What crashes? :)
I never got to find out what exactly was crashing, because when I started multiAVCHD today, it wanted to update to build 745... and that version seems to work fine on my W7 :)

AAC audio is not supported for this type of (HD to SD DVD) conversion. Your input files must have DTS, AC3, LPCM, MP2, MP3 or HD audio. AAC audio is a great pain to deal with.

Dean, what's the trick to get motion menus to work? I've selected default menu type as "motion" and ticked the box titled "Create motion title thumbnail" - and yet the menus come out with only static thumbnails, without any motion to them. What am I missing here?

You can't get motion with [AVCHD stirct] output mode. Otherwise it should work.

I took the things a bit further...
http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/multiAVCHD_BGA_auto.jpg
If the video you're importing for background has an AC3/DTS/LPCM audio as a first track, multiAVCHD will prompt you if you want to use it for background audio. It will eliminate the step to demux it manually. :)
It means that you can import the original blu-ray menu m2ts and multiAVCHD should be able to use its audio, too.
The options for duration limits are: No limit, 32sec, 60sec, 90sec, 120sec, 180 sec, 240sec and 300sec.
No limit means MAX 300 seconds (5 mins of motion menu).
Since it turned out to be quite a task, I was able to modify ONLY the XMB MENU. SLIDE and CAROUSEL will also use the audio from the imported video, but the duration is still limited to 32 seconds. I knew it will come to this sooner or later, when I picked the number 777 for 32sec menu duration back in January :p
Before I go further and change these two styles, please test the XMB one and let me know if you find any bugs.
I tested it with Ghost Rider and Cruel Intentions original menu m2ts files and I have to say it really is a good addition to multiAVCHD. Thanks to the patient ones, who wanted this for long time now.
Dean
//
Oh, and MPEG-2 encoding is now working both for motion and static menus (main menu only - chapter/setup is still AVC). You can get all this if you update to the latest build.

thank you very much dean! really, thank you.
what do you think, is the playability the reason that commercial bd authoring software just encode mpeg-2 menus, like encore cs4 or dvd-it pro hd or are the reasons caused of expensive licenses?
deank
9th April 2010, 17:55
I believe it is the license fee to obtain proper H.264 encoder. Both MPEG-2 and AVC/H.264 should work anyway. But then why the MPEG-2 menu and H.264/AVC main movie... I really don't get it. I'm starting to wonder if anyone even has a Blu-ray disc with AVC menu now...
I know there is something in the new (ver 4.0 730+ builds) menus which causes some players to refuse multiAVCHD output. I just don't know what it is.
//
Now when you mentioned it... My 2 blu-ray titles use MPEG-2 for menu. In fact I'm not sure how many blu-ray titles use AVC for the main menu. I'll appreciate some feedback from users with a lot of blu-ray titles.

Right. Depends on assignment.
DVD-A has assigned 00000.m2ts for menu stream, 00001.m2ts for main movie,
so I wanted to say that this application (Sony DVD-A) sees (and renders) AVC as useable for menu video.
P.S. And PowerDVD 7.3 is able to play this AVC menu from folder.

Hi,
Nice addition to let it pick audio-track from the video, then you can skip having an extra file.
But I have a question: Will this only work from "main" part of the editor, and not from inside a title's own menu template editing?
I tried adding a background video .m2ts with AC3 audio in template editing, but it don't ask if I want to use first audio track from video. It does ask if I want to use first audio track when I try to add the same background video from "main" part of editor.
Thanks, bye

My all projects with multiavchd 4.0 and menus for AVCHD or BLURAY Discs are been created with H264 codec for menus and played on POWERDVD 7.3 before burn disc and standalone player like as :
Sony BD S350 Pioneer BDP-320 and PS3.
All players works fines with these discs.
I've made a test with mpeg2 codec for menus but I've encounter 2 problems :
- 1st : I see a delay time after play select button and before main movie playback.
I think that the players need to disactivate the mpeg 2 codec and activate the AVC codec to play the main movie (encoded inh264).
It's not a problem linked to multiavchd, I've notified same delay with Encore Cs4 (all menus are encoded in mpeg 2 only).
- 2sd : The quality is too bad for me (macrobloks) for the menus results with mpeg 2
Last thing:
I've encounter a strange result with few projects fo the main motion menu (in H264).
Some time it's perfect and another time the video is very bad with macrobloc
It's strange, because I've not make any modification with the process for import video files compliant for multiavchd menu.
I'll post 2 samples toillustrate this issue : the original mkv file used to import as background video and the m2ts file result afetr compilation by multiavchd

