Hi deank and all others,

a long time since I last posted or asked somethin'
I suddenly came across a thing in mAVCHD that isn't a bug but something that surprises me:
Is it somehow possible to take influence on the welcome screen? I am using an intro from an original blu ray disc and I want it 100% like on the original disc. So, no Messages or re-encode necessary. But somehow mAVCHD reencodes the intro and I don't know why? The Problem is, that the reencode is rather blocky and it seems to have a rather low bitrate. After mAVCHD was done, I tried just to replace the reencoded file with the original file, but playing the disc with TMT to test it, the intro stopped after aprox. 3 Sec and skipped to the main menu. Even reencoding the original file with mAVCHD and then replacing it, did not work. So can I somehow 'tell' mAVCHD to leave the intro file 'untouched`? Like I said, I did not place any messages accros the video and therefore I do not see any need to reencode the intro at all.

I appreciate any answer or hint. Thanks! :-)

MultiAVCHD is great, but 252 files limit kills me. I want to make an archive of the videos I shot with my AVCHD camcorder, the clips are short, and 252 clips total to about 11 GB. This sucks. I do not need the menu, all I want is to dump all the clips to the disc and to have it playable on my BD player.

I saw exactly the same outcry almost a year ago on another forum, but the issue seems to be unresolved.

Dean, could you allow max files for a compilation, I assume it is 100000 according to AVCHD/BD spec. Did you use a byte as a counter instead of two bytes? Or is it SMB limitation?

Anyway, please allow having as many files as it is allowed by AVCHD spec, not some arbitrary number. Thanks!

Another issue I have, I created a title consisting of 480i AVC/H.264 files, which are legit for AVCHD and I believe that they are legit for BD, though I could not find exact BD spec that would say that I have to use AVC or MPEG-2 or any of these.

When I authored a disc on BD media using Blu-ray profile in MultiAVCHD it did not play in my BD player, but played on a computer.

When I authored a disc on BD media using AVCHD Strict profile, it played in my BD player just fine, but the player detected the disc as "DVD", and I wonder how other players that have no explicit AVCHD support will react to such a compilation. I want to make the compilation as compatible as possible.

P.S. I post my issues here because I could not register at Dean's forum using GMail's email address.

well as Dean said, it is AVCHD format. That is all it makes. If you have a player that does not support AVCHD, then you can try the strict version, but AVCHD as it is, is an offshoot of bluray spec, like svcd. Your best bet if you want your stuff to be as compatible as possible for non avchd compatible players would be to use a different program. This programs works great for those of us who use it, but we know the limitations. I use it daily and I make sure that I inform friends to have a bluray player with AVCHD support.

Ping deank

multiforum.deanbg.com has been down - I hope not permanently.
I'm about to use multiAVCHD again to backup some episodic TV series Blu-rays and have been hoping to access my posts on multiforum.deanbg.com to see what I used before as workarounds for minor bugs.

Hope one of these days you do find time to work on multiAVCHD.

Edit: Back up. Got my info (I hope). Thanks

1) MultiAVCHD specifically has "Make Blu-ray" button, which means that it can create proper BD structure. If it cannot then this button must be removed.

2) 252 media files limit is not AVCHD limitation.

Really? It must be removed? I don't think so.

Perhaps you misunderstand.

Make blu-ray tells me it will make a blu-ray compatible image or disc. It doesn't indicate to me that it is strictly, 100% blu-ray specification compliant. It tells me it will prepare an AVCHD image that is formatted for blu-ray media, not make an image that 100% blu-ray specification compliant.

AVCHD disc is AVCHD on DVD, this is how it is recognized by BD player. AVCHD on BD is not a legal format, just like BDMV on DVD is not a legal format. If you cared to read what Dean wrote, you would realize that MultiAVCHD modifies directory structure and control files to match BDMV, which is different from AVCHD.

So back to my original question: why my BD authored as BD cannot be played by my BD player, but my BD authored as AVCHD can, but is recognized as DVD? This is not right.

Anyway, what really annoys me is 252 file limit. BDMV issues are not so important.

You can author a BD with any video stream you want, but that does not mean it will play. Your video stream has to meet Blu-Ray compliance as well... Also, if you are using a Samsung player, there may be a chance you need to delete the AUXDATA folder before burning... that's what I have to do with one of my players.

Hello,

This is an issue I am having with recent titles (1080p) and multiAVCHD:

After transcoding (due to ref frame and/or non standard resolution), the resulting video has noise blocks where motion is.
See attached screenshot.
http://t2.pixhost.org/thumbs/2601/7758593_multiavchd_block-noise2.jpg (http://www.pixhost.org/show/2601/7758593_multiavchd_block-noise2.jpg)

The problem is observed both on the PC and the PS3.

I did not have this issue with past titles, up until few month ago.

Has anyone seen this issue?
Is there a solution?

Thanks.

Does that happen once or twice, or is it on all motions scenes?
It looks like the same problem I was having. My problem just started to show up recently also but it only happened once per title.
You may want to look at the last 2-3 pages here.

