Ok thanks. I found that and it is enabled like you show above. I moved x264_x86.exe to a temp folder to see if it would work without it but it doesn't. Thanks again.

afonic:
So if I do have a receiver that decodes DTS-MA and Dolby-THD, I need to manually demux the m2ts, have ripbot encode the video (without audio) and then use mkvmerge to join the 'raw' audio and the encoded video together, to get the full audio experience? Hmm... doesn't sound too bad, just an extra two steps.

Yes, just demux with tsMuxeR, encode with Ripbot264 (or Handbrake) the video and then mux with mkvmerge.

If you will convert Blu-rays regularly I have found that DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper greates nice quality MKV files, with CUDA support (much faster than Ripbot if you have nVidia card) and will copy the DTS-HD intact.

ok, well i kinda sorted out the .dll thing, i coudnt get the file to register at all, but I`m not getting the error from eac32 when selecting flac anyhow :)

couple of things i noticed:

1:is there proper way of pointing to specific `Default` output/working DIRs ?

2: am i wrong for thinking i should have an option .flac output, when selecting flac before it demuxes source ?

cheers

I've got..:

■ Windows 7 Profesionnal 64bit;
■ WD SSD Drive 128GB
■ Amd Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHZ Black Edition
■ 8GB DDR2 800MGZ 2X Dual Kit

With this setup, conversion time for 720P to 1080P in AVCHD BD5/BD9 is between 2.5HRS to 6,5 hrs MAX!

Here two movies in example (720P DVD5 & 720P DVD9);
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr165/8ternity/ripbot246_snapshot1.jpg

I've saved 2hrs with using SSD drive; ripbot264 are installed in this drive, buth conversion is under a 1TB SATA2 drive.

I run version 1.16.4 over an avi file with AC3 audio, and I get:

Can't open "G:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\getinfo.avs"

External Exception C000071C

The file exists on the directory.

What's wrong?

would it be possible to include an option in the next version to encode an entire folder full of files?

I've tried Mediacoder for this as it supports it as well as cuda based encoding...but it's crap. It's dressed up nicely...but still crap. The results are blockiness and files that generally end up LARGER than the original. If i try to keep the same bitrate as the original, there is tons of blocks and ghosting. Total waste of time.

Also tried DVDFab as it has Cuda support as well...same thing. File size was the same/larger...and quality was not as good.

Why Cuda based encoding is such crap is beyond me.

Ripbot gets it right every time and all I have to do is add the movie and select the ipad profile. It would just make it more convenient if it had the ability to be given a folder and it would enumerate the files within.

Supporting CUDA is very difficult programing-wise. That is why most encoders are still way behind x264.

However I have found that DVDFab in high quality mode, using CUDA, provides nice files, in about half the time x264 does.

The file sizes are not standard, as DVD Fab calculates just video bitrate - size and then adds audio.

I just ran a file (spongebob episode) through dvdfab and was watching GPU-Z and when run through high quality mode(2pass) there was no GPU usage on my 8800gts or GTX260. It did encode fast...but roughly the same speed as ripbot on the same file.

Given that, Ripbot still produced better results.

Hell if I had the skills I'd love to help out on the Cuda side of encoding. It would be awesome to see HD content encoded using both CPU and GPU and getting FPS in the hundreds.

Anyway, I still think the idea of folder support in Ripbot would be useful for more people than just myself. I wouldn't think it's that hard to implement either...but then again, I'm just familiar with vbscript and vb.net... I have no clue how Ripbot is coded to handle things.

i got a copy of dvdfab 8 to see what its like, since i have a GT260 CUDA card in my PC,

the name of the program is Dvdfab 8, but there were `Bluray ripping` options in the options panel.

I assume theres a seperate app called `Dvdfab Bluray ripper`

i hope its not what i`ve been looking at so far as it takes around 5mins just to launch the app!, each option change in the set-up panel needs an application restart, only to find it HASN`T applied the setting at al........Bloody awfull !!

Hello, I'm fairly new to Ripbot and I have a question.
What exactly is the new option Core for the audio?
I'm trying to back up my BD of Eternal Sunshine... from 1080p to 720p.
I added 2 different jobs in my queue:
1. I did not choose Core but 5.1 aften AC3 640 kbps. Choosing 2 pass with a target size of 6 gigs I get 7133 kbps (frames?)
Looking in the job folder I see the audio file is 3.46 gigs.

2. I chose Core. Selecting 2 pass with a target of 6 gigs gives me 6243 kbps. Looking in the job folder, the audio file is only 1.13 gigs.

So what is Core? Is it the lossy dts track on the BD? And seeing the size of it, is it less than 640 kbps? I'm confused...
Looking at my 2 examples, am I right to assume option number 1 will give me the best audio?
I would try both but considering a job takes about 18-20 hours, that seems like a waste just for a test.

