WMP12 uses Media Foundation filters instead of DirectShow filters so you can't compare that.

Why can't you be satisfied with this solution, Mercury_22? Or your own solution to open a new file? I would not risk loosing the good changes in the playlist just because you and your 3 friends can't do this simple thing...
It's not simple if it takes half the developers a week to figure it out.
This "mysterious" change in functionality wasn't planned, and is therefore simply a minor regression. The program should continue to work as it did after improving it.

WMP12 uses Media Foundation filters instead of DirectShow filters so you can't compare that.No it doesn't. It uses a DirectShow graph (+filters). Like I said, you can see the playback graph yourself using DirectShowSpy.
Btw, Media Foundation doesn't have a DVD Navigator filter.

I wanted to try DirectShowSpy but it seems it requires x64 proppage.dll which is not available on Win 7 but available in the platform SDK which I don't want to install only because of this dll.
I configured MPC-HC to use the MS decoder and tried EVR and EVR-CP and there is no highlighting on DVD menus so it's not usable with TV and remote control. Since WMP12 uses the same filters I wonder why it's working in WMP12 but not in MPC-HC.

IIRC ffmpeg won't work either. MPC-HC decoder would work but using another player it's a additional software that has to be installed where the MS decoder is part of the OS. In my player it don't work either but when WMP12 can do it then it should be possible with other players too, it just won't work out of the box or same as with other decoders and has to be activated somehow.
Here is the 32bits proppage.dll

Hi all,
This is my first post and I would like to say hello to everybody on this forum. Im sorry to post my problem here, but after researching the forums, I need advice.
I use MPC-HC latest build 1809 with DXVA, EVR sync ( Video to Display ), EVR buffers 4, D3D fullscreen mode. I play only high bitrate videos with HD audio ( 25GB+ ).
Problem:
Playback runs without tearing, ext. subtitles are loading fine ( have to reload them everytime in MPC-HC ), no judder, jerking or any other artefacts there. The video is playing its first minute and I skip to any other minute of the movie - the video gets delay and is out of sync to audio. Better said, audio is running in a front of the video. I have experienced this also during the movie - the video gets slowlier processed and the lipsync issue was there also if I watched the film from the beginning to end. So at some point, the A/V sync issues were noticable. CPU Utilization is 10-15%.
I experience this not by every video file suspicious are the ones with with HD audio streams and higher video bitrates. Can somebody tell me if this effect is caused by my ultra mini HTPC gear or it could be a codecs/mpc hc settings task?
To resume, this is what I see if I click on "filters" in MPC HC:
SyncClock filter
Default directsound device
Sync Renderer
Audio switcher
MPC video decoder
FFD show audio
File path
My setup:
Notebook DELL Latitude E6400 with P9700 2.8Ghz, 256SSD PM800 Samsung, 4gb, win7 32bit, Nvidia NVS160m ( only 8 stream processors, but full DXVA support with VC-1, H.264,mpeg-2 )
Creative USB X-fi 5.1 Soundcard
MPC-HC with DXVA internal decoders for VC-1/H.264, for MPEG2 I have external Cyberlink dll, D3D Fullscreen mode with EVR-sync, Sync video to display
Reclock, FFDshow audio,
SONY Bravia EX500 40" via HDMI 1080/24p
Many thanks,:thanks:
Plutotype
PS: I tried XMBC with its native filters without DXVA, CPU utilization was 60%, but the A/V issues were not there.

@Plutotype:
Does it happen if you you Windows 7's built-in H.264/VC1/MPEG-2 DXVA decoder?
Do you bitstream the audio (via HDMI) or do you decode it inside ffdshow?
Do the Sync issues happen if you use the regular EVR renderer? (not Custom or Sync!)

Thanks Superb,
I use MPC video internal DXVA decoders for VC-1/H.264, for MPEG-2 I have Cyberlink 9 dll.
Audio is being decoded inside of ffdshow as I dont have external hw receiver.
Unfortunately I havent tried to put classic EVR renderer into action, because I got some video artefacts with it. But I can give it a try.

