i could automatically set decoder to libavcodec for vc1 on win8 . ofcourse this is just a workaround and interlaced vc1 won't work on your os. i'm not going to downgrade to tiles8 to see why m$ vc1 decoder does not work. sorry i'm alergic to this os.

I'm not sure how common interlaced VC-1 material is, but I figure your suggestion is better than it not working at all.

Cheers.

Hey Atak,

There appears to be issues with ffdshow decoding VC-1 with Windows 8.

Since moving to Windows 8 I've had random issues encoding blu-rays with RipBot264. I'd always know when I would encounter the issue, since the cropping screenshot in the Picture Properties would either be blank, solid green, or corrupt. Clicking New Frame would just cycle through those three outcomes.

Then during the encoding, avs2yuv would crash and the encoding would stop and mux what it had done to that point. The muxed file would play, but there is random video corruption.

I only just noticed that it only occurred with blu-rays encoded in VC-1. Furiousflea's post here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1586406#post1586406) put me onto the solution. Turns out that changing ffdshow's VC-1 decoder from WMV9 to libavcodec resolves both the cropping screenshot and the encoding.

However, I need to set this each time I use RipBot because Ripbot's default is WMV9 for VC-1 since it supports interlaced material.

Are you aware of this issue, and will there be a solution or work around for the next version of RipBot?

Thanks for letting me know about that. I'd started using vidcoder for anything that was VC-1 because of the problem.

Does Ripbot support Zones with distributed encoding?

I am guessing, no? Would it be possible? (seems it would be a simple matter of Frame offset calculations per script created based on the chunk size vs original frame numbers in the source)

Having an issue with a large temp drive. I have a 4TB GPT array and if I set that "drive" as the temp directory, Ripbot264 just hangs. Changing the directory to another drive takes care of the issue. Just figured I'd let others know in case they run into this too.

@sergio526: Do you use Win8 with new StorageSpace format instead of normal drive formats?
Had same problem, but after switching to old methodic all was fine.

Does anyone have experience modifying Ripbot produced scripts to use custom filters, etc. it doesn't include ?

I've been banging my head trying to get Neatvideo for Virtualdub to load. Do I need to load it from the temp directory instead or something?

I really like the job this filter does, but I want to run it distributed to speed things up

Add this script after #denoise mark

video=ConvertToRGB32(video)
LoadVirtualDubPlugin("C:\VIRTUALDUB\PLUGINS\NeatVideo.vdf", "NeatVideo", 3)
video=NeatVideo(video,"C:\AVS\SampleProfile.dnp", "C:\AVS\SamplePreset.nfp", "1.0", "3", "1", "0")

also see this http://neatvideo.com/files/NVVDUG.pdf (http://neatvideo.com/files/NVVDUG.pdf) page 26

Thank you, and yes I have read that document. I had it working fine in Avisynth before, just not with Ripbot..

It's the video= stuff you do to reference clips and apply stuff that was probably causing the problem. I do not usually use that kind of stuff so probably screwed up the syntax.
I just did a quick test with my PC as the only server and it started encoding this time. So I assume duplicating the C:\path\files on other machines should work as well.

Would be great if we had an interface to add and setup custom filters like this :)

btw.. I hate needless colorspace conversions.. Will it screw things up if I remove the YV12 call from the source filter?

It shouldn't. However video=ConvertToYV12(video) maybe needed at the end.

Yes, I threw it back on at the end. Although I did find out technically I need a "multiuser" license to use it on more than one machine at the same time.. But I've found that for whatever reason, it works much faster in Virtualdub anyway so I may end up just doing that in the future.. I'm guessing there is some slowdown involved with Avisynth and/or the way it supports Vdub filters :(

It does work though. Just, really slow :p

Can still use DE to produce the final AVC stream at least.

So back in page 568 or whatnot of this thread, someone discussed the possibility of encoding over internet using vpn, in that case, set up using TeamViewer. Seeing as how I have a 100mbit fiber connection and several pc's at my disposal all of them running TV, I found this notion rather interesting. But from what I gathered the "problem" was never solved. Has anyone looked further into this? I would love to get together with ppl and try and find a solution for the matter.

DE in vpn works for sure. It was confirmed by some user. Sorry but I don't remember his nick. First you have to setup correctly vpn connection. Then you will have to setup port forwarding in your routers.