deank;
I have run a couple tests with the new version and motion menu, and have found that the main motion menu and audio are not in sync.
The multiAVCHD motion menu video does not start at the beginning of the clip, but at approx, 4 seconds in from the original on my test. I am using a .ts file for the motion menu.
Also, my motion menu is 30 seconds long, so I tried two seperate tests. The first using the default 32 seconds, and the second using "use as is", but both settings created an out of sync 32 seconds motion menu when playing back the multiAVCHD files in the BDMV folder with MPC as well as the finished project with TMT3.
Should the "use as is" keep the original length of the source motion menu?
Should the default setting of 32 seconds honor the original source length if less than 32 seconds?
My testing was on three .ts clips that were 40:58 seconds long, with the 15 second start for the motion title thumbnails, and that seems to work as before.
My original 30 second motion menu does have audio sync.
EDIT:
Just tried another test with "Do not apply trailer cuts to BG video (use as is) selected, and now the motion menu is in sync and starts at the correct start time. :o
The source 30 seconds is also kept when multiAVCHD completes the project.:o
Sorry Dean, it looks like operator error again! :(

These videos are encoded with high bitrate and may not be suitable for burning to DVD discs and are not 100% AVCHD compliant (because of the DTS audio and the bitrate). Still if you have a PS3 you can enjoy the quality!

For some reason I can't get 64-bit x264.exe to work. 32-bit works fine. I downloaded 64-bit r1532, renamed it x264_64.exe and dropped it into the tools directory. After that I could finally tick the 64-bit box under Settings - but trying to encode anything fails immediately. What else is needed besides the 64-bit x264.exe? 64-bit Avisynth & FFDshow perhaps?
Also, a request: would it be possible to move "shutdown after encode" tickbox out of the output format selection screen, and place it somewhere where it could be accessed while the encode process is running? It would be nice if mAVCHD could then check the status of the tickbox once the process is finished, and act accordingly.

@deank
Hi!
I just came across something that was driving both multiAVCHD and me up a wall (While trying to convert the "Sleeping Beauty - 50th Anniversary" BluRay main movie .M2TS to HD-DVD), until I discovered what it was:
Not since BluRays first came out have I heard of, let alone seen, the main movie .M2TS include TWO complete movie-only videostreams - one, a conventional 1080p and the other a 720p.
If I remember correctly, this was intended to allow older HDTVs play the BluRays even though they were incapable of a 1080p display.
Somehow, this caused every version of multiAVCHD to grind to a halt, claiming that there were no audiostreams to be processed.
It wasn't until I dropped the .M2TS onto tsMuxeR that I realized what it was comprised of. Using tsMuxeR to remove the 720p videostream eliminated the problem.
Unless my powers of observation have deteriorated even further than I realize, there's no indication of any sort (information or error) made by multiAVCHD to make the user aware of this very infrequent occurence. I'm guessing this anomalous construct could likely also affect the behavior of other multiAVCHD functions.
If I'm correct about this, perhaps you can adjust multiAVCHD so that checks for this and, if necessary, generates a notification.

Can you please post the information from mediainfo for this m2ts file? multiAVCHD doesn't support more than one video track anyway, and when using main-movie PLAYLIST (as I always advice) it will warn the user of multiple video streams and will print a line which video will be used in the final output.
I'm still not sure why it would cause failure to detect/process the audio. Once I see the mediainfo log (full) I'll know better. :)