You shouldn't get video artifacts w/ regular EVR. If you do, it might point to another problem.
Btw, I suggest you try the Microsoft decoder as well to see if the MPCVideoDec is the cause (simply unchecking it from "Internal Filters" should make the Microsoft one load).
Also, do you use the latest ffdshow available? (check out www.xvidvideo.ru for the latest builds)

I have a WinXP XBMC system which uses MPC-HC to play BD rips. My process is as follows:
1) Rip BluRay with AnyDVD HD
2) Use Clown_BD to pull together a *.ts mux that includes the forced subtitles and english subtitles (I have the forced subtitles option selected).
3) Copy over the resulting .ts file to my movie directory tree.
The problem is that I haven't been able to figure out how to get MPC to use the internal subtitles?
If convert the extracted .sub files to <movie name>.srt then I can navigate the menu to select this subtitle. I can even get this to work externally with idx/sub converted files. The problem with both of these paths though is that MPC doesn't automatically start using these external files. I have to manually select them from the context menu, even though I have the auto-load subtitles selected.
So I would like to understand how to get the internal .sub muxed subtexts working. If we can't get that working then how to get the player to automatically use the external subtext files.
Thanks in advance

Hi Superb,
just setup classic EVR with the Microsoft DTV-DVD video decoder, surprised by the overall CPU utilization ( looks like its dxva compatible ), but EVR does not load external subtitles and the the audio delay issue is still present ( had also issues with VC-1 videos ).
Again I have used XBMC and the A/V sync issue issue is not there, so there must be something wrong with the codecs and settings in MPC-HC or I dont know.
To recapitulate, the issue is that the video is going out of sync with audio ( maybe vice versa ). Some video files are ok, some look at first ok, but during playback go out of sync. When I skip another point in the video, I get A/V unsynchro...
Im a quite beginner, so maybe anybody will see something in the attachments of my settings.
Thanks to anybody for advice

Try to reload the subtitles everytime. The MPC-HC is not programmed to load the external subtitles prior to the muxed ones.
If you have MKV with embedded subtitles, they will load first. You have to select the external ones manually and the also reload them.
You can assign keys to this functions too.
Maybe this helps.

I thought that the .ts file had the .sup files muxed in. I did find this guide (http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/03/31/mkv-mania-clown_bd-mkvmerge/) which seems to work out the problem. It adds two steps to my process but I just tested it with Avatar and it worked.

A much needed subtitle related feature would be to add "ext" at the Subtitle Load order, that would represent whatever external subtitle file with the same name as the video. There is currently no way to override the subtiles bundled in mkv with an external one at startup, not even by using /sub command line.
EDIT2:
Just a quick test, "x.mkv" with bundled subtitles, "x.srt" external subtitle. Load order: added "x" first. Result: x is loaded! So an "ext" alias that will point internally to the file name would work. This was for those that have eyes to see. It's really a no-brainier to adapt this workaround for all your files:
Before I begin: The "Subtitle load order" function. Found in Options-> Playback-> Subtitle load order.
That input box can be populated with language codes from the ISO 639-2 standards i.e. the 3-letter ones. (Most of the languages can be used also with the 2-letter 639-1 standard, but, for example, Spanish does not work).
- If your native language is Spanish, your second language is Italian and your third language is English, your input should look like: spa ita eng
You can explicitly set the language of the external subtitle for other players by adding a suffix to the end of the name with the language code (ex: ElephantsDream-DivXPlusHD [Spa].srt). Because I think of those language codes as prefixes leaded me to this workaround:
Choose a prefix. Add it as the first item to the "Subtitle load order" input box. From now on, rename your video file(s) so that it begins with the prefix followed by the original name. Rename the subtitle file(s) to match the video file(s). That's all!
prefix=a word, letter, or number placed before another
Prefix restrictions:
- cannot contain the Space character because it's a delimiter
- must not overlap with an existing language code
- the normal OS filename restrictions: "* . " / \ [ ] : ; | = ,"
- OS allowed but not recommended : "^ ' + * ! % & @ # - ~"
Adding a 3-letter prefix like "ext" in front of all your video files will not look too nice, but the good thing is that you don't have to. You can get away with only one character. It's better to stay away from letters (s will overlap with Spanish) and numbers. I find "_" the safest to use, but "`" looks less intrusive.
Before:
ElephantsDream-DivXPlusHD.mkv
ElephantsDream-DivXPlusHD.srt
After:
_ElephantsDream-DivXPlusHD.mkv
_ElephantsDream-DivXPlusHD.srt
Subtitle load order:
_ eng fre ita spa
Note:
One situation I found this not working is if your filename contains "." [And it shouldn't, in Windows the dot should be used only to separate the file extension from the file name]. You probably have used the dot instead of space. You should really use the underscore ("_") for that if you really need to replace the space.

