So, if I understand correctly this means that MPC-HC's EVR custom presenter handling / implementation
will have to be updated / modified for black levels to be right (i.e. 0-255 expansion to PC levels) ???
---> @ Casimir: Am I correct ?
No : EVR custom didn't do any level adjustement.

How do i disable DirectVOBSub between the decoder and rendered without uninstalling it? Think that's what's stopping the DXVa working!
Thanks

Options -> External Filter -> add "DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)" and block it.
Rectal Prolapse
25th March 2008, 22:33
Yeah - Haali can load DirectVobSub automatically - check the Haali Media Splitter options. Sometimes it gets loaded even if you tell Haali not to, so you would have to follow clsid's instructions.

thank you very much on the nice DXVA-support. Somehow I have the feeling that it even works with the Intel G35. Is this possible?
One minor problem occurs: The Samsung-Demo "Samsung.Demo.Oceanic.Life.x264.1080p.40Mbps.mkv" does not start playing with H264-DXVA enabled.

DXVA working fine with my HD2600 Pro too! The only issue I have is that most of the MKVs I am testing will show less artifacts (interlaced issue? where the diagonal line will have that stairstep look) when I use FFDSHOW which of course kills DXVA.
I have tried different deinterlacing options and they dont fix what I am seeing so maybe is something else....

Is this also corrupted for other 8800GT users aswell (Somekind of strange noise gets applied with VMR9 Windowed and MPC-HC DXVA Decoder on my 8800GT it isn't the case with Cyberlinks Decoder.

I'm on Vista x64 and I updated to Service Pack 1 yesterday. When I loaded up some videos to watch today in the latest 32-bit version of MPC HC, the side black bars I got with 4:3 content were pure black, but the blacks in my videos turned to a lighter black. This is when I'm using EVR custom pres. With normal EVR my side bars turn the same colour as the blacks in my video but they are both not pure black. Before upgrading to SP1, with EVR custom pres, both the blacks in my video and the side bars were pure black.
Thanks again for the link cca! Just updated my 8600M GT drivers to 174.31 and now normal EVR works perfectly! Blacks are black for both the side bars and the video! However, EVR custom pres is still the same as before.
No : EVR custom didn't do any level adjustement.
As far as I understand it from the above quoted posts,
EVR-Standard is OK now with SP1 + the recent nVidia drivers,
i.e. real black sidebars and real blacks in the video.
In the past that used to be broken.
But what about EVR-Custom ?
From the above reports, the blacks in the video seemed
OK in the past before the SP1+Driver update, but now they are
washed-out (i.e. broken).
In other words:
In the past:
EVR: Washed-Out blacks (Sidebars+Video)
EVR-Custom: OK
Now:
EVR: OK
EVR-Custom: Washed-Out (Video Only)
So, how to get correct PC Screen (0-255) Black Levels in the Video now with
EVR-Custom and Vista SP1+Latest nVidia drivers ????
Maybe EVR-Custom would have to do level adjustment now ;)
(???)
@ Casimir: Is there any chance of getting the EVR-Custom
behaviour changed so that the black levels are consistent
with the "new & fixed behaviour" of EVR-Normal (i.e. the same 0-255 levels) ?
:thanks:
All the best,
raynor

Hi raynor,
I use EVR custom with Vista x64 SP1.
On projector I have setup HDMI standard (16-245 level).
On PC monitor I have just to enable the shader called "16-245 -> 0-255" which convert black level for my pc monitor.

Agree + 1
After SP1 update on vista while using EVR-Custom, I change my TV settings to 'blacker' levels (there are two settings I can use with Samsung LCD - normal black and low blacks where 'low black' is probably PC Setting/blacker. So thats the switch. If I use EVR standard there is no need for that, can use 'normal black'.

1. Anybody tried Cyberlink powerdvd version 8? especially tried the H264 codec to play 720p/1080p encodes using MPC-HC (evr custom), any significant improvement and so also comment on DXVA/HA.
2. WinDVD 9 plays most 720/1080p encodes if you convert .mkv extension to .avi. How can we import the appropriate codec into MPC-HC? since this will help with subtitles (EVR custom). I looked for the codec which does play those encodes (windvd 9) but unable to find and dont know what codec does that.

Whatever I try I can't make MPC-HC to display external subtitle on a DVD.
It doesn't display anything also it loads fine, opening subresync, I can see the redline on the good subtitle texte.
Last build rev 482, doesn't change anything.
Can somebody help me, or is this a bug ?

Using a 9600gt with DXVA, I observe blocking issues like the ones in the screenshot when max number of reference frames is 1 greater than what it should be at a particular resolution. Not sure if that's what is occurring or a particular issue that's ATI related, but perhaps something you should look into.

I think the blocking Problme can be caused by to large MotionVectoRange (mvrange) from x264 encoding Settings
It wasa Problme with x264 Builds under 663.
Try to use CoreAVC or ffdshow on this Files and see if you get the same Blocking.
Would be really nice if mpc-hc support x264 with large MV.