I did a 12-hour encode last night, only to have it come out something less than perfect. At certain points during playback the image breaks up into massive amount of macroblocking for several seconds. Turns out this was caused by multiAVCHD splitting output m2ts files into chunks of 4GB. While testing mAVCHD earlier, I had replaced the default values for media fit and m2ts split with 24050 - simply to make sure files are not split unnecessarily when outputting for BD25 - but before running this 12-hour encode, I typed in the original default values (or what I remembered to be the default values) and entered 4096 as m2ts split size. I'm not entirely sure why I did that, actually :)
OK, so that's another user error, certainly... but I would still question the logic of "Media (m2ts) split at (MB)" setting taking precedence over file sizes allowed under UDF2.50.
In another words, when the user clicks "Start" and selects "Blu-ray for BD-R/RE disc", multiAVCHD should bypass the value set for "Media (m2ts) split at (MB)" and forget all about FAT32 compatibility. Since the output target is a BD-R/RE, you can assume target file system will be UDF2.50 and there's no need to split m2ts files.
deank
11th April 2010, 12:21
This can by no means be caused by file splitting. It doesn't affect neither encoding, nor playback nor anything.
I'd suggest to use the versions of x264 included in multiAVCHD and not replace with other builds. I'll also suggest that you use the 32bit version if you have problems with the 64bit.

2- Bad h264 motion menu result m2ts file (with macroblocks particular at start video)
I changed some of the encoding settings in multiAVCHD. Motion menu now looks very well.
There is a new option in MENU/Extended:
[x] Use high quality setting for motion menu
which is ON by default. It will produce quite better output than before (with the option unticked), but of course will take a bit more time and will be a bit bigger in size.
MPEG-2 encoding is also improved, although it can't reach the quality of x264 with the new option enabled.
You can update to get the new option. Please post back your observations.

This can by no means be caused by file splitting. It doesn't affect neither encoding, nor playback nor anything.
Hmm. I'm fairly certain the first instance of macroblocking takes place at the end of the first 4GB chunk... but I'll double-check.
I'd suggest to use the versions of x264 included in multiAVCHD and not replace with other builds. I'll also suggest that you use the 32bit version if you have problems with the 64bit.
Yeah, for some reason I can't run the 64bit version at all; the process is over in a second, like multiAVCHD couldn't run x264_64.exe at all. I dunno, it's weird.
So are you saying the latest official revision (1523) is somehow incompatible with the settings multiAVCHD uses for encoding? I figured since it works fine with BD-Rebuilder, it's safe to use with multiAVCHD as well. Well, live and learn, I guess :)

OK! The video has been posted!
Get it hot off the grill here! http://adubvideo.net/videos/bluray-dvd-multiavchd
That was a nice one :) I really enjoyed watching it... And - yeah - pronouncing 'multiAVCHD' is quite a pain, too :)

I don't know what version that is, but if you compare the filesizes you'll notice that both x264 included in multiAVCHD are ~800kb (and not 6-7MB).

There was originally only one x264 included with the multiAVCHD; I had to add the 64bit version (from x264.nl) manually in the tools directory. But yeah, you're correct, the new versions are significantly larger than the one that came with multiAVCHD. Why is that, by the way?

In the full download of multiAVCHD you'll find:
x264.exe (32bit)
x264_64.exe (64bit)
mx264.exe (32bit for static menu encoding)
hx264.exe (32bit) (I won't say what this one is for :p)
First two are r1523 and are this big (~800kb) because they are not compiled with ffmpeg/ffms2, which are not used by multiAVCHD anyway. Also, both builds are compiled with different nal-hrd support.
There is a reason for everything I put in the tools folder.

Looks like I'll have to re-download multiAVCHD; I guess the version I originally downloaded is an old one as it doesn't have all the tools. Thanks Dean!

deank,
Another excellent addition! I will be trying this out as soon as possible. :)
Caps :) I couldn't resist but to reencode my PlanetEarth motion menus with the new High quality setting. It looks astonishing and just like you I rarely play the episodes, but staring at the menus :)
+ probably in the next (DAT) update the default menu sound will be replaced with 6ch AC3 - sounds much better than the 2ch which is now included.

I am considering this too, only substituting the original one, which is 1:37 seconds and is 124MB, with my 32 second created slide show motion menu/audio. And I left myself room just in case. :p
Currently I am recording the 11 episodes of Life, 1080i from Discovery, since I can't wait until June when the Blu-Ray is released.:)
I already made a custom motion menu, now just the last 5 episodes to do!
This one will go on BD-RE though, since I despise the logos and cutting the commercials leaves some to be desired. Besides, if they release it with 1080P, it will be better quality and another opportunity to create an awesome 1 disc backup! ;)

Latest 746 requires DAT update.
You can download it here (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/datupdate/) if you don't want to download the complete package.