Not sure if I understand you correctly. If there is subtitles in mkv AND as separate file, you want to make separate ones to be loaded first? If so, MPC-HC internally should know the difference between internal and external subs so it should be possible just add checkbox "load external subs first". No need to rename anything and whatever needs such renaming is not good.
As for the dot ".", don't know why you saying it shouldn't be used, but it is used for giwing names to external subs. For example currently with this 2 files:
somemovie.mkv
somemovie.wow.srt
subtitles should be autoloaded and named "wow" in mpc-hc menu.

I had "Close after playback" functionality working by means of a batch file editing registry almost 6 months before it was added in MPC-HC. This will not take that long, I hope :)
About your first argument, most of the times you have to rename your subtitle file to match the video, so it's really not a big deal to rename both files. About your second argument, the dot should not be used, because it's a best-practices in file-naming, at least on Windows OS. There should be a single dot in a filename, the one that separates the name from the extension. Same goes for the other special or not recommended characters, it's best to prevent things like data loss because of some batch files or other utilities that process your files.

Renaming is a big deal. It looks bad.
And dot is used for ages and there was no problems with it. Anyway it is used for giving names to external subtitles so nothing can be changed about it.

Hello, having resolved the misinformation i had about MPC-HT's flac decoder (see my previous post :rolleyes: ), i've ran into something i dont know how to solve;
Before i explain, i have to note that i have an Asus Xonar HDAV Slim. For people that dont know, it's a sound-card that you loop between your video-card and your receiver. It takes in the video, adds HD-grade audio, and outyputs a full HDMI1.3 signal with HDCP and PAP. So you get to stream DTS-MA, TrueHD or PCM up to 192/24 and max 7.1 channels.
The problem i have lies in the way the audiocard manifests itself in Windows (i currently use 7-64, but it's the same in XP-32 ). The card is seen as 2 different cards; 1 called "Speakers". I handles all decoded PCM streams, up to 7.1 (8 channels). The second one is the S/PDIF streaming device.
I have to use this one when i play multi-channel FLAC's. MPC decodes, and and I have to set the audio renderer to Asus HDAV: Speakers (direct sound or not doesnt matter).
When I want to play a video with, say, DTS. I have to choose a different renderer. It is called "ASUS HDAV: S/PDIF Streaming".
The problem lies ofcourse in the fact that i constantly have to switch audio-renderers. When i inadvertantly use "S/PDIF" with my multi-channel FLAC's, i only get 2 channels PCM (max limitation of all regular S/pdif). Worse is if i use "Speakers" with a DTS-track. Streaming undecoded DTS provides a nice crackling and popping noise, which cannot be very good for my speakers (or my receiver for that matter).
The question is: Can i set specific renderers with specific decoders ? Or can that be made as a feature ?
For instance I imagine a roll-down menu in de DTS/AC3 decoder module. It has all the renderers in it, and an option "Use deafult" which is the way it works now (render set in otions -> output). There i can choose to use the s/pdif output renderer. And then the same idea for other audio-decoders built in into MPC.
Or something wich might be better to implement: In the audio-switcher menu, an option to differentiate in decoded or streamed audio to specific renderers. Decoded: Use renderer ......., Streamed: Use renderer ...........
I dont know if my post is clear, or if more peaople could see the benefit of this system, or if it's even possible. But i'd like a feature like this, and people with more then one audio-card could also benefit :)
