Why not just deactivate your screensaver completely?
Unless you're using a plasma monitor there's no need to fear the image being burnt in...
np: Markus Guentner - Donaunebel (Pop Ambient 2002)
My PC's main function is a "Computer"(For some reason,I need ScreenSaver),HTPC function for my HD LCD just a temporary setup(I am waiting for my popcornhours A-100 Hardware Player come in next month).
BTW:TheaterMode for EVR is useless,And disable it will prevent Screensaver kicking in when I play full screen on TV.

EVR has grey bars though
I gave a link on the previous page to fix that.
or just resize to your native resolution with ffdshow like I do ;)

Have to use the internal MPC subtitle engine, no DirectVobSub. Of course need to use VMR renderless mode or EVR custom presenter.
i have vmr9 enabled already, the subtitles are embedded in the mkv file, how can i enable the internal sub renderer? (i have already disabled vobsub)

Hi _xxl,
Thank you for posting this. The VC-1 bitstream decoder with DXVA runs great on my system.
Would it be possible to compile 2 separate MPC Video Decoder .ax filters? One for WVC1 and one for H264? I ask because I have an ATI card that seems to have problems when playing H264 files but no problems with WVC1. I am having trouble getting the filter merits worked out and I either get the MPC filter taking control of everything or taking control of nothing (unregistered). 2 separate versions of the decoder for each FOURCC would help greatly.
If it is not possible, thanks for this great stuff anyways! Awesome!

Never mind i go it
1 set vmr 9 renderless
2 enable "autoload subtitles" in the mpc main options
3 disable both directvobsubs
tada subs and dxva :D

The MPC VideoDecoder.ax is the Decoder with DXVA for VC1 and H264
Simply use/set it for VC1 and H264 in any DShowplayer. I use it in Zoomplayer, works perfect :)
I have a ATI HD3870 and DXVA for H264 works perfect.

If you look elsewhere in this thread and the Forum, EVR has better picture quality and solves some other problems.
I just installed Net.3 to play with EVR on my main PC.
Do you think I should also install Net.3 on my HTPC (2800+ Barton, ATI 9800 Pro) which I use MPC HT/Zoom Player, always with Reclock and always VMR9 Renderless?
Would I see an improvement in performance etc?

Hi ACrowley,
Thanks for responding. I too use the videodecoder.ax in directshow players. I was just wondering if there was a way to separate the filter into 2 different filters: 1 specific for H264 and 1 specific for VC1. On my system, I have H264 working very well with a different decoder but I would like the VC1 decoderas a separate .ax.
In any case, this is my problem and not within the scope of this thread. I just thought I would ask. No biggie. Thanks anyways.

There is no need to import GRF : MPC can read EVO directly if you set-up properly internal/external filters.
Little tips :
- disable AC3/DTS and Mpeg internal filters
- install latest Haali splitter, and enable MPEG TS/PS source
- add all unwanted filters in "External filters" and set "block" radio button
I'm having difficulties with this.
I currently have MPC-HC setup nicely to play .MKV files using Haali and CoreAVC and SPDIFER in the external filters. .AVI files use ffdshow and SPDIFER. VC-1 files using Matroska container player nicely with Haali, WMVdecoder and AC3FILTER, etc.
.EVO defaulted to Zoom Player (since it was not setup in MPC-HC) and played with Haali, WMVdecoder but no sound decoder at all. When I changed the .EVO default to MPC-HC, it played the audio only but no video screen at all.
Thanks for any and all assistance !
PS I don't see "MPEG TS/PS" in any list.

_xxl, I suppose you mean with this ffmpeg based decoder however CyberLink's AVC decoder works well with Nvidia 7000 series. The video processor (VP1) is not on par with current VP2 and UVD though.

Has anyone been able to get the filters setting just right so that MPC-HC can decode the following formats? when possible using DXVA
HDDVD + all audio formats
Bluray + all audio formats
DVD + all audio formats
My spdif decoder supports as highest:
ac3 > Dolby Digital EX2
dts > DTS-ES2

Your card can accelerate motion compensation for H264, and for the moment mpc decoder support only bitstream mode (Power DVD support both).
Ffmpeg is used in mpc-hc mostly for software mode. In Dxva mode ffmpeg didn't decode, it only extract a few informations from frames header.

