No crashes here with the internal flv splitter and decoders with r1623.
Thx for testing.
I made a few more tests and it seems to only crash when using Haali Renderer. I upgraded the external splitter to 1623 and it also crashes with 1623 external splitter. Very strange. Too bad that I don't know the version of the old splitter I had installed (overwritten, can't look it up anymore either).

When switching between standard and borderless mode, the height of the menus/status bar and whatever else isn't taken into consideration when going to borderless mode, which sometimes adds black bars around the video:
http://i45.tinypic.com/2qmm5j4_th.jpg (http://i45.tinypic.com/2qmm5j4.jpg)
http://i46.tinypic.com/2wf8dg5_th.jpg (http://i46.tinypic.com/2wf8dg5.jpg)
And the worst part is, you now can't remove the borders by resizing the form. Resizing it with borders won't work either because of the aformentioned problem. And while I'm at it.. can another option be added to add the thin border back? I don't like not bein able to resize the player when in true borderless mode. Something like 1 = borderless, 2 = thin border, 3 = borders + menu, 4 = borders + menu + seekbar would be ideal.
Another issue: If you start MPC-HC by running mpc-hc.exe %1 /fullscreen where %1 is an invalid path/non-playable file, you can't hit escape to exit fullscreen mode. And on a related note, the close issue (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1350339#post1350339) is still present.

@ar-jar: I direct this report at you as I think that rev 1557 is the cause of this regression. Basically when I use rev1557 32bit available on xvidvideo.ru, when the player loses its direct3d surface and reinitialize, it forgets to do that for the subtitle renderer so I will be unable to see subtitle after a UAC prompt unless I disable then enable the internal sub renderer. I use EVR Sync.
If you need more information, please say so.
I'm sorry to say, I'm a bit ignorant about the way subs are handled in MPC-HC. Does this apply to DVD subs? Anyway, I found something that might cause you problem. There's a test version on my download page (http://www.ostrogothia.com/?page_id=1213). Please let me know if it is an improvement. -A

I have a big problem and I don't understand.
1)Until now I used mpc-hc 1.1.604 to see video, i use shader 16-255 to 0-255 to correct grey and black colors.
TOday, i must use the last version because subtitles in a mkv video are not displayed with 1.1.604. But the problem is that if I unchecked shader 16-255 to 0-255, My video is just as if this shader was enabled. If i turn on this shader , it's just as if I have applied twice this shader.
Is-it normal or not?
I use evr-custom.

I'm not sure, but I would gues that newer versions of MPC-HC does 16-235 to 0-255 level fix by itself when view --> renderer settings --> output range is set to 0-255, so you don't need to do it with shaders anymore. Have you checked that you have disabled both shaders?

I have questions about your options in mpc-HC that you create.
1) first question
Before, to remove tearing I use lock back buffer option that works perfectly. But today, this option doesn't exist anymore. Can you explain me the options that I must activated to obtain the same results?
I read your comments in your blog but my english isn't very good and it's just very complicated that I don't know what are the options that I must activated.

I have questions about your options in mpc-HC that you create.
First of all, I only work with the Sync Renderer (aka EVR Sync) so my knowledge is limited (but I'm learning...).
I'm sorry but I have tried my best to explain how the sync options work on my blog. I can't right now think of an alternate way to say the same thing. Also, the sync renderer is not a officially released yet. What you see are snapshots from the development. You should probably avoid the "sync display to video" option is you don't really understand what's written on the blog.
I don't have any documentation on the autochange function. I think there's been a discussion earlier on this thread.
The options for GPU control etc only apply to EVR custom for which I don't have any documentation. I think there is something written on the project wiki about these. Also the lock backbuffer is probably an option that applied to some old renderer that I don't have any knowledge of.
The main difference between EVR custom and EVR sync is that the latter has two algorithms to sync the video frame rate to the display refresh rate.

