A friend of mine has an issue (which I can't reproduce) where whenever he plays something and closes MPC-HC, the exe is still in the process list and won't play other files till its been killed. Happens for both 64- and 32-bit versions. Any insight about this?

I've had this problem for a LONG time, and so do many friends from HCFR.
I've always thought that it was related to a deadlock w/ ffdshow, as it also happens w/ audio files.
ages ago I asked Casimir if MPC HC could kill any already running MPC when it opens, and kill the process when it closes....but that didn't happen, as he can't reproduce.

it never happens w/ KMPlayer.

The Cyberlink filter still works with MPC-HC if you have Catalyst 9.1?

Can you post a DXVA Checker screenshot with the Catalyst 9.1 here?

I don't know if it works with MPC-HC as I only use the standalone filters.

List seems a bit short?
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7641/zwischenablagebildpu5.png

But I know that AVC DXVA is working with Cyberlink as I'm watching HDTV with DVBViewer at 8% CPU.

I have rarely seen MPC deadlock during close. Most freezing issues that I have seen are during file loading.

One effective way of making MPC freeze is the following:
1) Open up an explorer window for a directory that contains a bunch of audio/video files.
2) Start MPC.
3) Drag&Drop a file into the MPC window
4) Repeat step 3 until a freeze occurs. May take a dozen or more attempts. Dragging and dropping quickly increases the chance of success (in triggering a failure :p).

It is just an easy way to replicate the issue. But it can also happen when opening files 'normally' by double-clicking in explorer.

It might have also happened to me, but many times(especially in EVR w/ the Avisynth filter of ffdshow enabled), it has remained as a process when closed. I even gave a "Process Monitor" log to Casimir, and apparently it was ffdshow creating the deadlock.
It also happens to many ppl on HCFR w/ the same config.

Snowknight26

Well in my friends case, it happens without ffdshow.

Edit: I just got word that audio still plays even though the main window was supposedly closed.

bookmarks/favorites are broken in current version 987

i traced back and found last correctly working version is 980. in 981 it doesn't work properly.

the problem happens when you restore a bookmark for a video that is longer than the video you are currently watching.

so suppose you are watching video1 which is 10 minutes long. if you then restore a bookmark for video2 saved at 30minute mark, mpc will load video2 at 10minute mark. if you restore the same bookmark again while now in video2, mpc will go to 30minute mark.

I didn't manage to do any updates to the renders this weekend, but I got stuck installing a PC with NVidia graphics card and XP+XPx64+Vistax64+Windows7x64

Nice.
Did you have any problem to make working DXVA on Windows 7 X64?
Im asking this because im using this OS with MPCHC X64 908 and im not able to use that functionality. MPC Video Decoder always says me "Not using Dxva" and i dont know why.
This doesnt happen on Vista X64 with the same config.

Thanks.

Be sure you're using the ATI drivers from the website, not the ones from Windows Update.

With r987, when playing a DTS-HD MA track, there is audio corruption when seeking. 16, 24, 32-bit (even when not seeking), and even IEEE Float output formats exhibit this issue.
Also, the volume for DTS-HD MA tracks (or DTS rather) is louder than usual.

Edit: Some more issues. Switching audio tracks (from DTS to that aformentioned AC3 track) takes upwards of 5 seconds. Switching back from AC3 -> DTS(-HD MA) takes a long time too but causes the app to crash.

Samples:
http://www.stfcc.org/misc/00000.cut.m2ts
http://www.stfcc.org/misc/00000.cut2.m2ts (easier with this one, its double the size)

Edit: And some more.. MPC-HC x64 won't play FLAC files. It opens them but pauses the track at the end. Unpausing then seeking anywhere results in it going back to the end of the track.

Edit: Really on a roll here. Seeking through that Blu-ray (interlaced H.264) sometimes causes visual corruption that lasts for approx 1-5 frames. DXVA was enabled.

http://www.stfcc.org/misc/mpc-hc.r987.png

Edit: Hmm. The audio corruption seems to happen with all formats.

Are you talking to me?
Anyway, im using the website driver (for Seven ones), even if i think they're not necessary.
Hasn't MPCHC its own internal codecs to make the DXVA working?

Proper functioning of DXVA and all other video playback depends on correctly working drivers.

