Hi!
I'm using last MPC-HC stable version with an Ati 3850HD under XP SP3 (with last DirectX). The problem (under dxva) is that sometimes video shows up, and sometimes I get a black screen plus sound.
To fix it I've to restart the PC...and sometimes it keep failing.
It's set in VR9 renderless and all the others renderer settings by default.
Thanks for you help.

What videocard, driver, system(XP or Vista) ???
I think you're asking me?
HD2400pro, Cat 9.5 beta, Windows 7
The results where the same with XP and cat 8.5
As you mention I think I can fix this. I think I will be able to get to it next weekend.
that would be awesome

@Everyone,
Thank you for testing Batch 1.
I have updated all bugs with the new bug reporting instructions.
Any bugs that do not already contain the required information and are not updated will be closed as fixed or invalid.
Please make sure you double check your bug reports.
Next up is batch 2:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=browse&group_id=170561&atid=854651&status=1&artgroup=898923
The new bug reporting rules can be read here:
How to report bugs
Step One: Make sure you have followed the following steps to make sure it's not a configuration/Version problem:
**First download the newest build here:http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/1/2/
(You can also find older builds here for regression testing)
**You can check out the changelog here, the problem might have been fixed in a newer version than the one you where using:http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/vi...c-hc/?view=log
**MPC-HC settings stored in the registry may be incompatible with earlier versions. The settings can be deleted: save the following code as "clean-registry.reg" and run it(with admin rights in vista/win7).
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest]The same goes for the settings.ini file created next to the mplayerc.exe, delete it.
(In both cases MPC will recreate the settings entries on the first run.)
**Make sure you're videocard drivers and directX version are up to date
If this does not solve the problem move on to step two
Step Two: Provide as much system information as possible:
**Windows and servicepack versions
**MPC-HC build version, when reporting regressions please name the last working build, also comparisons to other players (even MPC regular) are very welcome
**Try with both internal and haali splitter and report the difference in results
**Try with both internal and external codecs and report the difference in results
**If appropriate FFdshow build number, If using ffdshow, then also test with internal transform filter if appropriate.
**Videocard and driver version
**Renderer used and options selected in the output settings (a screenshot of the output menu, rightmouseclick filters and rightmousclick renderer settings). Also try with different settings/renderers.
Step Three: Provide sample(s) and screenshot(s)
**A sample can be cut with avidemux(http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/) or mkvmerge(http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/)
**A screenshot can be made by pressing the "print screen" button on the keyboard and opening paint, then paste (CTRL+V)
Please upload screenshots to http://imageshack.us/
Please upload samples to http://sharebee.com and post all the mirrors
**If the bug causes mpc-hc to crash, attach a minidump or upload it it to http://sharebee.com and post all the mirrors. You can make a mini dump by starting mplayerc.exe in a command line(with administrator rights) with the option "mplayerc.exe /minidump" and upload the ".dmp" file generated after crash.
Step Four: Write a detailed explanation of how to reproduce the problem

Because some NetDisks (Space) can be accessed from China but hardly be accessed from other. Vice versa.
So it's a difficulty to share files such as samples.

I usually have a headache on this.
It will be a problem for people in china then, most dev's live in Europe and USA. and Sharebee will work for 99% of people reporting bug's.
Sharebee mirrors the file to all big file hosting sites, this makes sure that all the people who need to can download the sample.
An alternative could be to use a proxy, but if that is a problem you will have to keep searching for a file-hosting that is accessible from both China and the rest of the world

jsf is going to write a new subtitle renderer.
His plans are:
*Platform independent, with (compile time?) optimisations for certain platforms.
*Font independent
*Speedy and easy to add new subtitle types
I have replied to his post toying with the idea to update the MPC-HC renderer with his new renderer.
At this stage in development this might still be possible. He is looking for coders to help him get it off the ground.
more info here:

PS. jsf submitted many patches to vsfilter in the past

Now, after clear reg, 90% of my mkv's work, except some 1080 like this I post below.
VC-1 (TS files) don't show any picture. H264-TS files work ok.
All these under VMR9 renderless and "vmr9 mixer" checked.