Thanks in advance...

I haven't used the new Core option, but I would assume it's for the HD audio track - I'm probably wrong tho ;)

As for your test, drop the settings to something totally awful. I do that when doing a test encode on titles which seem to be difficult for whatever reason (I think District 9 was being obnoxious due to subtitles). I dropped all settings to minimum and let it run. I went from the avg 6-10fps on a Bluray title to the 60's. Once I got the subs the way I wanted, I cranked up the settings and did a final encode. 2-3 hours is a lot easier to waste than 18-20 ;)

Yes it is the lossy track of DTS. But it shouldn't be that small, it usually is around 1500kbps check your original BD.

Been trying to encode "Van Helsing" with ripbot after ripping with Anydvd HD.But when demuxing it gets to 66% and two little alerts come up saying ouch!,so i ok both of them and they disappear.
The demuxing starts again gets to 100% and then shows "not responding" with no new job.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same alerts come up at 66%.I also have all the relevant codecs, and i ripped the "Van Helsing"for a second time in case it was a bad rip and i'm using the latest ripbot version.Really grateful for any help.

Hi afonic,Thanks for your reply.I made a mistake in my first post when i said i ripped it with Anydvd HD I did'nt i had the movie in iso format.
I then opened it in power iso and extracted the main movie to a folder.
I tried your suggestion of demuxing using tsmuxer, but when i add the file it says some files are missing and unsupported data, but i carried on then this error shows.

Hi,

what do you mean with main movie? This is what I would do in your case:

-Extract ALL the data with PowerISO.
-Run BDInfo, load your BDMV folder to see which playlist contains the movie.
-Load that playlist in tsMuxeR and demux all the streams you need. (check the attachment for the correct settings)
-Load the demuxed streams in Ripbot and encode.

You can find downloads for all the tools you need here (http://www.dvd-guides.com/downloads/category/9-blu-ray-rip).

@fusebyte
There isn't a 64bit version of RipBot264 as of now.
The 32bit version of RipBot264 works with 64bit perfectly fine, it uses the 64bit version of x264 to encode video on a 64bit Operating System and utilizes multiple core when encoding.
x264 is the one doing the encoding, RipBot264 is the GUI that allows you to set your preference of the encoded output easily.

Tk's for answer.
I ask this, because
when encode with RIPBOT264 my CPU works around 98-100% and temperature 85°-100° celsius
when encode with MEDIACODER_x64 my CPU works around 60-70% max and temperature max 67° celsius.
I thought that my CPU with ripbot264 seeks more because it does not work in multithreading mode, but if you tell me that RIPBOT264 works with all CPU's core...

But since I prefer to work with RIPBOT264, I ask U , how can i set x264_x64?

Lighto,thanks so much!

afonic
14th February 2011, 20:31
Actually, higher CPU usage is better as the encoding finishes faster. So Ripbot does a better job than Mediacoder.

As to how to enable it, the answer is just one page prior:

---------------------
// it will use 64bit version of x264 on 64bit Windows. Up to 10% faster encoding speed.
Usex264x64=1

Both the installer version and the 7z version have x64 enabled by default. The setting is there I believe for people who wish to set it to zero in x64 windows to test how the speed differs.
Overall the x64 codec only goes at average 10~11% faster then the x86 and yes both x86 and x64 versions of the codec are mutithreaded.

Great program, best so far by mile!.

couple of question...
1:when in 2pass mode does the bitrate cover both passes, or does one pass get most of the attention more than the other ?

2: possible to have 1 pass `Bitrate mode, I.E: VBR-Contant or Average`.... make it a bit more flexible the QR mode that way ?

3:is there any good sources of info on some of the terminology for some of the advanced profile options, for instance, i know somw like QPEL, De-blocking etc...some apps give `info` if you hover over the selection...would be a nice touch :)

Wave, Flac or Core???

What is the difference?

Basically I use Ripbot to make BD9 from my blurays. I just want to keep 5.1 surround and do not worry to much about HD audio.

Which should I be choosing from the start, Wave, Flac or Core?

Thanks :)

Thanks afonic for the guide. It makes more sense now.

Also, I ripped an episode of The Pacific from my BD as a test. First time using the Core audio and the second time using the 5.1 Aften AC3 @640kbps.
The latter sounds better, am I crazy or what? Shouldn't the Core be the better one of the 2?
How can I find out exactly what's the bitrate of the Core audio?

Short info about audio options:
WAVE - Whole lossless DTS-MA/TrueHD will be decompressed to wave
FLAC - similar as above but with Flac (Free Lossless Audio Codec) compression. Better compression than DTS-MA/TrueHD but only compatible with .mkv container!
CORE - This option will extract only lossy core part. DTS 1,5 Mbps if source is DTS-MA or AC3 640 kbps if source is TrueHD

If you don't know what to choose leave default WAVE option!