EncodingClient listens at ports from 1001 to 1008

EncodingServers listens at 1000 , 2000 , 3000 and so on.

In the config, where you turn on distributed encoding it says AVI is a valid format, but when I try to setup a job for an AVI, it always starts a non-de encoding job instead.. no chunk creations, etc..

Am I doing something wrong??

does ripbot detect video codec for that file?

73ChargerFan
3rd June 2013, 05:17
some tools are written in java (bdsup2sub,remuxtool)
Can they be used with 64bit java? I have that installed, but ripbot says I don't have any java.

osgZach

does ripbot detect video codec for that file?

No. It's UT codec.
Same results for Lagarith.
It also won't recognize HuffYUV (ffvh)
Wrapping in MKV makes no difference. Disabling RAW support in FFdshow (so the codecs decode them) doesn't seem to make a difference either.

I need to render to either UT or Lagarith formats so I can apply Neat Video filtering before using Ripbot (render time is much faster)

Hello, is best decoding 2 pass or cq?
and if the best 2 pass why?
thanks in advance

osgZach
5th June 2013, 19:01
These days most people only use 2-pass to encode a file at a target file size. If you don't care about space, use CQ with a value between 17 (larger file, more quality kept) and 23 (smaller file, less quality). Some people might say up to 26, it depends on your preference to how it looks, and the source. A good middle of the road for me is 19 or 20. Generally I use 18 though.

Atak_Snajpera, I think I've said it before, but I just want to say a massive thank you for RipBot. It is very, very rare to find a developer who releases a product like this for free and goes on to support it for many years afterwards, not just releasing patches and new features but also taking the time to talk to engage with users on a forum. I am sending you some beer, and I hope others do the same!

I have just started playing with the CQ mode in RipBot.

Encoded 2 movies yesterday and just want to make sure everythings gone ok.

Ghostbusters 4K BluRay
The Amazing Spider-Man 4K BluRay

CQ was set to 16, with no resize in resolution.

The ETA on both movies was 3.5 hours for the first pass. Looking in the temp folder I assumed the CQ mode does 2 passes. Anyway, I left both going overnight. Next morning both movies had finished and each one took only 2.5 hours?

File size on Ghostbusters was 17GB, Spider-Man was 6GB. Guess the higher amount of grain and noise on the older film is what causes the size to be so much bigger than Spider-Man

Both movies look awesome!!

Atak_Snajpera
10th June 2013, 11:04
yes grain/noise can noticeable increase file size. btw cq mode means 1-PASS.

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to use vReveal 3.x "clean" option inside rip-bot? This makes unwanted picture distorsion (tiny dot's & pieces causes unwanted "fly like" effects) to disappear from the source.

No matter, the source disk a blu-ray or not. (For example Ghost Busters I film, blu-ray disk is a very good example, which comes with a very poor image quality)

Any ideas? Can it be possible to add this special codec in new version of Rip-bot, or as an add on plugin inside it?

Thanks to all...:thanks:

I have to agree with the request's for adding more servers to your next build, it would be VERY, VERY good if you could add at least another 4, if not 8, or even more.

Hi Atak, Not sure if I, or anyone else has asked about this.

I find that when encoding long movies, say over 3 - 4 hours, that Ripbot doesn't complete the finished files, and there's no movie :(

I'm using DE, latest version, and the last movie that has done this is Das Boot DC, it's over 3:30 hours long, took about 1:30 to process, but has nothing to show for it.

All the chunks appear to be there, but not combined.

Another movie that did the same thing was Godfather 2.

What do you suggest ??

Cheers

Will give it a try.

@misagh72:
You can still change all settings in given folder "profiles", just browse the RipBot folder.
For example you can create a new text file and insert all settings you want to have.

But changing psy... it's your decission.

Hi Atak,

Can I respectively ask why 8 is the "limit" ???

I mean, I know you built this program, so you'd know why, but surely you could add some more, without too much trouble. :)

Atak_Snajpera

1. Too much copy paste code, adding new variables and so on
2. 16 servers would be useless in 2pass mode. on short movies some servers will stay in idle state.
3. most of users do not have many decent pcs at home.

You could always make 2 groups of 8 servers each, and encode different files, It's the same thing.
