deank, you mentioned the ability a few days ago to use CUDA with avisynth scripts. Do you think this might become a built-in feature one day? Any kind of speed increase is a bonus I guess!

deank
21st February 2010, 13:25
I'm not sure if I understand correctly... The option to use external avisynth scripts allows faster processing/decoding of various video files. About encoding - if you find an encoder which uses CUDA and works with avisynth - then it can be used for encoding.

Hello Deank,

I've make answer before, but I'm working for create a new logo Icon for Multiavchd.
Is not easy as I want but I hope provide something Monday or thuesday. :)
I've never create a icon file before, search a free tool to create a ICO with jpeg or png file.

Another things about other tests with the 4.0 veersion.

I've notified that the "resume" function not works perfectly as same function in RC build provided before.
Before, the resume function re-launch the playback at the last time played but actually, alls players (soft/PS3/standole) go to the near next chapter point of the last time positon played. ?
With the chapter creation in "titles prorieties", if I create chapter marks with "auto" function and the value wanted (ex :12), multiavchd'll create 24 chapter marks ?
If I use a txt file with custom entries marks, it works correctly in multiavchd ?

@ drelin, If you are using photoshop, you can save it as .ico.

deank
21st February 2010, 16:30
There is no change in the resume function in version 4.0. It is the same as in 730RC and the way it works: once you activate the popup menu and click 'Title menu' the currently played chapter is stored in a register and later when you click "Play" the playback resumes from this chaper. It is not possible to make an 'exact' return to the previous point (it is, but not with multiAVCHD).

"12" was a special value for chapters in pre 4.0 versions, because multiAVCHD was limited to 12 chapter thumbnails. I'll remove this 'special meaning' because it is no longer required. At the moment "12" means "auto" and the number of chapters depend on the duration of your movie.

Hey Dean, i have a question, i just bought a blu ray burner, and i wonder how i have to burn the result of a compulation, do i need to burn just the folder "AVCHD" to the root? or are there other things that need to be done.

You definitely don't burn the AVCHD folder... if you're using blu-ray disc that is.

There are 5-6 lines at the end of the log which point the user what to do.

Best way to go is to have ImgBurn installed and enable the option in multiAVCHD and let it prepare the output for you.

One rule to follow:

Burning content to optical media (DVD/Blu-ray) requires burning the BDMV folder (and CERTIFICATE if produced). It is as simple as this.

Solid state ouput (USB/SDHC) requires AVCHD folder... X:\AVCHD\BDMV\ for USB and X:\PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\ for SDHC.

If I load a file with named chapters, will they show up in the chapter list

deank
21st February 2010, 20:53
@deadstar: No, not at the moment. What is the format you're using?

I think multiAVCHD supports about 10 chapter formats and it is possible to add 'named-format' to some of them.

deadstar

I loaded mkv file and it shows 25 chapters all of them have names

deank
21st February 2010, 21:31
Named chapters (when detected) are saved in a .chapters.eng.srt file and loaded as external subtitles so you'll have them as a subtitle track.

I thought you were asking about a text chapter file with names, like:

00:00:00.000 CHAPTER 1
00:00:10.000 CHAPTER 2
00:00:20.000 CHAPTER 3

To discuss about editing, encoding, authoring, re-authoring legal materials, not the ones obtained from illegal sources.

As far as your error goes, try checking the subtitle with Subtitle Workshop. Press CTRL+I and you'll see a list of possible errors. Remove any unwanted tags like <b></b> <font> etc, except <i> - that's for italics- and rename it something like movie.srt. If everything fails, check too see if java is installed, or use easysup to create a pgs.

l.e. And make sure it is ANSI, not something else.

I was spending some time this afternoon, thinking how to implement the cool popBD feature into multiAVCHD... And I did it...

multiAVCHD now supports splitting the output up to 1000 volumes. What does it mean? It means that you can use multiAVCHD as you did before, but if you use only ONE file ([f] mode) or playlist ([m] / [p] modes or DVD title [d] or Audio title [a]) you'll get the option to split the output in volumes.

In case you're using playlists, output will be split in as many volumes as the count of the playitems in your playlist (i.e. the number of the m2ts files).

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_volsplit1.jpg

In case you're using [f] mode (files or full-playlist processing) volume size is defined by the value of MEDIA SPLIT option in Author tab.

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_volsplit3.jpg

Since the VOLUME SPLIT is performed at the end of the compilation, all of the volumes will get the MENU, SETUP and CHAPTER pages :) which is kind of cool. You'll see the split actions in the LOG box:

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_volsplit2.jpg

***

An example of usage is splitting a big file to fit smaller media in few volumes: BD disc to 4-5 DVDs, 6GB file to 2 FAT32 4GB USB sticks, etc... This new option allows you not to bother with transcoding and fitting your videos, but spanning it to multiple media.

Splitting to multiple volumes takes just few seconds and each volume goes to a separate folder "VOL_001" ... "VOL_100" in the output folder of your compilation. If you use volumes, the original output BDMV folder is not needed anymore and you can delete it, since the movie .m2ts files are spread among the VOL folders.

Now, with the VOLUME SPLIT option ready, it is time to implement PLAYLIST MERGE option, which means that you'll be able to merge a number of playlists in one title (provided they have the same properties: resolution/framerate/codec...

***

There was a bug when no menu is created - creating of title-list menu crashes... Also no_menu+no_title_list_menu lead to creating of a title_list_menu and a crash. It is fixed.

Also, there is a new icon designed by drelin for multiAVCHD. You'll get all this a bit later. :) I need a bit more time to re-calculate the chapter marks for each split volume, otherwise it is ready.

can you add *.h264 as video input format beside *.264?

oh i have forgotten: very cool custom menu feature!!!

deank
22nd February 2010, 21:04
Yes, but then I'll need to make a copy of each .h264 to another .264 or rename the original... So it is easier for the user to rename the file before import, isn't it??

VincAlastor

hi deank
i have a small request...is it possible to put the little square menu element on the right side of the text?
i write in hebrew, which is right to left and i cant allign it correctly because the square is at the end of every phrase, if not, how can i not use it at all?
thanks alot! :)

EDIT: changed opacity to zero, now its not visible and thats fine for me :)

I haven't though about right-to-left support. Let me think how it can be made. Then you will have a normal menu :)

Try to untick the option [-] Convert TrueHD to AC3 in Subtitle&Audio tab. If you want the core of the TrueHD, open "PROPERTIES" for this file and in AUDIO tab select [x] Core only. Then give it a go.

Build 732:

* Volume split option when using one title/playlist (all output modes, except HD-DVD).
* 1000 volumes supported - useful for camcoder users to SPLIT big playlists with a lot of scenes to separate titles and then create custom playlists.
* Some fixes for [auto] 12 chapter setting. multiAVCHD will generate as many chapters as you decide.
* Fixes for menu generation (title list) when no main menu is selected
* New icon designed by drelin
* [Reset] button to load current defaults in Menu template window

* 1000 volumes supported - useful for camcoder users to SPLIT big playlists with a lot of scenes to separate titles and then create custom playlists.
* Some fixes for [auto] 12 chapter setting. multiAVCHD will generate as many chapters as you decide.
* Fixes for menu generation (title list) when no main menu is selected
* New icon designed by drelin
* [Reset] button to load current defaults in Menu template window

Dean

I assume you can't have a menu then with the title split option?

You assume wrong :) I posted about it in the previous page of the thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1376623#post1376623).

Each volume has all the properties of the original: the menu, chapter and setup menu pages, title list menu and a pop-up menu. Chapters are recalculated and work in each volume. Those chapters which are from another volume will simply play the current title from its start. :)

Volume split can be used in all modes, with or without a menu.

Maybe this has been hit on already, but I'm not searching 227 pages to find the answer. Before the v4 update, I could easily use a high def mkv file and just convert and burn to a dvd that would play on PS3 with only stricter avchd compliance checked. Since the update, I can't get the discs to play on a PS3. What am I missing? I tried the loose and strict options on the convert type screen, but nothing worked.

@ all users,

About custom menus and "template" features on Multiavchd 4.0, see the thread on Multiavchd Forums :
http://multiforum.deanbg.com/viewtopic.php?uid=59&f=8&t=903&start=0

I hope that you help customize your own creation :)

Thanks drelin! The template packs are great. I added some changes to the menu preview - now the navigation boxes fit exactly the placeholders (in main menu preview).

#2 [Appleseed]

#5 [Hi-Tech]
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/6738/pack5.jpg

I included pack #2 as "Appleseed", #4 as "Kids" and #5 as "Hi-Tech" in the full download of multiAVCHD.

***

And another update:

Build 732+

* Few minor fixes
* Option to MERGE playlists (without merging the media).

Once multiAVCHD detects that the user has loaded ONLY [p] or [m] plalysts (more than 1) it will switch the 'transcode' button to 'merge playlists' button.

Clicking the button will make multiAVCHD merge all playlists in one, remove the loaded playlists from the compilation and load the newly created/merged one.

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_plmerge.jpg

Merging will create one big playlist file from all imported playlists. All chapters are preserved, subpath items like menus and pop-ups are also copied and intact.

The resultant folder with the merged content can be used only by multiAVCHD. It cannot be played or used otherwise. Still you can process the merged playlist with other tools like eac3to and tsMuxeR.

[m] playlist contents (m2ts/clpi) (multiAVCHD compilations) will be moved to the merged folder if [x] Move transitional files option is checked
[p] playlists will get their contents copied and not moved unless you tick the extra option [x] all.

If contents are moved, merging takes less than 1 second even when merging 20 playlists (with a total of 200 m2ts files). :)

The merged folder is an intermediate and you must create a compilation out of it to get a playable/usable structure.

***

With these two options: VOLUME SPLIT and PLAYLIST MERGE multiAVCHD looks complete. These two provide endless possibilities to manage your playlists.

With the custom menu and the template packs users can create virtually any type of menu. Credits to drelin for all the ideas, testing and creativity!

Enjoy it :)

For all the fancy menus people are building, is there any way to do a simple 1, 2, 3, 4 list of titles, with a static background image and menu audio? I tried yesterday but couldn't find anyway to make such a thing?

Using the defaults in multiAVCHD should do it for you.

1) Load your files/titles
2) Select menu style in "Author" tab (XMB, Slide, Carousel)
3) Select bg picture in "Menu"/General
4) Select bg audio in "Menu"/Advanced
5) If you want static menu, make sure you have Default menu type: [static] in Menu/General and [-] Motion title thumbnail in Menu/Advanced (they are set to these values by default)

If you use multiAVCHD's defaults (delete your ini file or reset the options) the only things you need to do are steps 2, 3 and 4.

If by 'simple list of titles' you refer to what previously was "classic menu" - there is no such menu in version 4.0.

The fastest and simplest menu is "Title list menu" (you can untick [-] Create top menu and use [x] Add title-list menu). It is available as an EXTRA top-menu for faster navigation to a different title.

Maybe I can live with letting the program pick anything at all for thumbnails in which case I can try the first method you mention, though I do really like the Title list menu display (if only I could do bg image & audio).

BTW is there a way with this Title list menu to make the typeface larger than it is presently?

deank

No, TITLE LIST is the only menu that can't be configured by the user. I just restored BG audio to setup/chapters/title_list menu, so you'll have audio.

Also if the slider for "Title list BackGround complexity" is set to the most left position, the background image from MENU/GENERAL will be used as a background.

That will do it for now. :)

Thank you--one more question for now: I am frequently encountering freezeups when looking for thumbnail images to use, when in a Titles dialog. multiAVCHD shows at bottom status bar e.g. "Preparing preview (00:26:41]..." but no CPU activity and I'm unable to get dialog to "OK" and ultimately have to End process and restart from the last project save I did. Any ideas about this? I run W7 x64 on a quadcore PC w/8Gb RAM. What is the mechanism that mA uses to make the preview window in that dialog?

I should add that the Source I'm using when "Preparing preview" appears & freezes is an m2ts with 1080p 264 vid, one ac3 audiotrack, one PGS sub, one Chapters.txt selected. And oddly, while I can get buttons to "highlight" e.g. Ok or Cancel or Close, and I can click tabs Audio, Subtitles, External Subtitles, etc. and get these windows to appear, and I can move the dialog around, I can't get it to close or get the proggie off this dialog.

If it locks, try to kill x264/mx264 from task manager.

laserfan
24th February 2010, 18:53
Oh, I didn't see those down there! That was the problem; I'll try my regular x264 build and see if that helps.

