Yes, 240 frames are added at the end... it seems with some sources hddvdmux cuts more than 10 seconds :) I think this is related to the bitrate but I can't know for sure. I believe it is not that bad to get 4-5 seconds cut at the end. Of course I can higher the value to 480 frames (or to any number of frames).

From what you've described of your test results and from what I've seen regarding "10,000 B.C." twice under Build 670+ and once under Build 670 (Plus what was described by "Undead Sega"), I believe that changing the add-on from 240 frames to 480 frames would likely eliminate many cropped endings...

You can start multiUPDATE.exe and you will get the change to 480 frames. This works only when multiAVCHD creates the .264 AVC with x264. If user imports HD-DVD compliant m2ts (or any other compliant file), then these frames will not be added. I think it is really easy to glue these frames at the end of an existing encode (I just tested but I'm not sure if it works) and I'll need time to implement it.
Also a note about the audio - I think 640kbps AC3 is okay in HD-DVD - did you test if it works with your player, or you prefer 448? Be advised that a 4.4GiB m2ts file will result in ~4.0-4.2GiB evo, because of the smaller overhead of the container. This said - 640kbps audio will not 'steal' DVD5/DVD9 room from the video. :)
Let me know if you run any other full-movie encodes and I'll appreciate feedback about the transcode quality and missing seconds at the end.

@deankLet me know if you run any other full-movie encodes and I'll appreciate feedback about the transcode quality and missing seconds at the end.Just finished "Meet the Robinsons", with 448Kbps 5.1 .AC3. Transcode quality was excellent (Then again, CGIs almost always look great, no matter what). It played all the way through, up to less than 1 second from the absolute end (Disney castle had faded about 2/3 of the way to black. Note - Since my compressed BluRay BD5 contained two 640 audiotracks and the HD-DVD creation contained only one 448 audiotrack, the HD-DVD came in at only 3.25Gb. This did not appear to affect the visual quality in any way...
I'm presently doing "Nights at the Museum", retaining DTS audio.
I'll make the next order of business a 640 with 480 extra end frames ;>}
**Question - would it be possible to make the HD-DVD conversion components into a standalone setup, so that it would essentially be a "one-click" program? It would then only require the input of the to-be-converted filename (Plus optional audio settings).

@deank
I should have known better - "Night at the Museum" crashed "hddvdmux". I presume this was due to the .DTS audiostream.
If possible, I'll convert the audiostream to .AC3 ansd see if I can do a quick mux with the .264 file that was created.

multiAVCHD should convert DTS to AC3 for HD-DVD, didn't it? Or you tried to mux an external dts track?
Yes, it is possible to create a one-click application, but it will have very restricted functionality, compared to multiAVCHD, because now you can load virtually any (codec/container) video+audio and get it into HD-DVD.

@deankmultiAVCHD should convert DTS to AC3 for HD-DVD, didn't it?Apparently not, since the crash of "hddvdmux" appears to have occurred after the video conversion, during the audio conversion. No, it was not an external DTS file, it was part of the M2TS. (The crash doesn't appear in the log).
Yes, it is possible to create a one-click application, but it will have very restricted functionality, compared to multiAVCHD, because now you can load virtually any (codec/container) video+audio and get it into HD-DVD.If it was available as a standalone capable of processing MKV files and M2TS files (Plus optional audio settings), I for one, would be a "happy camper" ;>}

It should happend while muxing, not during audio processing. A log from such conversion may help to find the trouble.
At the moment you'll have to stick with multiAVCHD about HD-DVD. Using compliant (to hddvdmux) .264 and .ac3 means that everything can be done even with a batch file.

I didn't retain the log because, as I said, the log didn't reflect the error (It was a separate MS error message stating that "hddvdmux.exe" failed. After the error message was closed, the log continued on and reflected what appeared to be a successfully completed HD-DVD package and, if I remember correctly, some AVCHD-format info...
BTW - It created an apparently complete, HD-DVD -compliant .264 videostream in the source file's directory. Is there a reason it doesn't also create the compliant audiostream in that same directory?
I ask because I unsuccessfully attempted to use the .264 file together with the DTS audiostream extracted from the original source M2Ts - and then again, with that same audiostream converted to 5.1 .AC3 640Kbps...

