balthazar can you send short sample where pixelation occurs? most likely ffms2 has still some bugs. does pixelation occur for specific source (MPEG2 , VC1 , AVC). alternatively i could try to use dss2() instead of ffvideosource()

Atak, I will try and get something to you in a couple days as I will be out of town until Thursday evening. I will need to encode a new test subject and then clip out the problem. As for source, well, I am not sure if there is some correlation or not. I have tried both VC-1 and AVC with equal effect.

So are you on Windows XP? What version of ffdshow did you install? Should be a version higher than 4225 on XP.

Do we have to use CQ for distributed encoding or can we use 2 pass encoding as well? I'm trying to get distribution going but when I connect to the second computer; it keeps saying Encoding Started... and then like 5 seconds later it says Encoding Terminated... Doesn't seem to want to send the data over to the second computer

Okay for people having issues where encoding goes from Encoding to Idle:
1. Both computers MUST BE IN THE SAME HOMEGROUP(for some reason it doesn't work if it's not)
2. Check that both O/Ses run the same Bit version (i.e. if one of your computers is 32bit and your hosting server is 64bit, you will have to force the 64 bit server to use the 32bit version of x264)

Yes I tried the update, no I did not try Guest, but I did have everyone read/write
also when I tried 2-pass encoding on sequence 5 it said invalid first frame (empty) and kept looping and the sequence before that only processed 1 out of 14400 frames, so far CQ is working

I am curious, has anyone actually looked at their encodes thoroughly after using distributed encoding? I didn't and only realized after doing numerous movies that they each had glitches in different 10 minutes spots. I find it hard to believe that I am the only person with the problem, but then again nothing would surprise me.

i just tried encoding an mkv file to an avchd with ripbot.

i forgot to change resolution to 1920x1080 from 1920x800, and ripbot told me, but then it totally kicked me out of ripbot and i had to add the file all over again.

i couldnt just go back and change resolution , all information was gone


this didnt happen in last ripbot???

Atak, I just did an encode and the results look very positive. The movie is over 2 hours and I checked each 10 minute segment and all were seamless. I will do another one and report the results. So far, so good. Thanks!

Update: The second movie I tested has some pixelated corruption at the 2nd ten minute break. I have encoded the same movie without the distributed encoding option and the corruption does not exist.

Confirmed with VC1. I haven't tried MPEG2 OR AVC yet, im going try VC1 again with the new ffmpegsource first.

I take it back about the old UI. After looking at the x264 settings page on the MEGUI wiki I can see the benefits of those x264 presets compared to my own. Been doing alot of reading on it and am now testing to compare the results with my own profile.

For starters im trying placebo + film setting for my SG Atlantis blu ray stuff. The source is very grainy but I want to get rid of it. Just to be sure Grain Tune is for PRESERVING grain right? I should just continue using Film Tune and your Denoise setting under properties right?

Im trying really hard to be efficient with it and try to squeeze as much quality out of just a 2 pass 1024 bitrate setting while keeping 720p. You guys think im wasting my time trying to get quality out of that low of bitrate?

then it sounds like you don't really have much of an issue at all other than a couple of your downloaded files just having some problems. prob not something you should be bothering atak with, especially if you can solve it with a simple remux
