1. When converting a mkv file to AVCHD with DTS audio (bitrate: 1536 Kbps, sample rate: 48 Khz, 5.1), I generally change the audio option to 5.1 Aften, 640kbps, AC3 instead of leaving the xxx stream-copyxxx as the default audio. Is there any benefit to more stable play back on my stand alone blu-ray player (sony bdp-s550)? I feel like the playback is sometimes buggy. Sometimes, I will get only audio but no video for a minute, then it pops up OR the tv just says no signal. Sometimes, reloading the DVDR+DL disc makes it work. I'm trying to figure out if this "bugginess is a result of my encoding options, or if it a problem with my bluray player, or my reciever. My Pioneer reciever can play all audio including DTS so I am not sure why I keep changing the audio? I guess I'm doing it because I think the AC3 is "more stable"? Does this make any sense? Would love to hear your opinion.

If it helps, I usually 2-pass, lock the size to 8150MB, choosing AVCHD as my output, and burning to a DVDR+DL.

Try to burn your DVD at 4X instead of maximum. Use DVD+RW if you don't want to waste your discs. Let me know if this helps or not.

Great program, thanks a lot for creating. I've successfully encoded some of my 1080p mkv files with ac3 audio to 720p to save space and the 720p look great. A few questions:

1. Can I keep HD audio from mkv container if I leave at copy stream?
2. I have a recording from media center that I've converted to mpeg. When I play the video and audio are in sync. When I try to use ripbot to reduce the size the audio becomes out of sync with the video. I've also used mkvmerge to seperate the video and audio and both are the same length. Using Ripbot on the two separate files also results in out of sync audio. Any ideas? I'm using the high 4.0 HD.Bluray.consoles profile.

I am using your marvellous program for ripping video for my Sony X Series (NWZ-X1060) Walkman. But 2 channel audio setting is upto 128kbps. I wish to use, higher 192kbps audio setting too.

Can you please add this setting under the "Audio Profile" preferences? (Being: 2.0 CT, AAC-LC, 192 kbps [abr])

Or, can you give me the way, how to apply this setting?

2) open .m2v file in ripbot
3) enable inverse telecine function
4) set audio delay to -750ms

After this i have perfect audio synchronization. I don't know if this works with your whole file. Let's hope that audio delay is constant.

For 2 channel audio 128kbps is a really low bit rate by means of audio quality. The cinema sound is much lower in quality than a studio recording. I didn't only requested it for only choosing 192Kbps use. I may use higher 256kbps and 320kbps setting when necessary, if possible of course!

English/USA or other country specific films generally recording in real time with microphoses "outside" not in dubbing rooms. Therefore hearing the speech is really a matter sometimes. Increasing the bitrate might be helpful in many cases.

This setting is not only necessary for me here. It might be useful to others...

Movies aren't much different from music in that regard. From my experience with the NeroAAC encoder movie and tv audio tracks usually come out smaller than the average music track at a given quality settings, so the psy-model the encoder uses thinks they are easier to compress.

Yes, I also tried with the 1.14.5 version. And I get the same result there. But I now create a mkv file from a .ts file, and this run fine. But if I try that .264 file, I get that error.

This error means that color space is incorrect. x264 encoder needs YV12.
Replace old x264_x86.exe with newer

So after rummaging around I found the solution to my 7.1 FLAC problem. See the problem is most devices (PS3, XBMC, etc.) have a problem with 7.1 FLAC directly. EAC3TO can easily downmix to 5.1 FLAC. Unfortunately, it requires demuxing the completed file, processing the audio with eac, and then remuxing the audio back in. So it is possible, but tedious. Since RipBot uses eac3to already, would it be possible to add a 7.1 -> 5.1 FLAC DownMix option? Or is there someway I can add it to the script before encoding?

Any help would be great. Atak keep up the great work!

I have a quick question in regards to CQ vs 2 Pass. I know that 2 Pass should be used if you need to burn your media to a disk. Other than saving disk space, what is the benefit of CQ? Does CQ produce a better picture quality that 2 Pass?

I really do not need to burn my media to disks since I used a WHS to store all my Blu-rays and then stream them throughout the house to all the clients.