Hi,

three questions,

1)When selected wave in DTSHD, does it use the lossless DTS-HD stream or does it require a commercial decoder like Arcsoft otherwise falls back to Core?

2)I selected the Core option for a TrueHD Blu-ray just now, but I didn't get a "copy stream" option in mkv format.

3)Would you suggest extracting the HD audio and reencode or just keep the Core?

I assume from the log below that I'm able to decode the full lossless DTS-HD MA soundtrack converted to a wav as Arcsoft is shown as in use, but it seems it reduces the bit depth from 24bit to 16bit.

Once the lossless DTS MA audio is decoded, I'll usually want to convert it to a 24bit 640kbps AC3 file, is it possible for Ripbot to leave the decoded DTS MA audio at 24bit or will I have to use eac3to outside of Ripbot to get a 24bit 640kbps ac3 file? Thanks

Well Arcsoft is being used alright, do you have any of their programs installed or does Ripbot contain it somehow?

It's in the Ripbot Tools, ax folder.

12034

Having looked at the ac3 file from a recently converted project, it seems that the resulting dolby audio is 24 bit, so Ripbot through eac3to has downsampled the 24bit DTSMA audio from 24bit to 16bit and then upsamples it from 16 to 24bit in the Aften ac3 conversion. That's obviously not desireable as you've lost the original 24bit quality in the downsample.

Why is there a need to convert the DTSHD-MA audio when importing (unless you just want the core)? If you've got the Arcsoft encoder installed, can't it just be demuxed to a dtshd file and then converted as required in the output side?

Why is there a need to convert the DTSHD-MA audio when importing (unless you just want the core)? If you've got the Arcsoft encoder installed, can't it just be demuxed to a dtshd file and then converted as required in the output side?

yeah, i wondered about this, why not dump the raw audio , AC3 or PCM straight to HDD when demuxing, then (assuming output file is gonna have audio conversion) Audio is only converted once ??

It's in the Ripbot Tools, ax folder.

I am not sure how legal this is, but I don't want to be a deal breaker anyway so let it be.

If you download eac3to plus some GUI you will see what the various options are and what audio it produces. What it does is decoding (not demuxing) the audio to wave format and then uses that to re-encode to AC3.

If you ask me, the audio options are not so clear in Ripbot so I just use the Core option and keep the Core track in my mkv files, since I am just passing through via sp/dif to a DTS decoder that doesn't support HD. Staxrip has more complex audio configurations with exact eac3to settings.

You might try tagging in log files with the code tags.

hi Atak

i just try to decode a ".m2ts" file into "mp4".
The program end the decoding without errors, but...
in the output directory i have nothing!!

here is the info on the ini file:
//Directory must exists!!! D:\movies\ is correct but D:\movies is incorrect!
DefaultOutputPath=D:\TempBluRay1\

and, of course, directory "TempBluRay1" on drive "D:" exist!!

i'm confused... :(

Do you have a log file?

I have been just keeping the DTS core file, but at 1509kbps it's a fairly big file. An ac3 file at 640kbps is a lot smaller but produces similar sound quality, so then I've got a better video bitrate bearing in mind that on these particular videos I'm looking at 3.95gb 720p MKV to fit on a FAT32 HDD. I guess I'll just have to convert the lossless DTSHD audio to ac3 in eac3to outside of Ripbot and then mux it to the BD before opening it in Ripbot, this way I'll avoid the loss in quality from the original lossless file (24bit down to 16bit) which Ripbot seems to introduce into the process.

Hi Atak
I’m getting this very annoying problem (I’m using vista home premium sp2 32-bit). This problem is happening with all of my bought dvds but i’ll use Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii as my example. Here’s the file I ripped from dvd to mkv using MakeMKV

A 4891 kbps source, when I set 2 pass to 3000 kbps it completes fine with no problems at all(takes about 4-5 hours), but when I set it to what the source says it is capable of (4891 kbps) right at the end during the muxing part a “mp4box.exe has stopped working” error comes up

Yes that would be a good choice. Actually as Ripbot does use Arcsoft and uses the whole lossless part, you are fine just selecting Wave and then let it convert your audio to AC3.

In my case I don't really care about the file size so I leave the Core.

No I'm not, that was my issue, when doing that in Ripbot, it downsamples from 24bit to 16bit.

I too have started getting "mp4box.exe has stopped working". Unfortunately I have not had the time to examine the output files (if any are there). The settings I use are just CQ=22 or 20 (depending on the output I want) and set my audio (always 5.1 for me).

Has anyone else received the MP4BOX.EXE error?

I've been using this software for quite some time now and love it. Thanks again Atak! :thanks:
