First of all I would like to thank the developers for a great program and good support. It's really appreciated!
I've found one issue that I hope to see resolved and its that the stand-alone filter for MPEG-2 decoding (I havent tested all filters) but this one is broken at least when using it with the MPEG-2 splitter. Using the built-in MPEG-2 decoder (in MPC) works fine though. (WinXP SP2)
In case you're wondering which file I mean its this one mpchc_x86_v1.1.0.0_Mpeg2DecFilter.zip which can be found at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=170561 .
I hope you'll be able to resolve it.
Thanks in advance.

I too would like to thank the developers for a fabulous program. Up until now I've had problems getting any hardware acceleration of 1080p H.264 mkv's. To make a long story short, I downloaded r488 today and had instant success.
As reported above and elsewhere, older encodes just give a green screen with audio. And one (but only one) of several newer encodes has a serious blocking problem, which I recall reading about in earlier posts--I'll dig through to try to find the appropriate settings to cure it if it's a decode/rendering issue. But I couldn't be more pleased with playback of recently encoded mkv's.
Equipment: E6600, 8600 GTS, JVC HD-1 projector. CPU usage in the range of 7 - 10%. Full subtitles with EVR Custom. Absolutely great.
Thanks a ton.

I couldn't find the 16-235->0-255 shader in the current stable so I googled and found this:
sampler s0 : register(s0);
#define Const_1 (16.0/255.0)
#define Const_2 (255.0/219.0)
float4 main(float2 tex : TEXCOORD0) : COLOR
{
return( ( tex2D( s0, tex ) - Const_1 ) * Const_2 );
}
There's no reason this wouldn't work would it? At least my colours don't seem washed out anymore.

Hi,
i can use the VC1 decoder in DXVA mode,
but the player doesn't start when trying to play 29.97 interlaced TV VC1 (concert and documentary) material.
On films the VC1 plays regularly.
There is some problem with pure interlaced material?
How i can solve?
Thanks

Thanks diizzy. I don't know if you meant it or not, but I was looking for where to get the standalone H264 decoder bundled in MPC-HC.
I am still having an issue with EVR, as I have explained below. If someone can help me with that I would appreciate it :)
1) MediaPortal allows for EVR output, when I select this as the output it appears as though a line of pixels from the bottom appear on the top and the same goes for the left and right. This also happens in MPC-HC when the output is set to EVR. However if the output is set to EVR - Custom, this does not happen. Is there a way to fix this for EVR output?

i've come with a VC1 ts file, the video clutters in certain positions, while it didn't happen when dxva is off or using M$ decoder, is that mentioned before? the thread is going too long...
i can't try powerdvd to see if this is an ati bug, since powerdvd do not accept that file...
using vista x64 sp1, radeon hd2400, catalyst 8.3, evr custom, haali splitter 29/03/2008, stable 1.1.0.0/r488/r489 clutters at the same position
i'll try to upload the clip if i found a suitable cutter for this
and i can't find the level fix shader neither, or is it able to add custom shaders?
yet another problem: when i switch audio stream(in haali splitter), the play stucks, and can't continue anyway, i tried to switch from internal audio decoder to ac3filter, but the prob won't go, [edit]um by writing this, i just found it also happens on clsid's guliverkli2 mpc builds too:(

Hmm... Seems like I made my conclusion a bit fast.
Turns out that MPCVideoDec.ax incorrectly registers as a decoder for a lot of video formats that it isnt capable to decode (including MPEG-2). Is it possible to change this so it only registers H.264/VC-1 which it is supposed to?

I have the exact same problem. Running mpc-hc r489, GeForce 8600 GT, Forceware 174.74, Windows XP x64 SP2.
Same result in both VMR9 windowed and renderless with 2 different clips (one trailer from apple.com and one from a blu-ray). The clips work fine if I disable DXVA.

why can't connect output filter?

