Has anyone else noticed that when pausing DVDs and then seeking, it'll unpause itself?

Also, for some reason VMR9 renderless causs enormous audio crackling on non-DVDs compared to the old MPC, but since EVR doesn't, I can use that (but not to watch DVDs, it always says macrovision failure if I don't rip first, huh). Still testing things out though.

The sound card is a turtle beach 5.1 external, maybe it doesn't happen with normal realteks and creatives.

I used the CasimirMod for a few days now and Yeah it really works great with the EVR but today I noticed that the DVD Contorl doesn't work with this Mod. I used the Gabest release and I had no problems there but with The Casimir Mod it is not possible for me to navigate through menues...e.g. when selecting szenes in the DVD or Root Menu. Is it possible that I did anything wrong in the configuration? I use Vista with the EVR.

Thanks a lot

Alex

Edit: Just forgotten to say: With the mouse it work...you can't see any selection arrows or something like that but when you click on it works

There are no default keys for navigating through menus in MPC, so you probably have to set whatever keys you want to use for menu up/down/left/right/enter again as I believe Casimir666's builds don't use the configuration of Gabest's older builds - I could be wrong on this, though...

Thank you for your answer. There are no keys defined in Casimirs release but I did that already, no improvement. The thing is that you even don't see any navigation arrows or "highlighted signs" in this Mod. In Gabest release you can see that and after defining keys you can navigate through DVD menues. Perhaps I did anything wrong in the configuration but there is no option I did not try yet.

Any ideas or is this function not implemented

Thanks again

Alex

Default keyboard shortcuts for DVD navigation are :
- Alt+R : Root menu
- Alt+T : Title menu
- Alt+Arrows : Menu navigation
- Alt+Space : activate menu

Navigation with mouse didn't work with EVR yet (mouse click is not working). For "highlighted signs" i thought i had fixed it, but maybe there is still some problems...

MSDN's DirectX section (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219837.aspx) (especially the HLSL reference) might be a start... :)

That should be about the same documentation that you get when you install the full DirectX SDK...

Thanks for the info. :)
The only problem with this, that it's a reference manual, and I'm missing the basics. I keep searching ... :)

I've found this: http://www.facewound.com/tutorials/shader1/

Well, there's that HLSL tutorial (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb173495.aspx) just a few TOC entries down.

Dunno how basic the basics you need are, though - I'd have said looking at and understanding the existing shaders in MPC would be a good starting point...

ok i don't get it today i got the new nvidia driver 160.04 from guru3d and i tried it with MPC and some mkv files just to see if anything changed with dxva2.0 and my 8600gt card. The think now is that i
get subtitles(internal in mkv files and external) with directvobsub, because with previous drivers i got only audio and no video when i tried to load internal mkv subs with EVR. The problem now is that once Directvobsub loads i don't get any hardware acceleration from my 8600 even if EVR is the renderer, i tried the custom EVR renderer in MPC also but i could never get HA in it, probably because it uses directx9 calls and not dx10 calls, am i right?
Boy i wish that someone could fix this because with my p4 3.0Ghz CPU i can't watch anything with subtitles even with coreavc i get slow downs on some scenes.
I don't know how directvobsub works but maybe if we could get the internal MPC subtitles to work with EVR as well as MKV subs it would be fantastic.

@skafidask

You have to use MPC builtin subtitles engine.

I can't use MPC bultin engine because in EVR it is not supported, also i don't get any dxva2.0 with EVR custom even on files that don't have subs. I use powerdvd x264 decoder with vista 32bit and 8600gt and in EVR Vista mode a get full acceleration but when i use EVR custom i don't get any, i don't think that custom EVR renderer is EVR at all, or at least it doesn't work with powerdvd decoder.
Most of the people here don't even know when DXVA 2.0 is on or off when they are playing x264 because they have good cpu's and the difference is minimal. My CPU when i am not using 8600 acceleration i get 100% so i really know when i am not getting any HA.

In EVR custom only the "presenter part" is replaced (i.e. the display on screen). I don't understand yet why DXVA is not working with custom EVR :(

To clear things i am saying DXVA 2.0 is not working, i am sure others in here can confirm this as well. Maybe instead of changing EVR the best thing to do is change the subtitle engine to work with EVR VISTA i am sure this can be done since EVR can have multiple inputs as VMR9 did.

