Same problem here on two different PC's. Only happens with files containing PCM stereo audio. Demuxing the audio works fine, a .wav gets created in the TEMP folder, then craps out immediately after that. Anyone like to take a guess as to what is happening?

I may be dumb not knowing how to do this, but is there any way to tell RipBot encode something other than the main movie file on a BD? For example, I am trying to convert individual episodes of Pushing Daisies. When I click on a stream, RipBot looks for the mpls files that correspond to all three episodes; so, rather than getting my single 40 minute episode, I get a 2 hour single file of all three episodes back-to-back-to-back. Obviously for movies, that is great since some studios split their main features into multiple m2ts files. Here, though, it's irritating because I want to break these up. Any suggestions/solutions? Thanks.

I have to admit, I am anti-Apple too lol In fact, I am anti iPod AND Zune. I still have my iRiver H320 from around 2004. I detest all of these MP3 players that force proprietary software on you, and I am not convinced that Rockbox is the solution. Just a couple of weeks ago I did surgery on my little iRiver to bring it back to life because I knew I couldn't bring myself to buy an iPod ;)

You could pre-process the files to a new BD structure. Then put the new files through Ripbot. It make a extra step but look at clown_BD. It will show all the playlists and you should be able to select individual episodes. It will then automatically use eac3to/tsmuxer to create a new BD structure for you. Put this in ripbot.

v1.13.3 still says missing FFDShow, v1.12 is the last version that works for me.

I can not get version 1.13 to work. v1.12, after juggling various versions of required apps, finally worked. However, v 1.13 says I'm missing both FFDshow and Haali Media Splitter, even though v 1.12 accepts my configuration.

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling various versions of FFDshow, both x86 and x64 (preferably), and v 1.12 works fine but not v 1.13. Any suggestions?

Probably because there's a big DOWNLOAD link on the page your link points that leads to a generic listing and because previous versions worked fine with whatever version of FFDshow your last version worked with.

Your program says "r2633+" and I HAD a version newer, if that's what the plus sign indicates. I reinstalled exactly version 2633 and that worked. Thanks.

x264 , Atheme , Elecard AVC encoder , MainConcept are implementations of h.264 standard. (XviD and Divx are implementations of MPEG-4 ASP standard)
Video profiles and audio profiles WILL NEVER BE connected with video size. It's up to you to select correct size. You can talk all you want about not tying resolution to video/audio profiles, but yet in every profile you have , you have a default profile that works with the device you list (EXCEPT APPLE TV!!)

Wrong again. You obviously don't understand or haven't paid any attention.

There is no resizing done by the profiles, they just set compatible x264 encoder settings, that is all! You have to resize separately for every profile. It just happens that other devices may have better support than the AppleTV. e.g. If I just encode my blu-ray source and don't resize, of course it won't work on the ipod! ....and guess who makes the Ipod ... :)

Actually I did, as I use CS4 and FCP on the mac, migrated from vegas and cs3 on the pc. Adobe says the next iteration of PS will support 64bit on the mac.
The only adobe products I use on my macs are PS and Lightroom anyway, so its not a huge issue atm for me. I have a hard enough time with FCP, dont need to try to master PS.

BTW, for all the bitching Ive done the last few posts, wanted to say thanks for making my life alot easier with the blu ray support in Ripbot. My old way to convert hd-dvd to blu-ray was to use eac3to and TsMuxer, with sometimes not so good results. Ive had good luck so far with Ripbot and AnyDvd.

Apple TV was/is mainly used for stuff purchased off of iTunes. Kind of a selfish buy it our way type of sales man attitude. Now you know why people hate Mac.

I suppose you could tweak the cmd line to pass through the audio with that particular bitrate @ 5.1.. Don't know if this will work though... You would have to do the whole process manually with only Ripbot to set up the initial cmd's and avs scripts. All other editing/tweaking and processing would have to be done separate from ripbot.

Well, for movies it only allows up to 160 kbps (LC-AAC) which isn't enough for good quality 5.1 and apple doesn't support HE. Looks like they use AC3 in their downloads, so that could be worth a try.

I think apple designs some nice hardware, but for digital media players unless you plan to buy the majority of your movies frome Itunes there a lots of better and often cheaper choices then the apple tv. I bought a Western Digital "WD TV" (85€) and a 1TB external harddrive (100€) which gives me way more storage capacity (>6 times more) and supported codecs then the 160GB apple tv has for a cheaper price (less then half). I have to admit it wouldn't solve your problem because it downmixes 5.1 AAC to stereo, but at least it would play the file.
edit: Popcornhour would also be a good choice if you want to spend a bit more. It does 5.1 AAC AFAIK.

I recently sold my PS3 and replaced it with an Apple TV and am very pleased with it. I am now using Ripbot to convert my HD DVDs (1280 x 720 6144 kbps, 5.1 AAC) and Handbrake to convert my Blu-rays as that allows me to keep 5.1 DD audio. Films are streamed from my main pc in another room and my iTunes music is on the ATV hdd.

Last night I ripped Righteous Kill using anyDVD HD. Full DVD backup came out at 16.5gb. I then remuxed the movie only using tsMuxer, downsampling the HD DTS to standard DTS. This came out at 13.5gb.

Then I fed this into RipBot264, made sure profile 4.0 was selected, then selected CQ=18. Audio was set to 'Copy Stream' and output set to MKV. I selected Automatic for cropping and checked via preview. All other options were left as default.

14.5 hours later I have a MKV file that has come out at 14.5gb, 1gb bigger than the original!

Does anyone have any ideas how this might have happened?

b) For a 1080p encode cq 18 is overkill.
c) If you don't care about the filesize you should use crf, not cq.

Sorry, I understand points a and b. Point a is a fact, point b is your opinion. But for point c surely CQ = constant quality, and CRF = 18? I.e I've specified I want a contstant quality by selecting CQ, and I've selected the 'quality' of the encode by selecting CRF 18. So not sure what you mean?

And while I understand that you can't predict how big the file will come out with CQ, I was looking for help as to why it has come out bigger than the input file.

To point c) I thought CQ stood for Constant Quantizer, my mistake.

The input file are the uncompressed pictures you feed to the encoder, much bigger then the 14.5 gigs you got from the encode. The filesize of the compressed source video isn't important, the complexity of the material is.

Sorry mate, I still dont understand - the input file as per my first post was 13.5gb. The input file was a movie only remux with DTS sound using tsMuxer, from the original full disc rip.

And while I understand that output file size is directly linked to the complexity of the input file when using CQ, I still don't understand why the output file is bigger than the input file.

I did that movie too.. bluray rip from anydvd, direct into ripbot with 2 pass 6144 and 5.1 acc .. auto crop and resize to 1280*720. my file size is just under 5 GB and its as sharp as the original..

If you encode low resolutions like 640*360 you may want to use lower values, especially if you are going to upscale the video on playback. Generally the higher the quality of the source material and the higher the resolution you encode to the higher the CQ value can be while still maintaining good quality. For most people CQ 22 at 1280x720 is very good quality, so at 1920x1080 there is even less of a chance that problems will be noticable.

Your output file isn't bigger than your input file. The input to the encoder are a series of uncompressed images decoded from your original file. The input size in bits is [width * hight * bits per pixel * frames per second * duration of the video]. For a typical 2 hour movie (1080p) the input is about 500GB of uncompressed images.