I also found that MPC-HT doesnt seem to display external subtitles automatically (ie .srt subtitle files) anymore. Previous versions did, afaik.
I have to manually check the subtitle in the menu.
But even when i do that, the subs dont get displayed on my secondary screen when using EVR Sync renderer.
"Normal" EVR custom presentation does display the subs.
I have it set up here as follows:
Primary is my CRT. Subs work when manually enabled. On EVR custom / sync.
Secondary is my Panasonic FHD TV.
The secondary video out is connected to the Xonar HDAV, which in turn in connected to the Panasonic though HDMI.
Video get displayed as is supposed to, but subs dont show on secondary. This is when using EVR Sync, on primary they show.
EVR custom works as usual. Subs show on both displays, but for the having to select the subs manually bug.

@ar-jar: your private build indeed corrects a problem with subtitles not displayed with SyncRenderer. I had to disable then re-enable subtitles in order to have it. Now it's ok.
@ikarad:
1) I confirm ar-jar blog is understandable. If you don't understand, it's surely because you don't understand what synchronization means for videos. You should try google for this part, before to read ar-jar blog again.
2) autochange is for synchronization; it has been introduced by X-Dron in build 1529, and it's self-explained... if you understand what synchronization is for. ;-)
4) EVR-Sync and EVR custom have same aim: perfect synchronization and no tearing. EVR Custom uses Beliyaal algorithms and EVR Sync uses ar-jar algorithms.
3) these are options for EVR custom (by Beliyaal); there have been some documentation at some point (I think you'll be able to find it if you search)

I can confirm that the subtitle file has been loaded sucessussfully, but the subtitle didn't display yet. It's not filename issue.
Well, I cannot confirm that and I tried almost every file type. Subtitles were automatically loaded since they had the same filename as the videos.
So see the guidelines and create a proper bug report.

I use 60Hz too. The refresh-rate is not the culprit for my issue. Maybe I should give some concrete examples.
For some XVID, DIVX, H264/AVC(1080P DXVA2 on) videos I've tried the subs automaticly loaded & displayed successfully. For some MPEG2 & VC-1 (also 1080P or 1080I w/ DXVA2 on, for mpeg2, decoded with cyberlink powerdvd9's mpeg2 decoder)files I've tried the sub files loaded ok but did'nt display out on the screen. The filename I checked again, no problem with it. OK, I almost forgot one thing for AVC/H264 file that there is an exception, the sub file of one of my AVC/H264 videos has an ext-name "ass", also the subs loaded but did'nt displayed yet. That's it, hopes my post can give some helps.

X-Dron, would it be possible for the "Fullscreen auto change" feature to propose a set of settings like "Desktop@60Hz" which will probe for current screen resolution and apply frequency change, this would allow people with two screen (like for example a computer screen and a videoprojectorą to use the same settings for both screen when possible.

For synchronization to have any chance to work, your display refresh rate must be an even multiple of the video frame rate. So in your case the only option is "present at nearest" which doesn't synchronize but tries to keep the timing of the rendering code ok to avoid tearing.
There is no specific mechanism in sync renderer yet to totally eliminate tearing. There should be no tearing if your sync offset is long enough. In exclusive mode fullscreen there is most likely no tearing.
In your case the best thing you can hope for is a fairly straight green curve. The red curve will look like on your images. The red curve basically shows when a new frame is transferred into the back-buffer and thus also gives a clue about when the frame will be displayed. With non-matching rates the frame intervals will vary. -A

No, I haven't tested DVD sub, only embedded subs in mkv files. Anywway the test build seems to fix it for me from preliminary test. I will test more later, it's 1:25AM here.
The autozoom to 100% after first file is still here though. But it's likely Aleksoid 1607 rev problem.

Does anyone know what subtitles rendering is faster in terms of CPU load, MPC-HC internal engine or for example ffdshow? Also how big impact on GPU performance has MPC-HC's internal rendering?
EDIT: Lets say we have fullhd video and texture resolution for subtitles is 1080p
Stephen R. Savage
8th February 2010, 03:49
MPC-HC internal subtitle renderer is VSFilter, and it gets very slow very quickly. At full HD, I find that it uses as much CPU time as the AVC video decoder when prebuffering is disabled. Things that it especially doesn't like are transforms (speed penalty for each transform) and edge blur (speed penalty for each character). When prebuffering is enabled, it still has a noticeable effect on CPU time, but not as dramatic (went from ~90% -> ~70% on my Core 2). As with VSFilter, the MPC-HC renderer does not run on the GPU, so it has no effect on GPU performance. ffdshow's subtitle renderer is some homebrewed stuff which probably has a negligible speed penalty, but also poor compliance to SSA "standards".
Note: To enable prebuffered subpictures on MPC-HC, you need to check "disable animations" as well as increase the buffered pictures, due to a bug.

