Changing the screen margins of subtitles has no effect in 3812. Last known working build is 3807.
Looks like 3808 (http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc?revision=3808&view=revision) is causing this.

Here's how to reproduce: Enable "Position subtitles relative to the video frame", play a video with SRT subs, now change the bottom margin. Result: subtitle margin doesn't change.

Edit: Oops, kasper93 already reported (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1536396#post1536396) it.
Is there an ETA for a fix?

Is it possible to fix the window size aspect ratio (as in fix the window to AR) when increasing the size of the window by the size extender mouse cursor at the edge of the window?

I have view->video frame->aspect ratio, enabled. The video retains is aspect ratio but when resizing the window as described above, it creates black areas next to the video when resizing in this way.

I do use the size presets but i have recently gone to a 1920x1200 resolution monitor and find that the size presets for some videos are too big or too small and i am having to manually size the windows.

Why are you manually resizing? Are you unaware of the fullscreen function?

speaking of the sub renderer, displaying subs uses up gpu video ram?

the reason i ask, is that on a computer with low video ram, i have poor performance using the subtitle renderer in combination with madvr, and i suspect there it is just running out of ram.

Of course i am ware of the full screen option. I have been using mpc for 10 years or so.

I like to make a video a certain size at the bottom right of the screen while i get on with other work, then i can multitask.

Basically would it be possible to add some more size presets?

When I say size presets i mean the zoom presets available via the keyboard shortcut alt+1, alt+2, alt+3.

25%, 40%, 75% or make the alt+1, alt+2, alt+3 customizable to user specific percentages alternatively is there a way to set specific zoom sizes ?

Thanks for great software.

Why can't you disable the subtitles that are external and loaded by the player (ex:movie.avi, movie.srt) using the 'S' key? How do you disable such subtitles when in D3D:FS?

If madvr is the on who is responsible for displaying subs then sure it requires more. The images it receives from upstream filters (which are subs), madvr should store them somewhere before show them on the screen, isn't it?
From my personal experience you need at least 512mb gpu ram for madvr for everything to be smooth.

I checked "Fast seek" option and now I can smooth rewind BRrip movies using SHIFT and -> but... when i want rewind .avi files smooth I needed to uncheck .avi format from "Iternal Filters" (if I don't do it, then when I start rewind it's not smoorth at all) and then to rewind movie I must use CTRL and -> oO why I can't use just arrows to both?

Sorry for my english.

I have updated my MPC-HC BE builds with the new r3855 sources. You can grab it while its fresh here http://www.mediafire.com/?nbb4gclb828ax ;)

(I tried a new gcc build for this one (4.6.2) and so far, it seems to behave as good as the xvidvideo.ru gcc 4.6.1. Feel free to give some feedback if you experience problems while using it)

Well, it seems that Alexins has finally started to release his builds on a more often basis, like before... But it's nice to see somebody else takes the trouble to compile BE mod as well. It's always good to have a choice/contingency. ;)

Though, I keep saying that incorporating it in the SVN would be a No1 choice but that ain't in my power to make happen and those who could make it happen don't feel like it or care whatsoever.

I do not have this problem.
It works with SRT but not with SSA subs. Changing the margins has no effect with SSA. The lines stay at the bottom and longer characters are cut off.

Edit: I checked more samples: some SRTs don't work, some do. Everything is fine with rev3807.
Edit #2: If the AR is 16:9, SRTs are OK, SSAs are not.
If the AR is 2.35:1, SRT and SSA are broken. Changing the margin has no effect with both subtitle types.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this question. I'm trying to get 1080p24 working with mpc-hc and some 23.97fps HD mkvs but I still get stuttering. Not sure what I'm missing. Here's what I'm doing:

1) Install latest nvidia drivers for GT240
2) Set refresh rate to '23' in nvidia control panel (TV reports 1080p24, mouse cursor refreshing much slower)
3) Using latest mpc-hc 64bit build
4) Set mpc-hc renderer to evr-sync (not sure if this is correct)
5) Play file, jumps and stutters every few seconds

That's my 32 bit script that I stole to fix my errors. I think the libmingwex.a for 64 bit needs to be copied to your lib64 dir though to fix that.

I'm not sure if that's or bug or intentional:

When you open the context menu and go to View there is no item Language. It is there when you open View from the menu bar. I have to menu bar removed (Ctrl+0) and so use the context menu and at first couldn't find View -> Language.

Is that a wanted behaviour to keep the list short or was the Language item forgotten?

kasper93

starting from rev 3513, "prefer external subtitles over embedded subtitles" (Options->Subtitles->Misc) doesn't prefer movie.txt, it load embedded subtitles instead. (movie filename: movie.mkv) It works only when there is movie.pol.txt and "pol" is set in "Default track preference". Only way to prefer external subs without lang prefix is to turn on "ignore embedded subtitles". I think that should not work like that ;) And when subtitle file doesn't have language prefix subtitles are shown as "undetermined" on the list. I think there should be file name or something.

Hmm.

Increased width of MPCVideoDec dialog so that long graphic card descriptions are fully visible.
Please show me an example of a very long description? I think the window width is too wide. I would like to make it smaller.

Hi all,

Sorry to bother, but i've been unable to figure out a solution to the problem i've been having, despite several days of scouring the net.

The problem, in a nutshell, is that video playback becomes extremely choppy the moment subtitles are displayed on the screen. For example, when watching 'Salt' everything is silky smooth until the sections with Forced subtitles. When these come up the video is no longer smooth. Audio remains fine, and the video seems in sync with the audio, it's just choppy.

