Hey Atak, is there a possibility that you could lock the bluray units tray. Since I convert directly from the disc using anydvd and have a little kid with curious fingers that has ejected the disc a few times during demuxing. It would be awesome if you could implement that.

Problem, ever since I reformatted my PC and reinstalled everything I can remember,
I can't re-encode anymore. Ripbot would mux then finish,
but nothing appears on my output w/c is my desktop.

Tried
Downloading all the latest.
Using older ripbot
uninstall and reinstall all codecs.
reinstall .net4
uninstall and reinstall graphic card forceware.

Really can't re-encode any kind of file.
It always said finished, but nothing ever appears.

Rather then crippling your computer with Default M$ cruft, you might try setting up your own rules for a set of admin accounts. using the group policy editor to set your own rules.

Sorry Ajax, I don't quite understand what you are suggesting here.
Are you suggesting I could change the access on some directories or other objects and ripbot264 would run? (possible I suppose if I knew exactly which objects need to be accessible or modifiable by all users for ripbot264 to run).
Or perhaps you suggest I should run all users as administrators with some privileges removed? (seams a rather a dramatic change to get one program to run).

Actually Ajax, I suspect you are busy enough already without instructing (a new ripbot264 user) me, how to set up his computer. I hope not to distract you from the excellent work you have done on ripbot264.

You are wrong. Colors must be the same because most of codecs use YV12 color space.

Sometimes the videos I convert for my iPod are in way too many pieces but it's rare to get. So I have no choice but convert those many pieces into one file.

For example if an episode is 40mins long then it probably will have 1-6 pieces.

Episode.1.part4.avi
.... and so on

but all adds up only around 200 - 300MB. And there isn't just one episode in the entire series Lol.

Yes, also I have encoded two blu-rays locking to DVD9 size and I fear they might as well be a little oversized too.
Personally I always lock @ 4470 just to be safe.You are right. I will begin locking to a 5-10 mb margin to be on the safe side as well.

I am going on a few that I have down loaded,they had 5 ref frames,the movie was pristine but sometimes that has to do with how well the movie was made in the first place.Bluray from disk is 4 ref frames.I have made pristine bluray encodes with your program at default and about 10gbs.

I don't know,just habit of 2 pass and wanting to control size, after using TsMuxer to mux vid and audio I see what the size was(usually 20/24Gbs movie only) I try to stay close to half the size, and it never fails me to come out with a movie that you can't tell the difference. I always do dvd's with crf20.Blurays I only do the video and mux the HD audio back in after with TsMuxer.
How would you know what size,lock the size in mb just like 2 pass?
I may try one over night,crf 20.

Thanks thats very good info.I have got a few mkv's 1920/800 that had reframes-5. and trellis-2 I get this info from "properties" when watching in mpc-hc.When you have a "real" bluray loaded in mpc-hc it always says reframes-4. here is a example:

You're not at max 1080p resolution there (only 800 vertical), so more reference frames are allowed. If you want the precise calculation, have a look here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=150501). Your device may or may not support the use of extra reference frames beyond the formula, but should you ever desire playback on something else, you may be sorry you went too high.

ripbot is just going to demux (i.e. rip) the selected streams into your temp folder anyways. so it's not like you'd be encoding from the disc

Yeah using anydvd HD with blurays and normally I use the anydvd ripper and then point ripbot at the m2ts on the mounted iso, but it would be cool if I could just read it from disc and skip the ripping step? Is there risk of skips when reading from disc that there wouldn't be reading the ripper-verified complete copy from hard drive?

I dont know if this is where I would report a problem with RipBot264 but I noticed that 24fps sources are not automatically converted to 30fps using the iPod/iPhone profile.
Im sure you are aware that iPod Touch and iPhone both require 30fps for video playback. I realize RipBot264 has a speed setting that can be changed in the properties. However, that particular tool uses the AviSynth "AssumeFPS" filter which naturally changes the speed of the video playback.
I believe a better way to change the frame rate without affecting the playback speed would be to use the AviSynth "ConvertFPS" filter which uses a "Blend Mode" by default. It introduces minor motion blur during action scenes but it's very minimal and doesnt affect the quality of the experience as viewed on the portable devices. I tested the filter out on one of the AVS scripts that your tool generates and it seems to work fine AND the video playback speed is not affected.

Please let me know if I am looking at this the wrong way or if I am missing something =)

I was always using base4.0.

Is there a way to make Ripbot encode the audio and video simultaneously? On longer files it can take 10 minutes and up to encode the audio since it's only using one CPU core, before the video encoding actually starts.

i read through a lot of this thread and didn't see this question so forgive me if it has been asked.

on ripbot 1.15.1 when i load my video in, in the lower left hand corner it says, "please wait, indexing video stream."

main issue:
on the newest version, 1.16.0 nothing happens. when i load my video it doesn't say anything in the lower left hand corner, and my video never loads. i've left it for a long time hoping it would eventually load. i'm back to 1.15.1 for now. is this a known issue? is there a fix?

also, this is a preference question. is there a general rule when encoding 1080p down to 720p, do you keep the DTS 5.1 or go down to the 640kpbs? i've been going down to the 640kbps because the video kbps seems so much higher, but i didn't know if the general rule is to keep 5.1 DTS?

that's up to you. I would say DTS has a more full, lifelike sound and therefore should be kept. Atak would say it's a waste of space and you should use AC3. AC3 will take up a lot less space as it's 640kbps vs DTS which is generally 1509/1536 kbps (that's why your bitrate with AC3 is so much higher at the same target size)

I have some AVI files here with two audio tracks. When I import the file in Ripbot, it only demuxes the second audio track, not the first. The first is german, the second english. I only need the german stream. Is the error caused by FFMPEG or is there something missing in the command line?

I am also having the AVCHD muxing problem (after switching to the new RipBot264 v1.16.0 ) when re-encoding my Blu-Ray's to AVCHD.

Converting to .mp4 for my iPad is working fine and I also tried encoding a Blu-Ray to .mkv and no problem there either, so I guess I will have to go back to an older version to solve the problem and wait for an update that solves the AVCHD muxing bug ?

I know that I can abort RipBot while muxing and mux manually, but I was really happy with the option to have the RipBot shut down my computer when it was done :)

I`m using latest RipBot and when making x264 v1.16.0 and when encoding movies to 1280 x 5xx first pass using like no more than 20-30% cpu and second pass no more than 65-80% on my Intel core quad 8300 @3Ghz. I also uncheck that low priority button and still encoding first pass with only 7 fps and second pass 6 fps :(

Should i replace x264.exe with core2 optimized code?

I have a show that is VC1, and I'm converting the mkv from 1080 to 720. All the episodes except one went through fine using 1.16.0. For this one episode I kept getting avs2yuv.exe crashing. I switched back over to 1.15.1 and it went through fine. Any ideas?
avs2yuv crash = video decoder crash.

The source file bitrate was 19Mb, but the resulting output bitrate was only 4mbits.