You can try again with the same .264 and the AC3 but @ 448kbps.
1) Load the .264
2) Demux the DTS audio from your m2ts
3) Go to title properties, Audio files and ADD the extacted DTS
4) Go to 'Transcode' and mark the title for HD-DVD
5) Go to Muxer&Audio and set DTS to AC3 and Non HD audio to 448kbps
Dean
p.s. If you update with multiUPDATE you will get the audio file copied to the source folder so later just importing the .264 will auto-load the audio track.
Build 671:
If "Poster frame" is used - the next time "title properties" is open, preview will show the position selected as "poster frame"... Someone asked about this, but I can't remember who.
Fixed a possible bug for audio conversion (AAC) - audio not converted to 48000Hz (ffmpeg)
Some optimizations and .exe size slightly decreased
You can now import and transcode WMV(HD) files
HD-DVD conversion gets audio copied to source-file folder for later re-use

uncropping = reencoding.
My laptop converts/transcodes/uncrops 2hr movie (720p) for ~2-3h and 1080p for ~3-4-5hrs.
How fast is your laptop? My cpu is a dual-core. Are you doing a dual-pass or single? My desktop wants 10 hrs for a single pass on 1080p.
guess it's time for an intel quadcore

This is off-topic. (and i'm using 1pass) (you should get rid of all pre/post processing options in ffdshow - they'll slow encoding dramatically) (if you have tons of codecs/filters installed - it is normal encode to drag - I use only ffdshow+haali - nothing else).

Late addition to build 671:
* Elementary streams usually don't carry duration information. multiAVCHD will try to approximate and show ~ duration in title properties for h.264 ES, which allows auto-chapters generation (in chapter files tab) and some usage of the preview (slider), although you should have in mind that presented timestamps are not correct and do not correspond to actual times in the final muxed video. It is just easier to 'browse' around the move. (ES) ~ in dark red will be shown as "duration" in Title properties + hint (seconds for normal videos and 'note' for elementary streams (es)).
* External DTS audio tracks will be reencoded with eac3to to AC3 if [x] Convert DTS to AC3 is checked (provided you have the proper DTS decoder)
I had first tried to use the tried to use the "Museum.-output.264" - first with the extracted .DTS audiostream and then with an .AC3 stream (converted from the .DTS stream by "eac3to"). The GUI acknowledged the videostream as being already processed for HD-DVD and then failed to process the audio. Here's the log (with .DTS)
Your log shows that there is no audio track available. Make sure you load one in "Audio files" tab in Title properties.
edit: DTS cannot be used with hddvdmux. If your PC cannot covert DTS to AC3 (because of lacking DTS decoder) - it will not work.
edit2: Wait before your next try. I think multiAVCHD will not reencode external .dts to .ac3. I'll have to fix this.
***
I think it is okay now and external .DTS audio should be converted to AC3 (if you have the proper decoder). Give it a try now with multiUPDATE.
With external DTS you should see something like this in the log:
[20:04:52] Detected frame reference count: 2 (max:4).

You have succeeded in thoroughy confusing me ;>}
1) I have an .M2TS file that includes a videostream plus a DTS audiostream.
2) I have just used "multiupdate" again to download the most current build.
Will this current build process the DTS audiostream contained in the .M2Ts file or MUST it be extracted to an external file?
Forgive my ignorance but, what are some "proper DTS decoders"?
deank
7th August 2009, 19:34
1) Just to be sure - start multiUPDATE.exe now
2) 'Proper DTS decoder' means that your PC can decode DTS (i.e. eac3to succeeds - you can test with eac3to -test)
3) Changes in this build were about external DTS (not m2ts internal), but since you already have the 'meet the robinsons' .264+.dts you can load the .264 and retry - the idea was for testing purposes to use the already encoded .264 + the audio track.
4) multiAVCHD should reencode dts to ac3 (be it internal or external when using hd-dvd output)
I can't see where is the confusion. (I just merged 3 of my posts into 1)

I think we're just about there.
The latest build generated a good two minute HD-DVD from a BluRay M2TS clip (With INTERNAL DTS) I took (With "tsMuxeR" v.1.10.6)from my "Night at the Museum" - but it ran for 2:16, with the last 16 seconds showing the final video frame and repeating the final audio. Am I correct in presuming this would represent the 480 blank frames added to the end? If so, it's obviously not a problem (unless some end credits of a movie have audio right through the last second).
Based on this success, I'm going to once again try to create a conversion of the full "Night at the Museum".
BTW - "Re-using" the .264 plus .AC3 streams worked perfectly ;>}
deank
7th August 2009, 20:20
Yes, these additional 480 frames are obvious with short videos, but with 1h - 2h long videos it is okay and if anything is cut, it will be cut from these frames. After all they add about 50-100kb to the final EVO so it won't affect the size dramatically.
As in your case it seems 4 seconds were cut (your source is 2min, multiAVCHD adds 20 seconds, but it plays 2:16...) As you already noticed - the inconsistent inconsistency :) in the final EVO... still it is not that bad.