'Gathering information' after Demuxing streams is successful:
BD 'GI_Joe Region B, Ripped with AnyDVD.
Tested same rip thru BD Rebuider & HDConvertToX without

Have to eventually abort the process to close.

Ok, you got me on this one. If you don't convert to FLAC, how are you going to retain the 7.1 audio? Dolby Digital does not allow for 7.1. I don't believe there is a "standard" for 7.1 AAC. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA cannot be muxed into either MKV or MP4. What would you do with it or am I missing the point?

there is no best. Nero encoder cannot be redistributed. Quality is comparable. Period.

what streams did you select in gui? Does this happen with all your movies? Did you try to reinstall ffdshow,Haali media splitter and avisynth?

1) When you stuck at 'gathering...' do not press abort. Instead go to job1 folder and copy video.mkv to new folder.
2) close ripbot
3) open copied video.mkv in ripbot.

Does it hang now as well?

Now for my question. I am trying to convert Kill Bill, and I can't get forced subtitles to work. I have tried every practical method. And it's either all subtitles on or off.

Failed Disc: Terminator Salvation Australian Version BR

v1.14.6 - After a lengthy wait for it to demux and what-not, I'm greeted to MPC-HC open running an AVS error message, something about something else "not talking to me."

Going to try again with .5, if that fails I will screen cap the error message for more accurate bug report.

The BR uses Seamless branching for two different cuts of the film, might be the problem.

EDIT: I've used .5 release for 3 other BR's and they worked fine. I haven't changed any codecs or anything since then either.

EDIT: Failure with .5 too. The error is:

what streams did you select in gui? Does this happen with all your movies? Did you try to reinstall ffdshow,Haali media splitter and avisynth?

1) When you stuck at 'gathering...' do not press abort. Instead go to job1 folder and copy video.mkv to new folder.
2) close ripbot
3) open copied video.mkv in ripbot.

Does it hang now as well?

Also show mediainfo report of that copied video.mkv

there is no best. Nero encoder cannot be redistributed. Quality is comparable. Period.

Well, sorry about that, I guess I will just encode the audio with Nero AAC Encoder and use "Copy Stream".

Now for my question. I am trying to convert Kill Bill, and I can't get forced subtitles to work. I have tried every practical method. And it's either all subtitles on or off.

I can't get only forced subtitles to work. Any help?

Thats cause kill bill doesnt use forced subtitles. Grab third english subtitle from the list. Believe that is the correct one.

Check what exactly? You referring to Common problems number 1? The exact same setup has previously encoded 3 other BR images fine. It's this disc that's the problem.

Well shits n giggles I decided to try encoding an AVI file, it wouldn't even do that, so I guess it isn't the BR after all.

I deleted EVERYTHING, ran CCleaner, and installed it all again, and the AVI worked, so I'm giving the BR a go once more. No idea why it decided not to work. I havn't changed anything...

I have some transport streams from a Happauge HD PVR (Model 1212) and I am trying to add these in Ripbot, but when I go to add these, it shows as no audio.
Mediainfo shows the audio as 128Kbps 48Khz 2 channels AAC (ADTS) (version 2) (LC)
Any help with this is appreciated.
No problems with the video side of it.

You can make as others softwares: you don't redistribuite Nero encoder inside RipBot ... some of us already have Nero encoder, and we can copy and paste Nero encoder inside the RipBot folder
(if we want to add and use Nero encoder).

The quality of audio encoded with Nero at AAC 448, 640, 832, 960 kbps is not comparable with audio encoded with CT-AAC at maximum AAC 320 kbps. It is better.

At such high bitrates AC3 is transparent so I see no reason to use something alot less compatible with players. There is more AC3 hardware decoder than AAC.

Sound in movies is not the same as music from CD! Therefore you don't need ridiculously high bitrates!

Well I finally managed to encode Terminator to a 720P MKV, 2-pass, dual layer disc size (7.95Gb). However during some darker scenes near the end of the film I noticed some macro-blocking.

I used the default settings, is there anything I could/should change to improve the quality of dark scenes for future encodes? I honestly don't care if it makes encode times longer, I do it during the night when I'm asleep, so the PC has 8 hours to do whatever.
