Hmm....apparently, if the option "reintialize when display changing" is unchecked, the output range of the Renderer Setting do not work. Anyone can confirm this?

Hi Casimir, clsid, Beliyaal... and rest of the MPC-HC development team members!
Would it be possible in the future the allow H.264 decoder to accept PES stream as an input in addition to H.264 Access Unit stream type?
Why?
It would allow the only open source, hardware accelerated H.264 directshow decoder (MPC-HC), to be used with wider range of applications (MediaPortal included).
Currently there are many demultiplexers that are incompatible with the MPC-HC codec as it "passes" stream decoding responsibilities to the multiplexer side.
ffdshow has added similar functionality in last fall and all other (commercial) H.264 codecs are supporting both types of H.264 stream from the source filter.
Currently incompatible source filters / demultiplexers are:
TsReader from MediaPortal
DVBSource from DVBViever
Elecard
MS MPEG-2 Demultiplexer
Sonic HD Demux
DVBViewer forum thread about the issue: http://www.dvbviewer.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=29657
Best regards,
tourettes from MediaPortal team.

Is there any command line switch to start playback at a certain point of time, like /play /time=mmss?

You can find a full list of command line switches in the Help menu of MPC. That includes one that you want.

IS there any plan to improve the MP3 tag reading in MPCHC? I like using it as an audio player since it's simple and lightweight, but as it stands right now, it refuses to read any of my MP3 files' tags. My entire library is tagged exclusively with ID3v2.3 and no ID3v1 tags (which it seems is all MPC supports). Does anyone know of a plugin or in something that would read newer ID3 tags? I'd like for MPCHC to feed accurate data to Pidgin for my status instead of simply the filename. Thanks.

+1 :goodpost:
I assume this is why DVBViewer crashes when trying to use MPCVideoDec.ax.
I would also like to quote CiNcH from the thread starla_ linked to:
My goal is to finally have a replacement for the CyberLink decoder when it comes to DXVA.
This has been my goal for a while as well.

I'm sure this could be applied with a simple library update but I think the devs are too concerned with video performance in the upcoming stable build to worry about that right now. I'm sure it can be done right after the stable build is released, however.

+2 :) I found cyberlink decoder to stutter on my stuff :( only using arcsoft would i get smooth on the fly deinterlacing.
would love to use mpc video decoder for live streams, just the one tool would cover all my use :(
Yes, I seem to remember noticing the same thing. Cyberlink probably uses a regular bobber or some other deinterlacing method that isn't so good with fast motion. Arcsoft may be using a more advanced algorithm or hardware deinterlacing.
I stuck with the Cyberlink decoder in DVBViewer because the OSD wasn't shown with Arcsoft (something about DVBViewer needing a secondary input pin for OSD IIRC), and I also had problems getting DXVA to stay enabled with Arcsoft. But this was with older bundle/OEM versions of Arcsoft, so they may have been fixed in the more recent/retail versions for all I know.
CoreAVC is another commercial option for Nvidia owners (using CUDA), but the CPU usage is still a little higher than Cyberlink/DXVA and it also has some other problems with aspect ratio with H.264 SD streams etc.
Anyway, this is drifting off topic, so let's get back to MPC-HC, which hopefully one day (thanks to the developers spending their free time to improve it) will be the free alternative that allows us to ditch the commercial decoders permanently. :)

@ devs
I have some proposals / questions referring the DEFAULT settings in MPC-HC !
1. Whay not check the Matroska and Ogg internal splitters by default cause they are now working as well as all the other internal splitters which are check by default ?
2. Both VC1 filters (DXVA and nonDXVA) should be UNcheck by default cause they are NOT working with VC1 i (and some times not even with VC1 p) which is more common than VC1 p by far and also the WMVideo Decoder DMO, which is already there, it's working now ( :thanks: Beliyaal ) with both VC1 i and VC1 p ?
3. For Resizer, IF Bilinear (PS 2.0) means Bilinear Pixel Shader 2.0 why not select it by default since If there is no Pixel Shader 2.0 support, simple bilinear is used automatically
All this, for making MPC-HC (as much as possible) more easy to use for the "newbie" ( all ) users :helpful:

Totally agree ! (maybe I wasn't clear enough ?!) but that wasn't my point ! the other internal splitters also do not work as well as other external splitters and they are check by default . (example the internal mp4 splitter and Haali's mp4 splitter)

Well, you clearly said the opposite in your first post.
Disabling more of the internal filters is not a bad idea, provided that (1) a commonly used external alternative exists that is better, or (2) the internal filter has bugs that impact the user experience of the average user.
Disabled internal filters will automatically get used (in low merit mode) when no external filter is available.