1) If the result of my presently ongoing conversion of the FULL "Night at the Museum" is succesful (and I'm now fairly optimistic that it will be), I think my/our next attempt should be be a conversion of a DVD9/BD9.
What do you think? Or is there something else that should be addressed first?
2) I really didn't follow what you were describing regarding chapters. Will HD-DVDs created with the most recent Build 671 now contain and playback with chapters?
3) Your use of the abbreviation "N@M" had me mystified at first. In what must be something related to age, I immediately thought you were referring to something about Viet Nam (Which, in my earlier days, was always referred to simply as "Nam") ;>}

Yeah, well N@M was Night@Museum...
No, there is nothing to add to the current build - so you can try with DVD9 (of course it was all a-"OK" a week ago, but only you know how much it took to get here)
Chapters: I can set their count and your player will recognize 1/15 (for example) but I have trouble with the changes in the .ifo file which point to the correct chapter-jump.
I spent almost a day with HEX editing the .ifo file for the main title and I'd say I have ~10% knowledge/success.
This is usefull, but a lot of info is missing yet. (http://www.h-plus-t.com/misc/hddvd.txt) (ref: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=137428)

Full "Night at the Museum" - Got the same "hddvdmux.exe has stopped working" MS error message, just before completion (See the log that follows). Using the apparently complete raw video (.264) and raw audio (.AC3) streams yielded the IDENTICAL results, including the EXACT amount of KBs in the .EVO file - with both Build 670 and Build 671.
Since the filesize of the created .EVO is almost exactly 1/4 of the total filesize (video and audio combined), I'd ask - Is it possible you've inadvertently altered/corrupted things related to creating multiple .EVOs rather than one .EVO?
**EDIT** I just tried using "hddvdmux.exe" DIRECTLY with the two raw streams. It stopped at precisely the same point as previous tests via your GUI. Therefore, I have deduced that the problem has nothing to do with the methodology you've used to create multiple .EVOs. Rather, I am now pretty firmly convinced that there is something quirky about my "Night at the Museum" M2TS source material.
I'm now going to set up yet another FULL BD-RB-compressed BluRay for testing.

It seems hddvdmux finds it hard to mux it for some reason. multiAVCHD does not split evos - hddvdmux does all the hard work.
Once I get into such troubled .264 stream i'll check where hddvdmux throws the exception and quits.

I'll let you know how the next one goes (It's going to be "Invincible", with which I'd previously created good clips of varying lengths)...
Trivial question - Is there anything in any of the underlying programs that might be making colors (notably, fleshtones) a bit "warmer"?

Yes.. this is a weird error. What is the OS that you use? Is this the exact message? What is the path? "..."?
I am using Vista 32 (German version), I tried some different paths e.g. C:\multiAVCHD or D:\Programme\multiAVCHD, nothing special. As mentioned before, version 668 shows no error when starting to create a BD.
BTW: newest version 671 shows the same error in line 3312

Congratulations to us, we're "batting .800" for Toshiba playback! Good results for "Cadillac Records, "10,000 B.C.", Meet the Robinsons", and now, "Invincible". Thusfar, the only negative result has been "Night at the Museum".
The full movie "Invincible" was created by via GUI without incident - and the burned BD5/DVD5 played back perfectly on the Toshiba, all the way through the last bits ;>}
Next on my agenda regarding "multiAVCHD" will be the conversion to HD-DVD of my BD9/DVD9 "Cinderella Man".

No, it is just the x264 encoding the avisynth script - you can see its contents in \tools\ folder as 2009MMDD-uncrop-running.avs. May be the HD-DVD player uses different color enhancements. When you compare the original m2ts and the result both played in your PC is there a difference?
I am using Vista 32 (German version)... version 668 shows no error when starting to create a BD.
Yes, because this function was not used in 668. But it is impossible to debug because multiAVCHD should be able to write this .cmd file in its own path. Could you try to create yourself this cleannow.cmd file and see if your PC will allow it?

:) Really good news! I hope that most of the movies will get converted. I hope you got the lines from jdobbs for BD-RB. If you get a chance - try them and feed multiAVCHD with BD-RB's movie-only m2ts file.

I now created the file manually before starting multiAVCHD, but when pressing the start button, the same error appears and file cleannow.cmd is deleted by multiAVCHD.

Use multiUPDATE (now) and uncheck [x] Delete temp files... option. Let me know if this will overcome the problem.

There is a thing called "Title properties".
Click the DVD title name in Media tab / Title properties to open new window, where you can add/remove subtitles, audio and a lot of other things.

