Blu-ray does not come in non standard resolutions like the one you quoted, so there is nothing to discuss. If it is a non-compliant resolution-wise file, then - yes, you have nothing to worry about (although other *slower* profiles may produce different quality). I'm using 'turbo' for 99% of my tests and encodes and the quality is good.

According with new features for chapters thumbnails (Stack chapter thumbs horizontally) in build 728, I ask a question :
With chapters thumbnails creation, a label "Chapter selection (Title 1/1)" is created.
Any way to no show this label line (replace by blank label) ?

deank
18th January 2010, 18:54
It's been always possible not to use the lables if you use a language file (different from English (original)). There are few lines in it for XMB, just edit them:

#
# XMB menu labels
#
XMB;0;Video;Video:
XMB;0;Audio;Audio:
XMB;0;Subs;Subtitles:
XMB;0;Title;Title
XMB;0;ChapS;Chapter selection
XMB;0;Dur;Duration:
XMB;0;Track;track
XMB;0;Trax;tracks
XMB;0;Hour;h
XMB;0;Min;m
XMB;0;Sec;s
#
#

But still there is no way to remove the text unless you don't use chapters. I'm preparing something so, just wait for the next major release.

Thank for the answer, I understand now why with my several tests this label was not removed correctly.
Each time I've edited the language file with remove "chapter selection" in "XMB;0;Chaps;Chapter selection" line the label appear yet and yet :)

I wait the next major release for this and for others features :)
Thank a lot.

Hello Dean,

I am hoping you can help with a little problem.

I am compiling a project with 37 titles and can not see a preview in the properties window from main media screen. Prior to updating, I could see the preview with no problem.

I need this as I want to be able to select which frame to select as the "poster" for the thumbnail for each title.

Would you know what could be causing this?

deank

I didn't change anything with the preview. It depends on your configuration of avisynth, haali and ffdshow. Try to re-install haali with mpeg-ts and mpeg-ps options enabled.

Make sure to use these versions: download links (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/downloads)

Ahhh... Yes. Thank you.

I just realised that it is dependant on AVIsynth to load the correct filters. I moved my plugins and that's what was causing the problem. I moved them back and all is good now.

A piece of good news :)

I managed to get the motion menu working in Nero, TMT and Playstation3, which would probably mean that it will work elsewhere.

As a bonus with the animated menu come a lot of new things like options for:

* sub-menu pages for audio / subtitle selection

* scrolling titles via pages with title-thumbs menu (useful for compilations with more than 15 titles where you need to browse fast to the desired title menu)

* navigation arrows are replaced by semi-transparent box, which covers the button area

* unlimited number of chapter thumbnails (or at least for 48 chapter thumbs in the RC build)

:) Dean

Hi there, just downloaded this program, had a little play.

Basically i want to convert about 30 odd HD-DVDs to Blu-Ray 25gb disc.
They can be movie only discs with randomly placed chapters.

Ive tried loading Anchorman, just as .evo so 2 files named FEATURE1.evo and FEATURE2.evo - the soundtrack is Dolby Digital PLUS

Ive tried outputting to Blu-Ray disc and it splits the first FEATURE1.evo to 3 files, 2 that are 4gb each, and 1 that is about 500mb. BUT with NO AUDIO. It then hangs processing FEATURE2.evo - however, even without audio, is this going to create another playlist, and NOT play the whole film in one go?

Does anyone have a step by step guide for HD-DVD to Blu-Ray using this program??
Also opening the first FEATURE1.evo file that has been created, with TSremux is says frame rate is 29.97 not 24fps?!!

Just tried it again, but with just one file, FEATURE1.evo - got this message in the log. eac3to refused to convert audio!

Many THANKS!! :)

@MB2

Hi!Does anyone have a step by step guide for HD-DVD to Blu-Ray using this program??It's been my experience that although the program will accept .EVOs for input, it will not process them.

The simplest approach I've found is to first drop the two (already decrypted) "Feature" .EVOs into tsMuxeR (use the "Join" button for the second .EVO, NOT the "Add" button") - and then select "BluRay".

If you then need to do any additional processing, load the newly created BluRay "packages" into multiAVCHD...

DD+ is not supported and multiAVCHD does not support HD-DVD to Blu-ray.