Well yes, I pretty much know about vsfilter vs MPC-HC speed, I'm just not familiar with ffdshow, so I thought maybe I missing something important and it faster or something.
As with VSFilter, the MPC-HC renderer does not run on the GPU, so it has no effect on GPU performance
But the result of the MPC-HC's subtitles engine is rendered by video renderer, while with vsfilter subtitles rendered exactly into the stream before the renderer. Even so it still has no impact on GPU?

As with VSFilter, the MPC-HC renderer does not run on the GPU, so it has no effect on GPU performance.
I don't know how the subtitles are implemented(you can use them with DXVA acceleration for video, subs aren't between the GPU and the screen). I would think there is some sort of extra overlay for internal subtitle renderer only, and if so, GPU does have an effect because of implementation.
I think this because I get stuttering with 4500MHD DXVA+ subtitles, but not with 4500MHD DXVA + no subtitles, nor with 9600M GT DXVA + subtitles - on the same computer.

Changeset 1635
Aleksoid is wrong.
Feature Request #36 but not #46.
https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpc-hc/ticket/36
tetsuo55
Pls close this ticket.
I need guru's advice to make working together Reclock and autochange display mode.
How best to get values of protected variables m_DetectedFrameTime and m_DetectedLock located in class CDX9AllocatorPresenter from MainFrm.cpp(CMainFrame::AutoChangeMonitorMode).
Of couse I can make this using AfxGetMyApp(), for example
Code from void CEVRAllocatorPresenter::MoveToScheduledList(IMFSample* pSample, bool _bSorted)
....
m_DetectedLock = false;
for (int i = 0; i < nAllowed; ++i)
{
if (BestVal == AllowedValues[i])
{
m_DetectedLock = true;
AfxGetMyApp()->mDetectedLock = m_DetectedLock; // new line
break;
}
}
if (BestVal != 0.0)
{
m_DetectedFrameRate = BestVal;
m_DetectedFrameTime = 1.0 / BestVal;
AfxGetMyApp()->mDetectedFrameTime = m_DetectedFrameTime; // new line
}
....
Code in void CMainFrame::AutoChangeMonitorMode()
....
if (AfxGetMyApp()->mDetectedLock == true) MediaFPS=AfxGetMyApp()->mDetectedFrameTime;
....
But I think this is not the best way.

Passing parameters between DX9Allocator and MainFrm for example is already done this way (see m_fDisplayStats for example), so you can keep this solution.
A cleaner solution would be to add an custom COM interface on renderer to call function from the main Wnd (a little bit more complicated).

1) what is the differences between accurate vsync and alternative vsync ?
VSync and Accurate VSync relay on graphic card drivers to perform VSync. The difference between the two is that Accurate VSync just loops without sleeping to more accurately determine when the screen is refreshing a particular scan line. This takes some extra CPU time. Without this (VSync only), the precision of some calculations are only on the order of 1 ms or more.
Alternative VSync instead of relying on the graphics drivers to do the VSync, looks at the scanline position of the screen refresh and flips the screen at the correct time. This fixes buggy drivers and provides some increased concurrency as more threads can work with D3D surfaces a longer portion of the frame, which leads to the buffering queue in the renderer filling up better, especially if the frame time is the same as the refresh rate. It is especially good for software decoding.
You should use Alternative VSync only if you want to adjust VSync manually (with Ctrl+Alt+UP, Ctrl+Alt+DOWN).

