I am going back to 1.12.0 as that worked fine for me for what I needed.

Seems X264 64bit was this issue, with the ini set to=0 now my Panny BD35 stand-alone chapters skip is now working again correctly ;-)

I also noticed the final file size (2pass encoding) is back to being within a 2-3MB of the full DVD-9. When using 1.13.0 and or 1.13.1 with X264 64 bit enabled the final files sizes were around 300MB short of the DVD9 full size

Only down side is the X264 64bit ver was saving me around 1 hours of total encoding time....

I have a mkv file with 1 ref frame too many causing it to not play in the popcorn hour even after remuxing to .ts in tsMuxeR. I have learned the fix is to reencode to mkv with this prog or Media Coder or megui.

this is supposedly the simpler/easier prog of the 3.

my only question is how do i see if i have codec packs like K-Lite , CCCP , Vista Codec Packs or similar, to uninstall them? are they in controlpanel>add remove?

and while i see this prog described as not havign extra unneccesary settings I'm wonderign what settings i do need to set to just reencode an mkv to mkv again but fixing the ref frame issue. i guess it needs 4 ref frame instead of 5.

I have a popcorn hour also, and I use this often. Here are my settings...

Profile: Level 4.0 HD, Bluray, Consoles (I made a custom profile @ Level 4.1, 40000 buffer, 40000 max bitrate and left all else the same - I use it on all my encodes)
Mode: 2 pass & in lower right corner check the box "lock size" and choose 8150. that will give you a 7.95gb file (same as your original)
Output: MKV that will set the audio portion for you.
subtitles are off by default. you can snoop around in the other options, but nothing else needs to be changed. choose your save as location and name and you're done.
click "done" then "start"

You may be right, I just did another run with the older 1.12.0 version and it split the chapters exactly the same as 1.13.1 did. It must be the way this particular BD was made. (clerks II)

Anyone got the soft subtitle track (.sup) to display on PS3 yet?

Compressed the video to H264 1920x1080, no crop, no resizing. Specified the original .sup subtitle file. And set output to the AVCHD .bluray folder. Burned the image to +R DL with ImgBurn.

Took it to PS3, pressed the triangle button during play, the subtitle track list came up. However, after selecting it, there was still no subtitle. :confused:

Any sugguestion?

You can use CoreAVC as well but don't forget to disable h.264 decoder in ffdshow. BTW Why should I use anything else than ffmpeg-mt???

Note about subtitles:

The ssatosrt.exe program (which I assume you wrote for this), when converting subtitles to srt format (from .ass in this case I tried) the new-line characters are lost. If I manually convert the subtitles in Subtitle Workshop, the new-line characters are kept and the subtitles work fine on my PS3 (AVCHD formatted output).

Just wanted to let you and anyone else know as it took me a couple weeks on and off to figure out why the subtitles which were fine in the original no longer fit on the screen :). Would have take much less time if I just looked at it carefully the first time...kinda obvious now that I know what happens.

I can't get a screenshot of the subtitles in the bluray format as I don't know how to play them on my PC with subtitles (makes it kinda annoying for testing, but sneakernet isn't too bad).

Here is an example of the issue in action:

subtitle_1.ass is the original from the mkv file.
subtitle_1.srt is the version converted by ssatosrt
subtitle_1_SW.srt is the version of subtitle_1.ass converted by Subtitle Workshop

As another option, you might want to include an automatic line wrapping at a length which keeps the text over the image (width of the line might be hard to figure out, but you already have the width of the video at least).

Let me know if you need something else.

ok thankyou very much. I had already started it before you replied and I just did default settings cus I didn't even see the ... to go into the video settings. I'm used tot hat symbol being for picking a file but now i see the settings you speak of are in there. megui has too many settings and filters that can mess it up but ripbot I didn't see any settings. like i said i foudn them now and will try your settings.

I already reencoded the poorly encoded file with the 5 ref frames but the defaults were 3 ref frame and level 4.0 instead of 4.1 and a few other things I think that are not ideal so i will just redo it now with your settings. It takes like 6 hours though so i'm trying to start before I go out for the day so it can be done when i get back. I bought 3d glasses to watch this 1080p 3d x264 of Journey to the Center of the Earth so shame it turned out to be poorly encoded enough to not work on the pch even after remuxing to .ts in tsMuxeR. there is a 720p version but i think even reencoded the 1080p should be better.

it shouldn't degrade the quality right just reencoded it to the same x264 .mkv as long as the settings are right as you've pointed out. i think ultimately the only thing diff from the orig mkv will be the proper 4 ref frames cus i think at 5 was causing all the problems but still i'm concerned because how could just 1 ref frame higher cause that much problem especially when remuxing to .ts usually fixes everything. not only was it no video or freezing video , it was all pixelated too.

oh well hopefully reencoding helps and then i can always run that finished product through tsMuxeR also.

For those who wish to use it w/RB, it's easy too just to extract with eac3to or one of its GUIs HdBrStreamExtractor or ClownBD, use DGXXXIndexNV, then open an .avs with RipBot (and your audio stream) and continue from there.

I also have used RipBot264 just to open my .avs/.audio just to get an accurate bitrate, then encoded to x264 completely separately.

RipBot264 is excellent, and IMO unique in that Atak you've nailed the "target size" calculations for BR DVD-recordable output--I've never gone over, and usually am within 400 sectors of perfect! Good work! :)

hm, I didn't see where to put "Profile: Level 4.0 HD, Bluray, Consoles" as you said. and I did "custom profile @ Level 4.1, 40000 buffer, 40000 max bitrate and left all else the same"

I dont know if i have a diff version of RipBot (I'm using verion 1.13.1) or what but I think the settings i chose should turn out ok.

the Level 4.0 HD, Bluray, Consoles option is in the profile section under video on the main screen. just drop down the arrow to see other options. after making a custom profile, it will show up under the Level 4.0 option and say "custom".

2-pass mode is under the FPS box. it usually says CQ but you drop down the arrow to choose "2-pass". after doing that, look at the lower left corner of the main screen to find the box to check that says "lock size". then choose 8150 for a 7.95gb result.

If x264 crashes from command line then I would contact with neuron. I assume that x264 does not crash when ffdshow is used for decoding instead of GFX, right?

Yes, but the question is not GFX decoder since MeGui does the encoding with same avs.

Used three ways:

1) m2ts opening with RB directly; it works with ffdshow.
2) graph based avs opening so as to bypass ffdshow; it works.
3) dga based avs opening created by DGAVCDecodeNV and served by CUVID Server so as to bypass ffdshow; it doesn't work.

Now i'm trying with SW based free DGAVC. It uses libav as ffdshow does.