****

A request to all who would like to help for motion-menu to become a fact (and a feature) in multiAVCHD:

Here are three archives (12MB each) for those who want to help with testing -

1) AVCHD folder ready to be copied to USB/SDHC for Playstation3 (http://rapidshare.com/files/338489533/PS_MOTION_MENU_AVCHD.rar)

2) BDMV folder ready to be burnt to a Blu-ray disc (http://rapidshare.com/files/338489532/BDP_MOTION_MENU_BDMV.rar)

3) BDMV folder ready to be burnt to a DVD disc (http://rapidshare.com/files/338491289/AVCHDP_MOTION_MENU_BDMV.rar)

Before going any further with developing the menu I need to know that it works in your players. Please test if you can navigate with your remote control to all chapter thumbnails + main title thumb + Setup + Title list + more.

Do not try to start/play anything - just try if the navigation works and shows properly.

Dean

p.s. Menu is now generated as progressive and shown as such (1920x1080 @ 23.976p). Although it looks like the XMB menu from the current version, the animated menu is rewritten to allow for more buttons (like setup for audio/subtitles, title list menu for fast browsing and 'next 12 chapters' button). This is a very early preview and the official build may introduce different layout and buttons/texts.

If I have 2 m2ts files that will fit easily on a BD-R, will multiAVCHD reencode them unneccessarily or will it keep the exact same quality?

Thanks... I asked "Do not try to start/play anything - just try if the navigation works and shows properly." Just to hi-light all possible buttons, not to click ok/start/play/select... only LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN on your remote. If you activate a button you'll be redirected to other menu navigation pages, which are not ready and do nothing (like in your case if you selected title list button you would see 8 place-holders for title thumbs + 4 buttons below them, but no video to reflect the change).

What player did you test with?

I just make a test with AVCHD version on DVD.
- Playback = OK
- Nagivation buttons = OK (Left/Right/Up/Down)
- No problem for display buttons or motion menu (1080p@24fps) and loop playback = OK

Tested on Standalone Player Sony BDP-S350 (firmware 0.20) and Pioneer BDP-320 (firmware 3.34a)
=> Display on Sony LCD TV screen and Pioneer Plasma TV Screen
Tested on Computer with PowerDVD

N.B
Just a little remark, the button "more" is not displayed correctly on Pionner Plasma.Overscan's Pioneer crop the border and this button is out of the size displayed.
I think is necessary to make a "save area" for interactive buttons on for safety menu creation.

Later today (19h00), I will post the test result with BDMV burned on BD-R/RE and tested on same materials.

Thanks drelin. I think it will work in any environment, but it is good to have it tested everywhere possible.

About the 'more' button: probably it won't be visible at all, but when user clicks "RIGHT" while on the last chapter, the menu will show the next page with 12 other chapters, so it won't be a problem. :) And the good thing is that now players won't switch between 1080i and 1080p... I guess I'll make the menu in 23.976 1080p as it seems to be compatible with PAL players, too (incl. PS3).

I tested the BDMV for Blu-Ray folder, all buttons work fine. Did not have a BD-RE available, so I burned to DVD+RW, and playback on TMT3 and PowerDVD 7.3 were good. Also tested on my Sony S360 and it worked fine there too.
I did not try the BDMV folder for DVD media, but I usually select Blu-Ray for all my AVCHD backups, and I have never had a problem with compatibility on my Sony BX1 or S360.
I will test it, and will let you know if there is a problem, which I doubt.

EDIT:
Tested AVCHD, no problems. All looks real good! :)

Are you processing a file or folder/playlist? Is it the 'subtitles' or 'external subtitles' that you can't change? Is the button 'change' enabled/clickable?
You can always name your subtitles to have the language id like: my_video.eng.srt

On Sony TV the motion menu is rendered in 1080p@60hz and
on Pioneer TV (compatible 24hz) is rendered in 1080p@24hz
without problems on both TV.

It is so early but for "one title menu" I think you will create a specific menu creation box on multiavchd.
I've few suggestions according to my previews post about it (few months ago).

Main Menu with 3 buttons : PLAY (movie) SETUP (to audio/subtitles menu access) and CHAPTERS (for 1st chapter Menu page access).
Offset values (x/y) for each button.

