Hello!
I updated to the latest version of ffdshow and Java during a fresh install of my system and now I am observing a problem in the "Gather Information" stage, when editing and closing Picture Properties (Cropping, Resizing, Subtitles, etc.).
What used to take 1 second tops is now taking well over a minute.

The System is running Windows 8 Enterprise x64 with all updates upto 28-04-2013. Looking forward to a fix.

I'm trying it out anyway, to play around with distributed encoding. That's my nitpick for the day, I guess.

(I know its likely required to send frames for Distributed encoding, but outside of that if I don't use that feature is it really required?)

Further to the Longer "Gathering Information" time (which unfortunately is not fixed even with a lower version of FFDshow), I have observed that Audio Normalization has stopped working.
Although RipBot is set to 200% Normalization, the soundtrack is barely audible compared to what 1.17.3 did.
Help on fixing this would be very much appreciated.

I just finished a 2-pass and it seems like everything completed fine with the encode, but I still had a window pop up at the end about the encoder having stopped responding. After I closed that it went on with muxing etc and and I checked the end of the file and it appears to be complete.

But the size is way under what I was expecting. I had a size goal of 8150MB but the video came out at 5GB. total file size after muxing only 5.5GB So there is some eyebrow raising on my end. My command line was nothing special --level 4.1 --preset medium --tune film --vbv-bufsize 62500 --vbv-maxrate 62500 --open-gop --keyint 250 --min-keyint 25

Prior to this I'd been doing rock solid test encodes via MeGUI all day long for 3 days straight without a hitch.

make sure that your pc is 100 percent stable. for cpu stabilty use linx (LINPACK GUI) for memory use memtestx86

btw what is duration of your footage?

As far as I know the PC is stable. I've done CRF's and 2-pass at constant load (heavy settings) for long periods of time. The footage was 2h:32m which matches the duration of the movie source (The Dark Knight). I didn't thoroughly inspect the footage however. I'm going to write it off as a fluke for now though.

I did get distributed encoding setup though. It seems pretty nice. Netted me a few extra FPS for sure.. Slightly above real time for 1080p. Makes me want to upgrade the Phenom II x4 in my HTPC to an FX 8 core, heh..

Problem with more than 16 subtitles has been fixed some time ago in BDSup2Sub. Unfortunately new version (5.x.x) has different command line syntax. This means that I would have to spent some time on that. Thanks for reminder because I completely forgot about that.

Just a minor issue, but a bit of an annoyance.

When I close Ripbot, the encoding server icon stays in the system tray until I hover over it to make it disappear. Maybe its the way you're terminating it?

those zombie icons in tray are very common. ffdshow icons and haali media splitter icon do the same.

it is odd that os can not automatically remove that icon once application is terminated.

I am encoding blu-rays to mp4 with RipBot and am having difficulty working with a specific title. Unlike most blu-rays, this one has 2 playlists for the main feature (00003 & 00004).
Could anyone please help by explaining how I could get RipBot to recognise it as 1 feature (00003.MPLS+00004.MPLS)?
I did try remuxing with tsmuxer, but realised that the chapter timing, audio sync & subtitles get affected from the point where the second stream is added to the first.

I was never able to encode a BR to mkv with chapters using ripbot264. My System ist Windows 8 Pro and newest ripbot. When I add the source ripbot shows Video/Audio and chapters but the resulting mkv has no chapters at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Disable Audio Normalization (OFF) and then manually add this to your script

You will have to use eac3to manually for that .

Yet again i have dvd files, which RipBot cant properly deinterlace or telecine. Nothing helps, dosnt matter, which settings i use, i still can see visible jagged edges in video after encoding. When RipBot does finally start to use GOOD deinterlace or telecine plugins instead of shitty ones its using atm?

Can someone provide any help, i can send vob sample and etc when needed.

Strange DVD structure problem.

I don't think this is a Ripbot264 problem but it's a related problem that some of you might have run into.
edit: MEGui gives the same result.

When running Alien VS Predator Two Disc Extreme Edition (DVD) through Ripbot.
I noticed that the subtitles were way out of sync. I at first though this a subtitle problem since there where two swedish subtitle tracks on the movie.
So i changed and ran it again, still the same problem. Then I noticed some glitches in the video, strange cuts in the intro that i did not recognize from watching this movie.