Build 674:
* x264 is updated to 1198 (HRD patched by juGGaKNot (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1312292#post1312292)) (with macroblock tree rate-control)
* Transcode menu now has 4 options:
1 Do not transcode
2 Blu-ray/AVCHD compliant
3 BD/AVCHD/HD-DVD compliant
4 Create HD-DVD title
1) will not re-encode your video
2) is the same as before
3) will create h.264 (ES) compatible with Blu-ray/AVCHD and HD-DVD specs
4) will create h.264 (ES) compatible with Blu-ray/AVCHD and HD-DVD specs and will process the title as HD-DVD title
Build 675:
In rare cases menu may not look as it should (pixelated?) - a problem which is addressed in build 675. multiAVCHD will use --crf 16 in attempt to create a crisp 1-frame menu pages.
* Color frame for thumbnails option in Menu Tab now affects Slide and Carousel menus
* Tweak for avisynth+x264 proper operation detection
Build 676:
Going back to older revision of x264 - you will see the download link in the LOG tab.
x264.exe (new x264 r1198) - used for transcoding (uncrop/resize)
mx264.exe (old x264 r1154M) - used for menu encoding
Dean
p.s. I'm sorry for all these updates yesterday and today, but I started pulling my hair off until I finally figured it all out.
to all: check "Frames to encode" slider in Menu tab and make sure it is set in the middle (14).

Hello Deank,
I would be very interested in detailed specifications to the Blue-Ray's structure . I am a coder and I have developed a software called DvdcopyProtector (only for private-use). Now i want to make BDCopyProtector, of course only when I'll know all the specifications of the new format.
I saw your software and I think you know
all of the Blue Ray.
Can you tell me where to take these informations?
Sorry for my English!

Sadly, I can't be of any help with this, even if you have asked in more private way.
+ You visit the forum once in few years
+ You've written a lot of 'small' utilities (for your own use) asking people to test and not supporting them
+ Since the thing you're planing to do is also for your 'private' use I see no reason to help you in any way
+ :) for 4-5 years you could've learned English, instead of 'excusing' yourself in each message you post
+ a final note: I really doubt that you can copy-protect a Blu-ray disc by corrupting it. In fact you may succeed but it won't play in any player. Nowadays even original Blu-ray titles have problems with some hardware players - what to say about a 'broken'/'corrupted' one.
* You can 'take' the information about Blu-ray specification from Blu-ray Disc Association (http://www.blu-raydisc.com/index.htm) after you pay 5 figures in Euro.

Hi,
I have this message when i run multiavchd.
Before this i had a message saying that my multiavchd version has expired so i downloaded the latest version.
Now i have a new message :

what's wrong ?
Thank U

It is possible that your antivirus program denies multiAVCHD the access to the file - it is needed to set the proper TEMP folder. Also may be you need administrator privileges - I don't know.

Deank, what is the x264 command line for a compatible h.264 stream for HD DVD muxing?
deank
10th August 2009, 21:55
Whatever you decide, but these are required:
keyint 14
vbvrate 17500
vbvbuf 14000
level 4.1
ref 2
bframes 2
minkeyint 2
Bitrate for 3xDVD (HD-DVD written to DVD discs) by specs is max. 8000kbps.
Higher ref and bframe may work, but I have no means to test. These are used in multiAVCHD.
NB: These are not HD-DVD standard requirements, but settings proved to work with hddvdmux application, which is used for HD-DVD output in multiAVCHD.

Bitrate for 3xDVD (HD-DVD written to DVD discs) by specs is max. 8000kbps.
So wouldn't this be the same for Blu-ray on DVD? If so, I have successfully burned countless AVCHD using --vbv-bufsize 30000 --vbv-maxrate 24000 without any problems.
I am more than willing to test your HD DVD output. If I create a compliant h.264 stream using the x264 settings above can I import to multiAVCHD without re-encoding?
deank
10th August 2009, 22:04
No, it is not the same, because in BD/AVCHD a keyint of 24 (for 23.976fps) and 25 for (PAL 25.000) works, but for HD-DVD you need keyint 14 and because of some restrictions of hddvdvmux.exe you need your source to be 23.976.
No, do not confuse bitrate with vbufsize or vbitrate. You can have bitrate set to 8000, but peaks in vbitrate up to 17500 and it will not cause any troubles if video+audio does not exceed 36mbit:
http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/hddvd-specs.jpg
AVCHD standard does not allow such high vbrate settings on DVD, but - yes - it works in all players.
Yes, if you import .264 (or any other video encoded with x264 which contains 'encoding-settings' text information) with proper settings, multiAVCHD will not reencode it. Still you need to mark the title for 'transcoding' in Title properties / Transcode / Create HD-DVD title.