It occurs to me BTW that your <<F and F>> are a bit too fine? Maybe you should seek I-frames exclusively? Just a thought.

deank
24th February 2010, 19:20
I'd suggest not to change the (m)x264 versions included!

<<F F>> used to move 1 second FWD and backward, but some users said it is not good enough, so I changed it to 1 frame ~41ms.

I'll add a "STEP" option and seeking will be easier. I had it few weeks ago, but it stays hidden :). Steps are: 1 frame, 100ms, 250ms, 500ms, 1 second, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute.

***

You may update your multiAVCHD - title list/chapters/setup have audio now and if complexity for title list menu is set to 0 - background will be used.

>I'd suggest not to change the (m)x264 versions included!

Hmmm well since inserting my "regular" x264 build I've had no trouble w/freezeups where before most previews resulted in freezes. Anyway it's working well now and I am trying various of your "auto" settings for thumbnails & it's very cool. My only comment of these at this point is that auto-creating thumbnails based on chapter marks doesn't work for me as well as I'd like since many of my chapter marks are black! :p

x264 is used for menu encoding, so if your build is not hdr/interlaced patched it may produce non-compliant avc streams.

Hallo Dean!

I have a problem with version 4.0.

I have 2 Blu-Ray Player Panasonic BD 60. I have HD video ts files, recorded with FireDTV from SKY Sport HD. I burn blu-ray with a LG blu ray burner.

I can do what I want, without menu, with menu, without welcome menu, with welcome menu, avchd strict or relaxed, motion menu or no motion menu, nothing will be played. The player say that I inserted an BD Disc and them go on STOP.

The whole last saturday and sunday I lost with testing, but nothing works. I´m frustrated.

With version avchd 3.0 both Player play the BD-Video.
So it seems it is a problem of the version 4.0.

I hope you can give me an advice how I can use version 4.0 with Panasonic BD 60 Blu-Ray Player.

Sorry for my bad english. I´m from Germany and its only school - english!

I he you can help me!!

Greetings

Advice #1: Use version 3.0 so you don't loose any more saturdays and sundays.

Advice #2: Update to the latest 732+ and try again.

Advice #3: Buy a Sony BDP player

Advice #4: Burn BD-R/BD-RW discs, not DVD

A quick note about some changes in TITLE PROPERTIES, which I'll publish tomorrow:

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_neTP.jpg

1) [Alter detected properties] button: Although multiAVCHD manages to detect input media properties in some rare cases it may be required to override the detected values (possible cases: wrong TFF/BFF interlacement, framerate, interlaced/progressive).

2) Scale for <<F and F>> buttons: it should make preview-seeking a bit easier when using larger scale.

Hallo Dean!

Thank you for your quick advice. I`will try this.

Answer to advice # 4 : I burn on BD-R / BD-RW disk, and not on DVD.

Thank you very much. I hope it will work because your program avchd is very good from the functions and the looking of the menus. In worst case I will buy a Sony Blu-Ray Player

The new icon looks great.

Dear deank!
First of all: great work you are doing! I have been using your tool for a while and have been desperately waiting for the motion menu to work.Well done!
But, correct me if I'm wrong: the motion menu (no matter if I choose NTSC or PAL system) will always be created in 23.976 fps?!
Is there a way to change that or even better not to have the background video re encoded if I use a user defined background video file?

Thanx in advance!

Since it is very important to you :) I'd say that the value of 32.323 seconds was arbitrary and it is possible to do other lengths. The cornerstone is the time it takes to 'create' a menu page. 32 seconds takes ~ 4-5 minutes (of acceptable time) on a normal PC. That's why I chose the length.

Also, a regular (mentally heathy) user would decide what to do in 30 seconds. If you're using multiAVCHD's output for commercial or any presentation purposes (not for home use), that's another story.

You're, right. Menu is always generated in 24p no matter the TV system selection. Why would you need this to change? PAL players handle 23.976 (1080p) and NTSC love the format.

About 'not reencoding' the background: the same goes as for the welcome screen: you can always use your own videos for any menu page, provided you replace the 8***0.m2ts and 8***0.clpi files for the selected page (where *** is 001 to 252).
