This question has probably been asked & answered many times, but what operating system needs to be on the client servers, for the Distributed Encoding ???

Can it be something really basic, with only a small hard drive for that operating system, as long as there is an IP address (and a nic, of course)

If it's "ONLY" using the processor (as such), it's shouldn't need to be anything special, right ???

1) this is exactly what i decided to implement this morrning. new version will save encoding progress immediately after number of encoded chunks increases.

I cheated on this by using Usex264x64=0 even on the 64bit machines... but that doesn't mean something isn't wrong that I haven't noticed. I just tried this yesterday for the first time.

I'd like to ask a couple of requests:

1) drag and drop to add file to queue. I always have Directory Opus (explorer replacement) running, and I have the video files right there already. It'd be so much easier to drag and drop rather than click Add and navigate through the open dialog.

2) have a button or checkbox for "output to same folder". Click it and it automatically fills in output field. No need to browse for folder. At least it should remember the last folder you chose. It always defaults to the desktop, but I don't think I ever want to put video files on the desktop!

I feel like I'm asking for water and a straw at a 4 star restaurant, but sometimes it's the simplest things :)

You should always use preview. This also helps to detect any a/v issues (which can be fixed with audio delay BTW)

This is interesting. BD rebuilder has a similar issue when removing black borders. Why don't the programs choose a more obvious dimension (aspect ratio/pixel dimensions), and stick to that first choice? Rather than determining it multiple times.

The supported files which can be added for a batch job differ from those that can be added individually (specifically, I'm referring to .m2ts decrypted blu-ray support). I've been waiting for some kind of batch functionality for years, and now that its here, I can't really use it. :( And shouldn't the batch menu have some more options for what to do with audio, ie. wave, FLAC, core, etc?

P.S. What happened to the encoder settings menu? Used to be full of fantastic, easy-to-change options, and now its basically a textbox with a button to open a text file? Bit of a step backwards, isn't it?

If you select properties on the main Ripbot screen, it will open up some choices. The third screen has COLORs. Choose TWEAK and there you'll see settings for contrast and hue and brightness.

What I have to do now, is I encode them with Nero Recode at ridiculous bit rate of 4+ so that the chapters and such are encoded in each ep. Then I reEncode those files with Ripbot to get reasonable sized files.

LOL!!! Just set DVD Decrypter to Vob ID instead of file ID for the file mode splitting options and poof. 7 Freaken Years I've been using this version of DVD Decrypter. OMG!! Thanks ATAK.
*update* An online tutorial suggests using ifo mode. I'll try that as well and see if it makes a diff.

Problem.

Ripbot doesn't like the files that are being produced. They look good to me and MPC plays each vob file fine, but ripbot gives this error;

Getting a new error using the 1.7.2 Beta during distributed encoding. Example of the error and trying to type it in exactly, spaces included:

Exception EConvertError in module EncodingClient.exe at 00023F16. '192.168.9.7 -> [3.4%] 49/1441 frames, 3.89 fps, 5944 kbps, eta 0:05:57 ' is not a valid integer value.

@rc71 When i rip episodes from dvd i use ifo mode and rip the pgc's i want one by one. It's important that you use a seperate subfolder for each episode otherwise they will be overwritten. That's the way i do it.

If you do it your way you must rename the "episode" files to VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB and so on. and if you want subtitles need to rename the .ifo to match the names of your vobs.

So i believe it's easier to use the ifo way and create a few subdirectories for your episodes than rename a lot of files to get it to work properly.

Protect the file or the entire folder from scanning and send the file to Eset so they can check and fix.

Even though it's stated that DE now supports MKV, I can't seem to get mpg's to convert to mkv with DE...am I doing something wrong ???

I'm lovin' DE, when using 3 PC's, the Server is an i7 3930K, and the clients are an i7 980x & an i7 2600K (all overclocked), it's only taking about 20 - 30 minutes to do a conversion.

Setting it to ifo mode creates one file at a time, but ripbot seems to work with it. Bit of a pain since you have to rip each ep manually.

As for a sample, I'm a little lost. Don't know how to send a sample as the vobs are over a gig a piece and chopping them just starts getting complicated.

After using the abort feature a few times and having it save your current progress during a distributed encode, I have to say I'm very impressed with that feature. I do have a question though, why does the encoding client always re-encode the audio when you go to resume the job? I know it only takes a few minutes for the audio to encode though, so not really a big deal.

Following a fresh Windows 7 x64 reinstall and CPU/motherboard upgrade, I've only recently updated to Ripbot to 1.17 after a few months of just updating x264 manually and lazily sticking with 1.16.

One thing I've now noticed is that ffdshow no longer uses ffmpeg-mt to decode with Ripbot and just uses libavcodec. Do you know if there's a reason for that and something possibly amiss? I've tried selecting ffmpeg manually in ffdshow's codec config but there's no option for it...

Encodes are fine otherwise, speed is nearly 3x that of my old Phenom II X4 using the new 3770k so I'm not complaining or anything ;)
