Fixed: Strip the non-core info from DTS-HD tracks until a decoder is available. Fixes problems with SPDIFer.
Would you please add an option for this? It isn't broken on my system.
There are software decoders for DTS-HD, do you mean that you are using one of these (like arcsoft)?

No, I'm not - I'm looking to purchase an HDMI capable receiver. I have an ati 4850, and will get the new auzentech solution if it ever comes out.

I have played dozens of videos with unaltered dts-ma audio streamed to my current receiver using SPDIFER, and they already work. The built-in DTS 1536 -> SPDIF doesn't work for me and for others, and we've been using SPDIFER as a work-around ever since. That needs to be fixed.

Adding a work-around for his system/device/os/driver combination is okay, but make it optional, as it isn't necessary for others. If this kludge code is enabled, it won't come out, except by him. Then I won't have a chance of bitstreaming or decoding it.

Finally, we are at the beginning of a new development cycle, with a new OS coming out, a new framework, better audio cards & video solutions... we even have a working freeware Dolby TrueHD decoder now. Who knows what will be possible in 12 months?

1. I use SPDIF:er for the exact same reason.
2. I have debugged SPDIF:er and determined why it's not working. It has nothing to do with my drivers.
3. Please give me an example where a DTS-HD track works with SPDIF:er.
4. I'm getting all solutions that has any chance of bitstreaming DTS-HD tracks to my receiver. You won't have to worry about not supporting it.
5. I'm thinking of integrating SPDIF:er in MPC-HC, at which time I will fix SPDIF:er instead. With an option to strip the data.

I'm not sure what you mean.

First SPDIFER does not even know DTS-MA exists, besides DTS-MA only works with hdmi1.3 which your videocard does not have.
Secondly, because you actually do have audio your audio decoder must be doing the stripping for you.

What do you mean with:
The built-in DTS 1536 -> SPDIF?
(I use ffdshow for all my audio decoding)

5. I'm thinking of integrating SPDIF:er in MPC-HC, at which time I will fix SPDIF:er instead. With an option to strip the data.

Yeah i think that is the best way forward.
We should be able to send all audio codecs with hardware-decoding support over either SPDIF or HDMI, and all stripable audio codecs should be optionally stripable for SPDIF/HDMI1.2 or lower

That may be, I don't know.

What do you mean with:
The built-in DTS 1536 -> SPDIF?

The audio stream is dts encoded at 1536 kbps, with mpc-hc dts transform enabled and "DTS Decoder" option set to SPDIF. This does not work, with dts streams on dvds, or with dts-ma streams. This does not work with my realtek or c-media devices. (ac3 works fine) The result is the signal cuts in and out, the audio repeats in 1 second intervals, I get loud BANGS...

But I can pass dts using spdifer.

PS - I'm not trying to annoy.:o

3. Please give me an example where a DTS-HD track works with SPDIF:er.Ooh, sorry if you got the impression that I was decoding the -HD info anywhere, I'm not, my receiver is DTS capable.

What I'm saying, is that I'm not testing out your version on my HTPC yet. With MPC-HC the following works:

(mkv, .ts, .m2ts with DTS-MA & DTS core)->internal or Haali splitter->SPDIFer->Default DirectSound Device (Auzentech XPlosion c-media card or on-board Realtek HDA) -> optical cable -> Pioneer 1015TX receiver DTS is received light.

SPDIFer options:
"SPDIF passthrough" AC3 & DTS checked
"SPDIF/DTS mode" set to Auto
"SPDIF/DTS conversion" set to "Do not convert"
"SPDIF options" Restrict SPDIF sample rate to 48 Hz set (necessary for Realtek, not for the c-media board).

MPC-HC - DTS source filter enabled, DTS transform filter disabled

I've watched BD rips with DTS-MA made using tsMuxer, mkvmerge, and also the original .m2ts (using anydvd) streamed across my network.

I've got the drivers installed for the realtek hdmi audio on the ATI 4850, but haven't tried it out. I'm waiting for the next generation HDMI receivers to come out.

I am assume what you mean here is that you want to replace MPC-HC's SPDIF code with the open source code from the SPDIFER project - is that correct ?

