Hello Atak_Snajpera,
I have a question for the 10-bit encoding and if my settings are correct.
Example Profil: [HIGH10 5.1] Standard Profile - HD 720p - 29,970 FPS - Without Frame Doubling - 1.78.1 - 10-Bit - Profile Game Trailer
--fps 30000/1001 --preset veryslow --tune film --aud --nal-hrd vbr --vbv-maxrate 300000 --vbv-bufsize 300000 --b-pyramid none --profile high10 --level 5.1 --keyint 30 --open-gop --slices 4 --sar 1:1 --threads 12 --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709"

why do you have to disable compression?

--keyint 30 --open-gop --slices 4 ??? why do you need these switches?

I had assumed the settings only from 720p blu-ray standard.

12th February 2013, 22:25
are you encoding for blu ray?
DTS-HD MSTR

Yes most of the time. (Blu-ray, AVCHD)

10 bit and bluray???
DTS-HD MSTR
12th February 2013, 22:37
Not here in this case it is only for PC!
So, what do you think is the best setting for 10-bit?
Atak_Snajpera

my defaults

I was just worried because the encoding is so fast with your default settings.

why do you have to disable compression?
It's causing issues with subtitles on my media server, run by plex, for streaming to iOS. While I would love to see them support the compression, I would also be interested in if I can easily disable it on ripbot for the time being.

@hoju3508
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Where can I find the file tsmuxer.meta you mentioned?
Was there any good reason to remove bluray from the encoding destinations?
It's in the jobxxx folder.

@Atak_Snajpera
Any chance to get back the Bluray-option (now only AVCHD) as destination. So I don't have to manually edit tsmuxer.meta.
Thanks a lot.

Sorry for my beginner's question, but is it possible to rip and encode two audio streams to a mkv file?
This would be useful for example if you want to have original language and the sync or the audio commentary.

Hi Atak, I can't see a response from you regarding this, reposting. If "Win 8?" was directed at me, then no: Win7Pro64
Thanks as always
Thanks Atak.

Strange DE experience. Check this video (http://youtu.be/Qfz8h5yNbXE).
You can see a couple of the servers flicking between idle and encoding. Eventually they give up, presumably because the chunks get assigned to a different server. Server 4 was showing the same behaviour before I hit record on the video, however it decided it was encoding but, as you can see at the end of the video, the encoding process hangs and it seems Server 4 got stuck on "Starting" (watch the cursor).
Cheers for any help. Let me know what info you need to assess the problem

You should also record what is happening in EncodingServer.

The encoding servers are doing exactly the same as the controller - switching between idle and encoding
Atak_Snajpera
14th February 2013, 19:33
In most cases when server is doing that it means that it has some problems with executing x.cmd from network path.
Pimp Shanti
14th February 2013, 19:37
ok, is that an access rights issue? What can I do to resolve it? It's always exactly the same servers: 4, 5 & 8
Atak_Snajpera
14th February 2013, 19:38
when servers hang try to manually execute x.cmd from that not working pc. Maybe it will give you some error then.

I have had this problem too, from time to time, can't recall what I do about it...I think I might abort that encode (as DE has an option of resuming later), and come back to it later, or even restart Ripbot.
Another strange thing happened yesterday, I had a large queue encoding with DE, and then it stopped saving the final encoded file to it's destination folder....so I just restarted Ripbot, and it worked OK again.
Pimp Shanti, curious about what pc's you have, and what type of file you were encoding, as there was a pretty high fps showing in that youtube clip.
Cheers

Thanks for the info Burt.
You're kind of right; aborting the encode, saving progress and then resuming does result in a finished encode but that's only because the chunk that got stuck gets reallocated to a different server and, assuming that server isn't misbehaving too, the encoding will complete. So the problem gets avoided, rather than fixed.
Yeah we're a bit spoilt here, we've got 8x i7 quadcores @ 3.7GHz. We've actually got another 4 of the same machine sat here as well so I'm probably one of the few people that wishes Atak had made more server slots available! Still, it would be nice to get 8 running properly first.

I don't know what you mean (no change there!)
What is x.cmd? You mean a single encode on that machine only?

when server is switching from idle/encoding execute //client-pc/Ripbot264temp/jobx/x.cmd in console
where x is an integer number
@burt123
see folder with logs
Pimp Shanti
15th February 2013, 13:22
There is no [integer].cmd in the temp folder. These are the cmd files I can see:
job1_EncodeAudio.cmd
job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd
job1_EncodeVideoPass2.cmd
job1_MuxFiles.cmd
job1_RemoveEmptyFolders.cmd
MP4Extract.cmd
MP4getinfo.cmd

I have an i7 2600K @ 4.7Ghz, (Windows 7) and an i7 3770K @ 4.7Ghx, (Windows 8) both running 4 server slots each (it makes a big difference), was using an i7 3930K hexacore @ 4.6Ghz, but I've found that the 2600K & the 3770K do the jobs a LOT faster, and using about the same power, when working together, so I do different things on the 3930K now.
I'd REALLY like Atak to add more server slots, I'm sure he could (hint hint)

Hi guys,
the "Distributed Encoding" mode doesn´t work under Windows 8 x64. I have this fault message at the Encoding Client: "ERROR: source file could not be indexed" then closed the client within 5 seconds.
Under Windows 7 x64 works "Distributed Encoding" perfect with the exactly same settings and hardware/software configuration. I dont know what i do in this case!
Please help .... :(

I don't think win 8 likes your latest version. It skips encoding the audio track. Have downgraded to v1.17.3 and all is fine now.

Hello,
I can't get it to distribute encoding. How am I supposed to make my PC see the remote PC? It says "Idle" on remote PC.
The youtube guide is very useless.
Do both PCs have to be Windows 7 or something?
EDIT: To clarify, in the youtube video @ 1:10 it shows the tools folder being automatically being copied to the 2nd PC but it never did that for me.
On my Main PC (windows 7) I have the RipBot folder in D: and on my 2nd (XP) it is stored in All Users\Documents\ which is the Shared Documents folder.

I still have had no luck getting this to work. I have tried just about everything including turning off the firewalls on both PCs.
Question: Why does the Encoding Server open up in the system tray whenever I run RipBot264.exe? Isn't the Encoding Server completely useless on the Client PC? So why would it need to be auto-opened with it?

you are asking weird questions. I hope you will figure out some day why encodingserver.exe is automatically executed.

I can't tell if that was sarcastic or not. But either way I've been following the guide @ http://www.thehtpc.net/htpc-tips-and-tweaks/ripbot264-distributed-encoding/
And i've been reading through several pages of posts here and some have suggested that you don't need encoding server.exe opened on the client PC, only on the ones that will be helping.
So far the encoding server window on the client seems absolutely useless. It doesn't connect or anything. But on the helper server, it is Idle.
