please use this checklist http://mpc-hc.wiki.sourceforge.net/Troubleshooting+guidelines
If the problem still happens after doing all that report it on the tracker on sourceforge.

Also you want to test this special build : http://www.bahnhofbredband.se/~wb118529/9012/mplayercgs.exe

Please test only 32bit for now.

I enabled the internal Matroska filter rather than Haali on the 32 bit build and I didn't see any corruption in over 40 minutes. I'm going to watch a few videos and report back, but it may have been Haali that was the issue.

If the problem persists, I will report back with the requested information. Thanks!

By the way, does the x64 version of MPC-HC offer any practical advantages over the 32 bit version in terms of performance or speed? I found the performance to be pretty much identical to that of the 32 bit version for H.264 software decoding with CoreAVC and hardware decoding with the included filters.

DXVA-accelerated MOV and MKV (MPEG4-AVC) are looking good (G45 GPU inside a Lenovo SL500). The corrupted looking TS comes from a Dreambox DM800 HDTV DVB-Box, which is very common and often used here in germany.

- Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit
- 4GB RAM, Core2Duo CPU
- MPC-HC X86 (all xvideo.ru versions tested, actual related build 1.3.276 and 1.3.278)
- Lenovo SL500 with G45 GPU

Of course I'm publishing a short test sample (2-3MB) for debugging, if needed.

Regards,
Thomas

Er, IMHO the checklist is overkill, too much time. Some bugs have never been looked at and having to answer all these questions a third time is too much. The bug reports I've contributed to have enough info to debug them - they are parts of code not used by many, but can be confirmed.

I hope we can put all the debug stuff into mpc-hc itself and reduce it to only 3 things to check for the end user.

Can you list your bug reports? I will check each one and tell you which information to add (if any)

I recently upgraded to the latest version version of MPC-HC (1.3.1249) and have enabled the DXVA codecs for my Intel G45 based laptop. My laptop, an Asus U81A, has an Intel 4500MHD and appears to be supported. I can decode 720p and 1080p x264 videos using the DXVA H.264 codec, however I see artifacting every 15-30 minutes. The display is overlayed with a green/red blocky tinge which disappears after a few seconds.

I originally thought the issue was due to file corruption. However, the issue does not arise when using CoreAVC for playback. In addition, I found the issue with several 720p and 1080p L4.1 x264 videos, all of which passed MD5 checks ensuring that the files were not corrupted. I used the EVR Custom output mode and used the latest Haali Media Splitter.

I am using the 32 bit version of MPC-HC on Windows 7 Ultimate. DXVA also works on MPC-HC x64, however, I have not used it enough to discover whether the problem occurs there. I will test with the internal matroska splitter to see whether the problem goes away.

Thanks again for adding hardware acceleration for Intel G45 based systems. It really helps to keep my system cool, and save battery life. I hope I can get this problem resolved, though. If you need any more info, or if I can be of assistance by testing, please feel free to ask.

Jason

I have your same problem, but with ATI mobility video card and newer ATI Catalyst: as I report in this post:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1318002#post1318002

I have this problem with newer Catalyst (> 9.1) and my mobility ATI Radeon HD 3650. The artifacts appears dor few seconds (until the current scene changes) and randomly after 10-15 min. There are some glithes when I see H264 videos with subtitles, especially when it is rendered at desktop resolution. The problem occurs either with MKV or MP4 files and with internal or external splitter (Gabest or Haali).

I test DNA Drivers, that has previous DXVA Catalyst implementation for my mobility card and all works perfectly with the same settings, so I think that this is a MPC-HC DXVA problem with new DXVA methods of ATI Catalyst and mobility card.

I tried 1249 and 1276 revision, but the problem still persists, rather, with the latest version, there are some green block that with 249 doesn't appear. I have DirectX August 09 version installed and C++ 2005 and 2008 runtime installed with all the updates.

If you need other infos, please contact me. This problem occurs with all H.264 videos (below High@L4.1 specific that are ATI limit) and I can't reproduce it with short video because of its occurence and randomness

Can you please fill in this checklist:

Subtitles are known to cause artifacts, tearing and stuttering.
Please make sure you run all your tests on a file that does not have subtitles and that you have disabled the internal subtitle renderer and vsfilter.