I'm really glad that you are trying to create a new multi-platform open-source subtitle renderer.
I know you are still in early planning stage but i have some requests:
1. Could you try and make your subtitle renderer compatible with hardware decoding? (DXVA, VDPAU, CUDA, OpenCL)
2. Would i be possible to replace the MPC-HC built in decoder with your version if/when it gets better?
I wonder if it would be possible to split the current MPC-HC subtitle renderer/VSfilter into a platform dependent and platform independent part.
And then replace the independent code with your new codebase.
This would make the MPC-HC built in decoder much better than it is now, VSfilter will give you windows support and you would only need to add the api's for linux/unix and MacOS X
Then again, if you manage to create a standalone filter that supports all hardware decoding flavors than mpc integration would not be needed at all.
You might be able to find willing coders in the MPC-HC, XBMC and Mediaportal pool..
As you might know, I've hacked a bit on the VSFilter and TextSub code, and my conclusion is that it's not salvageable. It's also written around MFC as framework making it impossible to turn platform independant without rewriting it all to use STL or similar anyway. There's also various other Windows-isms in it. Finally, the guliverkli code is GPL licensed, I'm not that fond of the GPL license and I don't want to use GPL code in Kumaji. (I prefer to keep it clean BSD 3-clause.)
Now to those two numbered questions...
1. It will be possible to have Kumaji output ARGB bitmap overlays that can be sent to a hardware renderer. However, plans are to perhaps create a new, extended subtitle format that includes advanced blending modes (ie. not just SRCALPHA), I don't know if that's supported by the frameworks.
2. Yes the plan is to make it pluggable in all kinds of ways. Of course as DirectShow, Avisynth and VDub filters, but also an API so it can be integrated directly into players such as MPC, mplayer and VLC.
There's still some things I want to sort out personally before I let other coders get onto the project. I could use someone to discuss design issues with, however.

I pretty much expected this answer (but i had to try)
Sounds like your subtitle renderer is going to be great if everything pans out. Do you have a rough idea when the general public can start to use your renderer?
Vsfilter has so many problems, the bug tracker is filled with issues related to subtitles.
Would you mind having a look? or are you completely done with vsfilter?

One minor "observation":) when using ini file, to reset MPC-HC's settings user must open the ini file and delete everything inside except [Settings] cause deleting the ini file or everything inside (including [Settings] ) will result in MPC-HC starting to use registry and ignoring the ini file

Is there a way to make MPC-HC keep fullscreen mode even if it lose focus? Sometimes other application throwing out an error, which cause MPC-HC to go back to windows mode. Some may like this, but I don't. Moreover, Windows 7's Aero peek cause this as well (I can call aero peek using a mouse button or Win key+Space, so it's possible even if MPC-HC is fullscreen). Somethime I just want to quickly check some stat on the gadgets. All in all, does an option to prevent this exist? If not, may I request it? Thank you.

Sounds like your subtitle renderer is going to be great if everything pans out. Do you have a rough idea when the general public can start to use your renderer?
I still have lots of basic architectural problems to solve.
The real problem, though, is my laziness.
I have some rasterisation code done, but it's somewhat slow. I think the interface for some of it needs to be changed.
I mostly have the complex text layout code for Windows (Uniscribe-based) done, but it needs a lot more testing. I thought I had line-breaking down, but I need to re-do that because the design doesn't allow all line breaking modes to be implemented sensibly together with complex text layout.
I have an idea on how to handle the different requirements of different subtitle formats in styling, and how to perform the pipeline, but haven't written any real code towards that yet, it's still only vague ideas. (I'd like someone to discuss those with. Only experienced developers please...)
If I stopped just sitting on my hands playing games and stuff, maybe a month or two before something alpha-quality for a single platform could be ready. However, I also do have school and work to attend.
Vsfilter has so many problems, the bug tracker is filled with issues related to subtitles.

I've decided not to touch it any longer, it makes me feel dirty (http://www.laputan.org/mud/). I'd rather it died a slow death.

I take that means you want to have a proper line breaking for all language? I'm glad to hear that. I rarely have to use my native langauge, Thai, subtitle. But when I do, it is disturbing to see a badly line-breaking one.
To make this post not completely off-topic. Is there a way to keep OSD on all the time, even after restart MPC-HC?