After a little searching i found that BSplayer has support for an EVR subtitle module(on the changelog of 2.20) so it should be possible to include support for subtitles in EVR as they did.
Has anyone tested BSplayer to see if the module works correctly?

foxyshadis
14th June 2007, 07:49
I don't think VSFilter is designed to work with multiple input at all (transparent rendering and all that, the way BSPlayer and MPC internal do it), it requires a video input and a video+subs output. It'd be a good redesign, because it's probably never going to work with DXVA otherwise.

I tried 1.0.8.4 with VMR renderless, VMR 9 mixing, Bicubic A=60 etc etc, and the cpu usage was at least half as that of 1.0.8.3 with the same settings, so whatever you did worked for that! however, with 1.0.8.4, in EVR custom mode, the far right of the picture is a flashy colour vertical bar.

And no, all this was with Direct3d off, so the CPU usage thing was interesting?...

burfadel as casimir666 said you got the less cpu usage because shader resize was not working or something, we are trying to test the custom EVR mode to work with 8500/8600 dxva 2.0 because it is not currently working.
Casimiri666 i think that as long as you are working with dx9 calls for the renderer we are not going to get results, since dxva 2.0 works only on dx10(At least in vista) i don't know if the same happens in XP as well, because nvidia said it will get it working there as well somehow.

Are you sure DXVA2 use DX10? Microsoft documentation only talk of DX9 surface, and the IDirect3DDeviceManager9 interface is supposed to manage DXVA2 :

I also got flashy vertical bar with 1.8.0.4 (custom presenter) --- when I play DVD (thru windvd 8's codec) with "normal size" and "touch window from inside". So with or without resizing, there is the vertical bar.

I don't get flashy vertical bar when I play divx files through ffdshow (and using ffdshow's resize to the resolution of my monitor).

Thx for making it work with differentiating the audio only files.

Just thought of something, it there by any chance a problem with nvidia drivers and directx9 dxva2.0??? maybe they need an MFT implementation to work with dxva 2.0 in vista? isn't that the problem they are trying to fix in xp as well, getting directx9 dxva?
Maybe if the EVR renderer in vista uses MFT and EVR custom presenter of MPC uses DX9 the problem is only in nvidia drivers not supporting dx9 accel yet, and maybe in vista they won't at all.

Is anyone using Forceware 160.03 for Xp&Xp x64, and Forceware 160.04 for Vista/Vista x64. I'm using 160.03 on x64 and it runs flawlessly (from what I can tell anyway).

Casimir - I don't have time currently to test the 2d/3d surfaces properly, but it may be because I am running the forceware 160.03. Would the changes in 1.8.0.4 with that driver helped do you think?

With 160.xx etc everything from Geforce FX is natively covered (from what I can see) without the need for INF mods. You'll probably find that every drive since the Fx, 6 series, 7 series and 8 series will work backward compatible, its just that nvidia doesn't guarantee them per se.

Yes i use DXVA2CreateDirect3DDeviceManager9, and last release 1.0.8.3 allocate DX surfaces thu this interface (previous versions didn't allocate this way).

EVR cutom is the normal EVR object, the only difference is a call to IMFVideoRenderer::InitializeRenderer to tell him "use my custom presenter" ;)

Hmm i just found a way by incident to show the info display in vmr9 renderless with Cyberlinks AVC decoder it get's shown with .mkv for example when subtitles start to get displayed funny thing but dunno if it's maybe changeing the complete rendering on the fly (is this possible ?) as then jitter starts to occour at the same time, could you check that ?

Still for me the fastest mode with VMR9 Renderless support is with Direct3D Fullscreen,VMR9 mixer mode (to get DXVA, PureVideo working) on 2D surfaces (3d surfaces drop frames) not 1 droped frame (7600GS,WinXP,Forceware 94.24) for Realtime (with Nvidias Motion adaptive deinterlacer as good as Yadif quality wise) 1080i->1080p 60 fps that's amazing for VMR9 Renderless before i was able to get such a smooth playback only with VMR9 Windowed, again great work keep on researching :) and thx for the OSD enhancements, now only a MPC (not the whole system counter) CPU utilization OSD entry is missing :D

PS: Could you maybe add this Fix as an extra option http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=15184 (read the whole post for the workaround fix) for Nvidias "Quarter Picture Problem" if Deinterlacing takes place for Hybrid streams it allways changes the size of the rendererd Deinterlaced frame.
Progressive Frames = Progressive Normal size,
Interlaced Frames = Progressive Quarter size
very anoying you can enable Letterbox mode or Anamorphic Raw in the NVidia PureVideo Mpeg-2 Decoder to avoid this also, but then the Interlaced frames stay Interlaced :P (better then the Size switching every now and then, but also not very watchable over time)

@andrew_seul

I don't think that a x64 build exists.