It is explained in the checklist

I have the same problems with most (or all?) x264/mkv files I play on my Dell Latitude e4300 Laptop with Intel GMA4500HD graphics. DXVA works and keeps the fan quiet (which is SOOO great), but I also have those corrupt (I-?) Frames every 15-30 minutes!

I'm using Win7-RTM 64bit with the latest MPC-HC final build (also 64bit), but I've also had this with older SVN builds. Have not tried SVN builds newer than the official release yet.

I use EVR Custom and the internal Matroska Splitter, and have installed the latest DirectX Enduser Runtimes. Regarding Intel Drivers, I've had this with all the Intel drivers that were auto-installed by Win7, and it continues to be a problem with the latest intel driver that I installed yesterday by hand (which is from 2009-08-13 according to the device manager).

I'm using DXVA even though I have these corruptions because the quiet fan is more important to me than the corruptions once-in-a-while. But of course if this could be fixed, it would be REALLY great.

I guess I could cut out some short samples tonight from a few MKVs using mkvmerge, if needed.

Does the corruption go away if you

A: Disable subtitles completely
B: Use this build: http://www.bahnhofbredband.se/~wb118529/9012/mplayercgs.exe

I just made a big step :) and installed Windows7 x64. A lot of questions rise up after some hours playing with mpc-hc now:

first of all: I would like to know which settings are best to pick (in XP SP3 I used EVR custom) as for output.

Also, I did see that windows7 uses directx11 and in mpc-hc I can only select directx9 (need this for subtitles). Do I just pick directx9 in the mpc-hc config and will this be ok then?

I ll post my first problem here and hope I can work step by step to a 100% working config:

problem 1:
my .mkv files seems to play fine until now. `however, I also have some .wmv and dvd (video_ts etc) material. When selecting evr custom as output I have no picture (only some 'colory screens' sometime). This can be solved by choosing EVR (not custom) but I want evr custom. (or maybe this isnt needed at all in w7 anymore but thats why I ask :))

I ll leave for this now.....

thanks

one more edit for this post: do I still need the directx aug2009 update or is this not relevant at all anymore since directx11 is installed on w7?

On win7 EVR-CP with default settings should be enough (and if you use GS build you should enable a sync function)

Since the version changed to 1.3.xxxx I have been unable to get DTS audio out over SPDIF using the internal filters. Last working version was 1.2.1179 (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/view/834/2/).

When I upgrade to any svn build from 1245 on I am no longer getting DTS audio over SPDIF using the internal filters. If I use Spdifer or any other external SPDIF filter to handle the DTS stream (including registering MpaDecFilter.ax from the svn 1179 standalone filters pack as a system filter and loading it as an external filter) then everything is fine. When I downgrade back to svn 1179 it works perfect as well.

Tested with multiple files with both AC3 and DTS audio and every time the files with AC3 audio will output audio over the SPDIF and the DTS coded audio files won't.

The SPDIF output in question is from the IDT onboard audio of an Intel DG965WH mobo which is running the latest drivers from the Intel site. Nothing changes in system settings and nothing changes in MPC-HC settings just the build number, 1179=good, 1245+=no DTS over SPDIF. I have cleaned the registry and .ini settings and nothing seems to make a difference.

Since registering the old svn filter works with the new build I would say the problem here lies with the MpaDecFilter.ax filter itself. I can confirm that this was not present up until svn 1179 and that as of svn 1245 (and up until as least 1280) it is a problem. Any suggestions and is anyone else having similar issues with DTS streams over SPDIF using internal filters?

Lastly, I am currently running svn 1280 (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/view/853/2/) x86 build on Vista 32-bit. And yes I'm running the most current DirectX (Aug 2009) and yes my Windows Updates are current and no I'm not running any codec packs such as K-Lite or CCCP.

All windows versions, from 2000 to 7 64bit

I don't like that I have to install a DX update but can understand it, in StaxRip I'm always using the newest .NET tech as there are usually quite a few cool new features. In other smaller tools I've releases I'm using only the .NET features included with Vista so people don't have to bother installing a update.

Microsoft has a policy of never including redists with servicepacks and new windows versions

MPC-HC uses the directX redist extensively, and with every new update we rely on it more and more.
unlike .net, directx does not cause any overhead when not being used

Can one of the dev's or compilers update the compiling instruction to match the current state

-Several dependencies included in svn
-DirectX, SDK and VC have been updated

i updated as many links as possible on the wiki:
https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/mpc-hc/index.php?title=How_to_compile_the_MPC

Here is the document in the svn:
http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc/trunk/Compilation.txt?revision=1205&view=markup

Both have to be as accurate, easy and noob proof as possible

tetsuo55, I'm going to be updating my bug reports with the new information thats required (with your recent comments to all bug reports).