The filter didn't connect because you have to :
- add the DXVA_Mpeg2 for Mpeg2 type in MPCVideoDecFilter.cpp
- Modify CFGManagerCustom::CFGManagerCustom function to tell mpc MPCVideoDec can decode Mpg2.
By the way, i don't think you graphics card can do bitstream decoding for Mpeg2. So if you want to implement a DXVA decoding, it can be only Motion compensation or (and?) IDCT. In this case, you cannot send the raw slice, but you have to do additionnal parsing to extraction motion vectors. The kind of buffer to give are differents (should be written in Microsoft documentation)

Correction: (sorry - should have finished my tests before posting)
The DVD playback problems have been fixed.
The DVD menu problem still exists.
The DVD menu problem was introduced after 1.0.11.0, since that version works fine with DVDs.
No version 1.1.0.0 or later works correctly with DVD menus.
The problem is that the highlighting of the cursor has vanished. Also, use of right-click in DVD menus will cause MPC to hang.
PS Why are the Beta versions listed as "1.1.0.2" when there has been no "1.1.0.1", only "1.1.0.0" ?

hey guys,
I've got a very annoying problem, I can override the vertical placement of ASS subs contained in MKV files.....but not SSA :eek:
they remain stuck at the bottom of the picture :(
and I've got a DLP projector, so you don't wanna have subs off the picture otherwise you get massive rainbows :(
I've tried with the built-in vobsub of MPC HC, and also with VSFilter....to no success :(
if anyone's got an idea, thanks :D

Now that I've gotten DXVA to work with H.264 1080p mkv's with r488 (the E6600 cruises at 8 - 10% while the 8600 GTS is doing most of the work), I'm on a quest to improve standard DVD appearance. Does anyone care to comment on the superiority of PowerDVD Ultra vs MPC-HC (presumably using ffdshow post-processing) for uprezzing to a 1080p projector? Dunno what the encoding is, probably MPEG-2 or VC1.
My apologies in advance if this is OT.

It's an old bug: when you open a dual audio source the splitters're reporting the audios to the decoders at the same time. You can see 2 ffdshow icon at the tray, and check the pin infos ...
In contrast (I realized this yesterday) Haali's splitter is reporting only the current audio !
I've tried mkv and avi container, so I'm not sure if the built-in splitter is responsible for this ...
It's more noticeable if you put the DeDynamic filter ( http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/dedynamic02.zip ) at the end of the chain (via External filters, and set it to Prefer): the playback is very-very choppy and the audio is totally screwed up ... :(
And I think this bug is responsible for the multiple subtitles (ass) strange behavior ...
I hope you can fix this long existed bug :)
Thanks

Probably bug in Audio Switcher:
When switching audio tracks using Haali Media Splitter, the Audio Switcher filter sometimes doesn't reload when the graph is rebuilt.
This occurs most often when playing m2ts files with multiple soundtracks - for example, a movie with an LPCM track and 2 AC3 tracks. Switching from one to the other and back results in the loss of Audio Switcher. :(
I believe this happens when a different audio decoder needs to be loaded for each track being switched to.

just found how to get the color space shader, the shader was saved in the ini, i manually edit that ini and borrow the shader code from clsid's guliverkli2 build, it works, i thinking mpc needs documents...
i saw reports that r488 added this filter, but i'm still missing it in r489, maybe the ini is old, and the new binary didn't add new shader to it, i think it's better not to save shader in ini, unless it's been customized so must be saved.

The shader isn't new, afaik it's included for a long time already. Remove the [Shaders] section from the ini file. That will reset the shader settings to the defaults.

Thanks Casimir666..
I added some code, subtype etc

It's source code for libmpeg2, dxvampeg2.
also,
I checked DXVA Checker.(http://bluesky23.hp.infoseek.co.jp/)
It's my result.

