I just tried the RipBot264 transcode utility that was referenced in the latest print edition of MaximumPC (March 2009), relating to ripping Blu-Ray DVDs. Used in conjunction with AnyDVD-HD, RipBot264 is a GREAT tool to accomplish essentially a one application transcode to either MP4 or MKV (I prefer MKV), and I REALLY appreciate the ability to use RipBot264 with AnyDVD-HD to produce a wonderful ripped result. However, I am having difficulty with the subtitles.

I own a full retail Blu-ray copy of the 1970 Oscar award winning movie "Patton." The original size of the main movie file is over 37GB, so it needs some considerable reduction to be able to be burned on a DVD+ DL disk. However, the transcode to that 8GB size, using the latest version of RipBot264, produces an outstanding and visually brilliant movie. But, no matter what tweaks I've tried, I can't get the English subtitles to appear in the ripped version.

During numerous scenes in that movie, German military officers and other have extended dialog spoken in German, which appears as English subtitles in the original retail copy that I have. However, the ripped version does not have any subtitles, and that seriously detracts from the movie. Can someone please help me with getting the English subtitles to appear in the ripped version. Many thanks for any assistance that can be offered. Best regards. TheBeagle

with version 1.12.0 you need to locate the sup file you need and then ocr the file to a srt text file. This can be done with suprip. If you have more than one English sub, ocr each one until you find the one you want. You then add the srt file in the add subtitle above the ripbot output directory.

With 1.13.+ if it works. It will read the sup file directly. Use the same add subtitle and select the sup file.

What you can also do it burn the srt directly into the image so the translation comes up automatically. However, it will be part of the image all the time. If you don't want to do that then just use the subtitle button the remote to display the right subtitle.

replace new 1.13.2 with old one 1.12.0. Let's what happens.

also send me job1.avs and all .cmd (32-bit) files from both versions(12 and 13)

Hi Atak,
Only just seen your latest post, but since RipBot was set to auto shutdown the temp folder data is lost this time.

Anyway here are my latest test results:

I used 1.12.0 but upgraded the following tools with 1.13.2 versions of the tools:

Eac3to 2.87--> 3.11
MediaInfo 0.7.8 --> 0.7.11
x264 r1066M --> r1114M
DGAVCDec 1.0.7 --> 1.0.8
DGIndex 1.5.3 --> 1.5.4

Results:

1.12.0 + Eac3to v3.11 + x264 r1114M + Mediainfo 0.7.11 + DGAVCDec 1.0.8 + DGIndex 1.5.4= WORKING!! :)

As requested I will now run 2 tests and upload all the data files you have requested:

Test 1:

Will by 1.13.2 in 32bit mode (ini = 0) but with the complete “Tools” folders exchanged with the tools folders from 1.12.0

Test 2:

Will be totally standard 1.12.0

Atak,

Well-done you’ve located the prob :)

I’ve aborted the encoding of 1.13.2 with tools folder from 1.12.0 and just checked the Encoder Proprieties screen.

You can see from this screen dump attached:

http://www.mediafire.com/?jzdmynwimd1

That the check box is checked and “--aud and --nal-hrd” is present in the lower window, but does not show in the:

job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd

or

job1_EncodeVideoPass2.cmd

Files

Can you explain why this is??

I will now check standard 1.12.0

Discoboy
20th February 2009, 20:37
Atak,

Yes!!!

With v1.12.0 both “job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd” and “job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd” files have “--aud and --nal-hrd” present.

Requested files attached to show that “--aud and --nal-hrd” is present

Over to you now...:)

Very much look forward to the next release of Ripbot264 :thanks:

Haha! Do you know what was your problem?!?! VERY simple :) You selected COPY STREAM under audio profile that's why audio was out of sync. Video was trimed but audio was untouched. Here's a lesson for you next time. You must always re-encode audio when you add Trim function!

Aah, can't leave it untouched then. Thnx for letting me know mate. Cheers!

Hi Atak,

Just to update you.