I was wondering if its appropriate to make a bug report against mpc-hc not warning the user of things like directx versions being too old etc. Only because I frequent these forums, I know that I had to download the august directx redist to get ps2.0 scaling working corretly, other users won't be so fortunate though.

Does FFdshow dts spdif work?

Yes, SPDIF pass-through works fine for FFdshow for both DTS and AC3. To date I've tested (latest working build in brackets) FFdshow (v. 3071), Spdifer (v. 0.3), AC3filter (v. 1.63b) and MPC - Audio Decoder filter (svn 1179). Its only the current MPC-HC internal filter for DTS that fails to pass any info through SPDIF. If there are any other pass-through filters you want me to test then let me know, those 4 are the only ones I could think of to try and they all work. Any thoughts?

The software update thing should be added to the feature request tracker

If MPC only works properly with a certain version of the d3dx dll, then it should only attempt to use that specific version, not any older version.

It's a known problem with the Intel drivers it seems. You just have to be patient and wait until Intel fixes their drivers.

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17801/eng/relnotes_winvista_gfx.htm

I've run into the artifcating/corruption issue again with a few 1080p L4.1 MKV videos when using DXVA acceleration on my 4500MHD using the internal matroska splitter. Should I submit a full bug report? The problem sounds like it's caused by the bug in Intel's driver so I'm not sure if a report would be of any value.

you forgot to install directx aug2009 and its causing everything you posted about

On win7 EVR-CP with default settings should be enough (and if you use GS build you should enable a sync function)

thanks! I have no internet connection on my HTPC at the moment. Is the aug. package also available for full download if you don t have a connection?

edit: nevermind, found the package

thanks for all your quick responses tetsuo!

the installation helped me with a lot of problems. Still, there are some remaining issues when playing standard def. dvds:

1. when I play a regular dvd (.vob files etc) no subtitles are shown (I know there are there on the dvd and I did select them in the languages menu, however, there are not displayed)

2. in the menu I can navigate but the menus dont 'highlight' so its guessing for me where eg. the square in the title menu is at that moment.

3. in the left corner of MPC=HC I see 'playing (DXVA)'. In the filters this isnt shown (ps. I dont want/need DXVA)

thanks

2. is a known problem with dvd navigator / mpeg2 decoder combo problem.
3. probably means your mpeg2 decoder (which doesnt appear to be compatible with the dvd navigator) is using dxva.

Make a screenshot of the CTRL+J statistics open and rightmouseclick filters opened for further troubleshooting.

but why is it that this worked ok on xp sp3 when I used the same MPC-HC settings?

Here are some screens:
The first screenshot shows a menu of my dvd. When I used XP there was a white square shown @play extended version.

The second screenshot shows the DXVA notification and the third a CTRL+J screen

I still need to know which filters you use.
and cca is probably right, i don't use dxva for my dvd's and menu's work reasonably well.

This is a known problem, but there might be a solution for it eventually, there is a POC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_of_concept) where dvd navigation works perfectly with any combination of navigator/decoder.
Hopefully it can be used eventually to get dvd navigation working better in mpc-hc

Not quite true. Using corresponding DVD navigator and MPEG2 decoder filters you are able to use DXVA under Windows Vista & Windows 7, without any DVD menu issues.

And like tetsuo55 says, it might be even possible to use mixed DVD navigator and MPEG2 decoders. But it would require some extra support from the directshow player itself (it is easier from the developers point of view just to ask users to have matching filters in use).

With extra support from the player it is possible, there are ways. With just a simple automatic filter graph it will just not work as it is in any player. One such way was coded in ZoomPlayer, by connecting the Subpicture Out pin of the decoder to a second input pin of the Video Renderer.

You are using the crappy ms mpeg2 decoder which uses DXVA

Try using the internal mpeg2 decoder instead.

And IMO you should use Jpg instead of png. Png is not adapted for video...

Another question: I have installed W7 the X64 version. I just downloaded the X64 MPC-HC version and X64 ffdshow. Is it correct that Haali and CoreAVC are not supported and that I cannot use them as external filters? (and in this case have to 'downgrade' to MPC-HC and FFdshow x86?)