SETUP Menu :
2 group buttons = 1 for audio track selection and 1 for subtitles.
Horizontal or vetical alignment and offset values for each group.
1 button to return on Main menu.

CHAPTERS Menu.
Like new option on XMB style menu :
2 option for scroll horizontal alignment or vertical alignment
with offset values for thumbsnails chapters.
1 button on each page to return on Main menu.

For button styles :
the new style for thumbsnails is very good but for classic button (PLAY, SETUP, CHAPTER) is not easy to use with custom background : a "square" like style (for replace arrow) is better or other style if you can or think.

I added two presets with IGS buttons.

One uses small squares (like the green buttons in your menu) for all buttons (setup/title list/chapters) and smaller chapter-thumbs buttons (to be used for horizontally stacked chapters).

I'm trying to add pop-up menu for all titles. It will not be customizable, but will at least provide faster access to [title list] menu, [chapter menu], main menu and skipping to prev/next title. Sadly, it will probably won't work with DVD/USB/SDHC output in Playstation3, but should work in all other players (and with BD-R/RE discs in PS3).

Since I'm rewriting multiAVCHD anyway, there will be a change with naming convention for m2ts/mpls/clpi files. I got a request from Sydon @ hdtv.pl forum to extend the overall m2ts file count supported in multiAVCHD. Untill now the upper limit was 1400 m2ts files.

In the next major version all multiAVCHD menu related files are moved above 80000.**** boundary so it will possible to have 252 titles, each containing the virtual maximum of 317 segments, reaching max# m2ts 79884.m2ts (MTS).

And some very important notes:

* There will be no more updates for multiAVCHD version 3.0.

* Build 728 (3.0.728) is the last one for v3.0 and there will be 729 which will disable the 'update check'.

* Version 3.1 will not include CLASSIC and THUMBNAIL menu styles. They are replaced by "TITLE LIST" menu page.

* It may not be possible to import projects from builds prior to 730 in version 3.1, but it will be possible to load existing compilations generated by any previous build.

I think no more tests are needed with this sample. I'm finishing pop-up menu and will post a sample later. Since the pop-up is in 1080p it is possible that it won't show properly with non 1920x1080 titles (TMT shows the menu properly, but I have no idea how sap players will handle it).

Quick question here if you guys don't mind . . .

Is it possible to remove a section of a movie in multiACVHD? In other words, if there is a scene in a movie that is objectionable, can it be removed? I know that it's possible to trim from the beginning and the end of the movie, but I don't see an option to remove a section in the middle of the movie.

One way I attempted to do this was by loading the original movie, tirmming off everything from the objectional content forward, and processing the movie as Part 1.

Then I loaded the original movie again, trimmed off the beginning all the way up to the end of the objectonal content, and then processed the movie again as Part 2.

After that, I took the two edited movies above (Part 1 and Part 2) and tried to join them in multiACHD. I thought the result would be getting rid of the objectional content.

However, unfortunately the resulting movie is blank for about a minute at the objectional part and then the rest of the movie plays at a fast rate with no audio (it' very strange.)

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks for any help!

multiAVCHD was not designed as an 'editor' program, so it is not possible to easily do what you need.

You could try not to join both parts but leave as separate titles - there should be no gap/blank video.

Thanks Dean. I'll go with that solution. . . . Is there a way not to show one of the movies in the front menu? That would be a nice so that the menu only shows Part 1 with Part 2 not being visible and yet automatically playing immediately after Part 1.

As a side note, I wonder why there would be a problem joining two files like that. I even tried joining them using tsMuxer and TSSPlitter and got the same result.

Hi!

Here's a little heads up regarding my attempts to add a permanent subtitle stream/track to an HD-DVD:

If the BluRay has previously been processed as an "HD-DVD Compliant" BluRay by either multiAVCHD or BD-RB (so that the multiAVCHD log states "Already HD-DVD Compliant" when it's loaded), it appears that the subtitle track/stream is NOT processed, despite the log statement to the contrary.

On the other hand, if the BluRay is initially processed without being "HD-DVD Compliant" and then processed as "HD-DVD Compliant" by multiAVCHD, the permanent subtitle track/stream is properly burned as part of the video.

Hello again Dean,

Sorry to bother you with this pesky question but is this possible...

