A workaround might be to convert the SSA to ASS format using Subtitle Workshop. I dunno if this will break karaoke subs though.
ok you nailed it! works like a charm
actually vobsub can override the vertical placement of SRT subs, but not ASS/SSA because they also contain size/font/placement
I followed your advice, converting to SRT with that app, and it works perfectly fine :thanks:

Has Clsid mpc version the same bug?
If you give me specific version number and link to Win32 executable, I'll be happy to test it for that problem.

MS dvd navigator has an issue with some dvd's? All mpc versions and wmp11 use that dvd navigator.

I did an experimental build that uses Cyberlink's dvd navigator, Nero or Windvd.

But I haven't looked into it very much, which is why I don't have any detailed bug reports.

GeForce 8800GTS/GTX and all GeForce 7 models can only do motion compensation and iDCT using DXVA, none supported by internal h.264/vc-1 decoder.
Ati HD3850, AMD Hybrid CrossFireX™ 780Gsupports hardware decoding of H.264/AVC and VC-1 videos included bitstream processing/entropy used by internal h.264/vc-1 decoder.

Hi,
Every now and then, I compile x64 standalone versions of MatroskaSplitter.ax and MPCVideoDec.ax hoping that eventually one will enable h264-DXVA (on 8800GT) seamless in Vista Media Center. Last revision was 490, which worked splendid with most matroska files (apart from some nuisances -- skipping forward/backward in WMP/VMC does not work and crashes the playback, some files just don't play...).
However, after having compiled revision 493, playback is completely broken. Revision 493 of mplayer.exe (x64) works fine-apart from the aforementioned nuisances.
I have seen a lot of changes in the h264/DXVA source code, but have now idea what could have broken playback - I do not have much experience with programming. Any suggestions?

Hello there,
What a big thread - did I understand correctly: on my NVidia 8700M GT I have no way of using DXVA with MPC HC? I installed the latest build and checked with an DXVA Checker (which tells me there are corresponding video modes available) but when playing an H.264 Matroska File MPC keeps telling me it is "not using" DXVA even though enabled (Forceware 174.60). It is possible for me to play 1080p Content but CPU Usage is near 80-90% - so not much of a reserve and I thought with MPC HC it would play with much lower CPU Usage... Is there nothing to be done about it - could later MPC HC Builds make use of my GPU? Thanks for your advice....

Hi,
so to sum it up, it is not possible at the moment to get DXVA to work with a Geforce 8800GT, although the card theoretically supports it with h264 content, did I get that right? Is it right that previous versions of MPlayerHC did support it?
Btw, in my other PC, I have a Geforce 6600GT GPU, what about this one, is it suitable for using DXVA with h264 files?

For those who use MPC-HC, but don't have a GPU that supports hardware acceleration:
There is a new version today of CoreAVC Pro 1.7 that fixes all reported bugs, and balances multiple core usage.

8800gt does do dxva with MPC-HC. however, i find out MPC-HC internal h264 decoder is more compatible with ati card than nv card. same trend with powerdvd h264 decoder.

1. What can cause stuttering in MPCHC when using Cyberlink H264 decoder. It plays fine for some time and then starts to stutter.
There are no such problems with different decoders.
2. How many users of 8800gt here can use internal DXVA in MPCHC on Vista?

What that shader does is incorrect, it doesn't apply proper RGB weighting like procamp does.
Incidentally, if you #define ymin (16.0/255.0 + 0.075) you get the correct black point for NTSC-J. Helps make the animes look right.

I thought I'd add my own experiences:
I'm running MPC HC x64 on Vista Ultimate x64 with a 8800GT.
The x64 version available on the official MPC HC page (the one that's linked to on the first page) simply doesn't work for any of my h.264 videos.
I get a black screen that's stuck on the 0:00 position (I can seek, though, but the timer stays on the position I move it to and the screen stays black)
I then tried build 492 someone linked to on page 81. With this build my h.264 videos actually started working, though they're still not working correctly.
- A small minority works fine and shows "H.264 bitstream decoder, no FGT" under MPC Video decoder DXVA properties.
- One video looks horribly blocky, kind of like a very, very low quality jpg file. Seeking also doesn't work as the screen goes black when I try that. Had no problems whatsoever using ffdshow.
- MANY h.264 encoded videos (most of my anime, for some reason) work but DXVA doesn't seem to want to kick in. I simply get the "not using DXVA" message.
Now, I suppose you'll need more info to determine the cause of this problem but I don't really know what info I need to provide exactly. So don't hesitate to ask.
Oh, and if someone found a workaround for (some of) these problems, by all means... :)
Who Am I?
18th April 2008, 14:59
I got the same problem. I use Win XP Pro x64, build 492 and a 8600GTS with latest drivers.
Some examples, movie is I Robot at 1080p x264:

But I also have one which is 1920×1080 big and no matter what I try mpc-hc just says "Not using DXVA". Is this the expected behaviour?
