No, it doesn't matter what menu you'll select - it won't be generated anyway. There is a special button [SD-DVD] after you click [START]. It will produce DVD output. Once you follow the steps in my previous post, you'll see the title name colored in BLUE in media tab.

Got it.
Last thing: coming from a 1920x1080 at 23.976 would you recommend keeping whole stuff NTSC (same framerate and 720x480) or going 720x480 resize than applying uncrop 720x576 and 25fps (and eventually applying Pal speedup...) my DVD standalone is capable of converting NTSC to Pal but for legacy compatibility?

I was thinking about that yesterday... Still it is better to keep all in the original framerate... This of course means that you'll get 480p instead of 576p = less detail... If you're going to do it, use resize 720x576 + uncrop 720x576. The availability of the 576p depends on the TV system setting in AUTHOR tab. Make sure to set it to "PAL", otherwise the uncrop-box will show only 720x480.
I'll experiment with PAL 576 to see if there will be any motion blur after the encoding.
I'd suggest to do some tests first, check the quality and all and then go for the big Blu-ray titles :)

I did few tests with 23.976 -> 25.000 and as it seems the best option is the one implemented.
* Using dgpulldown to convert 23.976 to 25.000 causes blurring + one sharp frame each second
* Using ChangeFPS, causes slight stutter each 1 second
* Using 23.976->29.970 and then down to 25.000 causes constant blur
The implemented "ConvertFPS" seems to work much better than the above mentioned. There is a slight motion blur, but it is the best one can get.

It is greyed out, because you're missing some of the tools. You didn't do a full-download and you don't have them. Download (http://download.videohelp.com/deanbg/multiAVCHD_4.0.exe)the complete package and install it in the same folder where your multiAVCHD is.

Ah great then! I'm glad that it works on 64-bit then. I'm going to have to fiddle with it some more I suppose then. My system seems to be having problems loading m2ts files that contain VC-1 video through Directshow source. It requires further investigation.
Thanks deank for your fantastic application!

@Adub: There are some tweaks for VC-1 and win7... There were some posts in the thread of BD-Rebuilder. I'm glad you like multiAVCHD :)

Yeah, I'm aware of the tweaks. I've tried all of them. Most of my video is working, just the VC-1/M2TS is not working.
Oh, and I have a bug to report.
While creating a SD-DVD from Inglorious Bastards Blu-ray, Multiavchd errors out saying that it had a problem with my ffdshow/avisynth/haali setup. I did as your log suggested and through the example script into Virtualdub. It runs just fine.
I am using 64-bit version of all of my programs, ffdshow, avisynth, haali and virtualdub.

You can't possibly have 64bit stable avisynth working. You need all 32bit versions of these tools (ffdshow, avisynth and haali), not 64bit. You can however use 64bit x264, but you'll need proper version placed in tools folder as x264_64.exe and set it in SETTINGS tab.
I'd suggest 1st to get all going with 32bit tools in win7 64bit environment, then experiment. Either way, speed gain is insignificant, and you already lost it for 4-5 months ahead :) trying to use the wrong versions.
Adub
22nd March 2010, 20:21
Wait, why can't I have 64-bit avisynth working? JoshyD's builds run just fine. I have 64-bit versions of everything that I need and the scripts load fine in Vdub.
Or am I misunderstanding your post? Are you saying that MultiAVCHD only supports the 32-bit version of Avisynth?
deank
22nd March 2010, 20:28
No... it doesn't care what version you have as long it is working. It is as simple as this: multiAVCHD needs directshow video-pin to open the video. Opening the .avs in vdmod doesn't prove anything. You need to be able to play it with regual player like MPC or WMP - i.e. a player which uses directshow and not its own filters.
And to put it simple again.... multiAVCHD needs avisynth to be able to parse and frame-serve:
Directshowsource("your_video_file.xxx")
That's about it. Nothing else. What codecs or operating system you have or you're using - it is up to you.

It depends on what you're going to do. Do not enter re-author mode, because you can't remove playlists. After you import the folder, use the [remove] button and remove all playlists except the largest one (or set higher value in "Do not import AVCHD/DVD playlists if shorter than: **** seconds" in AUTHOR tab - for example 3600 and you'll get only the playlist longer than 1 hour).
@crl2007: I'd like to keep multiAVCHD as an authoring application, not as 'video converter'. There are a lot of 'file-encoders' out there already.
Great! So whats the re-author mode for (if its not a stupid question!)?
Edit: one other thing. I removed 5 audio streams and the output size estimation didn't change. Does it not take into account audio streams?

I'm doing some experiments...is it better to demux HD streams and give them to MultiAVCHD as mkv video and audio stream inside a remuxe .ts (whichever it is) or to give m2ts? I'm talking performancewise.
Then: I downloaded the full proggie per your advice yesterday in the afternoon. Yet autoupdate keeps telling me if I wish to update to 738+ . If I say yes then it downloads the update but after install and proggie restart it asks again for the SAME version. What's up?
Thanks

The less you pre-process the input, the better the chance that everything will be okay. So leave the mkv as mkv and the m2ts as m2ts :)

p.s.
* A quick fix: SUP/PGS subtitles created for 576i/576p resolutions were in 480i/480p, causing them to display much higher than supposed to. It is okay now.
* Encoding preview will auto-close aprox. one minute before completion of the re-encoding to avoid a file-lock of the output video file.
* Few fixes when multiAVCHD fails to create some of the menu pages - at least it won't crash with RT error, but will continue

Ok. When I was previously talking about demuxing streams to mkv and AC3 and remuxing to.ts i was anticipating possible issues that has have just happen.
lets say 2012 has two audio tracks both DTS-MA .
MultiAVCHD tells nothing about respective language so we just can choose to encode both or we use MeGui's HDDVD/Bluray streams extractor (which uses eac3to) to know which one is our desired language.
I did, and it was the second audio track in DTS-MA.
I removed from MultiAVCHD the first DTS-MA track and...surprise...it encoded the wrong one.
I.e.: MultiAVCHD inverted the order of the audio streams.
I've double checked by means of extracting via the above mentioned tool...yet I wish to check it again...
BTW: SD-DVD single pass

To avoid further bug reports about something as simple as file-names...
multiAVCHD will now check all files and folders and paths and if a filename/path contains non-supported characters media will not be imported.
Supported symbols: 0123456789 a-z A-Z .!@#$%^&()_-=[]{} A-Z range includes only ANSI characters, so no ó or á for example and no cyrillic :( too like Деян :)
That is in build 739.
90% of 'tsMuxeR refused to process' error messages are caused by using non-ANSI characters in the file paths/names.

Yes, duration of elementary streams cannot be detected/calculated properly before they're muxed into a container.
Does this mean the camdump.264 file, that's created from the joined m2ts files, cannot be properly displayed in the preview window? I'd like to choose additional chapter points-not just the segment beginning points. Without a full preview of the joined files, I have to manually calculate the additional chapters. Or, get those times during playback of the finished title and re-do the compilation.
deank
23rd March 2010, 16:49
It is displayed, but the preview-time-stamps do not match the real position in the video. There is no way to overcome this setback, unless the file is muxed into a container like mkv or m2ts.
An easy thing to do is to do it yourself: load the .264 and the .ac3 files in tsmuxer_gui and create a m2ts file then use it in multiAVCHD. I see no other way... Of course it is possible to add auto-put-in-a-container :) but it will require as much HDD space as the original so you'll end up having 3x the size of the source: 1) the original, 2) camdump.264+ac3, 3) camdump.m2ts...

MultiAVCHD tells nothing about respective language so
It definitely puts the language ID in the LID box in title properties.

If you import a M2TS file from a blu-ray disc it may show UND... You need to import the PLAYLIST (.mpls) file to get the correct language IDs.

Dean,
Thanks for your suggestion to use tsMuxeR. I tried it to mux the 264 & ac3 files. Loaded that file and also the camdump.txt file. I then put in additional chapters using the preview window. All is well. This is much easier than the options I used before.
Yes, anything you can do to make the joining process easier would be appreciated. Could there be a button/option to invoke tsMuxeR, mux the files, load the m2ts file, and replace the camdump in the media listbox? Or would that get messy?

Hello Dean!
I have a problem: I'm trying to convert a mkv file that has 3 S_VOBSUB subtitles embedded on it, but multiAVHCD doesn't shows up the subs after encoding. What can I possibly doing wrong?
I've tried to extract the subs with MKVExtractGUI, but it only generates a sub file (without the IDX).
EDIT: in log file, MAVCHD says that the file have o subtitle track. Why?

Someone else posted about problems with S_VOBSUB subtitles. I'll need to check if I have such sample and will test it again.
Is the SUB file you got a text (frame-based like {xx}{yyy} text) or a binary one?
edit: I don't see any reference about subtitles in your log.

Dean,
Any news regarding Samsung Players not Playing MultiAVCHD Compilations? I have a friend who works in a Local Store who tried 3 Players of various model numbers( I will try to Verify Models). Very Strange as I have not encountered this with any other Brand myself.

I've tried to open the sub file with notepad and now I can confirm: it's a binary one. The sub file seems to work in subrip.
edit: I don't see any reference about subtitles in your log.
Strange, cause the subs appears in MAVCHD, and I've opened the mkv file with mkvtoolnix and the subs are there.
Did you really need 1 hour to click START or you did a LOT of changes to the imported file?
This delay was caused by an MAVCHD error, and I was far away from my PC, so when I come back, just closed the error box and the encoding continued 'til the end.
I'm sending a sample to you (sended to you by PM). If you can try, I'll appreciate.