It happens in ALL recent titles in SOME motion scenes.
The movie becomes unwatchable.
I had the issue in the following titles:

Unknown.2011.1080p.BluRay.x264-TWiZTED
True.Grit.2010.1080p.BluRay.x264-SECTOR7
Sucker.Punch.Extended.Cut.2011.BluRay.1080p.DTS.x264-CHD
Battle.Los.Angeles.2011.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CtrlHD

MKV2VOB 2.4.7 is able to overcome this issue for some reason.

Anyone?

It looks like a h264 problem, you could try another version of this codec.
Or your player doesn't like one of the h264 options used for the encoding.

Hi guys!

I have a little issue with multiavchd.
No BluRay player will allow me to jump to the next title in my play list. Of cause I tried the 'auto chapter at end of title' option.
I also did try different players (Sony/Phillips) and different versions of multiAVChd (3.0/4.0). No success:-(
Is there a solution?

All the best!
Still looking for the solution of the problem.

I just came across this program and it looks like exactly what I'm looking for to take multiple movies or TV episodes from my personal collection and add them to one AVCHD disc or other format. However, after installation I loaded 10 episodes from HBO's Games of Thrones that I recorded into the program trying to create a AVCHD disc on a single 4.5gb DVD. I used all the default values of the program but after every transcode I get a tsmuxer error and the program skips to the next file and the same thing happens again. I downloaded and replaced the tsmuxer.exe with the latest version of tsmuxer [tsmuxer 1.10.6] just in case the included version was outdated.

I can't really find out what the problem is. I am not super technical with this stuff but I have some limited experience with RipBot, tsmuxer, mkvtoolnix and other such programs. Any suggestions or possible fixes? Thank for your time :thanks:

The problem might be the subtitles. If you do not need them, or just to confirm if this is the problem, try removing any duplicate subtitle languages or all subtitles from each title and then run it again.

Thanks, I will try that. I seem to have narrowed the problem somewhat. In each of the AVCHD discs I tried to create it seems to fail when I use files that have this type of info...

After a bit of research on the net I came across someone stating to load the file into GDSMux. I did that and the header stripping for the video was removed but not for the audio. I then tried again in multiAVCHD but the files came out all out of sync and the audio was really screwed up, like sounding underwater, plus they are 1 hr episodes and after loading the M2TS files in media info it stated they were 3 hrs each... weird! I am still doing some testing on other files that don't have the header stripping. I really have no idea what all this header stripping business is about but I think that is the culprit of my errors. Still waiting to see how they turn out!

One more thing I noticed. I am not sure if others have had this issue but after I press STOP to abort the conversion after I get the tsmuxer error, it will stop the current file and move to the next automatically. After that STOP is not highlighted anymore and I can't abort the conversion. I literally have to go into task manager to kill multiAVCHD. Even then x264 is still running and I have to go to "processes" and end task. Anyone else experiencing this? Why do I feel like it's just me

The problem comes maybe from the "Muxing mode : Header stripping", which means "Header compression".
You can remove it with MKVMerge : file, options, mmg, and tick "disable header ...".

LOL!!! I noticed this exact same thing last night. After using mkvmerge for quite a while now I see in the options they have this option to remove the header like you said. I had never paid any mind to it because I never had any errors related to it as far as I can tell. Well, I am gonna re-mux all the files and try another encode. Thanks also for your reply :)

I would like to encode and author an animation to a BR-5 disc and have it play in infinite loop on a standalone BluRay player in a museum. Can you tell me exactly what settings should I select?

This is what I come up with so far:
1. render the movie in 1080p24.
2. encode the movie in MeGUI using the x264 / AVCHD profile, to an mkv file.
3. in multiAVCHD I import the mkv file.
4. Tick out all the menu options
5. What should I set in "General". PAL 24p? Does it matter?
6. Skip welcome screen?
7. Skip top menu playback?
8. Action after last title: Loop playback?
9. Everything else default
10. Start: AVCHD (Strict)
11. Burn to a DVD-R using ImgBurn

Can someone confirm that this will indeed work on most of the standalone players? I have no idea what player will it be played on (it will be in a museum).

Could you please explain what should I set the question marked "?" items? Can you tell me what else should I do with the default options?

In MPC-HC it does indeed loop, but the first loop happens instantaneously, while the second one happens after about a second of stopping and starting. Is it just the behaviour in MPC-HC? Should I not worry about it?

If you don't make menu, you don't have to worry about the menu (Pal 24) as it won't be there.
Your settings look good for what you wanna do.

Still looking for the solution of the problem.

When I was using mAVCHD, I never had an issue with that. When looking at each of the titles, make sure that there is a chapter mark right before the end of the video. Set it manually, if need be. Hopefully you have a few seconds of black at the end. Set it a couple of seconds before the end.

Then, make sure that the next action is to go to the next title.

Now the next chapter button will result in a jump to the end of the video and a couple of seconds later, it will go to the next video.

You've got to be joking right? 10 episodes onto a single DVD5 piece of media. You won't even get 10 episodes onto a BD25 piece of media.

The one episode that you reference is 2.6 GB. Two episodes would be more than the DVD can hold.

Plus, the resolution is 1280x714, which is out-of-spec. How did you end up with that? 720p is 1280x720.

