Hi,
I know this topic has been brought up, but I didn't see any new information recently so I thought I would ask.
Any plans or what is the status of fixing DXVA for Intel based platforms (e.g. Sandy Bridge)?
Thanks
Anyone able to provide any information? Thanks!

Are these changes going to make it to the trunk? They're great facelifts. It would be great if they did.
@v0lt and @bobdynlan: It'd be nice if you guys gave us updates once in a while :)

I'm having issues with keyboard shortcuts. For example I set pause to Ctrl-P but it does not respond at all. The cursor comes up but it does not pause. It was working fine until a few days ago. My system did not change but it still won't work. Also I have it set to open files in full screen, when in full screen I cannot right click or anything to get a menu, all I can do is exit (which the keyboard shortcut works for)

Try reassign 'Toggle Pixel Shaders' which is also set for Ctrl+P.
Try disable D3D Fullscreen mode if it is enabled. (View-> Options-> Output)

I have a HDTV capture which is 1440x1080. The DAR is 16:9, so the display width and height is 1920x1080.
When I use File->Save Image, is it possible to get the screenshot in 1920x1080 instead of 1440x1080 (without having to resize it in Photoshop later). The Snapshot option in VLC creates a 1920x1080 image.
I suppose it's up for debate which one it should be, just wondering if there's an option in MPC-HC.

@bigzaj: Since r2964 or something all commands in D3D Fullscreen are like if you tap two or three times. It's annoying for me too, but I haven't exactly found the source of that bug yet. Menus in exclusive mode will have to be made by someone familiar with D3D GUI items. It would be great to have some more controls in addition to only the seekbar.
@PlazzTT: The "Save Image" function only saves a partially rendered item from the mixer. To get a full render, right-click in the main window, set "Full Screen", wait for the mouse cursor to disappear and use the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard. That will capture a fully rendered picture. Depending on your rendering settings, it's in a better quality usually, too. To only enable aspect ratio correction, without fully resizing a picture, use "View", "Video Frame", "Normal Size" first.
You will have to paste the resulting item from the clipboard in an image editor. Most editors will feature an automatic clipping function for if there's any black bars.
If you are into color accurate processing of the images: disable the color management in MPC-HC, take the screenshot and assign a proper HDTV, NTSC, PAL/SECAM color profile on the saved image.
Improving the image saving functions is on my development wish list, but it's not priority (see my thread for reference). I did improve the speed a bit with the 10-, 16- and 32-bit color surface modes when saving images. I also have a screenspace image saving function template for during development, but that one won't convert images to 8-bit, and most people don't know what to do with .PFM or .DDS image files.

Nice icons:thanks:. Slight problem, I am getting the large icons OK, but most of my files are thumbnailed and for these I still get the old style MPC-HC icon in the bottom right corner, any advice how to fix? Also, the icon for the actual exe/shortcut is still old-style also.

I was hoping they looked good enough to be adopted into the project, but so far nothing has happened.
I'm not sure on the procedure. Who gets to decide what icon to use?

Hmm...
I'm sitting here with with two computers using Intel HD Graphics (ie built in graphics in first gen Core i3/i5 CPUs) with a rather interesting and somewhat annoying issue. About 95% of the time using EVR CP, EVR Sync or VMR-9 w/ 3D Surfaces MPC-HC tends to lag/stutter heavily when going full screen using a resolution above 1080p like 1920x1200 (this never occurs on 1080p or lower resolution). Sometimes it just works flawless which is very odd and a bit annoying since its not consistent. Resolution of the clip doesn't seem to matter and window mode always works just fine which makes me believe that it isn't a performance issue caused by video card or CPU. Both computers are connected with AC adaptor so they don't run on battery which may cause performance issues/throttling. Anyone else experiencing this? This occurs on two laptops (i3 and i5) running Win 7 SP1 and I've tried several different versions of video drivers without resolving the issue and both are running the newest driver available by Intel. Any suggestions on how to track this is issue down?