Oddly enough, CPU usage at all times seems to hover around 5-10%. This is with 1080p h264 content, DTS audio and simple embedded SRT subtitles.

My computer is a simple HTPC with an NVidia ION2.

I'm happy to provide whatever information would be helpful to aid with diagnosing this issue.

Thanks much for all your hard work and for making a terrific app. It's been perfect for all my needs so far, and it's only been this small issue that's been problematic.

Thanks!

--

Update: I've been playing around with the information that MPC shows in the display. I turned on 'display stats' and saw that during subtitle sections Jitter went waaaaay up (from around +/-8ms to +70ms). Sync offset also seems to skew a lot, and the framerate drops to about 20-22fps

Hi. I'm using the internal subtitle renderer. These are plaintext simple srt subtitles. The subtitles are embedded in the MKV i'm playing. I haven't tried external subtitles. I get this with many movies. It is not limited to any single movie.

This is a stock Win7 install with only MPC and LAV filters installed.

If there's anything you want me to run, or any sort of logfile i can collect for you that will help, please let me know.

I'd make sure you don't have any settings in the Nvidia Control Panel like overriding application settings and setting antialiasing to 16xAA globally or just for MPC-HC, you saying it's plaintext subtitles and not styled subtitles ruled out a lot of problems (although left pretty much nothing to look into since you say CPU usage stays low).

My only suggestion left is to use something like directvobsub or xy-vsfilter instead of the internal subtitle renderer (At least just to see if the problem no longer happens when they are used).

I do not have this problem.

It has already been explained:

@fastplayer: I'll take that one. I was wondering about it too. So far, I've only seen a few posts in this tread about this feature, and no other comments. Some more user input is welcome. To quote myself:Extra adaptation for aspect ratios over 2 was added for when "Position subtitles relative to the video frame" is enabled, indeed at the cost of usage of the margins setting. (RTS.cpp, line 3208)
Changes to this feature are open for discussion, just like any other part of the subtitle renderer. I don't mind changing things. (I've seen that I need to patch a few minor inaccuracies of the formatted text parser soon, anyway.)(The other patch is in the mean time ready for integration.)

@fastplayer: Please wait for others opinion. :)

Hi golagoda. You're awesome! It was indeed the nvidia settings. I had seen the note in MPC about antialiasing, but i didn't think it would apply to me as i had never touched my video card settings. I didn't realize that the *default* settings would be a problem. Once i went in and explicitly turned off anti-aliasing off i saw buttery smooth playback of video and subtitles.

Thanks so much for your help.

As a possible feature request, it would be awesome if MPC could somehow detect that this was going on and tell the user. However, i have no idea if it's possible for an app to query the system to see if that's the case. Either way, you all have been awesome! Thanks much.

Opening it in ffplay resulted in it playing, but very very bad playback, very laggy/jumpy (yet low CPU usage) and obvious incorrect playback as well as the message '[vc1 @ 0x669a10] Interlaced frames/fields support is incomplete'

Opening it in mplayer2 resulted in heaps of errors saying there was an error decoding the frame, but with similar playback as to what happened when ffplay was used.

There have been quite a few commits for the vc1 decoder recently so hopefully it's being worked on, since it's obviously not up to par yet.

The "green bars" with MPEG-2 video and ATI cards is going to be fixed soon? I don't watch MPEG-2 videos regularly, but it would be nice to have it fixed.

What decoder - software or DXVA, upload a sample for test.

sometimes such things like a half of the screen being green and the other one not also happens with some interlaced vc-1 stuff. not sure whether this is due to ati or I also suspect ffdshow set to raw video (and wmdecoder dmo)

I'm using MPC-HC internal MPEG-2 filter (not the DXVA), and I get the green bars with any DVD-Video.

What version of the player? What system? x86 or x64? Nvidia or ATI?

Try 1.5.3.3866 (link1 (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-classic-home-cinema-x86-x64), link2 (http://xhmikosr.1f0.de/index.php?folder=bXBjLWhj))

I'm using 1.5.3.3866 x64 and I have the same problem with green bars when playing back MPEG2 with internal sw decoder.

I've checked and it seems that this bug was introduced somewhere between rev 3773-3776 and it is related to 64bit version. 32bit works perfectly fine.

You talking about such green bars?
http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/5064/20111201001855.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/577/20111201001855.png/)
1.5.3.3834 x64
Radeon 6950
Cat 11.11
I can see them only on intro video, on the middle of it they disappears. When I start "main" video, they appear for a second, and then go away

Yes, I was talking about them in my previous post. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16282309/MPC-HC/green.bars.png Indeed in title menu they disappears, but in main video they are present all time.

EDIT:

deinterlacing, Blend are causing this. So I think http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpc-hc/changeset/3774 is responsible for that green bars.

Windows 7 x64, MPC-HC 3866 x64, ATI HD4830 with latest 11.11 drivers. The issue remains unfixed in the 64bit version. Works fine in the 32bit one.

About GREEN BAR - try
http://aleksoid.tosei.ru/Test/mpc-hc.MPEG2_test_x64.7z
http://aleksoid.tosei.ru/Test/mpc-hc.MPEG2_test_x86.7z

And also - try sample from ticket 1804 - https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpc-hc/ticket/1804 (after that "fix" error - we have green bar in x64 build).
