I love this program and i have never had any issues with it. I had to learn a bit about interlaced and progressive stuff but since then, every conversion turned out great. I still would like to ask the author a question if i may. Atak - no pressure - but do you have second audio track on your to do list?

I thought i would share my experience with using DE. First of i like to thank Atak for enabling distributed encoding. My setup consists of 5 machines, the first one is a dual CPU Xeon x5650 @ 2.67Ghz (12cores). This box serves as the host for the main ripbot control box. it has all the files stored on it and is where i create the jobs. the 4 other boxes i have vary a bit. each box comes with dual CPU Xeon L5520 @ 2.27ghz (8cores/16HT). 3 of the boxes have 24gb ram and the other has 16gb. all are running 10k scsi drives for storage and OS is 2008r2. The result is 4 encoders able to process bluray at 70-80fps. This is faster than realtime of the movie and generally i can finish a movie in about 90 minutes in 2-pass config using 10bit profile.

The interesting part is the encoder has very similar fps when doing 2-pass encoding. I dont seem to be able to break the 80fps on pass one for bluray content. My guess is that i could be running into a bottleneck on the headend server since it has to communicate all that traffic (130mbit) between all 4 encoders. I know that people have been asking for more encoders added and Atak mentioned 8. This would basically be what i'm running now if you were to use desktop quad cores. i think anything beyond that would be pointless as the overhead required to make them work would defeat the purpose. However, i suppose if you have a bunch of dual cores it might make more sense to have more than 8 but i could also argue you need to get better machines too. :)

Hope this sheds some light on what it would be like to have 8 quad core desktops as a configuration.

do you really have to use 2-pass mode? constant quality will be faster (1-pass).

if you have 1gbps lan then bottleneck won't occur. 100mbps is indeed to slow for your very fast pcs.

let's assume that single pc can encode at real time (24fps). bd movie bitrate is often around 30mbps.

30mbps * 4 pc = 120mbps

ups bottleneck ...

Whenever I get an HIDE error, it's because I'm out of space on the temp drive.

I've got plenty of space on all drives, and the problem only occurs with that specific file-name. Could someone please try to reproduce the problem? I've tried with both 1.17.1 and the update for it.

While the D.E. has begun encoding on two machines, I use a third machine to log to the first using R.D. Connection.
That's when the error appears.

If I'm already connected and start the procedure from the beginning, everything goes fine.

Hi Atak_Snajpera. When trying to add a DVD which contains no subtitles, it goes through joining the VOB's and the usual, then gets to "Demuxing Subtitles" (according to the status message at the bottom of the encoding settings window) and just stays there. I had a look at the LogFile.txt and it correctly lists that there are no subtitles, so I'm not sure why it's trying to demux something which isn't there.

I'm using 1.17.1 on Windows 7 x64.
I still had a installation of 1.17.0 on my machine, so I tried the same DVD on that version, and it adds in fine...

Edit: Oh, I also tried the update for 1.17.1 a few pages back, and it made no difference to the issue.

It happens with .m2ts or .mkv thus far - I cant speak for .avi or .mp4 - tried different movies, same result - not sure how I suddenly landed with this error.

I was trying to understand your tool flow - how the hand off happens from the ripbot264 to encoder client.. I saw it say "copying tools" - next thing I expected it to see was indexing but thats not happening?

Umm...copied? where? They exist on all the machines in the same paths and it worked before - used it with 1.17.1 beta 2 you gave me on several encodes...

I removed all custom plugins and I still end up with the same issue - so, I dont believe thats the issue - please let me know if there is anything else I can check. Thanks again.

Really? Last time this happend, I just switched the SAME encode to another machine with the same exact Ripbot version and everything else and the D.E worked fine but I hate switching around. I would like to debug this and fix.

That didnt help because it only created video.mkv.ffindex file but the encoder client is missing/looking for video.mkv.ffindex_track00.kf.txt

Progress!! - the chunks are created the encoder client loads all the chunks but encoding fails - the GUI keeps toggling from "Encoding" to "Idle" - command line execution shows it has trouble resolving the machine names?? "nbtstat -a", "ping -4", \\pc-7" all work!

The share got re-named "Ripbot264temp2" by windows [OS] when a different drive got the drive letter temporarily until I fixed it and so the path was invalid - so I unshared it and re-shared it again with the original name [Ripbot264temp] and applied original permission settings [everyone - read/write] and all is well!!

Thanks for putting up with my ignoramus debugging - all because of an oversight!

On the latest version of ripbot264; 1.17.1 all audio and subtitles tracks demuxex are not recognized the language. It's all "Undetermined" so we need to mediainfo all sources to know which language this is (audio and subtitles).

Did you need info?

All was well until my D.E went into pass2 and the encoder client just crashed with a OS message saying "not responding" - dead -poof - I dont see a progress/running log for the encoder client?

And, when I re-start the encode, its starting all over from the beginning :(

I've been trying to get to the bottom of this one for a while. :-(

I just had a 4 hour 42 minute encode do this with 7 seconds remaining and I just started it over. It's random in the respect that it won't always happen even when redoing the same movie... or if it does it will happen at a totally different spot.

I've duplicated it on a Phenom II X4 965, X6 1100T, X6 1090T, Core 2 Q9650, Core i7 965, and a Core i7 2700k now. Usually restarting the job fixes it.

Maybe if the encoding client updated it's current status periodically rather then only when the Abort command is issued, restarting because of this wouldn't result in the loss of already processed chunks.

On a side note, I also noticed that you could start a job, abort it, change any settings and then resume it. If you weren't paying attention you could have half of a 720p movie backup tacked onto half of a 1080p movie backup, or some other combination. :)

1) this is exactly what i decided to implement this morrning. new version will save encoding progress immediately after number of encoded chunks increases.

2) yep something has to be done in this case. some warning ... i don't know yet.