I think, it will be usefull for others:
Sometime ago i had a complex problem with tearing/av-desync in 24hz refresh mode watching 24p hdrips. MPC-HC(with beliyaal edits) seemed to solve my problem(evr custom renderer) and i was happy until i started noticing a very poor quality of evr-custom(awful pixelization of upscaled dvds and hd-rips)
So, i started research (again:)). And today i found the ultimate solution. All this time i was using external haali mkv spliter. As it turned out it was not a good idea. I cheked the "matroska" checkbox in Internal filters so mpc-hc could use it's internal mkv spliter. After that i started to watch hd fragments with 2 renderers(only overlay mixer and vmr7-windowed have a really good quality). And finally i chosed vmr7windowed.
My combination now is: winxpsp3 + nvidia9500gt + coreavc(with cuda enabled) + internal mpchc mkv spliter + vmr7windowed. It's advantages:
- no avsynс problems(it's very important. VMR7windowed combined with internal mkv splitter somehow manages to dynamically eliminate desync)
- no tearing problems
- ability to zoom picture and change aspect ratio.
- best PQ
- all above works for both hd and dvd(for dvd i'm using internal mpc mpeg splitter.)

Pixelation of upscaled video is perhaps due to using bilinear instead of bicubic.
I cannot imagine why choice of renderer would affect upscaling, unless the scaling method changes.

I have one question:
I use MPc homecinema 972 and I use lock back buffer two years ago. With lock back buffer there isn't tearing. BUt I notice that since two months in the different versions of mpc, there isn't lock back buffer option.
Why destroy an option very usefull?
I am very disappointed.
With Alternate vsync or vsync it is less good. I have tearing and it's more complicated than before to configure.

thnaks.
But I have two questions:
1) What is the true differences between vsync and accurate vsync because in the wiki it's not easy to understand?
2) Alternative vsync is just for D3D fullscreen option or not?
gngn
27th June 2009, 17:14
1.) besides Beliyaal i dont think anyone could give you an exact response to that. "Vsync" will enable the anti-tearing and anti-stuttering fixes Beliyaal implemented. also you need to have "Vsync" enabled to use accurate and alternative Vsync correctly. or so i understood from what i read. accurate Vsync will enable "something" that should give an even better Vsync.
2.) alternative Vsync is for manually increasing/decreasing the vsync offset (with Ctrl+Alt+UP, Ctrl+Alt+DOWN), and from what i experienced it will lead to tearing if i just enable it and dont manually adapt the vsync offset to the particullar video im playing. it's not only D3D fullscreen related

Someone decided to incorporate the code before it was adequately explained.
We are hoping the settings can be technically
described, so that we can test them prior to a "stable" version release.
For example, I tried the new sync display. With "Vsync" unchecked in the Renderer settings, other settings will change the graph. There is no documentation on the graph, but perhaps it is just showing what the code would do if it is turned on ? I am assuming that unchecking "Vsync" in the Renderer settings turns off all of MPC-HC's Vsync code and allows the graphic card drivers to do the sync in whatever manner they have been set to do - is that correct ? There are different graph results with the 4 different combinations of "Vsync" and "Alternate Vsync" checked, for example.
I still have this bug with VMR9 (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2799089&group_id=170561&atid=854651) freezing after hibernate or fullscreen applications and did file it at sourceforge a couple of weeks ago. Any idea if this will be fixed any time soon?
Are there others with that problem as well, or is it just me?
I don't want to annoy the devs, it's just that I'd like to know if I can expect this to be fixed in the next month or rather this year? So I don't check sourceforge every few days... :)

the "new" Beliyaal code has proven it's usefulness for me, no tearing on my CRT monitor, but pretty smooth fps judder, and no dropped frames even with the latest soft-sub-karaoke the anime-fansubs use. i had problems at the beginning, partially because the new settings weren't fool-proof explained, and partially because i'm not that tehnically inclined i guess, so i tested "differerent/all posible" settings for the visual outcome. not something you could ask the broad public after the next stable release.
Beliyaal said he will provide us with a detailed description of his new implemented fixes, but although he last signed up a day ago, his last post on doom9 is almost a month old. Casimir666's last post is more than 10 days old, even tetsuo55 hasnt been posting in this thread for over a week. i really and sincerely hope there aren't any problems ....

hmm oddly no.... might have to try vista.
Indeed, with XP, "VMR9 renderless" and "EVR Custom Pres." cause awful tearing and pixelization.
So, simply use "VMR7 windowed" ("System Default" should also result in same). It has the best quality and features with the only exception being losing DXVA when subtitles are present. In that case, a seperate configuration using "VMR9 renderless" can be used with a shortcut on the Send To menu.

Maybe it's time to fix MPC-HC :)? What kind of issues MPC-HC has with other DVD navigators?
If it is only menu issues then the sollution is following: DVD navigator should be always used with corresponding MPEG2 decoder (Cyberlink's DVD Navigator with Cyberlink's MPEG2 codec, Vista MS DVD Navigator with Vista's MPEG2 decoder etc.). This is how it works perfectly in MediaPortal. Mixing the decoder and navigator filters causes just lot of non-working DVD manus.
