i try :

Resizer - use Bicubic A=-1.00 (PS 2.0), better resize quality
I find that when A=-1.00, the picture looks to be over-sharpened. Try A=-0.60 then go up from there.

because i read that -0.6 is the sharpest and -1.0 is the softest in haali video renderer. but i don't know where and can't find it again.

also (ii) if I associate a filetype handled by haali splitter in MPC-HC options it seems to break haali thumbnail extraction for videos- is there a way to get round this-
The file association code is probably deleting the shell extension registry keys that are created by Haali.
does MPC-HC have a thumbnail extraction ability or one in development?:thanks:Thumbnail extraction is done by shell plugins for Explorer. That is totally unrelated to players.

Hum... I checked for myself and "-1.00" is the most soft as possible for haali and "-0.00" (haali goes from "-0.00" to "-1.00") is the most sharp.

Seems that haali uses the settings in reverse from EVR (that goes from "-0.60" to "-1.00", soft to sharp)

Your statement was corret.;)

I have been unable to play any .flac files for a while with various svn of MPC-HC, I just get "cannot render the file". It is possible I changed a setting that has broken it but I don't know what so I'd appreciate a tip to fix this as it is just about the only filetype that doesn't work.
...Sorry to ask the obvious, but you do have a decoder installed, like madflac?
Good point... thanks:) I thought mpc-hc might have a built in flac decoder like vlc, installed madflac now all works OK.

Thanks for your reply. So is it possible to have mpc-hc associated with video files and still have thumbnail extraction- do I need a separate plugin to enable that- if so can anyone recommend one (for XP)?

The file association code in MPC-HC needs to be improved.

But you should be able to solve your problem by re-installing Haali splitter.

Is anybody having issues with the lastest builds and the new icons? For example .mkv files show the "ALAC" icon, .ts files show the "OGM" icon, and so on. This didn't happen before, and it'd be easy to find the problematic build just by testing. rev849 is fine, rev900 and following are wrong, I've not tested any other builds in between due to the lack of time.

Solution is to remux with yamb to mp4.

Wow, it worked. The stuttering is gone and the filesize dropped from 907MB to 120MB but now I can't seek properly. I use MPC-HC, latest revision (906).

Check out the medainfo thingy I exported from the .avi (original) and .mp4 (created)

Is there something I can to about it?

EDIT2:

No need for help right now. I manage to use an updated version of mp4box, replaced the old one in MeGUI and now it works. And it didn't drop in size so now I know it works correctly and I can seek properly too. :)

You need last mpciconlib.dll, because in 849 and 900 thay different, and result - not rigth icon show on type.

I just installed MPC-HC under WinXP64 and noticed, that the OSD isn't working. I tried the offical stable Version from sourceforge as well as the new Version 906. I even tried the 64bit version. The OSD doesnt show up (Yes, I changed the Video Renderer, it didn't work).

Is there a general problem with XP64 or could it be due to the Video Driver (ATI Catalyst 8.11). Under Vista64 everything is working fine.

Thanks, I found this haali package for XP (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=490855&view=findpost&p=590073724) with a reg hack to get other filetypes to work- it seems slightly erratic though and seemed to be very slow to draw thumbnails on some folders and won't work at all for .flv presumably because haali doesn't support it.

Update directx to last.
When updating Directx, do you need to wipe out using some software the existing directx, or is it enough to run the directx redistributable itself?
Assuming one is already running directx9c on xp (or 10 on vista).

Yes that's what I did a few days ago.
I was wondering though, as on my pc I don't have WMP 9 (or better) installed, whether that might have a part in the errors I was getting occasionally with MPC... (mpg/vob/avi etc)
Also, I set haali splitter to handle avi's - wonder if that might be the culprit...

Clearing the Windows Icon cache should fix it.