Hi all,
I found out what seems to be an MPC-HC bug.
First, I select madVR as the video renderer in the output page.
Next, If I select madVR as a preferred external filter, internal subtitle renderer will not work with it (madVR loads fine).
When not selecting it in the external filters list or selecting it as a blocked (!) filter, it loads and plays subtitles fine.
I'm pretty convinced it's something rather new as I'm quite sure it was selected as a preferred filter for me for quite some time.
Adam.

Loading MadVR and Haali renderers trough the internal renderer allocation unit is preferred. I can imagine that things become more complicated if you try to set these as an external filter. Not all interfaces might work.
Edit, just a development question:
Does anyone still use the "Regular offscreen plain surface" or "2D surfaces" options with VMR-9 r. (the two options are actually the same thing in the current implementation)? These are legacy options from VMR-7 r. to give VMR-9 r. very basic subtitle, OSD and stats screen support, without any of the more advanced rendering options (scalers, shaders, vsync options, et cetera). It's very dated and inefficient by now, as the unused items from the regular rendering path are still completely loaded. There hasn't been any maintenance on this rendering path anymore for years now.

Hey guys. I have another issue. I like to use auto switcher to match the fps to the refresh rate. However when playing back transport streams that are 29.97fps it initially switches to 60Hz on my HDTV (I have auto switch set to 59Hz NTSC but that's beside the point). But then it kinda detects the telecine after a moment and decimates the stream to 23.976fps. However the HDTV is now running at 60Hz and thus is not synced to the video fps.
Is there any way around this?
nevcairiel

No the switch only works on the info from the source filter, not anything the decoder does to the stream

Hello,
I have a problem with video rendering mode MadVR. Despite the choice of rendering mode I am still not able to call its instance. This "error" probably occurred on the version of MPC-Home Cinema 3110 (x86). In another player I have no problem running the video rendering mode MadVR. I tried to restore the default settings by deleting the settings file, deleting the entry from the registry, but it did not give satisfactory results. Using the built-in codecs solves the problem. If you use the ffdshow filter (set to download) I can not run rendering mode MadVR. Please refer to the problem.
FFdshow settings attached to this post.

There appears to be a bug in the MPC-HC MKV splitter (tested rev 3158) when used with CoreAVC 2.5.5 and VSFilter.dll, which breaks VSFilter's fps counter and causes slowdowns rendering complex subtitles. Enable VSFilter's statistics and you'll see what I mean. The VSFilter's framerate counter goes crazy, fluctuating between 0fps and 10000fps, when it should read something like 23.976fps.
MPC-HC MKV splitter, FFDShow, VSFilter = No bug.
Haali Media Splitter, CoreAVC, VSFilter = No bug.
This is a rather non-issue for me, since I always use Haali, but it should probably be fixed since it very well may effect the internal subtitle renderer as well with that same combo. In the meantime, people should be wary about using the MPC-HC internal MKV splitter with subtitles and CoreAVC.

Playing back the Big Buck Bunny clip 1 '1080p@24.0, 4:2:2 chroma, 70 Mbps CBR (with no zero stuffing) in a 73 Mbps Transport Stream' using either the internal MPEG2 decoder, LAV CUVID decoder or PowerDVD decoder results in garbled output. Using ffdshow as the decoder results in correct playback.
Can someone else test? I have tried different splitters and renderers and it makes no difference. Only ffdshow LIBMPEG2 seems to display it correctly.
EDIT: In the LAV CUVID thread they say it's the 4:2:2 chroma that is the issue here. Also that there should be a check for it since build 3123. Well I am using 3180 Madhi's build and it does not seem to work. I am not talking about DXVA decoding as obviously the hardware does not support it. But it does not decode it in software correctly either. Only ffdshow seems to. Not that I am bothered if MPC-HC stays broken since ffdshow works perfectly fine. Just thought I would report it as a bug ;)

Can we please add an icon_x64 cause since there already are logo.1_x64 logo.2_x64 logo.3_x64 it will be in the logic of things to have a icon_x64 too! not to mention that (I know I've said this before but I haven't got an (official) answer) it will really, really, help people with both version on their system (e.g. to distinguish between file association (x64 or x86 MPC-HC) before start playing the file)
Also in the same logic used for the logos we can use the same icon + an "x64" or we can use a totally different icon (I prefer the one from BE mod)
What do you say (tetsuo :) ) ?

