Weird. I used latest anydvd to pre-process it and file size of 00011.m2ts is 25 GB on my disc.

For some reason multiAVCHD cannot detect its size. It can happen if the file is on a read-only media/mounted.

There is a quick fix for SD-DVD output, when using joined camcoder m2ts files (resulting in elementary .264 + .ac3). It is now possible to create DVD from such sources. Use multiUPDATE.exe to get the fix.

deank, just wondering if it is possible to reencode a DTS HD audio to DD 5.1 640kbps while in Reauthor mode? I see that the core can be kept, but since a DTS core can be quite large too, this is why I ask.
I am experimenting with reauthoring a Blu-Ray to AVCHD, BD5/9 size, by just removing some audio files I do not want to keep, blanking the warnings and adverts I choose, and transcoding the main movie and perhaps a few larger extras to smaller size so that it will fit the BD5/9 size disc.

deank
19th March 2010, 22:04
Re-author mode in multiAVCHD is completely separated from all other 'conversion' functions and it will be quite a task. Are you really sure that 768 DTS core take so much space, compared to 640 AC3? (20% is ~ 100-200MBs).

***

And again about SD-DVD output...

It seems muxman is not very cooperative :) application. If a single chapter mark is outside the program/cell boundaries, muxman will create the VOBs but will fail to create the main _TS.IFO... Too bad, really. At the moment (with the latest fix with multiUPDATE.exe) the last chapter is automatically removed (just to be safe).

I just converted my Ghost Rider blu-ray copy to DVD (for ~2hrs - 0.9xRealtime) but although the output is okay, it is 'shorter' with ~8 seconds...

DVD: 02:03:17 / BD: 02:03:25....

I don't know if the pulldown has to do with it, but the last chapter set @ 02:03:24 caused all to fail...

// edit: Now, after I burned the DVD and played it in the PS3, duration shows 02:03:25.... weird!

Otherwise, subtitle audio and quality are just fine :) In fact the DVD 480p quality in 1080p (after the internal Playstaion3 upscale) is great! :D

Dean

// edit 2: [alter detected properties] button in Title Properties allows you to mark added *.m2v DVD compliant files as [x] (HD)DVD compliant to avoid unnecessary re-encoding :)

I plan on having a tutorial for converting Blu-rays to DVD using MultiAVCHD out on Adubvideo in the next couple of days.

Man! I can't wait to get home and start playing around with this wonderful software that you have created!

Oh, and if I may ask, what MPEG2 encoder are you using? HCenc?

The DTS core is 1.19GB, but a converted to DD 640kbps AC3 is 520MB, a considerable difference!
Anyway, not a problem, I was just curious if the option was there and I just didn't see it.
Thanks. :)

If the playlist is processed in full mode (like you do) I think it is possible to honor the settings in Subtitles&Audio tab for HD audio conversion.

Let me see and I'll post back :)

Note about subtitles and SD-DVD output:

* Colors were missing in Settings.xml file for SubtitleCreator, so you can download the proper file (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/Settings.xml) (10kb) and put it in .\multiAVCHD\tools\SubtitleCreator\Data\ folder

* It is now possible to use [x] Advanced subtitle processing for SD-DVD mode. It means that you can create better-looking subtitles.

* Internal/embedded ASS/SSA/SRT in MKV files are supported and external ASS/SSA/SRT/SUB/IDX, too.

Setting a title as SD-DVD compliant will make multiAVCHD skip the step with applying pulldown for NTSC m2v files.

Bitrate suggestions are not really correct, so you may use a bit higher bitrates.

Yes, as I posted yesterday - SD-DVD output is similar to HD-DVD output - one title=one disc/VIDEO_TS to burn.

Some good news for those of you who import DVDs and transcode/convert to Blu-ray/AVCHD.

Since DGPulldown.exe is already in multiAVCHD package (if you don't have it - download (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/DGPulldown.exe)it and put it in tools folder) transcoding of NTSC DVD discs is all *ok* now.

Until now FF2ms was required for such conversions and sometimes it lead to audio/video a-synchronization.

In the latest update, transcoding of NTSC (29.970) DVD titles works as it should:

* 1st pull down is removed
* subtitles are converted properly to 23.976fps
* transcoding is performed with 24p source

The result - audio, subtitles and video are converted properly to Blu-ray 720x480i.

You'll notice messages in the log:

I'm having some weird problems with muxman and will be glad to get some help (mpucoder?)...

For some reason (sometimes?!), subtitles are available only in the first .VOB and not in the rest of the DVD video files...

Input .sup file is correct and seems okay. It is accepted and used, but subtitles are not showing when 2nd/3rd .vob is played by the DVD player. I'll do some more tests, but it takes a lot of time on my PC with each 4.4GB dvd-test files :(

I think avs2dvd (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=126647)will suit you much better. It supports menus and multiple audio/subtitle streams + multiple titles (thanks to muxman app). I tested it first time yesterday - really nice and easy to use app (avs2dvd) and it inspired me to add DVD output in multiAVCHD.

Just curious. What's the advantage of converting DVDs to Blu-ray?

I have lots of DVDs that I made from SD camcorders. Does this mean I could create a single Blu-ray image from multiple DVDs?

@AJ500, yes that is exactly what you can do. For example, you can put all the Matrix movies on one disk, or all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies on one disk, or....well you get the idea.

@deank,
Thanks for the response! Any reason why you didn't choose HCenc? I know that it is often considered (specifically on this forum) to be one of the best free encoders out there.

But don't feel like I'm pressuring you! Quenc will work just fine for now. I plan on testing it out tonight and report back my results.