After taking a closer look at the cover i noticed there were an alternative start of the movie.
Then i took a look at the combined vob and noticed that VLC reported that it was 1h 20m long and on the cover it says 1h 37m. I few minutes difference yes but not 17 minutes.

After further investigation i found that the alternative beginning and the regular beginning is in the same vob resulting in a mashed up beginning and intro.
So for some reason both the regular intro and the alternative got encoded into my mkv.

I don't know where the error occurs if it's in the indexing of the file or if the avs is culprit.

I had to run it through dvdfab main movie mode to get the regular version out tho be able to get it right.
It is similar to the way to handle tv-series on dvd. Not optimal but working.
With TV-series you know that you need to do it but with regular movies you notice it first after the encode.

I hope this has help someone with the similar issues.

Ok so I'm having a weird issue with distributed encoding now.

My slaves all work fine, never have a problem that I can recall. But on my desktop, where I start the job from, and also have as an encoder, for some reason it radomly halts during encoding. It's status in the main client window will just say "starting" and hang there. The server status on the readout usually reads "ENCODING", but going to the server you can verify it isn't.. It still has debug output from the last completed chunk, and then looks like it tried starting the next chunk..

But I ALSO get another scenario where, the status may say "IDLE" or "Offline", (still hung on "Starting" in the main window) but if you pull up the server console, it is stuck in an infinite loop encoding the same chunk over and over again and encoding the same chunk over and (see what I did there?) . This seems to involve an access violation error, where it could not access (or modify/creaste) a path or filename for some reason.

I have to abort (thank god we can save progress) and completely exit Ripbot and then restart, as otherwise that server will not respond anymore.

Also just had a job "complete successfully" then exit and dump me back to the main jobs window, no combining of chunks, no muxing, no nothing.

Are users of Windows 8 basically out of luck using this application for now? I can't get any 2-pass encode from blu-ray to MKV to complete successfully. Encodes hang at the beginning of the second pass on a clean install of Windows 8 x64 and Server 2012. Do we have to rev back to Windows 7 just to be able to use this now?

I even purchased Nero Recode 12 to see what capabilities it has and it's garbage. Please work on compatibility!!

I need some help with forced subtitles. I own the multi-disc Blu-ray set of Star Wars, and I want to boil down the flicks so that I can load them onto my laptop in MKV format. When I begin the RipBot264 process it demuxes the flick just fine, and then when I go into "Properties" tab in Encode Settings and select Full 1080p AND also select Permanent Subtitles, the array of possible subtitles includes several limited-size English subtitle files that are obviously intended for use as forced subtitles. I then select the limited-sized English subtitle, and exit out of "Properties." However, when I finish selecting all the options (format, size, finished file location), click "Done" and then "Start," the program just stalls and tells me to "Please Wait." The program then never runs.

I've also tried to use the Selectable Subtitle tab and specifically add and choose the limited-size English subtitle, return to the Done and Start, and this time the program will run all the way to the end when the ReMux should occur, but then fails and then there is no finished MKV file. I've looked in the preview section of the Permanent Subtitles, and the displayed text says that the subtitle file cannot be opened by the program, even though it shows the subtitle file to be there. What am I missing with getting the program to recognize and open the selected subtitles and to embed that selected English subtitle file into the finished MKV file? I did what you suggested (substituted the older vsfilter.dll) but it did not help. Also, since the program will not finish using the the Selectable Subs, it doesn't create any log file. However, using the Preview Script feature and then running the script in the display frame, I get this error message: VobSub: Can't open "K:\Temp\Ripbot264temp\job1\39_subtitles_English_1080_1080.sub" (K:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job1\job1_preview.avs, line 35). the job1 subdirectory clearly shows the various subtitle files, including the several English subtitle files (including : 39_subtitles_English_1080.sup and also 39_subtitles_1080.sup.style), but for some reason it is looking for a "sub" file extension instead of a "sup" file extension. The RipBot264.ini file has the value "ConvertSUPtoSUB=1" in the ini file and it is not excepted out. Is the convert command in the ini file coming too late in the process and therefore that's why the program can't start and run? If so, is there a separate conversion program that I can run to turn the "sup" file into a "sub" file? Any help you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated. Best regards. TheBeagle

OK. I used that conversion utility and it created the required "sub" file. I then selected that converted "sub" file in Permanent Subtitles, made all the other selections, closed out the setting and clicked Start - The program began - and it's now compiling the MKV file. Adding to that - why can we not use untouched Blu Ray .SUP files?

