I have done nothing about this. Maybe it was inside one Clsid patches
Sorry guys, my bad: I was using clsid's version ... :)
I have tried out the old releases of MPCHC, and this fix was added in v1.0.5.0 - 05/05/2007
I already have such idea : define 2 couples of prefered audio / subtitle, and autoselect primary or secondary couple automaticly. It's on my todo list, but can't tell you when it will be done
For me 1 is already good, but if it's more then it's just better ... :) (but in this case you must let the user to specify them via textbox)

It should work like this (no matter how many):
1. at first start (when this setting is missing in the registry) if a file which has subs exists, it will create the key eg. "sublang" with the first tag value; or just write any tag value at first run eg. "EN" (initial value)
2. if a file with subs are opened then it compare this value with the list of tags
3. only writes the value of sublang, if the user has selected a sub !
4. if there are no matching tags in the list, it doesn't write anything to the registry, but it reverts to the alphabetically first sub

I wish their was a way to get DXVA working with mkv files.. since it has to use Haali Splitter DXVA does not work on them files.. works great on mp4 files themselves but not mkv.

It has nothing to do with mkv !

Its all about (x)h264 Settings

Level 4.1 /5 refFrames encodes are worikng with DXVA. even in mkv!!

I would like to post a feature request:

"When DXVA check failes default to software driver"

Can you make it so my preferred software decoder takes over as the built in software decoder is too slow for my pc.

What i want to achieve is:

Open x264 video, mpc tried to DXVA but the file isn't compatible so it defaults to software mode, i have coreavc as prefered decoder so mpc passes the signal over to coreavc

its easy, the same system you already use to disable DXVA for non-compatible files (obviously this would not work for files that crash the decoder but that's a problem we cannot do anything about at the moment), i'm talking about things like to many ref frames

Yes but unfortunately it's not 100% reliable

tetsuo55

better something than nothing right? any file that passes your current checks and still crashes the dxva decoder should be re-encoded

The only reason broken files even exist is that nobody used to care about hardware compatibility.

any new encode done now with the latest svn updates for everything and the right settings will (almost) always result in a compatible file.

A nice workaround for getting those exceptions working is simply disabled the built in avc decoder, i know its a pain to go back and forth, but i think it will happen to many files

EDIT: besides the filter already works this way, when dxva incompatibility is detected it defaults to software mode, what i'm asking for is to be able to define which software decoder i want to use instead of using the built in one.

Hey, great job on those new test builds.

I have a suggestion for 2 features that would be very useful to me (and probably others too). sorry if it has been discussed before.

1. adding an option to force the output of the internal h264 codec to RGB32 (in order to fix color issues/wrong levels which causes overbright images, etc)
2. make the hardware acceleration work with EVR.

is it possible to add those features?
Thanks in Advance.

It works fine with all of my own x264 1080p encodes.

Older encodes with unrestricted Level are working autom without DXVA in MPC Video Decoder without any Errors

Newer encodes with Level 4.1 /5 Ref Frames are running with active DXVA

So the Detection is working fine here

I can't get any of my x264 encodes to work with DXVA enabled. I have a Q2D and 8800gt. The encodes were done using MeGUI with HQ-Slow video profile.

Change the Level to 4.1 and use 5 Ref Frames for 1080p

you're better off doing the opposite.

nvidia/ati cards will convert 709 to 601 for HD(for ATI only if y>719 and using YUY2/YV12 only)

Any chance of internal MPEG2 support coming to
the 64-Bit version in the future ?

That would be a real treat for all the Vista Business
users out there

ADude

I installed this over the previous stable version of MPC-HC.

I have CoreAVC preferred and the new version left that as the operating H264 decoder.

I tried an HD VC-1 file and the internal decoder worked fine. The picture quality looked equivalent to WM decoder (from memory). I checked and both cores were in use. Casimir - can you talk about the multi-core support in the new internal decoders ? (While the DXVA support is more unique, I think that the multi-core support will actually be used more.)

I also noticed that the new internal decoder also supports Xvid and other MPEG4 formats, which got lost amongst the hoopla over H264 and VC-1.

A second question for Casimir - during playback, the internal decoder options dialog says:

DXVA Mode

and then next to it in faint grey:

Not Using DXVA

Is that a reliable real-time indication that the MPC internal decoder has analyzed the graphics card capabilities and found a lack of DXVA support ? (The Enable DXVA is checked by default)

No ffdshow allowed for Dxva sorry (read explanation on my website)

@MasterNobody
Yes i have forgot to put VSFilter :o

@raynor
Could be added for software mode yes :-)

@ADude
In software mode decoding use ffmpeg codec, so it's based on ffmpeg multithreading (default is as much threads as CPU core).
About DXVA mpc didn't "analyse" machine, he only sugest "Hey Video Renderer, come on I support DXVA if you want". After than, the renderer accept or not the proposition of the video decoder (and if third part filter didn't interfere with the negociation).
Since mpc didn't have "pre cabled" graph building, that's the reason it will not works if some conditions are broken.

The checkbox only indicate if filter propose DXVA to the decoder, the grayed label show the real Dxva status.

Hey guys, I was wondering what exact purpose has the filter called "subtitlesource.ax" ?

