also, has anyone else noticed a massive speed drop in 1.9.7 im going from 200fps to about 90fps on the same source, using the same settings for PSP encodes?

because I find MeGUI to be glitchy. i'm still pretty new at this so i might not be doing things right, but it seems like I can only rip 4 out of 5 DVDs successfully, and then I turn to another program... i would love to just do it all in one program and not waste a lot of time...

i'm sure it wouldn't take any time at all to add this funtionality, and it can be ignored by casual users...

ok, this doesnt make any sense...

so i encoded a 2 hour movie with a bitrate of 1100 and got a filesize of 787 MB, which is completely wrong and is not 1100 kbps... so i upped the bitrate and reencoded with the same settings @ 1300 kbps and I ended up with a filesize of 787 MB again!

so what is going on? why is my bitrate being ignored?

Custom matrices are useless since we have AQ and PsyRDO (enabled by default)
For god sake why do you use --vbv-bufsize 768 --vbv-maxrate 5000?????

The HD-DVD.mkv file I have when the error message pops up is only 1KB.
I was very lazy and I assumed that video stream is always on first track. In your example on first are chapters :) It's very easy to fix.

As you can see bitrate in DTS is very inaccurate. This is main reason why my calculating formula is not working well. With those data I should be able to fix this for good :)

well, without --vbv-bufsize 768 --vbv-maxrate 5000 playback on the Xbox running XBMC stutters like crazy. with it, it plays just fine. not sure why this setting does what it does, but it seems to be the best setting after 50 or so test encodes with various different settings.

also, i am just trying to acheive a specific video bitrate, (i'm not worried about overall bitrate / just vid bitrate)... how can I get RipBot264 to properly use the bitrate i set? it ignores it everytime and outputs the same exact filesize every time regardless of bitrate... you see, setting the proper bitrate is key to achieving stutterless playback of h.264 on XBMC -- the higher the res, the lower my bitrate, and the lower the res, the higher I can go...

Just for an comment. I search over 5 weeks, tested all the video programs and utility for backuping my blu-ray titles on a dvd9 or dvd5 format. I have downloaded the update, 1.9.6, use an decryptor + tsmuxer to remux in m2ts just 1 language and 1 video, ripbot reconvert sucessfully my video for Blu.Ray ouput with specific size.

Everything work perfectly. Thanks for a great main programs like that. It's long, but quality is AWESOME. Im happy. Now i will can transfer an AVCHD camera output in the way.

I concur. With my insanely high settings, a 2 hour movie, on my quad-core, takes ~17 hours! No need to have that take 3x as long. :)

I'm going crazy over here because none of my encodes follow the bitrate I set -- it seems like they are fixed and never change... the only way I can achieve closer to the bitrate in mind is trying to find the CRF value that comes close to what I'm looking for... It would be nice just to know or not if others are having this problem, because then I would know its something I'm doing wrong...

There are a couple things that could be added like the ability to input custom x264 settings that arent available in the GUI. this isn't as big of a deal tho as not being able to turn off the turbo 1st pass! i always like 2 FULL passes on my material. can you make this a setting in the INI or maybe even the GUI?

Need help! I'm trying to re-encode VC1 bluray video to AVC or MPEG2. Using RipBot264, I've been able to do this sucessfully. However, the final product has a bitrate far below the original. I've tried changing most of the setting within RipBot and ffdshow without sucess. I start out with up to 25Mbps on the original and end up with 3 - 5 Mbps, just about DVD quality. I'm trying to solve the problem of streaming VC1 encoded video to the PS3. I have another solution, but it's also not without issues. Any thoughts?

Well, the resolution is 1920x1080P and I see no place to specify bitrate. Only a place to specify "MAX BITRATE" which I have set to 100000 (previously 10000). But the transcoding never reached the default MAX BITRATE.

Thank you. Good explaination. I've read the entire thread but it tends to get caught up in minutia and jobs I'm not interested in performing. I don't need to be an expert in cars in order to drive one. I just need to know how to drive.

You do however need to be an expert in mechanics to rebuild one... For your knowledge if any. You are rebuilding video like rebuilding a car certain rules need to be fallowed in order to get it to work correctly...

Proverbially tossing a wrench into the fan belts by changing properties you know nothing about can cause irreparable damage to you encoded Video...

The creator of this GUI Project Works very hard in his free time to make it as simple as he can so dolts like you can easily encode Video to mp4 mkv and BluRay...

(The presets are there to save you time and effort and are set to give you the best quality)

Bit-rate doesn't mean quality... I could encode a video from 30Mbps to a Variable using CQ between 15 to 6Mbps and never miss anything in quality

Atac is a great guy for not charging upwards of 50USD for this app plus one on one help to figure out the problems you are having... (so do us all a favor and loose the attitude b4 you inquire again)


PS. Atac We might need to put a "For Dummies" Guid Up... And no mode change is not hard to find, I just needed to know WHAT to change.

I came here asking for the same thing: high-quality VC-1 -> AVC transcoding. Atak kindly advised me to use ESA + RDO Level 2. So I did. And now I use CQ and CRF = 18 (which I read is near lossless). Then I copied the HD-Bluray profile into a custom MAX profile with these settings, and now everything is super-shiny. :)

I'm quite a newbie too, so I'm sure Atak will occassionally have a hard time dealing with the frustrations of us noobs. :) But I hope he keeps remembering that his program exists precisely because not everyone is a video expert. :) I, for one, like to think of myself as so many of my friends: knowledgeable to work DVD Rebuilder and such reasonably sensibly, but not much beyond that. Stepping into the HD world, I assure you, can be a bit daunting at first. :)

But yes, thanks be to Atak and his great program! I even had it build in subtitles recently; and even that went without a hic-up!

what most newbies should do, like i did, find a nice short demo test clip and use that to test out the gui settings. something about 10 mins long and then you can just try the CQ modes and such without too much hassle to find something your looking for. not like there is a lot in rb264 that needs to be worried about, thats kinda its point (i think!) :D

"DirectShowSource: RenderFile, the filter graph manager won't talk to me."

Still not working for me. I'm using FFDSHOW Rev1980. Should I be using something different?

Well, I just tried the ffdshow_rev1990_20080608_xxl.exe and that didn't work. So I tried the experimental x64 build ( ffdshow_rev1975_20080525_clsid_x64.exe ), and RipBot264 doesn't even recognize it being installed... (I think because it installs to my Codec Package's directory and not the FFDSHOW directory inside of the Program Files folder...)

Either way, I'm guessing this isn't a FFDSHOW problem for me... what other suggestions do you have?

Ok, so I removed my Vista Codec Pack completely and only installed FFDSHOW. Nothing else is installed on my system, but RipBot264 will not open this file! It plays fine on my computer, so why wouldn't RipBot open it???

yeah the 64 bit one only works with 64 bit apps, which rb isnt.

if you have a codec pack, full uninstall it.

You should have 3 things installed on system: AviSynth 2.5.7 , Haalli media splitter , FFDshow . Nothing more! Vista Codec pack lol :) Codec pack generation :) remember. Less is sometimes better :)

Ok, cool... I removed every codec from my computer, reinstalled the Haali Media Splitter and the newest FFDShow (updated today) and everything worked out! It must have been an issue with the Haali Media Splitter that came with the codec pack... Thanks a lot for all the input!

This might be a sticky, since I'm sure there are a lot of other users out there using K-Lite and the CCCP codec packs, and this might be not the best options for them...
