Regarding the ATI Catalyst 9.2 issue, I guess it's time activate the 16-235 -> 0-255 [SD][HD] shader, it's the easier workaround I guess.
No, i rather have the driver use the right colorspace conversion than fixing it at a later stage. I mean, it could be that the darkest and brightest steps are just left out instead of it being compressed to TV levels, so then you'd lose quality by just expanding it later. I don't know really. But i feel that the driver fix is the better solution.

Good luck convincing ATI then. I would just like to say that this driver behavior is similar to the Nvidia drivers before they added the options to adjust dynamic range.
Also to emphasize, it ONLY happens with EVR Custom, ALL the other renderers work as with the previous driver versions, including normal EVR.

It just doesn't make sense that they would deliberately mess with that for 9.2. I'm sure it's fixable somehow, just like those crashes and black screen problems with Catalyst 8.11 and EVR custom. A new MPC HC came out and everything worked fine again.

Exactly ! since it's happening only with MPC-HC and only with EVR custom maybe it's NOT (just) the driver
Can any of the devs take a look at this PLEASE :helpful:

I was wondering, what's the mp3 decoder in Gabest's MPEG Audio decoder please?
http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc/trunk/src/filters/transform/mpadecfilter/?pathrev=969
libmad? so using libmad in ffdshow will be using the same exact decoder then?

I'm using a Sapphire (ATI) HD 4830 PCIe with CATALYST 9.1 under Win XP Pro with Sp3.
With revision 1000 VMR9 renderless - MPC video decoder does not work with VMR9 renderless at all so can't use for vc-1 or avc. No longer works with older releases as well so not sure why VMR9 is hosed altogether. Mpeg2 works fine with Cyberlink's decoder with or without DXVA.
With revision 1000 EVR Custom - MPC video decoder works fine with EVR Custom with D3D on to remove tearing. For mpeg2, I use Cyberlink's decoder so I have to turn off DXVA but works fine.
With beliyaal patch 13 VMR9 renderless - Same results with revision 1000
With beliyaal patch 13 EVR Custom - MPC video decoder works but is not smooth with EVR Custom, i.e., a bit jerky, at least enough to be distracting. Turning on D3D gets rid of tearing, but have to keep the sync options unchecked otherwise tearing reappears. Mpeg2 is same as revision 1000 with EVR Custom. Can't use the D3D GUI support because, when on, tearing is introduced again. I tried all sync options and no go. Also, when in D3D, Ctrl-C doesn't always restore the player so I have to use Alt-X to exit to restore my screen.

The Leves issue is around for a long time now, it became apparent when SP1 for Vista was released. I suspect some flag or something is not passed properly to the renderer when the Custom Presenter is used, but only the devs can help.
Until then I 'm falling back to Catalyst 9.1 as a temporary workaround, but this really need to be addressed once and for all.

9.2 on WinXP32 Sp3 here.
System HD2600 PciE, MPC-HC 997, VMR9 renderless
Tested (23,975fps)
h264 1080p L4.1 5 Ref with Subs DXVA OK
h264 720p L4.1 3 Ref w/o Subs DXVA OK
h264 1080p L5.1 8 Ref w/o Subs DXVA failed (can nvidia play this correct?)
standalone filter on Zoomplayer 6 works too
BTW i use every time when i install a new driver the HD driver tweaks:
http://home.comcast.net/~exdeus/ati-hd2x00/
same results on MPC-HC 1000

went to EVR last night. This solved all my tearing problems I had! No more d3d fullscreen needed.
Some questions because I m new with EVR:
- Where is the EVR buffers for and do I leave it on 5 (default) for best results?
- Where is the option lock back-buffer for and is it best to leave it OFF (default)?
A general MPC-HC question:
Why is none of my media starting in Fullscreen? I always have to double-click in MPC-HC to make it go fullscreen. I have ENABLED launch files in fullscreen but this doesn t help.

i have a question about the quality from the h.264 decoder.
a few days ago i tested cyberlink's latest power dvd 8 decoder with mkv movies in mpc-hc. and i thought it was the best i ever have seen on my plasma.
but i want results. so i install coreavc 1.90, latest ffdshow (ffmpeg-mt), latest mpc-hc with dxva and the decoder from power dvd 8.
i made pictures as *.png in mpc-hc from all four decoders from the same mkv movie scene.
when i had made the pics i compared them with each other.
after comparing the pics, i can't see any difference between the quality from the pics. they look all the same.
video renderer was evr custom with bicubic A=-1.0 (PS2.0) and pixel shader 16-235 -> 0-255 [SD][HD].
so can anybody confirm my results?

Do you have this problem with Beliyaal's build?
where is this option "audio switcher"? because I don't find in MPC-HC.
EDIT: I found this option but at home it is always turn off because I have never seen an interest and I don't use haali. I use only mpc-HC + ffdshow
i give you an example which contains sample of dvd with separated subtitle.

subtitles are not synchronized with video but it's not a problem to see the problem with load subtitle and open dvd functions.

All the people with DXVA problems, did you properly uninstall 9.1 before installing 9.2 (including rebooting into safe mode and running driversweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) or some other simmilar tool)? DXVA doesn't work for me with 9.1 either, but it works fine with 9.2.

@XXL Please post requirements like "Attention! To work correctly, the program needed to install DIRECTX End-User Runtime version 9.25.1476 (05.11.2008) . " in the first post
What part of MPC-HC require this?
(I'v got WinXP x32 SP3, which includes v9.0c)

It is required for the shaders.
Updates for DirectX are released every two months. You don't need to download the whole runtime. You can also use the DirectX web-installer to only download the missing updates.

Been trying on an gm45 chipset laptop which runs vista64 , do you have an exp 64 bit build ?

Also tried the build on an intel dg45id g45 motherboard , gives me same as the laptop not using dxva, if im disabling internal h264 ffmpeg then im getting no filter found error . This runs vista32.
I have a third motherboard this is also using g45 express, Asus P5Q-EM this does also return not using dxva. Runs vista64.
All the clips im trying to feed works very nice with cyberlink filter and dxva , lot of them are bluray remux movies. So should def. be compliant.

@clsid: thanks for the info ...
I remuxed a 1080i bluray into mkv using eac3to: 29.97 fps , interlaced (opera).
when using DXVA (VMR9 renderless) it reports double framerate, and the video is blocky ... (no matter waht splitter is used: Haali vs internal mkv splitter)
Plus: with this double framerate (60 fps) I get dropped frames on my secondary "monitor" which is an LCD TV, 60 Hz ...
If sample is helpful I'll upload it, if someone tells me where ...

You don't need the x64 build to have DXVA, only to use Evr or Evr custom and disable ffdshow/vsfilter.
