Filesizes is weird in the new versions - not BD but DVD.
A 1 hour and 40 mins movie using CF20 is 980 MB ???
It looks like s...
BD to MKV no problem, its the same as always.
------------
Just tried same movie using 2-pass 2048 - it looks a lot better and filesize is 1.4 GB

MPC HC uses completely different filters/decoders. I would recommend MPC HC as well (make sure you grab the latest beta)

correct blu-ray structure looks like this
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3532/86816044.png
you will have to compare both movies with your own eyes.
Making that change works perfect for the sample provided. However, when making the same change to the original rip. RipBot is able to detect everything except for the chapters.

I did with another movie, which made a big change in bitrate.
CQ22 8.78GB 11.1 Mbps bitrate with 640Kbps AC3
CQ20 5.11GB 6.5 Mbps bitrate with variable FLAC
It looks like the larger version is better - mosquito noise might be similar, but it looks sharper. The smaller version looks a little softer.
Does anyone know of changes in the x264 codec? It would be nice to know if they did, I have already spent tons of time comparing. :(
I know that each video is different, but if it is known that the newer version of the codec provides x-y% better compression in general it would be very nice to know.

Any particular reason I don't get the chapters option when playing back the file with my WDTV??? I've demuxed with ts muxer, stripped the audio file with eac3to, and used ripbot to finalise the file if you get what I mean. :/

I used CQ and QualityLevel 18.

Hi all,
I was just wondering ;-) Does ripbot have the ability to create two audio streams?
I'd like to convert a movie from one of my blu-rays to 720p mp4 so I can play it on both my PS3 and iPad. Unless both the PS3 and iPad supports 5.1 AAC?
If not I'd have to use 5.1 AAC for the PS3 and 2.0 AAC for the iPad. The reason for me posting this question is that I don't get the iPad till next week so can't test it.
Thanks

Should I have xvid decoded by xvid or libavcodec in ffdshow video decoder config?
Could you tell me what I should have set for Other MP4,
Raw Video (it's disabled at the moment - Should it be set to YV12?)
VC1 (set to wmv9 at the moment)
H.264/AVC (set to ffmpeg-mt). Would really appreciate the help.

so it looks like you've done all right

Hi, first off great program, nice and easy and gives awesome quality..
I have a problem though and a few questions I hope some one can help me with, sorry if its been gone over before, 400+ pages is a bit much to go through :)
Ok, I cant use the denoise filter at all, every time I select Film or Ani the preview wont work (just gives a blank screen in MPC, and the movie wont encode (click start and it says done after a couple of seconds with no error) Obviousy with some blurays being a little noisey having this filter would be nice. If I turn the filter off it all works fine.
And why cant we select 640 kbps 5.1 audio with MP4 ? can with the other options like MKV etc.. can only pick 320 kbps 5.1 for some reason. Am unsure of the quality difference but im guessing it would be a bit.
And last question, what file size should I be aiming at ? I know that depends on a lot like the movie time etc.. but with 1.5 hour movies I get around 5800 KBPS when I set the size at 4gig for converting blurays to 720p MP4.. is this over kill ? can anyone tell me what KBPS I shouldnt go under ? like would 2400 KBPS give the same quality ? Just wondering if it was overkill and I might be able to fit 2 movies on a dvd instead of just one.
Thanks for any help with the above.

Personnaly i used it. When ripbot264 dexumed to all drive all files in the temp folder, i calculate properties on the french audio track, took the file size, calculate 8150 - audio size = results ex.: 6144 MB, wrote 6125 and remuxed manually when project is done.
It's what i do. Sometimes, when DTS tracks, before- project is done, i convert it with eac3to GUI to AC3 640 and calculate before starting the project. after project finsished, i took the m2ts converted and add the other language and remuxed in a new folder.
DTS = 8125MB - other language size = conversion size and approximate to 25,50,75 mb ex. (7125mb, 6050mb etc).
They have HDConvertToX offer multiples languages, but a little more complated to use then ripbot264. I prefer ripbot264 because i've got better conversion quality and less brain pain for getting worked thoes softwares. Ripbot264 is so easy and great to work. Also, atak offer great support with many members here helping peoples.

maximal bps for CT-AAC encoder is 320000 bps. Also AAC is newer and more efficient than AC3/DTS. I doubt you will hear difference between AAC 320kbps and AC3 640 kbps.