I have two questions:
1. is there still someone working on VSfilter/directvobsub, is there a thread somewhere here?
2. regarding the title, would it be possible to add blu-ray subtitle support (PGS) for external files (.sup) which have the same name as the movie file (for mpc-hc and directvobsub/VSfilter)? (e.g. a mkv remux).
atm, it its necessary that these subs have to be muxed together with video and audio, otherwise they wont show. and it also seems that PGS subs are not supported at all by directvobsub atm?
nevcairiel
6th June 2011, 19:36
DirectVobSub supports PGS just fine, you just have to use a non-ancient version.
Also, why not just mux them into the mkv? :d

Whats wrong with muxing subtitles inside the MKV? If you use one of those automatic tools, thats what they'll do too.
Thunderbolt8
6th June 2011, 20:10
because usually I prefer OCRed subs, the pgs ones would only be a measure of last resort when running into non OCR-friendly subs. but I guess I could do that, as long as they are not automatically enabled by default.
DirectVobSub supports PGS just fine, you just have to use a non-ancient version.thats strange. in which situation, only when they are muxed inside the .mkv or also outside? Im using DirectVobSub_2.40.3164_x86 and they dont work for me.

MUXING, ok, sorry, misread what you said. Man this cold needs to go away so I can stop taking cold medicine! :) Yes, muxing's good. Burning them into the video is not! :p
Thunderbolt8
6th June 2011, 21:12
ok, tried a bit more and indeed, both directvobsub and the mpc-hc filter play PGS subs outside of .m2ts files, but only if they are muxed into the .mkv - not as external files, whereas both play other externals subs like .srt and .ass fine.
so it would be nice if external PGS support could be added as well for both.

You can still seek when playback is stopped and as the seekbar is enable, the tooltip shows up. I am not quite sure to understand why we can still seek when the playback is stopped ... What do you think ? I may add a special behavior not to show the tooltip in this case but I would rather follow the behavior of the seekbar. In personally not against changing the behavior of the toolbar if people think it would be better.

I hope to post a Hebrew translation for MPC-HC tomorrow. I'm almost done.
Something I've noticed: the whole "translate the rc file" way is ugly, hard, and annoying. Many (many!) strings are repeating themselves. Not all strings are in string tables (which are indeed easier to translate). There must be a better way.
Also, I wanted to ask: would it be possible to set the RTL window flag when using the Hebrew translation (and other future RTL languages)?

it seems to go hand in hand the use of it and chroma upsampling shaders, idk if that is a coincedance or if it's necessary.

Something I've noticed: the whole "translate the rc file" way is ugly, hard, and annoying.
You are not supposed to translate the RC file but only the text file which contains only the strings (in the text folder, you can find mplayerc.rc.txt which is the base you should have used). It is not a big deal but for next time use the text file which will correspond to your translation).
These strings are never used and duplicated. I can delete them all or half only.

@mindbomb: For nVidia hardware a bilinear filter is forced. For 8-bit working surfaces on ATi hardware a bilinear filter is used by choice (hardcoded in the rendering engine), 10- 16- and 32-bit working surfaces are unfiltered (nearest neighbor). For Intel hardware, I don't know exactly what the last generation and the one before that do. Intel IGPs became DirectX 10+ only recently, that's one of the reasons there are differences in the two generations.
To integrate a custom mixer so that the rendering engine can work with raw data from a DirectShow video decoder is no small effort. I don't have much experience with actual DirectShow stuff, and we could really use some extra developers to help with those parts. Unless a mixer is added, there's unfortunately no way to access the raw Y'CbCr structures directly from the decoder in the rendering engine.
Also note that the chroma up-sampling shaders won't work on interlaced content. (A modified version for the vertical 4:2:0 part could actually work by using the forced wave deinterlacer. That deinterlacer doesn't do more than writing the top and bottom field to one progressive frame, so it halves the field rate. It's a popular, but very bitrate inefficient way to transport near-progressive 1920×1080 frames inside interlaced 1920×540 fields.)
