2) Now you have two choices
...a) If you want render subtitles into picture go to properties -> permanent subtitles -> select subtitles with 'FORCED' label
...b) if you want to leave ability to switch ON/OFF forced subtitles then go to selectable subtitles section

BTW make sure you don't use mp4 container if you want option b!

If a BD has PCM audio, I transcode to FLAC. To save time, I just started using MakeMKV to rip to an MKV file for later transcoding (while I'm transcoding something else). But I've discovered that RipBot doesn't recognize the raw PCM in the MKV (nor can VLC Media Player play it). I tried to demux the MKV and convert the PCM to FLAC but tsMuxer doesn't recognize the raw PCM either. This is quite odd to me since if you rip directly from the disc using AnyDVD HD, RipBot will transcode to FLAC for you.

So I'm curious why RipBot can recognize the PCM track if you choose the disc, instead of a ripped MKV file with the PCM track?

In Constant Quality mode 1080p will have higher bitrate due to higher resolution.

@Atak,

In your opinion as author of RipBot264 (forgive me if you've been asked this question many time before!), what would you recommend if encoding to mkv for play back on an htpc (disk space not so much of issue)... CQ or 2 pass?

If CQ, what setting for BD? 18 or lower, maybe 16? What about DVD?

When I run this an error shows saying "Failed to get data for 'isWhitelist'.

I've reinstalled matroska splitter, ffdshow and avisynth. The first time I saw this error was with the 1.15.0 version. Version 1.14.0 has worked fine before but it also shows the error when run 1.14.0 now.

After clicking Okay on the error the RipBot window opens. I can't add any videos because it get's stuck at the "Please Wait... Gathering information..." stage. It just sits there while the RipBot process uses no CPU.

They will be 1:1 :). You know for the longest time I thought this was bs until I researched this myself and converted a few 5.1/7.1 TrueHD/DTS-MA tracks to FLAC and did a comparison on my AVR. I was blown away. You cannot tell the difference. They're all lossless so aside from seeing the pretty TrueHD or DTS-HD LED light-up on your AVR you're not missing anything. Besides with FLAC you can also output over multichannel analog which also rocks the house.

Reason why I am asking is that I did a DVD backup (regular dvd) and it came out at 6GBs when a movie in 720 is typically only 4 - 5 (depending on audio). I am ripping them for my media server to stream to my tv, I could careless about extras etc so its only the main movie I am interested in. If I am doing something wrong what should the settings be for a regular dvd?

May be you re-authored the DVD into DVD9 which usually have higher bitrates and are around 5000 kbits and more. Those video with 4-5GB are DVD5 and bitrates is less than 5000 kbits. So try lowering down the bitrates to about 4700 kbits if you see the option.

What format are you looking for the output? RipBot264 outputs only MKV, MP4 and AVCHD. If non of these containers are the one you want to use for the streaming video then RipBot264 is not your choice.

I'm hoping someone can help with a frustrating issue: forced subtitles. I have tried to backup District 9 and a couple other disks that use forced subtitles, and expereminted extensively. I have read this thread until it becomes blurry and haven't gleaned the needed info. Can some kind person post a walkthrough of how to insert the subtitles for folks as obtuse as myself? Thanks!

it depends on how you want to do it. for district 9 I hardcoded the forced subs into the video. you can find the option to do that in the video properties (same place you go to crop / resize). if you don't want them hardcoded you just set them as selectable subtitles using the option right above your output path

Ok, I finally got my problem solved again. Some how I get bad audio nonsync problem on 1.15.0 and 1.14.6. I haven't try 1.14.5 but I got the SAME file converted without audio issues on 1.14.4. Does anyone notice it? This happens when I try to convert AVI files to MP4 for PSP/iPod Touch playbacks.

EDIT: I am no programmer but I notice some differences between 1.14.4 and 1.15.0. I can't use 1.15.0 profiles into 1.14.0. Somehow the process is skipped and I think that's because 1.14.4 doesn't have the function for weighten p-prediction feature which is require to TURN on in 1.15.0 so that the output mp4 file can be played on both PSP and iPods. At least that's why I've noticed.

Is it a good thing to just change the x264.exe files in "tools" if I want to use latest x264 builds from x264.nl? I have downloaded the 32bit and 64bit versions from x264.nl and renamed them to x264_x86.exe and x264_x64.exe. I would like to hear your suggestion. I used to do this with other GUIs and some crashed but some worked.

Here's the 50MB sample you requested. I was wondering why DGSplit was taking so long, then find out instead of just split the first 50MB it split the entire file into 50MB chunks. Here's the first chunk.