Hello,
Can anyone tell me what is VMR9 mixer mode (in Outpout tab, setting part) exactly doing? Because im using VMR9 renderer and when VMR9 mixer mode is checked and playing HD movies with DXVA its very laggy. With VMR9 mixer mode unchecked the playing is smooth without any problem. I have sapphire hd 4670 connected with a full hd lcd tv and a 19" crt monitor.
My OS is Windows Xp SP3 ,but the problem is the same on windows 7.
Tried on mpc hc (beliyall version too), and the kmplayer

Hello,
Can anyone tell me what is VMR9 mixer mode (in Outpout tab, setting part) exactly doing? One important thing - mixer mode is needed if you want to view 1080p h.264/vc-1 video correctly. These are encoded with 1088 lines which need to be cropped to 1080 before display. VMR9 only does this with Mixer mode enabled. Without it the aspect ratio is distorted slightly (1088 lines squeezed into 1080, with a 1080p display) and on some movies there will be "noise" (flashing pixels etc.) in the bottom 8 lines.

Worst case, you could host a torrent. TONS of stuff from China appears on bittorrent indexing sites.

Thank you.
Same thing with the Windows screensaver (at least in XP), when it kicks in if I pause a movie for a washroom break, MPC-HC returns to windowed mode which is a *major* pain, so +1 for that request.

OLD BUG
Has anyone attempted to fix the internal splitter... I tried playing some vc-1 content again with ffdshow's vc-1 decoder and its still stuttering like crazy. Many posts back I think beliyaal said this was a problem with the splitter... just thought it was serious enough to have been looked at.
FEATURE REQUEST
And as people are requesting features, I would make a request (for the second time in these 377 pages ;) ) to change the functionality of the full screen command line argument. I still believe it should make the player go fullscreen immediately, without first drawing the window in windowed mode, then showing the stats area, then showing the info area, then starting to load the file, and then moving to fullscreen.
This immediate switch to fullscreen means mpc-hc can be used as an external player in many media center extensions etc that can use an external player, without having a noticible ugly delay / window appear each time a movie is started.

i have a few questions, apparently other people are having issues with a few last lines messed up using 1920x1080 video, same issues here, using newer builds, and it seems that not all of my files are decoded with DXVA, using 9400m on the Mac Mini with BootCamp, most of my movies utilize DXVA, but still some older ones do not, weird cause my 8800GTS 512 on my desktop machine runs them with DXVA, does this just mean it's not implemented for 9400m? Cheers and keep up the good work :)

Are you sure that is a 8800GTS? AFAIK 8800GTS has NO DXVA function.

But as a partial workaround you can turn off all of the menus/info areas, so all you see is a box in the middle of the screen. You can also choose what is displayed in this box. There is quite a reasonable, simple "Media Player Classic" image included that is just a white logo on a black background - not too distracting. Or you could replace it with an all black image and all you would see is a white rectangle around a black box.

He specifically mentioned the 512 MB version, which does have DXVA (bitstream) capability.

I second this request, and would like to add that mpc exit on completion.

What you could try is to use already publicly available samples.
Samples from microsoft.com or something like big-buck-bunny
:thanks:
But sometimes the samples we want to share always are not common formats.
So...

Does anyone know how to get subtitles working from bluray m2ts files?
And how to really switch audio streams?

Just making a post to summarize the bugs and feature requests I have had over the past few weeks.
BUGS
Bug 1) Broken internal splitter for vc-1. Using ffdshow's vc-1 decoders causes terrible stuttering / dropped frame problems for mpc-hc. Beliyaal said earlier this was due to problem with internal splitter and his frame time correction is a temporary workaround for this problem. Anyone got an update on the status of this?
Bug 2) Problem seeking in vc-1. I hate this one. One of my 1080p vc-1 m2ts files (given as Video: WVC1 1920x1080 23.98fps in pin info) constantly freezes when seeking. The audio continues perfectly but two frames will repeat themselves continuously randomly upon seeking, probably 50:50 whether it happens or not. Example of two frames below, one appearing to be corrupt, one appearing to be OK. These frames repeat over and over and over again and even further seeks doesn't fix it. I assume the broken frame is somehow causing the glitch? I can repeat easily, if sample is needed I am sure I can rip a sample from the larger file.

Bug 3) I notice this problem vc-1 file has HDMV LPCM (which I have to investigate for myself to see is it better than True HD....) but its labelled as HDMW LPCM, typo somewhere.... probably quick to fix this one.
FEATURE REQUESTS
1) My biggest request is to improve the fullscreen command line switch to IMMEDIATELY switch mpc-hc to fullscreen, with the intention of the user never ever seeing any windows / guis. This lets media browsing software with support for external players use mpc-hc and appear more seemless and more beautiful :).