To compile you need:
* MSVC 2005
* Windows SDK 6.0
* BaseClasses SDK 6.0
* DirectX SDK (august 2007)
I read but, I wonder if Windows SDK 6.0 means platform sdk 6.0?

unfortunately this will only work in software mode for Hardware there is no way to fix this and Casimir666 can't rewrite the Decoder cores (tough i think they have their own Firmware that gets loaded from the Driver itself onto the card) ;)

I think it should be this one (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ff6467e6-5bba-4bf5-b562-9199be864d29&DisplayLang=en). There's no Windows SDK with "6.0" in the filename, but I think the "6000" part is what you actually have to look for...

I have to agree with Raynor regarding the EVR custom and black levels issue. EVR custom is washed out at the moment, only option for decent colour is Haali now. EVR normal sucks too, because the Video has normal blacks, but the black bars are NOT black but grey. It is annoying to watch video like this.
By the way, EVR normal is fine with Zoom Player for example, black bars are black. The problem is in MPC-HC.

you can also fix these calibrating the video levels via the tools that come with your gfx card for the different renderer, tough i don't know if that works for EVR it does for VMR9/7 with Nvidias Control Panel + calibrating Gama levels and ACE fallof (on the monitor if available) is also a usable thing :)

bwahn, I think you also need to compile the Baseclasses.
Simplest way is to copy only the .cpp and .h files from the SDK's Baseclasses' directory into the baseclasses directory of the mpc-hc trunk (it should already be existing and have a Visual Studio project inside it but no source code files). Then in Visual Studio build the Baseclasses project in the MPC-HC solution.
Hopefully that will be enough to get it to link.
You MIGHT need to compile a gcc version of the libavcodec library. We'll worry about that when you get there - I didn't bother and built the MPC decoder myself and changed the linkage.

This is certainly not the case because i am talking about original HDDVD and Bluray streams
there was talk in the coreavc thread about a bunch of BDs having out of range motion vectors so I wouldn't rule it out

that might be true but the coruption happens in VC1 files too, so it cannot be related to the motion vectors, the corruption is only visable in mpc-hc and nowhere else, so its definately a prblem with mpc=hc's dxva decoder
some example's are
X-men 3 bluray
Corpse Bride bluray

using forceware 174.20 on 8800gtx card, EVR (vista / .net3) selected and dxva acceleration checked on mpcvideocodec is not giving me dxva acceleration
tried using custom evo and i get a black screen with sound that stops after a few secs. i did something stupid and unchecked something on mpc video decoder options and then i couldnt make it show up unless i added it manually from the filters that were posted earlier.
today i reinstalled codecs, made ffdshow not play h264, blocked core avc and cyberlink codecs from mpc, and now mpc video decoder shows again (with low merit next to it, i cant seem to find how to set it to normal again)
but still on a video file with L4.1 encoding i cant seem to get dxva acceleration (using vista 32bit sp1)

8800gtx not support VLD for H264. So you can't use dxva with 8800gtx on mpc-hc.

Using Nvidia 8600gt, cyberlink decoder, vista 32
With new version of NVIDIA drivers: any escape from crushed blacks and whites? with EVR Custom/DXVA.

today i reinstalled codecs
You don't "install codecs", you install decoders.
Just like you don't "install pavement on your car", you install tires on your car.

Was wondering any1 having the same problem as me.
I play a MTV.mp4(Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 512x384 15.00fps Audio: AAC 22050Hz stereo 56Kbps) for awhile and stopped(did not close). Then I play it again, but this time the clip fail to play at all. I m using mpc-hc(r482), vista home 32, GT8600 (169.25), EVR custom, DXVA is enabled. No problem when DXVA is disable. Thanks.

With MS (Vista SP1) and nVidia (latest drivers) having
(finally, after more than one year) done their homework,
I think that really all that is missing is an adjustment of
MPCHC's EVR renderers (above all EVR-custom, as this
is the most useful) in order to get correct black levels (0-255)
for PC screens.
Judging from reports, even Windows Media Player (yuck!) has correct
black levels now (I believe it is using EVR with Vista)
Again, this dreaded issue has been going on for way too long,
so the opportunity should be seized to finally get rid of it,
hopefully for good.

Is the internal h264 DXVA filter support h264 sar(Sample Aspect Ratio)?
I tested some h264 videos, all files are DXVA compatible encoded.
h264 with SAR = DXVA is working.
h264 without SAR = DXVA is not working.

SAR is supported but not all aspect ratios are DXVA compatible, seems like you are using an incompatible SAR

On many DVDs in the main movie, the seeking doesn't seem to work. That is, if you click somewhere on the seekbar, nothing happens, the cursor just jumps back. Also sometimes (on the same discs?) when I change chapter, the chapter will change but the cursor on the seekbar will not move, it will stay at the beginning, so you can't see how far in the movie you are..
Is this a known bug and in that case is there a fix?
No-one has seen this problem? I use the internal filters.