It seems that you got the file from the net, as "Game.of.Thrones.S01E01.720p.HDTV.DD5.1.x264.EbP.mkv" is the format used by torrent seeders. Whoever that "EbP" seeder person is needs to go back to torrent seeder school :)

No, I was not joking. I obviously was gonna reduce the file size to fit the 10 episodes onto a single dvd. You make it sound as though I am out of my mind to conjure up such an idea. Yes, the quality will be reduced... not my concern and not really relevant to my question/problem. Yes, the files were downloaded from the net... I didn't create the resolution so I don't know why it's 1280x714. If you don't want to help and the discussion needs to end then that is most certainly fine with me. I will go sit in the corner now.

And yes, you can get 10 episodes onto a single DVD5 piece of media. I have succeeded doing it.

It is against forum rules to discuss stuff that deals with pirate copies. It is a forum rule, one that you agreed to when you joined the forum. Not my rule.

And yes, you can get 10 episodes onto a single DVD5 piece of media. I have succeeded doing it.

A generic question like this, can be discussed.

Each episode would have to be approximately 400 MB in size. For 480i material that is fine. But for 720p material that is an hour long, that is way too small. Even at 3 Mbps, the file size is about 1.5 GB. Reducing that size about 1/4 means a bitrate of about 750 kbps, which is virtually unusable. Meaning, unwatchable.

IMHO, 720p material should never use a bitrate lower than 2 Mbps, best at 3 Mbps, or higher. Even with two-pass encoding, those should be the bitrates.

QBhd
8th July 2011, 03:40
Agreed... It's not even worth the cost of a DVD to try and put 10 episodes of 720p material... and single layer DVDs are cheap! You may actually go blind trying to watch something like that :) j/k

Seriously though, 3 hours of content in 720p on a DVD5 is pushing the watchability envelope

I do not disagree and this was not really the point of any of my questions. The dvd was not for me but my cousin and he didn't really care about the quality so I squeezed em all on 1 dvd5. For my personal tastes I could never watch low bitrate material... especially on a 52" tele.

Doesn't stop you from telling your cousin that putting 10 shows on a single DVD doesn't really work and instead, put them on multiple DVDs, since they are so cheap.

I used the dvd5 output and the project came out too large to fit onto 1 disc. So, I the lowered the output to 4200mb and even 4000mb in the author tab but its still to large. Is this a known bug or do you think I am doing something wrong? All the files themselves only equal 4gb but I've added a motion menu. The bit rate of the files does not change in the scheduled output so no transcoding is required. So, I'm confused.

BDRebuilder could help you to fit to dvd-5, after making authoring with MultiaVCHD ;

Thanks, I will have to try BDRebuilder, I have never used it before. I honestly don't like having to use multiple programs to achieve a desired goal but I know sometimes you have to. This program can do just about everything I want it to, except output to the size it says it's going to. I just don't understand why not  I really like this tool a lot and am grateful for the time dean has spent in creating it. Is he not around anymore and has he discontinued updates on this program?

To avoid to lose time with two successive encodings, you can simply make only the authoring without encoding with MultiAVCHD and then make re-compression (keeping the menus) with BDRebuilder.

Creating clip and playlist info (tsMuxeR)...

It just does nothing for hours and I have to abort. I haven't been too successful with this program so I have kind of given up on it. Multitest gives good results but this program just doesn't like me for some reason. It's a shame for me cause I really like it.

I'm having a Title Menu problem. I have 13 titles, so the 13th title ends up on the 2nd page. When I go to the 2nd page and select that title, it plays title 1 instead of title 13. If I play title 12 and let it finish, it goes to title 13 without a problem. Am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround? The title menu is the only menu I have (no main menu etc). This is for Blu-ray output. I tried looking at it in BDEdit but I couldn't find the title menu (although I dunno what I'm really looking at in that mess). Thanks for any suggestions!

Hello,

I'm trying to build a special motion menu with multiAVCHD and like to now if it's possible at all:

A 10 sec. movie sequence is chosen as first title to play immediately from BD start. It is an animation used for transition to the main menu and its end should connect seamlessly to the menu. The first play works but the player says "Loading..." for some seconds before showing the menu. This sucks a lot.

Is there any chance to get this working seamlessly? For example I could render the transition 10 sec. and the menu together so that I would need a 10 seconds offset into the menu displaying the buttons and loop to that point when the menu ends up. I haven't found to do something like that

Cheers, Konran

No. Not with mAVCHD.

Seamless menu structures are only available with professional authoring software.

:(

And not only this ... I also have to BDEdit the compiled disk because multiAVCHD always generates a play all list that is started as first play. No matter if I activate the "play all" option in the author section or not.

btw. one question on this matter: Any suggestions of professional BD authoring software that is affordable?

I have the need to work with vc-1 codec (to transform older hddvd's into blu-ray media because there is no more active hddvd player) and e-ac3 or dts. I tried a test installation of Sony Vegas Pro 10 - but it can't deal with none of those codec's mentioned above :(

I don't know if Scenarist BD would handle it, but on the other hand this one is not considered as "affordable" within the environment used (for some private authoring stuff only).