Is it possible to use it to achieve DXVA + subtitles in Graphedit?

(for exemple render a MKV with h264 stream in DXVA while adding subtitles on top of it?)

I tried and loaded "MPC SubtitleSource" (S_TXT/UTF8)" in graphedit which prompted me to specify the subtitle file.

After this, I connect Cyberlink h264 decoder to pin1 of VMR9 renderer and try to connect the MPC-SubtitleSource to pin2, so that DXVA is achieved with external subtitles, but connection to VMR9 pin2 is refused.

Am I missing a filter?
Thanks for any help.

Remember that you have to use the built in decoder and that some encodes are not dvxa possible due to hardware not supporting some h264 "levels".

Would anyone be able to help with my problem. I've got winXP with Ati2400pro. Using MPC-HC dxva on works just fine. Only problem i get is when watching 720p mkv material with embedded subs.

Subtitles work just fine with acceleration using VMR9 renderless, but there's maybe about height of 10-20 pixels part in the bottom of the image which is kinda distorted or incorrectly decoded. It looks like it happens only when file is exactly 720p mkv with embedded subs. 1080p with embedded or 720p with external subs work just flawlessly.

An example:

I have a problem with mpc/mpchc on win xp sp2, latest directx, all renderers. After opening a video file (no matter which container or encoder is used), when I use close (CTRL+C), the window returns to initial size but the movie keeps playing. If I open another movie, they both play in the same mpc window, with the first one visible - like an overlay between the 2 movies. Do you have any suggestion on a possible cause?
Thank you

Hi, I'm using Vista x64 with an 8600 M GT, EVR custom preset, uninstalled ffdshow, and I'm trying to play an h264 mkv file with DXVA. When I look at the MPC video decoder properties, it says H.264 bitstream decoder, no FGT. However, the video doesn't play at all. The time elapsed stays at 0:00 and the screen is just black. I tried another h264 mkv file and this one had sound and subtitles but a black screen for video. This one said it wasn't using DXVA. Also, with all my xvid files I tried playing again there's audio and subtitles but black screen video. I tried using the 32 bit version and all the videos that played with a black screen worked properly, however the ones that indicated that they were using DXVA and didn't play at all still didn't play. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit version of the MPC video decoder filter? Also, thanks for all your hard work on MPC HC! Really enjoying it so far!

x64 version isn't working for me as soon as DXVA is turned off.

Also, will there be a way to turn off DXVA for the standalone filter? I ask because as mentioned earlier, I do have major blockyness with some older encodes that are apparently non-compliant. Since I no longer have the original MPEG2 capture source, I can't reencode. I do have a fast enough CPU for decoding in software, I just would like to use a filter for decoding other than ffdshow, since ffdshow crashes the Windows Media Center Receiver Service.

@casimir: your latest version works really well over here in DXVA mode for a bunch of anime fansubs I have watched. Video card is 2400XT, Catalyst 8.3 and Vista 32bit SP1. There's a little annoyance though, when using EVR Custom for DXVA2 to work, softsub appears faster than the movie due to EVR buffering. Can you add an auto subtitle delay feature or add an option to disable EVR buffering? Or is there any other way around it?

However, anamorphic MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video streams encoded with aspect ratio signalling and muxed within the .MP4, .MPG and .VOB containers are displayed correctly.

File: mkv file. Containing 720p (1280x528) x264 video and AC3-5.1-640kbit audio.

Could nVidia users try it and tell me it's working or not ?
The link you posted is not working... here's a working one:

Btw, I should probably mention that I'm willing to do any testing/debugging of this problem. I can post pin info, check 32vs64 bits, install/uninstall different sets of display drivers, check w/ graphedit... Whatever you want/need me to do... just write it here and I'll try it. I'm also willing to run any "test"/"debug output"/"verbose output" builds if you need me to.

Tested, doesn't work as well.

Although I did find out something new (that happens on both 3D and 2D surrfaces):
- If I first open up mplayerc.exe and then drag a video file into the window, then the video is stuck on the 0 frame and I see a black screen.
- Now (the new thing), if I drop a video file on TOP of the mplayer.exe icon (same as launching "mplayer.exe 10,000B.C.Teaser.mp4", isn't it?), I can see the first frame (screenshot 1 (http://i27.tinypic.com/2ryt2tk.jpg), screenshot 2 (http://i26.tinypic.com/2s6r8g0.jpg)) and sometimes the file plays forward (only (!) audio, and the first frame stays).

Muchos gracias!

On your website though, the DxVA rules for XP are wrong/incomplete in regards to renderer selection. Please see here:

And if you select all mpc internal filter (MP4/MOV source and AAC transform) is it ok? Can you seek in file?

File seeking is not the problem... I can (and always could) still seek in a file. If I click on the slider, at the middle for example, it will correctly say "00:27/01:15", but won't go on to 00:28... Even when I seek, the same video frame (from the beginning) stays.

Also, if I turn off DXVA (uncheck Enable DXVA, but keep the internal MPC H264 decoder itself checked), the video will still NOT show. The file will play forward, and audio can be heard... but no video. Just a black frame.

With ffdshow, everything is showing fine, of course.
