and mkv files.

doesnt wotk for me too. but if you demux the h.264 stream and remux it into a .mkv container with mkvmerge then it will play with revision1136 but not any newer version. the same happens to this sample i posted earlier: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nlwq0aduggj
i've got a sample (h.264, 720p, 50fps) that works fine with version 1230 or older, but not with 1237 any more (video is full of artefacts). (demuxing and remuxing to .mkv has the same results.) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?itu2w3mq0qn

Casimir says branching is stupidly difficult with SF SVN, do you know an easier way to do it?
Errr... branching in SVN is nothing more than taking a revision, doing a cheap copy of it to "/branches/<some name>" in the repo and continuing to work on it from there.
It might get more interesting with merging changes from trunk to the branch (if neccessary), but even that isn't "stupidly difficult" - and I couldn't imagine how SF's SVN should be any different than other subversion repositories in that regard...

Sorry couldn't resist as I hate them with passion for various reasons, you can ignore this:
Re 10000's of users - CCCP users (the developers even less) aren't exactly a good statistical sample.
@Everyone who does not like the new icons.
Please give detailed discriptions(including mockups made in a drawing program like paint) on how you would fix them.
This can be used to create icons that are more suited.
No description needed, see the uploaded images, it's self-explanatory. Aside from the old 256x256 icon being a bit blurred, there was nothing wrong with it. And if you convert the old icons to the new png format, they are as small as the new craptastic icons.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, it'd be great to be able to on/off toggle the full-screen D3D mode, without having to exit the player - Zoomplayer does this nicely with simple alt+enter.
edit: Problem seems to appear only when files are drag'n'dropped into mpc.

What I dislike most about the old icons are the colors and font of the letters. A single color for the file extensions would look better imo.

If we use the same outline, i think the best way is to go with the old style with big font for the extension, so that it is easily visible when the icons are small

What do you guys think of this for the toolbar and statusbar?
All icons have a matching theme(closely matching media buttons).
Currently unused space inside the button coordinates can be used by slightly larger buttons.
The last is interesting for HDTV use, or for those who dont see well.

i see. I agree 16x16 will be a problem.
I don't know much about Windows Icons, but can you have two different icons, like a different one for 16x16 and different one for bigger sizes ?
This is the problem we will face as we move away from default icons and still want to maintain readability of the file extensions at such small sizes.
How about this then

I'd like one icon for movies/videos and a second for audio/music. IIRC, the "icons" part of the install were about 12mb, which is huge. Also, the file association code is so messed up that tweaking icons seems odd.

What's up with the speaker icon in the first? Yuk.It's a relatively standard (modern?) way of representing "mute", it matches all my hardware buttons and on screen icons, except for 1 of my remotes and windows7. Maybe the lines should stick out less.
Also we are are limited to 16 colors, no transparency and a tiny canvas to paint on.

In Revision 1237, DXVA for H.264 is broken for Intel GMA 4500 chipsets:
http://www.silent-dreams.de/images/screenshot.jpg
In Revision 1207, playback of MPEG4 AVC is working well (tested in Quicktime, MKV and TS container)
OS: Vista Ultimate
Renderer: EVR Custom
MPC: Revision 1237 32Bit
Remark:
DXVA is broken only, if "decoding thread number" in MPC decoder properties is >1. If switched back to 1, playback is fine. As already remarked, In 1230 playback is okay, also with decoding thread number !=1.

Can the seeker be changed to the style of the visual style?Nice, my opinion:
1. Smaller icons difficult to see on High resolution display and seeing impaired.
2. I think the "mute icon" looks too much to the "no audio error icon", but it does make the theme feel more complete
3. The sound channel icons are too bright now, because they are filled with white

I'm seeing a lot of crashes with EVR custom on Windows 7 x64 RTM (evr.dll = 6.1.7600.16385), nvidia 6600GT with 190.38 drivers. The crash happens when I seek a couple of times and eventually when playing xvid.avi x264.mkv h264.m2ts vc1.m2ts with built-in decoders, coreavc, ffdshow and wmv9. I've tried all resizing methods, alternate vsync, D3D fullscreen, not reinitializing and various buffer settings. However old renderer, overlay mixer, VMR7/9, haali, and EVR work great. The same ini settings work flawlessly with EVR custom in Windows 7 x64 RC and Vista x64 SP2. I've tried MPC-HC builds 908, 1179, and 1237. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Hi all,
I am creating a video / audio presentation for a charity event. I am creating a lossless avi file with uncomprsesed audio in adobe premiere. mpc-hc plays this 60fps clip flawlessly except for the first 2-3 seconds where the audio is mute. If I pause the clip, and drag the slider back to the start and restart, I can now hear the first few seconds.
I understand this might be the result of some sort of buffering? but I don't think its acceptible. In my case, this first 2 seconds is essential and I don't want to spend time reediting these presentations to have blank spots at the start.....
I have tested with and without reclock / ffdshow, its mpc-hc thats doing it.
Regards,

if you could change the seeker like iron2000 did, that'd be great...the Win95 legacy needs to go :D
or better, make a round seeker? and the ability to completely disable volume control(including the ugly triangle) would be the icing on the cake.

- MKV and TS transport stream container (1080i) == failed (see screenshot)

80% of trying to playback such files is resulting in a crashing MPC, 20% results in faulty playback (screenshot alike).
BTW, I'm using for this tests only the internal splitters and decoders.
Interesting: Different to prior 1237 release, now MKV and TS playback is also broken, if you set in MPC Video Decoder "Decoding Thread Number" == 1

i've been using MPC basically since the ?beginning? (guliverkli) before the HC thing (cause i always hated mp9 and asorts)
never have i found it necessary to post in this thread .. until now
i just have to strongly agree with some people here
GO back to the Original icons (and bar/audio icons)
MPC is and should be a BASIC clean/fast and very versitile player
don't go goofing around with "eyecandy" for those few users who want them
maybe in the future you could opt for "skinning" like Winamp