SPDIFER is just the portion of AC3FILTER that passes output directly to the spdif output. It's simpler and more foolproof, since there are only a few settings.
I do use AC3FILTER for some specialized purposes (mostly converting surround formats other than AC3 and DTS to AC3 so that they can be decoded by my amplifier), and using two separate decoders makes it easier to leave each setup for its particular purpose.

ahhh ic
Well in my case if have an X-fi in my pc that does all the ac3 and dts decoding so i never use the function to create ac3 streams from other media, but i do use ac3filters matrix for converting mp3 stereo tracks to 5,1 tracks, but i never use that function for any of the other audio formats, and the x-fi would actually be able to do it by itself (but its a pita to keep enabling and disabling it as i do not use that feature for music)

I'm using MPC-HC r422 set to VMR (Renderless) output on a 8800gt. Are there only certain instances when DXVA is used? The reason I ask is because of the 15 files I've tried only one seems to have DXVA activated. Thanks.

Ah Ok
Maybe you should use Zoomplayer Customized Media Playback.
You can set Decoder/Filters for all Formats /Codecs
Set MPC-VideoDecoder for VC1 and your desired Decoder for h264
I ask the 3rd Time :
Pan&Scan mode isnt working here. When i set it to 16:9 (or other Mode) i get a Blackscreen. When i select Reset Picture comes Back ?

If it combines with ffdshow mpc hc, we can not activ the dxva, because that disables the option to in mpc hc

it could be done like in graphedit with audio pins not being connected, i'd suppose?

They are just really bad reencodes: low quality, low bitrate (3Mbps), non compliant, who knows what wacky settings. They are not particularly demanding for software-only decode though -especially given you have an HD3870 so must have a decent CPU too. So, if the practical problem is how to avoid having to disable DxVA to watch the bad files you already have then perhaps enable the "store settings to INI" option in MPC and plunk a copy of the program in a different folder to use different settings.
Would it be possible to detect these and force them to play in software only mode too? Unfortunately, a lot of my older reencodes are done like this, and the source .ts files were deleted a long time ago, and its hard to tell beforehand which episodes are encoded badly like this or not.
Also, could we get an x64 compiled version of the .ax filter please?

I'm using mpc hc build 422 and playing some vc-1 video with built-in mpc video decoder seems to have a problem.
mpc hc plays this file (http://www.sendspace.com/file/0b1fq3) with stuttering in software mode and won't even play(no picture) in hardware mode.
If I demux the vc-1 es and mux it to mkv using eac3to, everything is OK.

A huge thanks for fixing the subresync formatting tag bug !!! Can you point out where was the problem at the SVN? (since I have spent at least 2 hours to find out with no success :) )
Yet another request with subtitles:
can you make remember the built in engine to the last used subtitle tag like in VSFilter? (eg. EN, HU, ES)
Now, it uses always the alphabetical 1st one, which is very annoying ...
Example:
foo.avi
foo.EN.srt
foo.ES.srt
Now, it uses the EN subs, but VSfilter uses the ES if I have selected it on a previous file!

What is the chance of an ATI X800XT AIW ever have hardware acceleration for 1080p mkv file H264 / X264?
Should I start to consider buying a new card or is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
Thanks!

Some X264 1080p mkv files cannot be accelerated by any hardware, so best is to put your money into a faster CPU.

default settings should be the best settings :p
h264 skip deblocking mode is for disable loop filter of certain type of frames, or set to all to disable on all frames.
this options is for when user's sytem is slow for decoding hi-def h264, or for debugging purpose.

It's not exactly an email, but take a look here (http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_projfiles.php?group_id=170561). I wouldn't be surprised if there were some service out on the Internets that notifies you by mail if there's a new post in an RSS feed...

Options will be added to the filter that will allow you to configure which formats it should decode. Those options are already available in MPC, but not yet in the standalone filter.
I hope the "Options" added soon.
If standalone(ax) filter has the options like that,
it will be more powerful.