(delete hidden file in Windows directory called "ShellIconCache" and reboot)

STaRGaZeR
28th November 2008, 21:27
That's not present in Vista64. I've only found "IconCache.db", deleting and rebooting fixes the .mkv icon but not .ts or .mp4. Also when you actually disable association with icons in MPC these that are displayed wrong will keep the same wrong icon, where the now fixed .mkv will show the standard unassociated Windows icon.

rev849:

MPC icons disabled --> All Windows default.
MPC icons enabled --> All good.

rev906:

MPC icons disabled --> All Windows default except the ones that are wrong to begin with, ts (OGM), mp4 (MPC), dat (OGM). They remain fixed.
MPC icons enabled --> Several ones are wrong even after deleting icon cache, ts (OGM), mp4 (MPC), dat (OGM).

Hi Casimir666,

First off all, thanks for the new release. The release history shows

support Multi-Monitor configuration, select Monitor for full-screen playback

as one of the new features. If the Direct3D fullscreen mode is not active, this feature works like it should.

But if the Direct3D fullscreen mode is active, the fullscreen playback always appears on the monitor where the mpc main window is located before the media file is loaded. The monitor selection in options / output is simply ignored when the D3D mode is active.

ATM I am using a workaround, which is based on two shortcuts on my desktop with different command line parameters to determine which monitor should be used in D3D mode. But I would appreciate it if this problem could be solved in a future release of the mpc.

I am using 8.10, also SP3 and latest DirectX update. Have tried all renderers and nearly all MPC-HC builds over the last few months.
DXVA works fine on my system with PowerDVD 7.3 and ZoomPlayer with Cyberlink filters, just not MPC.
Actually, it's not that DXVA isn't "working" per se, as the video decoder clearly shows "DXVA bitstream decoding", it's just that the video, like I said, is flashing back and forth and shows corruption.
And I'm not the only one, a friend of mine has the exact same problems with ATi 3650 and 2600 cards and, like myself, has experienced those same problems for months, with no improvement coming from updates of any kind.

I am having the same flashing problem with my PCI-e ATI 3650 card. Running XP and Catalyst 8.10 and MPC build 906

Picture flashes back a bit, sometimes macroblocks appear, sometimes pictures flashes back and forth and get stuck in a loop.

Any solution for that?

Ugh - any icon size bigger than 32x32 for files is just insane; there's little enough screen real estate already so why limit the amount of files on the screen at a time even more by using obscenely large icons?

If anything, make an optional download for a high-res mpciconlib.dll, but please keep them out of the normal download...

Having to download several megabytes of data that won't ever get used on XP with every MPC-HC update is just a waste.

If MPC support both - XP and Vista, i think that and icons library MUST support XP and Vista. And in Vista if in icon not include 256x256 in explorer view broken(i can do screeshot, if need).

Suggestion: to detect os version at install time and install a different icon library for XP and Vista respectively...
And for those of us like me who just unzip the files, just drop in a different mpciconlib-vista.dll which has to be renamed to mpciconlib.dll on vista for the extra icons..

Both use 16x16, 32x32, and 48x48.
Vista uses 256x256 for all large icon views.
16 color icons are also not used.

I'd say include an mpciconlib.dll with up to 32x32 sized icons in the download (it's just 750kB compressed, after all, going by the last "official" release) and make the separate download a full version with all sizes.

Though if there's icon sizes in there that Windows doesn't use like clsid said I'd frankly drop them...

Also, a separate download for the localisation DLLs would be nice - I never use them, and most people who want them are probably going to be using only one of them, so why download them all?

Just my 2 cents...

Hardware VC-1 in Vista can use DXVA1 mode, that's why VMR renderer can be used with it. H264 on the other hand doesn't.

do you use MPC-HC's internal mkv+mp4 splitter? you should change to Haali. MPC-HC's splitter for those containers isnt perfect, but as there is a good alternative (Haali), improving those isnt a priority for the developers

Hy
When someones know why exiting mpc-hc from fullscreen, please help.

Maybe some other window is stealing the focus? Disable any other apps running in the background which could cause this.

Hardware VC-1 in Vista can use DXVA1 mode, that's why VMR renderer can be used with it. H264 on the other hand doesn't.

I could use EVR (dxva2), but I don't like colors... faces look too saturated (red). Should'nt both renderers give same picture quality?

Can MPC video decoder get DXVA under VMR9 in Vista (for H264 movies)?

For VC-1 it works.

Thanks.

in Vista H264 can only with DXVA2(EVR) because VMR9 - DXVA1. that's all.
