View Full Version : Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) - DXVA!

@KyleK
Install the stand alone filters in system32 folder but just "mpcvideodec.ax" from rev 629 (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/view/59/2/) and register it then use the program again to see the results, something like this (http://pwp.netcabo.pt/kado/dxva_mpc_sf_h.jpg). Right click near the red dxva and use the apropriate renderer, dxva1=vmr9/7 and dxva2=evr.
I registered the MPCVideoDec.ax as suggested using "regsvr32 MPCVideoDec.ax", which was confirmed as Success. Unfortunately, DXVAChecker doesn't seem to "see" that filter at all. Nothing happens when dragging a video file to the application.
I then disabled all internal transform filters in MPC-HC, to see if it loads the external filter, but no such luck. When looking at the "External filters" list and hitting "Add Filter...", the external decoder is not listed either.
Playing a H.264 video, MPC falls back to the internal filter (even though it should be disabled), and the problem mentioned earlier is present again.
I'm at a loss. I used to register filters this way all the time. I have no idea why Windows wouldn't properly register the external decoder.

@developers.
Thanks for fixing that screenshot-taking bug with EVR renderer. Now I can avoid the chroma upsampling bug in EVR custom presenter.

@clsid:
regarding the selection between DXVA or internal FFmpeg, I discovered that it works OK with rev604, but not on the newer revisions where you attempted to seperate the functionality. I guess some work is needed to separate the DXVA completely from the FFmpeg decoder.
I can't reproduce it, so I can't fix it.

Some question here. Did mplayerc has post processing feature?

No, it does not have postprocessing (not counting the shader functionality).

there was a problem of this sort a while ago:

I think that standalone codecs aren't registered correctly. I registered both mpegsplitter.ax and mpcvideodec.ax (the ones someone compiled awhile ago) with dsfmgr, then tried to play .m2ts files and both WMP11 and VMC gave error that I don't have codecs to play this file.
I then unregistered both codecs and then registered v 1.1.0.0 codecs from sourceforge, then replaced those .ax files with the new versions which didn't work before, after that I was able to play all .m2ts files.
you could try this, register the one from soundfourge, and then overwrite it. and check the codecs tab if H264 is checked.

Same here, video corruption on naruto by dattebayo remuxed to mkv. Previously, it will run fine after remux.
Does this corruption happen in every file? I tried a few files today with rev638 and did not notice anything.

From my experience, Cyberlink is ati-friendly and arcsoft is nvidia-friendly applications; so i have both of them.
And what we expect as nvidia owners is a player which is DXVA compliant and an ati/nvidia-friendly mpc-hc.
We can wait one more week by pleasure of course :)

MPC HC is now far from a MPC bugfix version.
Don't you think MPC HC should have its own forum instead of this thread ? I think it would be easier for developers and users, with a development section for testers, and a "general help" section for others...

Hi, found a h.264 trailer that has block-artifacts during several scenes with DXVA: http://trailers.nerodigital.com/Disney/TheGreatestGame_HD_AVC.mp4
Tried to cut down the movie with avidemux to post it here, but the resulting file wouldn't play at all with mpchc (worked with VLC).
I can observe block-artifacts at around 18 seconds of playtime.
These were present with every mpcHC version i tested (first "official" until v. 643)
After 1.1.631 every video plays corrupt (as others here reported already)
Got an Nvidia 8800GT Video Card on WINXP, DXVA works fine here on most files.

The filter is compatible, all DirectShow filters are. Your problem is caused by something else. Media Center often just refuses to play files because they have an 'unknown' file extension. There are registry tweaks to make Media Center recognize those extensions.

Does EVR custom work with PowerDVD decoder ?
Looking in release history, it should be fixed in 604, but I have a black window, and statistics show only 1 frame drawn.

Can anybody tell me how to fix the washed out blacks on VMR9 output with MPC? The grayish blacks with VMR9 keep me from using it fulltime.
I usually would fix this by using Haali Renderer, but that renderer has some residual desktop at the top of the screen as well, which is just as much of an annoyance.
Now that I mention it, if somebody could help me get both:
1) True blacks during playback
2) No residual desktop at the top of the screen
with either renderer, that would be much appreciated.

For problem no.1, use the 16-235 --> 0-255 pixel shader if you use nVidia cards or apply "UseBT601CSC=1" registry fix with the utility at http://exdeus.home.comcast.net/ati-hd2x00/ if you use ATI.
For problem no.2, you probably can get better result if you ask at the HR thread. I don't use HR because of the ghost lines with ATI HD cards.

I am still baffled why this serious problem with HD playback (affecting several renderers in different ways) is simply being ignored. At the very least it should be added to the bug list and the web site should be updated to instruct people which renderers actually work. I am not trying to spam this thread on this topic but I really do not understand why no one will reply either to acknowledge the problem or to challenge it.