You shouldn't aim for any size. Just select CQ@22. One pass (faster) and you get constant quality for all video collection. If you are not satisfied with quality lower value to 20 or 18 (lower = larger size and better quality)

You will see no difference. BTW, I would not rip to an SSD. SSD is not a HDD, many write accesses will slowly destroy your SSD. Those drives are for installing Windows on it an boot it up faster, not for transfering tons of GBs. You also have to disable some Windows Services like defrag, indexing... and copy your swap file to a HDD.

This GUI is great. Much faster and easier to use than AutoMKV and a few others I've tried.
I've had no real issues with it yet, once I familiarized myself with it.
One thing I have noticed, MKV to MKV conversion is not very fast, as opposed to AVI/MP4 to MKV.
Aside from that, this is the best GUI around.
I've converted about a dozen films so far, and only had trouble with one, but that was my fault.
Also, I've had better results using the 2-pass method. The CQ works well, but the 2-pass is better quality for me.

is that because the mkv is in HD vs the avi/mp4 in standard def? or the mkv is a longer video, lower AR, etc.

one mode is not 'better quality' than the other. if you're getting better quality with 2 pass it's because you have a high target size possibly compared to a high (lower quality) cq value set. if you don't need to hit a target size drop your cq value until you get your desired quality. you can type 16, 14, etc numbers in if 18 is not good enough

Hi,
I used only that drive to run windows on it with my photoshop programs and filter. I convert always with another drive, same for decompression.
You dont really need to defrag on that kind of drives. For now what i could say is just awesome.
i've read over 20 forums and follow up all threads about the fiability of the drives. Many websites are more than 1 at 2 years of drives models and technology.
Personnally, it's a pleasure to try, and if a problem occured, WD warranty it for 5 years, and also they rated over 1,400,000 hours of used.
For now, i can't said that i was not happy of mu purchass, i like when my computer bring me what i click right away! Don't blink your eyes, you will miss the windows appear lol!!! :p
Also your website has verry many olds models, and also update latest news from 2009! Many drives has been better from just the last 3 months. I shop them from the last year. My friend took an intel one last year, and verry love it! No problem at all! My Western digital has better specs and rating in the market. And they also test it in their lab!

My converted file size is smaller with 2-pass, because I set it smaller, usually around 400MB.
I'm not ripping BR or HD, just standard DVD.
I have alot of rips on my hdd, in AVI, that I ripped with AutoGordianKnot.
I'm now converting them to MKV and smaller file sizes to save on hdd space.
The MKV I was converting, was one of the first AVI files I converted with RipBot264, before realizing how to set the target size.

No problem. I appreciate constructive comments. It's just i have ear many bad comments from peoples has never try SSD and i have some friens purchass it and personnally i has shopping over a year and read a lot of comments, read professionnals reviews, checks some end users reviwes on youtube, etc. Last year i was planning to get the OCZ or kingston V-Serie, but when i saw Western Digital with all their comments and latest reviews about it, and the price under 300$ for a 128GB, i've been in love with that drive. When i have them on my hand,:confused: verry light!
Personnally, i can't complaint on it. I will see in the next month if the drive performance will stay fast and constant for the speed, performance and fiability.
About the conversion, i has never used my main drive for conversion, downloads... I used the drive only for OS and all softwares installed. all temps folder are hosted in another drive.

Finally I'm allowed to post in this forum.
First of all, I'd like to thank you for the great tool you've made. I'd never get into x264 encoding if not for tools like yours.
I'm posting here because I'm doing a lot of DVD->MKV (MPEG2->x264) encoding and your tool has a fundamental parameter missing from the “muxfiles” command line: the "--aspect-ratio" parameter.
Why is it fundamental (to me, at least)?
As you well know, PAL DVD's have a frame resolution of 720x576 and NTSC of 720x480; for a 4/3 aspect ratio DVD, that would give a DISPLAY aspect ratio of 768/576 (PAL) or 640/480 (NTSC); for a 16/9 DVD that would be 1024/576 or 853/480, respectively. These are the “display resolution” values; if they are not passed to the “mkvmerge” command line, e.g. “--aspect-ratio 0:1024/576”, media players will not automatically set the correct aspect ratio.
Furthermore, most DVD's have black borders, which I crop for encoding/file size optimization; so, for a 16/9 PAL DVD with margins cropped = (40, 4, 44, 4), I would pass the parameter “--aspect-ratio 0:1013/492”.
It all has to do with original pixel display aspect ratio. I’ve made a small tool for calculating the correct values; you can download it from here (with Delphi7 source code included): (http://www.4shared.com/file/tI6K6tU5/mkv_arc.html).
Some people would say: “Hey, you got to resize the video, moron”, but that’s plain wrong; video frames should *NEVER* be resized at encoding time unless you have a very good reason for it, e.g. obey some standard or to retain video quality while reducing file size. Since I’m aiming for superior video quality, I will never resize video frames at encoding time.
While my tool is helpful, it’s fastidious to manually edit the “muxfiles” command line when I’m encoding lots of DVD’s; plus, changes to it are lost it if I accidentally edit the job, so after I manually edit the command, I set the read-only attribute. It’s a pain in the *** to add 10+ jobs.
Can you please, please, please, fix this issue on your next release? I don’t think that would be too hard to implement it, I think…