Hi guys.
I've been trying to find out a workaround to Vista mixer's down-conversion issue. What i want to do is to get original audio from my speakers over analog cables to my ordinary receiver.

Please have a look at this post first:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1244414#post1244414

So the question is you authors would you add WASAPI output support to MPC_HC, maybe over madflac?

Thanks.

Weekly report.

SVN changes:
Changed: Merged old and new Bluray clip info into old code
Changed: More information (such as bitrate, channels etc) for Bluray streams even with clip info available
Fixed: Made old Bluray clip info work with network paths

Beliyaal build changes:
Added: You can now double click index.bdmv or MovieObject.bdmv to start a bluray with playlist support (instead of opening with Open DVD in menu). You need to select playlists and reset in file associations.

New build with these changes available in signature.

Noticed:
The new 9.1 ATI drivers seems to have glitches, missing VSyncs with Vista desktop composition (not visible in jitter graph). Worked out that the best MPC-HC results are achieved by (for Radeon 4870x2 at 1920x1080x23.976):
* Disabling desktop composition (right click on mplayerc.exe and check "Disable desktop composition" in Compatibility tab).
* EVR Custom with: D3D Fullscreen[ ] Alternate VSync[X] Lock backbuffer[X] EVR Buffers 20
* Select accurate VSync in Renderer Settings
* Change VSync offset to about -6

I have also been noticing erratic bookmark functionality lately, but since I've been using mostly Beliyaal's builds I thought it might be a side effect from one of his changes, but I couldn't reproduce reliably so I didn't quite know what to report.

But if you've nailed it down to SVN build 981 then it must be caused by Aleksoid's seek range fix, so perhaps Aleksoid or one of the other devs can have a look at how this change could break the bookmark function under certain circumstances. :thanks:

P.S. Why not include ALL the changes from your version in the SVN version too (merge) ? since as far as I can see there are NOT MAJOR BUGS SPECIFIC to your version (I CAN'T find any) and SVN are NOT "oficial releases" ?

Add me to list of people who can't get DXVA working with Cat 9.1 using XP Pro SP3. :( Seems like it's XP users only.

I'm starting to dislike ATI's Catalyst Crew more and more. Since I've owned my HD3200, I've had problems fixed, but new ones introduced with every driver release. First it was slow 2D performance while internet browsing, which was FINALLY fixed just recently. Then they added the Pixel Format option which wouldn't stick on YCbCr, always reverted back to RGB FULL 444. Now that's fixed, and they break DXVA with XP.

Because the bugs in the Beliyaal version reported days ago have still not been fixed, such as that .FLV file playback is broken in the Beliyaal version but works fine in the equivalent SVN version. I play low quality .FLV files regularly in addition to HD .MKV files, so it is "major" to me.

Ok, are you absolutely sure that you have installed the redist? This is not the same as the latest version of DirectX and includes D3DX which is separate from D3D. The file plays fine with VLC.

With MPC-HC, the audio glitches - and I cannot tell whether it is maxing the CPU or not, because whenenver I take it off fullscreen, MPC-HC crashes (only with this one file). The FILTER menu selection is grayed out.

I'm getting broken playback of .dts files when using the internal DTS/AC3 source filter. It seems to be playing them back ~5% too fast: the reported duration is too short and the pitch is too high.

Quick update: these problems only occur when using Reclock. Otherwise, all DTS files playback fine. However, 44.1khz DTS files still report an incorrect duration - usually too short by about 20 seconds. This is as of revision 988.

I think that you are confused about the names.

x264 is encoding software that creates H.264 files (also known as "AVC" files).

DIVX is a company that makes encoding software, and also releases a player and decoder in the package.

So, if you can clarify what you are talking about, that would be helpful.

All of this discussion is very technical, so it makes it hard to follow if people do not use the right terms for what they are talking about.

sorry for my english.

It doesn't have to do with English, "H.264" is not in English. :D

It is just copying the name just as it was shown: "Divx7 H.264 decoder".

Anyway, the problems that two of us are having with MOV files are with the internal decoder.

So, the question is - how do I get MPC-HC to use external filters on this MOV file ? If I uncheck the MP4/MOV internal source filter, MPC-HC still plays back the file exactly the same, and again with FILTERS grayed out in the menu.

Fastest way is to rename .mov to .hdmov. As a source filter u can use also haali.

It doesn't have to do with English, "H.264" is not in English. :D