Hey folks.
Thanks for the new subtitle load order function. Works perfect for my mkv files.
I have many avi files as well with undetermined audio tracks. Would it be possible to provide a function to always load a certian track number if present? For instance: always load track 2.
Furthermore I was thinking about the new ---Every Time--- after playback behaviour.
I only have a cosmetic suggestion for this.
Would it not be better to remove this: ...
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1717/63760418.jpg (http://img13.imageshack.us/i/63760418.jpg/)
... and merge it with stuff here? Perhaps an "After Playback Preset" dropdown menu?
Since Repeat and Rewind are kind of after playback behaviours as well you could merge it together somehow: ...

Excuse the question, perhaps stupid I can not find the setting
The problem is that the Bluray "Angels & Demons" in the opening scene of the laboratory in which he speaks in French, Italian subtitles should appear and then disappear when the box back in our language.
Well this is normally the case with PowerDVD but with MPCHC not happen, or do not have subtitles, or if imposed will remain permanently for the duration of the film.
Something wrong?
THANKS

Have you checked 10 bit RGB and your gfx board doesn't support it? (Use e.g. DirectX caps viewer to see what modes are supported.) -A

When it comes to watching Bluray films with subs, i have found that in order to view them using MPC-HC internal subtitle splitter (or what ever the hell you call it), i have to turn of DXVA or hardware acceleration. I found this out while trying to get subs for my Apocalypto Bluray

No, I'm pretty sure it's not checked. Some time ago I tried it and it didn't work so I never touched it again.
I verified just now and it isn't. In fact, I keep a backup mpc-hc.ini file and compared it - nothing's changed inside.
I'm aware it some more data is needed for troubleshooting, but I think it's significant that the only change is the bump of mpc-hc.exe from version 1623 to 1635 (both downloaded from xvidvideo.ru).

Sorry but I did not understand, you mean you found the solution?
However both Powerdvd that TMT automatically use it (the forced sub) for the chosen language

Try the "private build" on my download page (http://www.ostrogothia.com/?page_id=1213). This seems to be something I introduced when I did some major refactoring of the code. Thanks for the report! -A

That's what I think about it.
1. "Once" and "Every Time" options are written in one part of the code. It's illogical to separate them.
2. It is now possible to choose "Once" and "Every Time" options simultaneously. For example "Do nothing Every Time" and "Shutdown once" and you can see this in the same menu.
3. If you make a mistake with choose "Once" option you can reset it by clicking at "Every Time" options.

Yes it was a solution. Turning of hardware acceleration - deselecting the DXVA portion of H264AVC/VC1 in internal filters in MPC-HC options - will give you subtitles but you have to use and enable MPC-HC internal subtitle splitter which is activated with certain renderers. I was able display them with the Evr CP Renderer but not MadVR.
I haven't tested it with VSfilter.

madVR does not (yet) support subtitles. The options dialog in MPC specifies which renderers are compatible with the internal subtitle renderer.
VSFilter can not be used in combination with DXVA.

@ ar-jar - thank you very much for detailed technical info on your blog about synchronization,
but I recommended to do some simple FAQ, cause reading it all is pain in the ass for non native English users :p
because on the end of my reading I find I can simply use CTRL + ALT + Up/Down-arrow to higher/lower Sync Offset to get rid of tearing or simply make it invisible
and now I can finally use Bicubic (-0.6) + Shaders (sharpen complex 2 + YU12 Chroma upsampling on PS3) with 17ms Sync Offset (cause in default 12ms I see tearing) in 1920x1080 files,
without disabling shaders and using bilinear sampling :)

EVR Custom working fine, and IMO work better in most cases for now

Also why EVR Sync show me that my GPU didnt support 10bit RGB, but in EVR Custom 10bit working like I can see on SS
or its just mislead information in EVR Custom that I use 10bit RGB or simply bug in EVR Sync for not using 10bit RGB ?

Maybe I missed some points, but it seems 1st video is 48fps for a 60Hz display: 60/48 is not an integer, no sync possible.
For the second video, what option do you use in EVR Sync ? If you use the first one, it will be difficult to set "target Sync Offset" since 60/60=1 - 3ms = -2 ms, and it cannot be inferior to 1 I think, so I don't think this option can be used with 60fps video.
Or maybe, the script you use to double frame is to consuming...