Hello Dean,

Is there a way to change the colour of the text for the footer message on the menu screen?

Also, a little bug I noticed is when adding titles with 2 channel LPCM. The Carousel Menu shows that some titles are 8 channel PCM or 1 channel PCM. I added multiple titles all with 2 channel PCM. I have no idea why a random pattern of different audio channels were shown in the information text but when played back they play a perfect 2 channel track.

There is a checkbox in 'title properties' [x] Set as hidden title - it will make title invisible in the menu. Make sure you have [x] Play all (sequential playback) option in AUTHOR enabled, too.

Subtitles can be hard-burned only while reencoding and I believe multiAVCHD does it. I'll take a look.

I've created a Popup Menu Graphic style if you are interessed.
See sample and download "png files" at the link :

Yep...

Programming the pop-up is really hard, because I have to do all the navigational stuff with a simple HEX editor byte by byte and it takes hours to program such a simple one with 5-6 buttons.

I guess this will be the one (at least for now). It has 90% opacity and I added a small shadow.

[16:41:05] Preparing authoring information...

[16:41:05] Setting pop-up menu...
[16:41:05] *** [00000.mpls] - Adding pop-up menu...
[16:41:05] *** [00001.mpls] - Adding pop-up menu...
[16:41:05] *** [00002.mpls] - Adding pop-up menu...
[16:41:05] *** [00003.mpls] - Adding pop-up menu...
[16:41:05] Setting menu for 4 titles...
[16:41:05] There is no menu. Playback will end after title #4.
[16:41:05] Playback will start with title #1 (The Matrix 480p-uncropped).
[16:41:05] Setting menu properties...
[16:41:05] Selected TV system: [PAL]
[16:41:05] Processing clip (CPI/CLPI) files...
[16:41:05] Completed.

This allows creation of compilations without menu, but only with a pop-up menu for navigation between titles.

Since it does not require encoding (x264/avisynth) users can get such compilations faster and without the need to install codecs, etc.

Here you can see better how it looks (with the shadow):

:) I'm so glad that it is really going to happen and get all the things I wanted from the beginning (pop-up, motion menu and more chapters + subs/audio subpage). Implementing the re-author mode helped a lot in understanding more of the sub-path mechanism functions and using them in multiAVCHD.

Last night I did a lot of tests and it seems that the largest # of a playlist name can be 01900.mpls (at least Playstation3 locks with higher values). This restricts the number of pages/playlists to be created when using 252 titles. Probably it will mean that the new version will be restricted to 48 chapters per title, which I believe is acceptable. Still, m2ts/clpi files can get as higher as 79999.m2ts/.clpi. multiAVCHD will use the range 80000.m2ts - 93032.m2ts and 00252.mpls - 01900.mpls (reserved). This is because in 'worst' case of 252 titles, additional 252 main menu pages + 32 title-list pages + 252*4 chapter-pages have to be created. I may try to code all in the movieobject.bdmv, instead of using playlists, but I'll let you all know later. There are not so many users that use so many titles :)

p.s. Forgot to mention that multiAVCHD download size is now decreased by 10-15% and all the optimizations will probably cause multiAVCHD to get smaller and faster.

Very good work !

This allows creation of compilations without menu, but only with a pop-up menu for navigation between titles.
Good idea !
But if there is no menu, what happens when we click on chapters menu ? Is it like with Blu-Ray ; a page appears superposed on the video while playing, and it shows thumbnails corresponding to the chapters, and we can go on them and choose one ?

Let's do things in small steps. The changes are too many already and I'd like to add one thing at a time. Blu-ray authoring takes weeks and months with normal/payware software. multiAVCHD can't do it all for you in just few minutes.

And the simple answer to your question is that either the button will do nothing or won't appear at all.

Ok, but in this case, I don't understand what you call title menu, chapters menu ... and everything we see on your pop-up bar if nothing happens when we click on that.

Is this a joke?

When you create a compilation with menu for each title and chapter pages and all... you'll have them appear when you click the pop-up button.

Is this a joke?
I ask myself the same question !

Because you said that earlier ;
This allows creation of compilations without menu, but only with a pop-up menu for navigation between titles.
And now you talk about menus ...

Yes, 'browsing titles' like NEXT title and PREVIOUS title - things you can't do directly by pressing a button on your remote.
