yeah the hotfix doesn't help with my 3650AGP either
I'm going to try some different drivers to see if I can find one that can manage to play more than 3 files I have without corruption...

well I fixed my stuttering problem by overclocking my AGP bus a little, still getting random corruption though

Can I help by checking fast writes status without installing catalyst or powerstrip? I've got an Asus HD3650 AGP which works just fine with DXVA in MPC-HC, using catalyst 8.7 in Vista (no corruption or stutter, ever).

The problem only occurs in Win XP and VMR9. I only tested Catalyst 8.3, 8.4, 8.5, 8.6, 8.9, 8.10.... so i could theoretically still try 8.7 and 8.8.... but i doubt they make any difference. Something is wrong with initialization of VMR9 in conjunction with DXVA. It could be the ati-driver, mpc-hc (as powerdvd works) or WinXP's VMR9....
WinXP users should use VMR7 or Overlay with DXVA - this works fine! But this also means: no subtitles, no shaders in MPC HC. This leaves Powerdvd as the only option for subtitles...

maybe its time for a reinstall to figure this out...

AGP fast write usually doesn't enhance performance much, with some testing I only found that gives 1% improvement in performance. I keep it disabled by default because it has a tendency to make systems unstable, especially when overclocking. :) In other words, no big loss if you keep it disabled...

You cannot use DXVA with VMR7 in MPCHCs internal filters. I don't know why but MPCHC doesn't allow VMR 7 with DXVA. BUT: It works fine in Zoomplayer with the external MPC-Videodecoder. One added benefit of VMR7 is that you get a properly filtered chroma-channel, no tearing and it works with reclock.
regards,
Casshern
P.S.: The performance loss of disabling AGP Fast Write depends on the applications. In general benchmarks it might only figure for 1% but in video-applications it is more. I never had any stability problems using it, and it is enabled by default. Even if you could tolerate the performance loss, the fact remains that the problem is only reduced but not gone!

Since ffdshow support for the new HD codecs (TrueHD and E-AC3) is almost finished, what about support for those inside .EVO files? Currently, neither mpc internal splitter or haali media splitter supports TrueHD inside EVO. :(

Could reclock be your problem? I just installed Reclock (1.6) for the first time on my Win XP but when opening a file with MPC-HC I got a reclock error saying it was not compatible with my video card (driver). I'm currently using 2600 AGP with catalyst 8.9 hotfix. AFAIK reclock is only used by MPC and not Powerdvd, so possibly it's the cause of DXVA/VRM9 not being initialised properly by MPC-HC on your system?
Good luck,
Pete

Reclock works fine here - with VMR7 and VMR9. The problem remains even without reclock. The causes of the problem lie in the interaction of:
1) Ati display driver
2) Microsofts VMR9
3) Initialization of the DXVA engine by MPC

Hi there!
I just tested the latest SVN build (1.1.841.0) and I'm wondering about certain issues I've seen with the EVR and Haali renderers. When I skip frames to another part of the video, audio is immediately played even though the video hasn't been displayed yet (possibly from the decoder is still recomputing from the nearest I frames?). This becomes a bit bothersome since the video then speeds up playback for a short bit to resynchronize with the audio. The problem is dominant in higher bitrate segments (requiring more buffering and processing) and is more apparent using the EVR renderer. The same problem occurs with the Haali renderer except at less instances. However, when using VMR the audio pauses for a bit while waiting for the video to update.
IMO the VMR behavior is more desirable considering some people tend to skip by a few frames at a time to jump to specific parts of a video or move back. I think waiting for a split second is better than seeing a bunch of frames in fast playback. Can anything be done about this or is this inherent in those rendering modes? Those rendering modes look better than VMR so it'd be really great to have a solution to this issue. Thanks!
P.S. By the way, a friend of mine tested it and the same thing happens. He runs a 1.1.796.0 build.

+1. Noticed this issue too. It happens sometimes.
And now... for a major one...
Using 1.1.841.0 (tested both x86 and x64 from xvidvideo.ru), I see some major pixelation when seeking a x264 video. I use the regular EVR renderer, Vista x64+SP1, GeForce 8800GT w/ Forceware 178.24, ffdshow tryouts rev2240 (both x86 and x64 from xvidvideo.ru; used for both audio and video decoding).

I would also like to see an option to have MPC-HC pause if minimized.
Only two features I miss from other players at the moment.

hi there
in the standard MPC I could drag+drop a video_ts folder on the MPC icon, and then it would play.
on MPC HC, it opens the window and then... nothing.
is this supported in MPCHC, or did I miss a setting or something?
(using MPCHC from the latest CCCP pack)

For me Zoom Player + FLVSplitter.ax FLV does not reproduce.
It appears not to blame FLVSplitter.ax, a problem in the Zoom Player. MPCVideoDec.ax + FLVSplitter.ax + Zoom Player excellent plays FLV files.

With all recent versions of MPC-HC, playing a BBC HD H.264 TS file with the internal MPC DXVA decoder on an 8600GT XP setup results in playback that constantly jumps backwards (ie it looks like some frames get delayed in presentation until after their timestamps, resulting in motion going backwards for a frame and reverse ghost images).
Disabling DXVA results in smooth playback, but at high CPU usage.
Disabling IVTC in the Nvidia control panel seems to have no effect on the issue.
Does anyone know what might be causing this and a workaround or fix?
I'm wondering if the material is actually interlaced and the DXVA decoder can't handle it.

Hi,
Since Media Player Classic (patched build) is no longer in development, I will have to switch to MPC-HC.
Here are my first impressions and reports:
- View -> Information does nothing. I tried with different files open.
- In the Options menu -> Formats there is a "Image file" item. If I want MPC-HC to be my default player, I will associate all file types by pressing the "All" button. This makes image files open with a media player which isn't that good. Who opens image files with MPC-HC anyway?
I would have a small suggestion:
- If I want to quickly install MPC-HC and make it the default player. This can be done with a SFX archive and using the "/regaud" and "/regvid" switches. But I want it to be the default player for playlists and to appear on the autoplay menu too. Using the GUI, this can be done by pressing the "All" button in the "Formats" page. I don't think it will hurt to have a switch like "/regall" to do the same thing from the command line.

1/ you have to know which files to play. To do that, you can use eac3to. This tool displays some infos from BD.
2/ Create a playlist according to the infos provided by eac3to.

If you have 2 optical drives, first drive is empty, second drive has a dvd, then when you click "file-->open dvd", the dvd will not load. In the older patched build of mpc, mpc would automatically open the dvd in the second drive. Can this be fixed?

Currently MPC will always replace the file type icon whenever you make a change to the file associations. It would be very useful if MPC would keep an existing icon value in the registry if it points to an existing icon.

How can I fix this? I think it occurred after I installed a new harddrive in my notebook and therefore reformatted and reinstalled everything (clean install, not the recovery disks). I have a Sony Vaio FW11S with Vista 32bit Home Premium, Ati Radeon HD3470 videocard. I remember the same file worked on my old hard drive, which was slower! (4200 rpm vs. 7200 rpm now). On that HD I had the original Vaio Windows with bloatware.
If i play the file in Windows Mediaplayer (which I guess uses FFDShow or CoreAVC decoder) the audio lags.
What can I do to fix this?