I'm having some weird problems with muxman and will be glad to get some help (mpucoder?)...
Glad to help, if I can. PM me about the subs. As for chaptering, the input to MuxMan lists the first frame number of each chapter, zero referenced. The first chapter is assumed to be at frame 0. The usual problems are:
1) Re-encoded video has moved the I-frames. MuxMan will move the chapter point up in time to the next I-frame and note the move in its log. If you want exact chaptering make sure the I-frames are in the same place (at least at the chapter points). Some encoders allow forcing I-frames, others support segmented encodes.
2) The infamous last chapter problem. This has 2 causes, either using a chapter list with the number of frames as the last entry or a very short last chapter (12 frames is common to prevent the "Next" button from skipping to the next title) with the I-frame moved.

I included HcEnc, too - there is an option in settings tab to choose which mpeg2 encoder to use. I'll publish the new build a bit later - now I'm testing hcenc and fighting with bitrates and size estimation :)

Build 738:

* HcEnc (ver 0.24) is added in the full-download. If you don't want to download the whole package, download (http://www.videohelp.com/download/HC024_beta_16-02-2010.zip)HCenc.exe and place it in .\tools\ folder, named as HCenc.exe.
* Option in settings to choose [QuEnc - 1-pass] / [HCenc - 2-pass] as MPEG-2 encoder for SD-DVD output
* Fixed preview in 'Transcode' window (probably broken few builds ago). Un-crop bars are properly displayed again.

Ok... it gets weirder... :)

1) If I do chapter-skip with the remote, subtitles won't show after certain point (video in 2nd+ vob)

2) If I don't do chapter skip - subtitles are ALL THERE

3) If I do chapter skip, but then rewind just 5-10 seconds - subtitles show.

I guess the chapter-land-points are just few frames off from subtitle-show-point and it caused the confusion.

That is in my PS3... I guess all is okay, so don't waste time on it. I guess it is just the subtitle file I'm using (not normal movie - conversation-type, but subtitles each 5-10 mins).

Thank you, mpucoder for the great application! I was never into DVD stuff, but for the last 2 days I can see what you've done! Thank you! :thanks:

Maybe you'll insert xvid as an encoder as well. These movies play well even on PC's with P4 and 256 mb/ram. It's the closest thing they can have to HD.

Update with multiUPDATE.exe. This problem exists for very-very long time, when converting between framerates when destination fps is 1.5 slower than the original.

Also make sure to select the proper resize-resolution in the 'TRANSCODE' window. x264 settings in transcode window have no effect when doing SD-DVD :) Select MPEG-2 encoder in SETTINGS tab to be [HCenc 2-pass].

@crl2007: xvidenc_raw is included in multiAVCHD package and is used by my other tool mkv2avi, which produces HD XviD avi files.

What's the easiest way to select the main title from a br? I would have thought the largest m2ts but one I have seems to be split down into many smaller files.

Import the whole BDMV folder and multiAVCHD will scan all playlists. Then you can see which one is the main movie (the longest duration). Remove all other playlists/titles and process the main-movie only.

I usually encode with my own command line or by using some of my modified presets for MeGUI + avisynth script with some filters. That's why I said that it would be nice to be included in multiAVCHD as an option.

And would I use BR re-author or not? It imports about 50 playlists!

It depends on what you're going to do. Do not enter re-author mode, because you can't remove playlists. After you import the folder, use the [remove] button and remove all playlists except the largest one (or set higher value in "Do not import AVCHD/DVD playlists if shorter than: **** seconds" in AUTHOR tab - for example 3600 and you'll get only the playlist longer than 1 hour).

@crl2007: I'd like to keep multiAVCHD as an authoring application, not as 'video converter'. There are a lot of 'file-encoders' out there already.

You are right.

@Deank

Time for a new donation...meanwhile...having a bunch of Bluray titles and wishing to convert them not to AVCHD but to standard DVD and playable on DVD players, what should I do (beside setting proper transcoding options).
Would (i.e.) XMB menu play on standalone DVD players as well?

TIA

:) Thanks.

No, at the moment multiAVCHD does not produce a menu for the DVD output. One title = one VIDEO_TS = one disc (no menu). :) I need to read and learn a bit more about muxman's capabilities for menu-authoring and then I'll try to implement it in multiAVCHD.

You need to:

1) load the main-movie playlist
2) leave only one audio track and only one subtitle track (if needed)
3) go to 'TRANSCODE', select [Create SD-DVD title]
4) click and select the proper size
5) In settings tab select [HCenc 2-pass] as MPEG-2 encoder for better bitrate distribution.

***

Few important fixes in the latest update:

* Fixed: sometimes audio encoding of internal tracks (like FLAC or MP2/MP3) would not produce 48kHz .ac3, thus causing troubles in normal and SD-DVD output modes

* Fixed: SD-DVD: ETA time for 2nd pass HcENC encodings

* Added: SD-DVD: Video is encoded with I-frames @ each chapter mark (when using HCenc)

* Fixed: SD-DVD: the 'frame-part' of the chapter marks, used by [B]muxman is properly calculated both for PAL and NTSC modes (~90% success and muxman accepts the frames and not moving 0.3-0.5 seconds forward to the next I frame)

* Fixed: SD-DVD: 720x480 (4:3) and 720x576 (4:3) are now honored and proper aspect ratio is used in the final DVD

I guess there were few other things, but I can't remember right now.

So I'd have to choose no menu at all and this way a DVD structure instead of a BD/AVCHD would be generated?
Just asking.

EDIT: donation sent :)

Thanks