I just muxed the SUP files for my Yamato 2199 BD's into an MKV I made this morning with Ripbot, replacing the horrible looking Sub/IDX (whatever it is) stuff that you use BDsup2sub to get and it plays back fine on my system.

Please consider adding support for muxing of untouched SUP files, and also could we get a Chapter Creator/ editor? There are some input cases where we don't get Chapters at all, but even in cases where we do get them, its still nice to be able to edit them (give names, add/remove chapters, etc). We shouldn't have to go into the temp directory and manually edit the Chapters.txt, or remux MKVs with the proper subtitle files.

Well, the somewhat bulky alternate manual conversion of "sup" to "sub" indeed cures the problem. However, there is obviously some sort of disconnect in the whole subtitle process, since RipBot264, in fact, has a specific command line in its .ini file that is suppose to accomplish conversion - it just doesn't seem to work, at least not in any time frame to allow the program to initially begin the MKV file compilation or, if using the Permanent Subtitles option, to be available during the remux.

Therefore, I would respectfully request that Atak fully investigate this issue and provide a suitable correction. If possible, I would like to only have to use RipBot264 as the single source program to be able to accomplish the entire MKV conversion, with subtitles being easily inserted, including forced subtitles, so that the whole conversion process is both smooth and reliable. I very much appreciate, as I am sure others do as well, the outstanding efforts of Atak to develop and support the RipBot264 program, and I am hopeful that he will be able to assist us in fully resolving this problem. Until Atak releases a fix, I'll just continue to manually convert the "sup" files to "sub" so that the program can recognize and use those subtitles. Now that the source of the problem has been identified, the solution should be readily achievable. Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle

yes you can just edit ripbot264.ini (do not forget to close ripbot264 before)

That explains it. I was under the impression that "1" default value for ConvertSUPtoSUB was the "on" switch setting, thus enabling the sup to sub conversion. Thanks for that info. I think it would better if some of the INI options were accessible toggled within the program itself though. And perhaps make it switchable per project so you don't have to re-rip from scratch

The Good News is that changing the ConvertSUPtoSUB command line value in the RipBot264.ini file from "1" to "0" does the trick. I used it in conjunction with the Selectable Subtitles, and the Forced Subtitle option and it produced the desired result. Please forgive if this is an expected behaviour. I did not spent too much time using RipBot264 lately.

Yesterday I wanted to shrink a BD ripped via MakeMKV 1.8.0.

I was using the latest version of RipBot264 and everything prior to this worked fine. For the mentioned BD, RipBot reported that the source MKV had no audio tracks at all although two DTS-HD streams were included.

Is this a know problem ? Another ripped BD I opened with double DTS streams was recognized fine and I could select transcoding to aac for the main audio stream.

Do I need to extract the DTS core stream only during ripping the BD in order to do audio processing within RipBot ?

Also for Atak: Regarding SUP files. If you crop your video file Ripbot does NOT account for this by either giving you a warning that the subtitle and video resolutions do not match, adjusting the subtitle positions, or resizing the subtitles for the new video resolution.

Either of those things would work in most cases except for weird cropping requirements, but at the least I think you should implement a warning to the user that there will be a problem. I don't know if this problem exists while using the default conversion on, or anything, maybe it does or doesn't? Thought I would bring this up for discussion though.

@osgZach: I haven't tried remuxing the file with Matroska Mux GUI but I can try. Although I doubt that it has something to do with the way that the file is muxed since I never had any issues with MKVs produced by MakeMKV with other tools (ffmpeg, AviDemux, mmg, etc).

Edit: I've found out the reason for RipBot not to process the audio. Both file title and path included the german Umlaut "ü":

The complete filename including path was:
c:\Video\Das Fünfte Element\Das Fünfte Element.mkv

After removing the "ü" both in filename and path the recognition / extraction of the audio tracks worked.

Don't get me wrong but local "Umlauts" shouldn't keep a program from working, shouldn't they ?

also last chunk should not be soo short . i suspect that decoder couldn't decode you video file correctly. what video file are you trying to convert. Does cq mode work with this file?