If so, while that would give MPC-HC better working audio, you would still have a divergence as soon as the SPDIFER project releases a new version.

The point here is that using the SPDIFER code is an acknowledgement that the idea of "internal built-in filters" is flawed.

It requires MPC-HC developers to maintain code unnecessarily.

MPC-HC should have no internal filters, but should make available a package of filters - including the DXVA filters created by MPC-HC developers - but also including open source filters created elsewhere, when they are preferable, such as AC3FILTER & SPDIFER for audio.

The problem I see with the SPDIFER project is that it seems to be dead. The last release was 2007 and from what I can see the source code isn't even available in CVS, so it seems hard to contribute my fixes to that project.

DTS pass-through playback is broken out of the box with MPC-HC which I don't think is acceptable. We either need SPDIFer or some other fix for this issue. I'm not sure at what layer I would like the code to be. The options at the moment seem to be:

* As a separate filter.
* As part of the DTS decoder.
* As part of a built in sound renderer (yet to be written).

Have the same "Bangs" here with DTS Decoder set to Spdif out.

Realtec onboard sound ALC 882 with 2.14 drivers. Receiver is able to decode DTS. With ffdshow or AC3filter set to Spdif everything is OK. Maybe they transcode to a lower bitrate? FFdshow does not show anything on infopage while using spdif.

MPC-HC should have no internal filters

I think the idea if MPC HC is to provide a player capable of playing most A/V without resorting to external filters (using DirectX) but but also being able to use external filters to extend the player's capability unlike VLC.

Aleksoid1978

One, but sometimes two, and there was a problem when changing the player between monitors with shaders enabled. Beliyaal fixed it, and it also fixed this on/off issue. But your fix works regardless :)

When move player's window from one monitor to other with shaders enabled - need to deactivate and then activate shaders or give black screen and no video.

I think the idea if MPC HC is to provide a player capable of playing most A/V without resorting to external filters (using DirectX) but but also being able to use external filters to extend the player's capability unlike VLC.

But, just taking an external filter and pasting its code into MPC-HC makes the difference between "internal" and "external" meaningless. You might as well "bundle" the filters into the download and allow the user to install them or not (cf Zoom Player).

In fact, as noted a few days back, Haali Splitter only works right with two audio streams if the audio filters are external.

The main point is that in order to have internal filters for everything, you have to constantly maintain many different pieces of code. That is not really workable for a relatively small open source project - some things end up not working, which is currently the case with the internal audio and the internal splitter.

If you just provide a bundle of filters, then whenever you have a filter by the same developers that works well, such as the DXVA filters, then you include that instead of some other filter. But when the filters that are part of the same project are not currently working, then you can just include some other filter in the bundle (like Haali Splitter or AC3FILTER).

SPDIFER is a subset of AC3FILTER, for those who only use SPDIF.

AC3FILTER was last updated in July 2008, which is also the date of the last post by the author in its Forum.

What problem have you found with SPDIFER that needs fixing ?

I though we were talking about SPDIFER which hasn't been updated recently, not AC3FILTER which is a little bloated.

But anyway, the bug is that neither SPDIFER nor AC3FILTER can handle DTS-HD streams.

First, if true, that would not be a "bug". I have a 15 year old TV that does not handle HD TV, but that is not a "bug", it is just not designed for that.

Second, 73ChargerFan posts above that he uses SPDIFER with DTS-HD streams and they work fine. Since SP/DIF connections cannot handle 6 channels of lossless audio, all it needs to do is pass the core and he says that it does so.

Nobody else beside me has problems playing DTS-HD XLL lossless streams starting with SVN 984 ?

I mean the only way I can play those XLL streams is if MPC-HC starts playing them first (from the beginning), but if I change to the other stream type (e.g. AC3) when I change back to the DTS-HD XLL lossless stream I'm losing the sound and if I'm switching again to the other stream type (e.g. AC3) I have sound but the video starts acting strange (accelerated) And if MPC-HC starts playing with the other stream type I CAN'T play the DTS-HD XLL lossless stream at all

:helpful:

P.S. SVN 983 it's working OK DTS-HD XLL Sample1 50MB (http://rapidshare.com/files/185566143/TEST.m2ts.html), DTS-HD XLL Sample2 100MB (http://rapidshare.com/files/190091030/BARAKA.m2ts.html), DTS-HD XLL Sample3 100MB (http://rapidshare.com/files/190095940/CHRONOS.m2ts.html)

Since in another thread someone asked why the VMR9 color controls didn't seem to do anything even when using the VMR9 renderer - wouldn't it make sense to make those sliders configure (and use, like is already done with shader scaling) the "procamp" shader instead?