I didn't mean to lecture you on a subject that you clearly know much more about than me; I’m pretty sure that you knew all that, I just wanted you to understand beyond any doubt what the heck I was talking about; and I offered the source code not because you would need it, but because you might think that the EXE could contain some kind of trojan/malware on it.
I thought that I was being constructive and I think that (at least) some users might welcome this small improvement to this great tool…
Of course that you alone will decide if it should be implemented or not, but discarding it as a non-issue it’s a mistake, I think…

I was wondering if any of you use the denoise filter and how much it affects the encoding speed?
Oh, and a suggestion, it would be great if we could specify names for video and audio tracks.

Denoise filter works on GPU (pixel shader). It shouldn't effect encoding very much.

Have you tried it without "editting" the muxing, etc ...
Works perfectly fine ... what you are doing is called ANAMORPHIC encoding and Atak confimed Ripbot264 does it AUTOMATICALLY when the above resolutions are detected ...
Here's a novel thought, try it without any "editting", cause it works flawlessly for me every time ...

Well, not for me. If I do not add the --aspect-ratio parameter, the video won't play with correct aspect ratio neither on VLAN player nor Windows Media Player Classic.
Depending on source and crop parameters, the correct aspect ratio differences may be very small and you won't really notice them without comparing screen-shots, but I've had cases where the differences are very clear and that's what called my attention to this "problem"!
I'll test an incorrect aspect ratio file on other machines to rule out a filter problem or whatever on my machine...

I've made several tests with a PAL 16/9 DVD sample source of 2010 with ~1m:22s (it has very stable margins, older DVD's will have not), and uploaded them here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/VNkafSt8/RipBot_AR_Thing.html
All encoding parameters were the same except margins (72,4,72,4), resize options & aspect ratio parameter. In my system the only MKV's that exhibit correct aspect ratio are, of course, files #1, #4 & #5.
Now take a look at file sizes and bit rates (with Media Info). It's very clear to me that best results are achieved as I say: croping black borders and adding the "--aspect-ratio 0:1013/432" parameter to muxing command line, i.e. MKV #5.
All files, including source dvd sample and AR tool with Delphi7 source code, are available here if you want to do your own tests:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/cwhn85ME/MKV_ARC.html
Right now, the only doubt in my mind is this: is it better to round the AR calc to nearest integer, i.e. "1013" or should it be rounded to nearest multiple of 4, i.e. "1012"?
I humbly submit to the author that RipBot264 should have these 2 options available:
A checkbox to include corrected aspect ratio on command line whenever cropping is used but not resize; in this case, checking it would add "--aspect-ratio 0:1013/432" or "--aspect-ratio 0:1012/432", whichever is found to be best.
The "size" drop-down box should include an option to resize taking into account not only original aspect ratio, i.e. 16/9, but also the crop margins, i.e. resize to 1012x432.
PS: unpacked MKV's file size = 46750405 byte while the 7z packed size = 28294783 byte! I didn't know that x264 encoded files could compress so much! The MPEG2 sample sure doesn't compress as much...

@stasi:
Did you have a bluescreen with your ssd drive?
-I convert an mkv 1080P dvd9 in 5h49m55s.
I have also convert another one should take about that 5-6 hours.

@toullaf
It's better to handle aspect ratio with x264's --sar switch, same is true for audio delay, it should be corrected before muxing. Depending on crop and resize options RipBot can produce files with wrong aspect ratio, this is true.

Hallo everybody.
I would like to use the program for backup my bluray: I have found it easy to use, with many useful options, but I have not found the ability to backup them without video compression, for having a real backup of my disc.
I could use other programs for this purpose, but RipBot allows me to easily include, for example, the subtitles that I want, without using other applications such SupRip, or merging them with the video permanently.
In short, the program is perfect for what I want to do, but I miss the option to copy video and audio without compression: there is the possibility that you can add this option?
Thanks