I ran 1.13.2 in 64bit mode! but manually added the “--aud” and “--nal-hrd” attributes to both the “job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd” and “job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd” files before starting the encoding.

Results = Working !! :) Chapter skip and pause functions now working

Also file size is good at 3MB short in 64bit mode.

Are you any closer to working out why these attributes are not be added but are selected in the GUI?

Many thanks,
Discoboy :thanks:

BUT encoding engine (x264) is optimized for multicores !!! More cores always means faster encoding (2X , 4X)

Instead of AMD 9550 2,2Ghz I would buy Q6600 2,4 Ghz . It can be overclocked very easly to at least 3Ghz. I have Q6600@3ghz and it's rock stable! All you need is to change fsb to 333. You don't have to raise cpu voltage and you don't have to buy extra cooling system! I doubt that you will achieve the same result on amd cpu.
How fast is your machine on encoding blurays to 1080p mkvs?
I just make a 2pass file. First pass encoded with 17fps, second pass is now at 6.6...I guess, something is wrong here.
I have the same problems using automkv. I can't imagine, using a quad takes almost as long as doing the job an a dual core machine. can you please post pictures of YOUR settings for a good quality mkv 1080p autocrop file @ 2 pass.
If my current job is done, it will have taken 12hours.

PC is
Intel q6600 @ 3GHz
Asus P5B Deluxe
4GB RAM
931GiB Seagate 7200.11 333AS
Windows Vista Business SP1/Ultimate without SP

Forgive my ignorance, but I can't even get it to start. No matter what I do it always says I don't have Haali installed. I've downloaded and installed the 2009-11-01 version one one machine several times. I rebooted, reinstalled, but no matter what I do it always says I don't have it installed. So I tried running it on another machine and I get the SAME THING. Really frustrating! I really don't know what else to do, but I definitely DO have the correct version of Haali installed, so what can I do to avoid the startup check?

whell it think i already tried that program at i coudnt use it there are missing some settings i want to use like "set file limit" and second its using divx 7 and i dont use divx ever not since it went pay to use crap.

right now im using MediaCoder but it has way to many bugs to be at stable encoder.
it will encode 16-18 files and then the program comes op with a message that the encoder has stoped working and says that it might be becorse there are some other program using the cpu but there isnt running any other programs, when that message apears i need to restart my system becorse it fucks every thing op.
Ripbot264 works flawlesh with 30 or more files but it takes a long time to import 30 files 1 at a time it woud be So mutch easy'er with an add folder option.

I don't know if its going to be added because of the work involved.

When taking an idea like this in you have to consider the amount of time it will take for each file to be indexed and the source being used.

It might be doable but the way its setup now allows for a more direct editing of the out put...

Some files will be interlaced and others will be progressive.

Some will need cropping and some wont.

The List goes on. Like I said I don't think that it in on the road map.:rolleyes:

Will post a few screenshots later if you don't mind.

I'm getting a massive oversize when I encode to bluray structure with DIRECT STREAM COPY for audio.

Target was 4480MB....(BD5)

Output was about 5.16GB (as specified in properties of folder) actually a lot higher in decimal mb as I think Ripbot uses!

Im new to the blue ray burning ..anydvd and Ripbot V1.10.6 is working great to shrink/re encode audio to fit on a 25gb bd-r.

I spent a week trying other programs such as bd rebuilder..
ripbot is the way to go.. just takes along time with movies that are 2hours + long.. but well worth it..

I have never had a oversize in over 20 encodes. I do use a custom size of 4450. I did my first BD 25 encode and decided to to it a bit less than the default 23850 and ended up at 21.6GB (22118MB).

How do you change resize presets?

I don't think you can. I believe they are determined by the input before and after crop.

I would like to add a custom 364x272 PSP preset. I understand that 480x272 in 4:3 mode produces a similar result, but hard-coding the black bars adds to the file size. A clean 4:3 resolution would be better because PSP adds its own black bars without increasing your file size.