So, we will need 73ChargerFan to report what the SPDIFER stream info screen says when he is successfully playing back DTS-HD - if it does not have the same error report as you show in your screenshot, then one might conclude a difference in how the .mts file is encoded/created.

I am getting tearing with the newest fix v7. But not with the old and stable version from sourceforge; MPC-HC v1.2.908.0 / 32 bits from nov 29th 2008.
I have played several releases and everyone of them tears with versions from 2009 overall.

geforce 8300 onboard
newest gforce drivers
vista aero
reclock 1.8.3.2 beta

I cant make tearing test nor ctrl-J information to show up either. What could be the matter here? (I get the tearingtest to appear in the nov 29th ver.) I have the latest DirectX 10 installed into my vista Ultimate with the latest updates installed.

thanks for the great work on this project.

Guys I use arcsoft tmt audio decoder with MPC-HC..can I get full dolby true and dts-hd from all my blurays and full rips?
I am going to be using analog output to take advantage of my new x-fi card so based on what Ive read I think I am right to think so but just in case.
Also, if there is a way to reset all the filters back to default...or pretty much clean all up as to start over with mpc-hc, please let me know cause mine got messed up and while I got it back working I still cant figure how to get audio from Kung Fu panda for example....it starts playing and a few seconds after that it goes silent.
It happens with all mpc-hc versions.

Is it possible to add postprocessing to the internal h.264
decoder ?

Lower quality h.264 videos are always quite "blocky",
so postprocessing similar to what the "official" xvid.org and
divx.com decoders offer would be a very welcome addition...

Maybe a slider to select the postprocessing level could be
added to the decoder properties page?

Deblocking is integral to the standard and not meant to be disabled yet some decoders allow it. You should find it functioning normally with MPC-HC ffmpeg unless purposely disabled. If still blocky then chances are the video is simply too low of a bitrate for the resolution and cannot be improved with additional processing.

i see you asked about mpeg2 in that thread. are you planing to add a mpeg2 vld decoder to mpchc? i know there aren't many mpeg2 blu-rays around but they are still pretty hard to play

Hi DrNein, are you talking about MPC-HC's internal,
"integrated" decoder (which is based on ffmpeg AFAIK)?

Yes. The setting can be confirmed from its property page during playback or by double-clicking on its listing(s) under internal filters.

What is the bitrate and resolution of the blocky files referred to? 10Mbps is something of a lower limit for 1080 before quality really suffers. 15Mbps and higher is preferred.

I'm using build 967 and notice something odd: when I choose file > open file, and click browse... it opens the folder that was browsed last (like quick open file), rather than the folder where the current file selected in the drop down list is. I prefer the second behavior, since the first is already available with the quick open command.

I'm using windows 7 beta. Not sure if this is a w7 peculiarity or this is a recent change.

edit: this seems like a win7 thing. I tried an old build by gabest and it's exhibiting the same behavior.

If some avsforum posts I've read are correct, Catalyst 9.1 broke DXVA.

Still works with Cyberlink for me.

The Cyberlink filter still works with MPC-HC if you have Catalyst 9.1?

Can you post a DXVA Checker screenshot with the Catalyst 9.1 here?

Maybe this will help finding wat broke the video decoder.
With:
Windows 7 beta 64-bit
MPC-HC build 983 x86 and MPC-HC build 987 x86
Ati catalyst 9.1
Ati IGP 3200

Everything still works, including hardware acceleration.

I think DXVA not work with 9.1 only on WinXP

In reference to my previous message, has anyone ever managed to get the internal mastroska splitter to connect to dvobsub+coreavc/ffdshow(with both internal and external subtitles)?