Don't you trust DVVA checker util?
I never say we shouldn't trust DXVA checker, i only wondered if you video card was supporting bitstream for Mpeg2. DXVA checker says you card support Mpeg2 mode C, D and IDCT. The problem is : what is mode C and mode D? I never see clear document about this (according to Cyberlink decoder status mode D is IDCT...)
1) I added filter type
in FGManager.cpp
CFGManagerCustom::CFGManagerCustom(LPCTSTR pName, LPUNKNOWN pUnk, UINT src, UINT tra)
{
..
..
// add mpeg2 type
pFGF->AddType(MEDIATYPE_DVD_ENCRYPTED_PACK, MEDIASUBTYPE_MPEG2_VIDEO);
pFGF->AddType(MEDIATYPE_MPEG2_PACK, MEDIASUBTYPE_MPEG2_VIDEO);
pFGF->AddType(MEDIATYPE_MPEG2_PES, MEDIASUBTYPE_MPEG2_VIDEO);
pFGF->AddType(MEDIATYPE_Video, MEDIASUBTYPE_MPEG2_VIDEO);
..
..
}
and
2) add mpeg2 type
in MPCVideoDecFilter.cpp
// DXVA modes supported for Mpeg2 TODO
DXVA_PARAMS DXVA_Mpeg2 =
{
14, // PicEntryNumber
1, // ConfigBitstreamRawMin
{ &DXVA_ModeMPEG2_A, &DXVA_ModeMPEG2_C, &GUID_NULL },
{ DXVA_RESTRICTED_MODE_MPEG2_A, DXVA_RESTRICTED_MODE_MPEG2_C, 0 }
};
FFMPEG_CODECS ffCodecs[] =
{
..
..
//mpeg2 type
{ &MEDIASUBTYPE_MPEG2_VIDEO, CODEC_ID_MPEG2VIDEO, MAKEFOURCC('m','p','2','v'), &DXVA_Mpeg2 },
};
const AMOVIESETUP_MEDIATYPE CMPCVideoDecFilter::sudPinTypesIn[] =
{
..
..
// Mpeg2 Types
{&MEDIATYPE_Video, &MEDIASUBTYPE_MPEG2_VIDEO},
};
Your graphic card didn't support mode A, so you should put only mode C and (or?) mode D. There is a probability ConfigBitstreamRawMin field should be set to 0 if it's not bitstream mode. I presume mode C is motion compensation, and mode D is IDCT but i'm not 100% sure...
5) debug log.

ASSERT (SUCCEEDED (hr));
Hehehe, the complicated things start here... You have connected decoder and renderer in mode C, what kind of buffer should you give? Motion compensation vector, IDCT stuff or bitstream ?
Look you MP for a tip ;)

A workaround might be to convert the SSA to ASS format using Subtitle Workshop. I dunno if this will break karaoke subs though.
actually, after more in-depth tests, it seems that I can or cannot override the vertical placement of any type of subs contained in MKV files ?!
is there like a possible tag in these subs files that will make sure that the subs stay at the top bottom of the picture no matter what ? :(
or just a bug in VSfilter/vobsub included in MPC HC ?!

Is it possible to use the Shaders function to make 1088 video appear as 1080 to avoid showing lines at the bottom of some sources or with some decoders?
Is there another way this could be implemented in the player?

The DVD menu problem was introduced after 1.0.11.0, since that version works fine with DVDs.
Has Clsid mpc version the same bug?

Release 492 can be download from here : http://www.zshare.net/download/10468882ef350ad6/
Should fix :
- Macroblocks for somes files with H264 DXVA decoder
- VC1 decoder broken in release 488
@tetsuo55 & CruNcher
I think more and more that SAR is not an incompatibility issue for the DXVA decoding. If you want to try, i have added a key in registry to disable SAR check in decoder :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Filters\MPC Video Decoder [ CompatibilityMode (DWORD) ] :
- CompatibilityMode = 1, will display messagebox when incompatible file are open
- CompatibilityMode = 2, disable SAR check
- CompatibilityMode = 3, display messagebox and disable SAR check

ok so I've run more tests with the vertical override thingie......
for external subs, I can move them vertically as much as I want....but as soon as they are muxed into a MKV file, it doesn't work anymore ?! :eek:
any chance for a bug fix please ? :D

First of all, thanks Casimir666 for all your hard work on this application.
I've played with various files disabling the SAR detection, and files that I know are properly encoded (DVD transcodes, level 3.1) for dxva work great once SAR detection is disabled. Most of the other ones (both 3.1 and 4.1) that show the dialog that it found SAR that aren't otherwise compatible don't play at all. Usually the first frame get's rendered and that's the end of it. They do show that dxva is loaded though.

VC1 film-based playback is working great with the internal decoder, but I can't get any interlaced content to play at all. I think someone else had a similar problem with a previous build. Is this just a current 'bug', or is there no support for such material?
The clip I'm trying is a BD VC1 interlaced, from Celine Dion. Actually this plays badly with the MS decoder, so I'd love it if you can get this type of VC1 working too! Plays fine in PDVD, but who wants to use that ;)

I think you'll need to research the SSA/ASS file formats to do this. I am pretty sure it is documented somewhere - Google should help! Good luck.

anyone noticed my report about DXVA VC-1 on #1565 ? can't find any suitable ts cutter, suggest one?
TransportStream Splitter (http://www.ffprojects.net/tssplitter/) can split and merge TS files.