Go in to the RipBot264vX.XX.X folder. (X'es are the version numbers). Then open RipBot264.ini with notepad. Then find and change below line from:
x264LowPriority=0
to
x264LowPriority=1

I think that'll set the encoding to lower priority making it to use less resource and save more for other tasks you want to do.

lol, cuz HD encoding takes a lot of resources...it's not the program's (ripbot) fault
and why are you running 32bit if you have x64 hardware?

Cause I never could see a difference between 32 and 64 bit, but driver issue. So I went back to 32 bit.

I work in Corel Photo-Paint and Photoshop and I need alot of ram. For example friend of mine has 12GB. He does huge panoramas something like 12000+x..... On 4GB photoshop just crashes :)

k, Atak. I confirmed that something's wrong with v1.15.0 on my Windows XP Pro 32Bit system. I downloaded the 7z file twice and converted 6 files all have audio problem but just have different delay amounts. I tried with 1.14.4 and all those 6 files sync perfectly. Thx.

Yes. I did. I used same FFDShow for both 1.14.4 and 1.15.0. I get the feeling that was the one causing the problem because I used to have massive audio delays problem in XviD4PSP until I check the setting to FFMPEG to decode the source files. I'll do that when my current files are done. Thx.

DXVA is for decoding, not for encoding. Even if it could be used (which it cannot at the moment, because DXVA does not copy decoded picture into RAM) it wouldn't be able to speed up your encode because the decoding needs only a small part of the cpu time. The most is spent on the encoding. Encoding with CUDA and the like has been discussed several times here in other threads. In short: the quality is so low that x264 can beat it in quality and speed on your quad core.

If you're still interested in speeding up the decoding for your purpose and have a Nvidia card look here (http://neuron2.net/dgdecnv/dgdecnv.html).

Yup, the ffmpeg.exe files from 1.15.0, 1.14.5 and 1.14.6 don't work well for me, that's why I got audio delays. Now I'm using the one from 1.14.4 in 1.15.0 and it's working fine again.

Thanks so much for RipBot...it is great! I've actually been using it for years, but this is the first time I've had a question:

I just searched for a single word "rotate" in this thread with only a single hit (and is did not address the question)...so I guess I'm unique. But my wife keeps taking videos with our point & shoot camera in the vertical orientation.

In the past I've used VirtualDubMod and a rotate filter to correct them. But I have not done it in a while and I don't have VirtualDubMod installed on my current build. So I figured I'd ask if there is a way I can apply a rotate filter to the output from ripbot encodes? :thanks:

DTSHD-MA Problem here, its a 6.1 track from X-men The last stand. after the track is demuxed and converted to pcm its slowed down and has static present. i get the same result regardless of me using the 5.1 downmix option or leaving it alone. i have arcsoft installed and i havent had trouble with any of my other DTSHD-MA tracks. Anyone have any suggestions?

Suggestion: In the audio track dropdown, if would be great if you could list the audio specs instead of the filename. On my system I can't see the whole filename, gets chopped off, but I can see enough that I have to go look in the temp directory and play the audio track to see what exactly the specs are for it. Example of what I'm talking about: "DTS 5.1 768kbit"

Same problem here ... But to be specific, it was labeled as a DTS-ES track (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DTS_(sound_system)#DTS-ES) -- It's a 6.1 / 7.1 format that I haven't seen very often. I think The Lord of the Rings extended DVD's also uses it, but it's not very popular. After futzing around with what RipBot had to offer to no success (FLAC, Aften), I just ending up stripping the corrupt audio stream from the RipBot MKV container and replaced it with the results of the initial demux operation found in the jobs folder. After that, the movie and audio plays back fine with an ffdshow based filter chain. My $.02 is this is probably an edge case for the underlying tools.

Why do you need that? DTS icon + number of channels is not enough?

When converting some youtube videos, the output tend to have squarish block during dark scene taken in the night.
How can I improve the output?
Edit: It plays okay on MPC but when I play it on my PSP, the block appears.

i just want to convert it to 640 ac3 but it seems that eac3 converts it to pcm during the demuxing process and the result audio is slowed down and has static which is then encoded to ac3 with the problems from the pcm file. it's definitely dtshd 6.1 not a dts es file. this is straight from the blu-ray.

you could try demuxing the audio track and then adding it to the job separately. if that doesn't work you might want to consider demuxing it with tsmuxer and using the option to "Downconvert HD Audio", and then once again adding it. not really a solution but might be an easy work around for ya

i guess ill have to go that route and just mux in the dts core stream. does anyone know if its a bug with eac3to or the arcsoft decoder. i like making the 640kbps ac3 from lossless files but theres no way im going from a dts lossy core track to another lossy format.