Dean,
I solved one of my lingering problems, it turns out I had to unload/reload my ffdshow to make one of my errors go away. I was able to play the avisynth script to troubleshoot that. Anyway, now I get much much further than I did before at putting together a massive 1.5TB fat32 drive with 50 movies. (yeah!)
Unfortunately, I'm now getting some issue with x264.exe. I have two move that won't show a preview at all (which I need to pick the "poster" image to fit my needs), all I get is an error and a blank image. I notice the video type is V_MPEG-2. I can't even click on the black preview to play the movie (more on that later).
I just keep getting these crash after crash after crash dialogs...
What might be causing this issue? Do I need to update x264.exe? I got your last package on 3/16/2010 [multiAVCHD_4.0.exe] and have used the update ever since (of course).
I've attached log, too

It will be nice to get some feedback on your SD-DVD encodings once they're done. :)
Dean
Well, the first one completed it's video encoding successfully, but then eac3to failed on the audio encode. I don't know why however, and I wish I could see it's command line so that I can try it from a terminal and see what error it's getting.
It then proceeded to extract the audio track with tsmuxer, but was going very slowly ~1MB/3s. Then I accidentally kicked the power cord and killed the computer
So, I'm running it again, this time from the playlist import mode and using Quenc for a 1 pass to see if I can actually get it to complete.
I will report back.

Well, first try at conversion failed.
My steps:
1) Load BDMV folder
2) Delete all unnecessary playlists until I'm left with the main movie (Inglorious Bastards)
3) Click on title to edit settings.
4) Remove all audio except for main english audio track.
5) Click the "Transcode" button.
6) Set for SD-DVD output (via Quenc 1-pass) with DVD-5 as the output target size.
7) Set Output dir to a folder on my desktop
8) Start and select SD-DVD output.
9) For some reason, my entire video was demuxed instead of just loading straight from directshow, but whatever, processing continues.
10) Come back several hours later and find the following.
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9156/multiavchddvderror.png (http://img192.imageshack.us/i/multiavchddvderror.png/)
Followed by this after clicking "ok".
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/2140/multiavchddvderror2.png (http://img44.imageshack.us/i/multiavchddvderror2.png/)
MultiAVCHD then proceeds to close.

Hi Dean,
I just moved to windows 7 and problems with multiavchd (v739) came as well:)
I get the following error: "(RT) Failure to copy file (D:\tmp\AVCHD\BDMV\PLAYLIST\00254.mpls) - Line 27639." when I try to create a PS3 AVCHD from one mkv file (there's nothing special about it).
This happens when I start multiavchd as Administrator (otherwise, I get issues much before) and the last log line is: "Failure to mux menu and to create playlist [00254.mpls]"
The destination PLAYLIST directory includes 00000.mpls. 00254 is created in the _TEMP directory.
After acknowledging the error, another window opens but is empty.
BTW, the .log file is not fully flushed so I could not copy from there.
Is this a bug or do you have any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks, G

Make sure to install the version of HAALI which I posted here (http://multiforum.deanbg.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17) (direct link (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/haali_MatroskaSplitter_11-01-2009.exe)). Uninstall the version you have, then install this one and during the install make sure to check both [x] MPEG-TS and [x] MPEG-PS. I can see in your screenshot: Title properties (). This should not be blank and should be a valid filename.
Well, the first one completed it's video encoding successfully, but then eac3to failed on the audio encode. I don't know why however, and I wish I could see it's command line so that I can try it from a terminal and see what error it's getting.
You could've found the log from eac3to either in the temp folder or in the source folder.
Well, first try at conversion failed.
My steps:
10) Come back several hours later and find the following.
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9156/multiavchddvderror.png (http://img192.imageshack.us/i/multiavchddvderror.png/)
The error was caused by a trailing SPACE character in the title name [ING BASTERDS ]. I got the same error and now I know what causes it so it is fixed.
9) For some reason, my entire video was demuxed instead of just loading straight from directshow, but whatever, processing continues.
You simply can't process a playlist (mpls) via directshow. In case of branched playlists there is simply no other way but demuxing it completely. If the main movie is in one m2ts file then you can load the m2ts, not the playlist.
Hi Dean,
I get the following error: "(RT) Failure to copy file (D:\tmp\AVCHD\BDMV\PLAYLIST\00254.mpls) - Line 27639."
This is also fixed - it won't crash and will continue, but the error means that the title-list menu won't be available and probably the whole structure won't work properly. Untick [x] Add title-list menu in Author tab.

No and I don't know why they don't accept ver 4.0 output and work with ver 3.0. It will be nice to get some test results when using version 4.0 of multiAVCHD and NO menus (no pop-up, no main, no title-list, chapters/setup) - just bare compilation with 1 title.