Remember with an x64 version you'd need an x64 version of ffdshow (or whatever you use). I think the most stupid thing Microsoft could have done is make a 32 bit Vista, most things will be 32 bit until they're required to be 64 bit. The 32 bit software still being made would still work, and it makes the transition quicker, easier, and smoother.

The extra upkeep of both 32 and 64 bit Vista, as well as development time etc., they haven't really gained anything by bringing out two versions except maybe for a label of poor judgement.

The reason why I am saying that is if vista were just in a 64 bit version, there would be a lot more 64 bit programmes out there. Despite what some people claim, a 64 bit programme, as long as its properly written, is considerably faster than its 32 bit counterpart (don't try and claim a 40 percent speed increase for example isn't considerable), so encoding & decoding would be faster.

I believe there are 64 bits builds of MPC & ffdshow out there, but they're out of date.

I have a pretty odd problem, in that it happens in multiple scenarios.

This graph, works fine on it's own, but not in MPC:
http://blahtemppics2.googlepages.com/Graph3.png
(VTS is the VTS reader from MPC, MPEG splitter is the MPEG splitter from MPC, FFDshow is set to output YUY2, DVobSub is set to output YUY2.)

This does not work for me in MPC. It works if I use the an alternate MPEG2 decoder, and do not use FFDshow. It also works if I use a different renderer. It also works if I don't use DVobSub.

So I'm not sure what the problem is. The fact that it works in GraphEdit and not in MPC leads me to believe it's a MPC issue.

DVobSub version is 2.23 (because I like some options in it ;_; )

Thanks for your time.

Hello!

I also think some work can be done to improve MPC's graph building (if that is the right term).

My issue #1:
A current issue I have is not being able to watch TV in MPC using the dcdvbsource filter. MPC 1.0.8.0 just says "Cannot render the file" in its status bar. I think the issue is related to the fact that dcdvbsource builds its own filter chain, depending on what the channel is broadcasting.

This is the graph:

Dcdvbsource can be found here: http://www.dsp-worx.de/index.php?n=11

The developer of this filter has said "The Problem is, that MPC needs to be stopped before releasing the Filtergraph." The relevant forum discussion is here: http://forum.dsp-worx.de/viewtopic.php?t=262

The dev is currently working on a new version that needs to change filters depending on whether your selected channel is broadcasting in mpeg2 or h264.

My issue #2:
MPC 1.0.8.0 refuses to load files that are currently locked for writing (but ok to read from). It reports the error (in the status bar) "File not found".

This happens when I want to watch media that I am currently recording (time-shifted playback). I'm using Webscheduler to record the stream. It should be possible to open such files. At the moment I must use another player to view these files.

My issue #3:
MPC 1.0.8.0 will not select the source filter correctly in some instances - it will use other filters, or in the past I remember sometimes it would refuse to play the file at all. This may be related to Clammerz problem.

For example, now I have graphedit and zoomplayer using TSFileSource as the source filter for transport streams, however MPC insists on using Haali media splitter (which has a lower priority). Even if I set TSFileSource as prefer in MPC external filter dialog, it still uses Haali. To install TSFileSource you do the usual regsvr32 as well as run a .reg file to add extensions to the registry-
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.ts]
"Source Filter"="{4F8BF30C-3BEB-43A3-8BF2-10096FD28CF2}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.tp]
"Source Filter"="{4F8BF30C-3BEB-43A3-8BF2-10096FD28CF2}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.tsbuffer]
"Source Filter"="{4F8BF30C-3BEB-43A3-8BF2-10096FD28CF2}"

Not sure if this helps, what other information can I provide to help get this fixed?

Anyways, MPC is my favourite player and I don't want to have to use zoomplayer :) Also, not watching TV through other bloated software, and getting to choose your filters rocks..

Anyways, first post for me, a long time silent reader of doom9! Thanks for the damn fine work from everyone here!

hello Casimir,

I was extremely happy when I saw this topic.. your efforts are great and I love MPC in this new form.

just one question to you whether you might be able to make this possible:
-nowadays there are some WMV files with 2 audio streams - so far the only DirectShow based player allowing me to switch those streams is Windows Media Player.

Do you think it is possible to include this feature. Thanks,

Hello Casimi and others..

I found some more information that may shed some light upon Clammerz and my problems.

Here is a post with some info:

Key points
- problem seems related to using MS mpeg2 demuxer
- "enable seeking with push sources that use the MS Demux."?

Sound is muted when playing back real media files, when using the new realplayer 11beta and this media player classic, the realaudio filter is loaded but no sound is heard.