I looked at that page too and the problem is that I have only an LCD display, not a CRT display. Having an LCD display brings up a simpler Nvidia control panel without those color/brightness/contrast/etc settings.

Can get output on overlay or vmr7/vmr9 without dxva, but on high bit rate h264 drops frames (> 23 Mbps or thereabouts)
ok, so here is the issue.
I'm trying to get dxva to work, with MPC HC. Disabled other codecs, when I look at filters it is the internal ones getting used.
I can get it to output as I mentioned if dxva is off.
If I switch dxva on and play a mkv, I check the vid. filter and see that dxva is switched on, and it has some message about the setting (not the dxva not used message), but I get no video output or sound. I am testing with a moderate bitrate mkv (it would play fine, both vid and audio, with no dxva).
So I'm pretty sure hardware accel. is trying to be used here.
I've tried with overlay and vmr9 renderless. In fact all of them, just to see, but of course with vmr7 dxva says not being used (and MPC HC crashes).
Currently using Catalyst 8.5, and whatever driver came with 8.5 after a downgrade from 8.6. Did the uninstall of 8.6 first.
MPC HC I have tried the latest stable build, .604, I think, and tried a few other MPC HC builds as well, 582, 613, 643 (no dxva in that anyway)
This is in windowed or full screen, makes no difference. The tearing fix is turned off.
I also tried this mkv using powerdvd 7.3 ultra with dxva on, still no video or audio. So may not be an MPC HC issue?
Also tried the cyberlink codec and haali media splitter in MPC HC. Will work if dxva is off, but still no sound or audio if turned on.
Can anyone give me other suggestions on what to try?
Thanks
btw, not that you'll care, but I posted this on AVS after searching there also, just in case you see the post there.

23Mbps bitrate? That's high enough to cause high CPU usage even with DXVA on.
If I switch dxva on and play a mkv, I check the vid. filter and see that dxva is switched on, and it has some message about the setting (not the dxva not used message), but I get no video output or sound.
What is the message anyway? And did the filter window says DXVA is being used?
Go download this (http://rapidshare.com/files/113536801/Suzumiya_Haruhi_no_Yuuutsu_-_C4_-_Special_Ending_-__Hitsuji__e569a2b7_.mkv.html) test file and see if you can have DXVA with it.

When you open the properties window
DXVA is checked but it says
DXVA Mode "Not using DXVA"
This is only with vmr7. I expected something like that since dxva is only supported with vmr9 and overlay.
That is the same message I get with mkv's that have non-compliant encodes (>3 b-frames will do it for example), but on the stream I am testing with, which I think is compliant, if I use vmr9 the properties window says
DXVA Mode H.264 bitstream decoder, no FGT
but I get no sound or video.
It will take more than another 1/2 hr. to download the test file.

Here's a question... I'm trying to play Planet Earth HD DVD, which is a WVC1-encoded video.
MPC says that the video is encoded at 29.97FPS, but I know it's 24p... I want to output true 24p, since my TV accepts this as an input.
Now, when I try to get it working, MPC HC uses ffdshow's built-in decoder to decode... but it's juddery, and not because of frame-rate. There are certain scenes where I know frames are being dropped. If I block ffdshow, it uses WMVideo Decoder... which doesn't seem to output 24fps.
The question is, who has gotten true 24fps display working for WVC1 video using MPC HC? What codecs? What renderers?
Slaman, for the time being i suggest Arcsoft video decoder as external filter.
Uncheck VC1 and h264 options under internal filters and select arcsoft as preferred under external filters.

I appreciate your translation service. you are a good man fo doing so. however.... maybe you can move your bickering from the doom9.org forums, to email. to be honest. i dont give a Fuc* about chinese translations nor (i am assuming on the whole) do most people here. translations are such a minute part of MPC-HC, that your one sided discussion doesn't warrant thread pollution.
im not moderator or anything, but possibly you can take suggestions from readers whom don't want junk filling the MPC-HC thread, stealing the light from Casmir666 et all code contributors to MPC-HC. just an opinion.

Hi,
just tried the MpegSplitter with some m2ts material...
what is the connection format in case of LPCM? And which "decoder" can handle it or remove certain header? I don't really know what has to be done to prepare LPCM for the audio renderer...
I only managed to get a graph with AC3Filter in between the MpegSplitter and the audio renderer. But all I could hear was some weird noise.
Is there a MPC filter that can handle it?

Did not connect to a HDTV? Well I have a projector (which I haven't tried), and my monitor, which is a samsung syncmaster 245b. DVI connection with hdcp (although that shouldn't be coming into play here).
